Leucocytozoonosis was diagnosed in layer birds of 38 week age. Clinically, birds showed pale comb, soft shelled eggs, drop in egg production from 84% to 42% with 7.75% mortality. Multiple cysts (1 to 2 mm in diameter) were observed on the epicardium, gizzard mucosa, serosal surfaces of oviduct and intestine, peritoneum and other visceral organs. Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and enlarged kidneys with petechiae and small reddish brown spot on pancreas and oviduct were observed. Microscopically, heart, liver, gizzard, oviduct, interstitium of ovary, lung and kidneys revealed smooth spherical cysts with an average size of 371.73 by 327.84 μm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coccidiosis was diagnosed based on presence of oocyst in the faeces in ailing kids and lesions in intestine on necropsy in dead kids. Clinically, seven out of fifteen kids showed watery faeces, in-appetence, tenesmus, anaemia and weakness. The examination of the faeces from the sheds where kids were kept showed presence of coccidial oocyst. Omphalitis (Naval ill) was diagnosed in two male buffalo calves aged 15 days and one month, respectively. Necropsy examination revealed tennis ball size saccular dilation at umbilicus m one calf and slightly larger sac in another calf. Detail necropsy examination revealed whitish-creamy coloured pus in the umbilicus in both the cases. One month calf also showed small multiple grey whitish areas on the liver, endocardium, myocardium and pneumonia. Fifteen day old calf showed septicaemic changes with pneumonia in addition to omphalitisphlebitis. It is comprehensive report on foreign body syndrome (both penetrating and non-penetrating) in four Murrah she buffaloes of age ranged from 7 -12 years investigated over a period of two year (2013-14). Out of four Murrah she buffaloes necropsied, two showed non penetrating foreign bodies and two as a penetrating foreign bodies. A five month old female Osmanabadi kid was presented for necropsy examination which showed the clinical signs of watery diarrhoea, unthriftiness, weakness, anaemia and alopecia before death. Necropsy examination revealed heavy load of tapeworm in intestine. The findings under this publication reports on the occurrence of three solitary, firm and painless nodular growths in four year old male boxer dog. The average size of each nodule was 6.35 cm in diameter. Upon incision, one nodule showed an adult worm which was identified as D. repens. Although, blood smear examination revealed microfilariae; CBC parameters were within the normal physiological range. Histopathological examination of nodules revealed marked fibrosis of the subcutaneous tissue with sparse infiltration of eosinophils and lymphocytes. Prepucial hemangiosarcoma was diagnosed in Non-descript dog on the basis of histopathology, FNAC and IHC. There was presence of firm lobulated, mass on the mucosal side of prepucial skin. Microscopically, there was haphaza rd proliferation of endothelial cells with nuclear pleomorphism, forming variable sized clefts. The article describes a case of traumatic reticular diaphragmatic hernia in a necropsy examination of a 9-year old female buffalo. It was reported that the buffalo showed ruminal atony, recurrent bloat, normal to sub normal temperature, arching of back and anorexia before death. Detailed autopsy showed nails as the cause of trauma to the diaphragm leading to rupture and herniation of the reticulum to the thoracic cavity resulting to respiratory disturbance and death.

The article discusses a study which examined the antimicrobial drug resistance of Escherichia coli isolated from a poultry population in India. E. coli isolates from dead chickens showing classical lesions of colibacillosis were subjected to serotyping and antibiogram study. The isolates showed resistant to most of the commonly used antimicrobials including Tetracycline, Ampicillin and Amoxycillin.

The article discusses a study which characterized pathogenic attributes of Escherichia Coli strains isolated from natural outbreaks of colibacillosis from layer and broiler birds through Congo red (CR) binding assay. The effectiveness of the Congo red colony pigmentation as an indicator of virulence was examined. A strong correlation between development of intense red colour on CR dye agar and mortality pattern in chicken was observed.

Twenty five stray rats (Rattus norvegicus) collected from different locations of Mumbai were presented to Dept. of Vety. Pathology for post-mortem and subsequent collection of samples for diagnosis of leptospirosis. All the rats were sacrificed and gross observations were noted. Whitish cysts of varying sizes containing a Cysticercus fasciolaris, metacestodal stage of Taenia taeniformis were noted on the liver of 9 out of 25 rats (36%) for which cat is definitive host whereas; the rat and mice are intermediate hosts. The article highlights a study which examined the pathology of the thyroid glands of slaughtered buffaloes in Maharashtra, India. The three colors observed in the thyroid glands are faint brown, dark brown and pale color. Both normal and abnormal thyroid glands have either oval, elongated or triangular shapes.

The article discusses the case of commercial layer birds with the bacterial disease spirochetosis. Alive and dead birds were analyzed and were found to have anemia. Wet smear and Silver Fontana staining confirmed spirochetosis. Low mortality in the animals could be due to a low virulent strain of spirochetosis.

The article discusses a study which examined the therapeutic use of blood transfusion in canines. Several hematological parameters increased following blood transfusion including hemoglobin, total leucocytes count (TLC), packed cell volume (PCV), total erythrocyte count (TEC) and platelet count. No adverse reaction was observed following transfusion.

This paper describes a rare observation of the parasitology and pathology of three cases of porcine opisthorchiosis encountered in an abattoir survey conducted at Mumbai. The load of parasites that were recovered was as high as 165 flukes from a mass of five grams of hepatic parenchyma. On the basis of morphometric analysis the flukes were identified as Opisthorchis tenuicollis. Predominant gross and histological lesions included extensive biliary cirrhosis as evident by fibrotic tracks on the surface as well as deeper in the substance of liver and dilatation of bile ducts with progressive cholangiohepatitis. Fibrotic liver or milk spotted liver encountered during necropsy of pigs should not be arbitrarily considered as a case of ascariosis as the gross lesions caused by Opisthorchis tenuicollis during massive infections may resemble the same picture. The authors present a case report on abdominal actinomycosis in 7 year old German shepherd dog, which was presented with the complaint of chronic fever, anorexia, weight loss, hematemesis and a recent history of mixed hemoprotozoan infections. Due to the non-specific clinical presentation, the diagnosis was delayed. X-ray and ultrasonographic examination revealed ascites; severe hepatomegaly with surface nodularity indicating possibility of hepatic neoplasia. However, findings on necropsy and detailed histopathological investigations confirmed the diagnosis as actinomycosis.
