A Model 4130-AMS by High Voltage Engineering Europe B.V., dedicated to 14C measurements was delivered to Nagoya University in 1996/97. Acceptance tests of its performance were completed in 1999, and a routine operation started in mid-2000. The number of targets measured was 330, 1430, 2077, 1003, 1,979, 1679, 1772, 1115, 1339, 866, 1300, 1701, 1449, 1634, 1351, 1741, 1156, 466, 900, 1345, 653 and 1123 in each year from 1999 to 2020, respectively, and total number of targets measured by the end of 2020 is 28,408. The problems in 2020 are; (1) instability of C- beam intensity was a big problem for high statistical 14C measurements. Intensities of C- beam gradually decreased to 1/5 from the begging of 14C measurements in about 15 hours. We could not increase the beam intensity any more, even increasing Cs sputtering ions by heating up the Cs reservoir temperature. We tried to shut the ion source down and power on again, but not successful. However, the ion source was opened and cleaned to successfully recover the ion beam intensity. We applied this method for routine 14C measurements, although it wasted a lot of time; (2) the power supply for the recombinator magnet was out of order. The control of DC current for the magnet did not work well. We replaced a power transistor on the circuit board to repair it; (3) a plunger unit to grasp the target for loading and unloading it to the sputtering position was out of order. The four fingers of the plunger were partly broken and could not grasp targets firmly to move them from carrousel to the sputtering position and back. We replaced it to a new one; (4) because of instability of DC voltage of about 90 [V] supplied for a Y- steerer in the ion source, with the fluctuation of about ±5 [V], C- beam suffered instability in the direction of the beam. A part of the C- beam even hits the wall of the beam line. The power supply for the Y-steerer was repaired; (5) a step of initialization to start up the target handling in the ion source could not work well. A target movement control by computer was out of order. We replaced a X-motion motor that could be broken, and changed 6 units of light-guide cable for communication of signals to control the end parts of the ion source unit. In particular, the replacement of lightguide cables was effective for the successful handling of the targets., 名古屋大学宇宙地球環境研究所では、1997年3月に完納されたHigh Voltage Engineering (HVE)社製Tandetron (Model 4130-AMS)が放射性炭素（14C）測定専用装置として運用されている。最大の特徴は、イオン入射部にリコンビネーターを備えて、炭素の3種の同位体が同時に測定でき、導入された当時は14C測定において高性能を誇っていた。しかし、今になるとる14Cしか測定できない事が利用拡張の妨げになっている面もある。2019年にはわずか653個しか測定できなかった。大きな故障はなかったものの、細かい不具合が重なり、試料の測定が進まなかったことによる。2020年は1123個のターゲットを測定した。しかしこの間も、測定精度に関わる、イオン源の炭素ビーム出力に大きな問題が発生した。炭素ビーム出力の経時変動が顕著になり、測定の始めは、充分な炭素ビーム出力があるものの、数時間を経ると、炭素ビーム出力が低下する。対策として、セシウム溜の温度を上昇させても、あまり効果がなく、炭素ビーム出力は回復しない。この事象が発生して以来、イオン源のターゲット電圧電源、引出電圧電源、シリコン冷却系のパイプの詰まりの有無、セシウムイオナイザー電源、セシウム温度制御装置など、各種の付属装置などの交換を試みてきた。2011年3月上旬にイオン源のX-motorの取替を行い、さらに、光ケーブルの交換を行ったことから、これまでに問題があった症状が出なくなっている。現在のところ、問題は、まだ解決していないが、今後、注意深くテスト・ランを進める必要がある。この間に、最近になって炭素ビームの変動が大きくなり、12C, 13C, 14Cの測定の安定性が問題であった。この問題については、炭素ビームの最上流部にあるイオン源のY軸方向のビーム偏向を制御するY-steerer電源の出力が周期的な変動をしている事が原因となっていることが判明した。過去のデータを調べると、10年前にも小さな変動があり、近年その変動が次第に大きくなってきた。しかし、このAMS 装置では、リコンビネーターを用いて同時測定を行っているため、この電源に起因するビーム強度変動は12C, 13C, 14Cで均等に影響するため、この変動の効果がキャンセルして、14C/12C比の測定には影響をほとんど及ぼさなかった。このY-steerer電源の修理を行うまでに沢山の試料を測定したが、得られた14C年代は、非常に調和的な値であったことから、利用者は安心して頂きたい。初めに、リコンビネーターの悪口を書いたが、有用であった面も挙げられる。

Bone mineral components (bioapatite) are susceptible to soil contamination during burial, but bones heated at high temperatures (>600°C) could retain their original information due to increased crystallinity. Many cremated bones heated with high temperature were excavated from the Ishibotokedani Hakaato site in Binman-ji Temple in Taga, Shiga Prefecture. It is thought that the buried people are monks and ordinary people of Binman-ji Temple in the 12th and 15th centuries. The purpose of this study is to reveal the living area of the buried people by Sr isotopic analysis of the cremated bones from the Ishibotokedani Hakaato site, and to get information about the cultural history of the Middle Ages in Japan. Stream sediments and water from rivers (Uso, Inukami, and Seri Rivers) flowing in the surrounding area, soil from Ishibotokedani site were collected and measured of 87Sr/86Sr. The exchangeable (ex) fraction, which is obtained by extraction with 1M CH3COONH4, of the stream sediment showed a very close values (0.70926 to 0.71176) to those of stream water and cremated bone. The ex fraction of stream sediment and stream water of Uso River and Inukami River, where Koto Rhyolite is distributed, have 87Sr/86Sr values of 0.71135 to 0.71176, and stream water of Seri River, where limestone and basic volcanic rocks are distributed, has a low value of 0.71093. Furthermore, the cremated bones from the Ishibotokedani site showed 87Sr/86Sr of 0.70990 to 0.71037, agreement with 87Sr/86Sr values of the ex fraction of the Ishibotokedani soil and stream water of Seri River. These results suggest that the cremated bones from the Ishibotokedani site might belong to the people who lived around Binman-ji Temple or near Seri River., 骨の無機成分（バイオアパタイト）は埋没中に土壌からの汚染を受けやすく、分析に使えないと考えられてきたが、近年の研究から、高温（>600°C）で加熱された骨はアパタイトの結晶度が高まることにより、汚染を受けにくくなり、元の情報を保持し得ることがわかってきた。滋賀県多賀町の敏満寺遺跡石仏谷墓跡からは高温で焼かれた火葬骨が多数出土し、出土土器の型式や古文書の記述から、12-15世紀の敏満寺の僧侶や周辺住民であると考えられている。石仏谷墓跡は、近畿地方における中世の文化史の情報が骨から直接得られるという点で、非常に重要な遺跡である。本研究では、この火葬骨の87Sr/86Sr同位体分析から、埋葬されている人の生前の居住地についての情報を引き出すことを目的とする。石仏谷墓跡周辺の地質の87Sr/86Sr分布を明らかにするため、周辺地域を流れる河川（宇曽川、犬上川、芹川）から地質試料を採取した。これらの試料は、フッ酸や硝酸によって分解後、陽イオン樹脂を用いてSr分画を単離し、TIMSを用いて87Sr/86Sr同位体比を測定した。石仏谷墓跡から出土した火葬骨に対しては、酢酸で二次生成炭酸塩を除去した後、硝酸で分解し、上と同様に87Sr/86Sr測定を測定した。今回得られた地質のSr同位体比結果とMukumoto(2017)の火葬骨及び土壌のSr同位体比の結果を合わせ、河川堆積物、河川水、火葬骨の87Sr/86Srの関係、石仏谷墓跡に埋葬された人々の居住地域について考察した。測定の結果、河川堆積物の交換態（1M酢酸アンモニウム抽出）成分、河川水、火葬骨はごく近い値（0.70926-0.71176）を示した。湖東流紋岩が流域に分布している宇曽川、犬上川の河川堆積物の交換態成分と河川水は0.71135-0.71176の87Sr/86Srを、主に石灰岩と玄武岩が流域に分布する芹川の河川水は0.71093の低い値を示した。さらに、石仏谷墓跡から出土した火葬骨は、土壌の交換態成分、ならびに芹川の河川水に近い87Sr/86Srを示した。以上の結果から、石仏谷墓跡に埋葬されている人は、敏満寺周辺もしくは芹川の河川水を利用可能な地域で生活していた人々であると考えられる。, 本研究は、科学研究費補助金基盤研究(B)265601444「火葬骨の高確度炭素14年代測定と食性解析のための基礎研究・考古資料への展開」（代表者：南雅代）により行われました。

The Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, Nagoya University, held a regional contribution program of “Letʼs study earthquake and active fault around Nagoya city” for the higher grade elementary school students on July 31–August 1, 2019. The twenty-five students took part in the program. The first day they went to Ogaki and Motosu, Gifu by bus and visited the Kinsho-zan Kaseki-kan (Museum) to observe the Permian fossils, Neo River to collect Shikamaia fossils, and the Seismic Faults Observation & Experience House to observe Neodani Fault, which ruptured causing the Nobi earthquake in 1891. We successfully made a meaningful field program. The second day began with a lecture on mechanism of earthquake occurrence and fault slipping by Prof. Sagiya. After the lecture, the students studied about natural disasters and their mitigation at the Disaster Mitigation Research Building (Gensai-kan), and took part in a hands-on experiment of making fault by the use of flour and cocoa powder. In the afternoon, they discussed about what was learned during this experiential learning program and summarized it in posters. Finally, they made poster presentation by groups. The program ended a success. The post-program questionnaire shows that the participants enjoyed the program a lot and learned many new things., 名古屋大学宇宙地球環境研究所は、2019年7月31日（水）と8月1日（木）の2日間にわたり、小学校4年生から6年生25名を対象とした夏休み体験学習を実施した。初日は、大型バスをチャーターして、子ども達25名とスタッフ11名、総勢36名で、岐阜県大垣市、本巣市に出向いた。金生山化石館では、高木洋一元館長から化石についての説明を受けた後、古生代の化石であるフズリナやシカマイア（巨大二枚貝）の観察を行った。根尾川河原では、根尾公民館の三本木隆館長のご指導のもと、シカマイア化石の採集を行った。また、根尾谷地震断層観察館・体験館では、1891年の濃尾地震によって形成された根尾谷断層の観察を行い、濃尾地震の揺れを実体験した。2日目は、名古屋大学減災館で、減災連携研究センターの鷺谷威教授から地震発生や断層形成のメカニズム、地震防災について学んだ。その後、研究所共同館Ⅱに移動し、小麦粉とココアを用いた断層形成実験を行った。最後に、体験学習で学んだことを班ごとに話し合ってポスターにまとめ、発表会を行なった。

A Model 4130-AMS by High Voltage Engineering Europe B.V., dedicated to 14C measurements was delivered to Nagoya University in 1996/97. Acceptance tests of its performance were completed in 1999, and a routine operation started in mid-2000. The number of targets measured was 330, 1430, 2077, 1003, 1,979, 1679, 1772, 1115, 1339, 866, 1300, 1701, 1449, 1634, 1351, 1741, 1156, 466, 900, 1345 and 653 in each year from 1999 to 2019, respectively, 706 from January to May in 2020, and total number of targets measured by the end of May in 2020 is 27,991. The problems of the AMS system in 2019/20 are; (1) Control in the rotation of the wheel loaded with the targets to be measured was out of order. A harmonic drive motor to rotate the wheel looked wrong and it was replaced with a new one; (2) A differential pumping unit (a dry pump, MUP-015-2) in the ion source looked wrong, because attaining the high vacuum in the ion source after target exchange took more time than normal condition. We replaced the dry pump with the new one. It took a shorter time but the attainable high vacuum level in the ion source was no big difference than before; (3) A telemeter card that controls the rotation of the wheel loaded with the targets to be measured was out of order. A capacitor to stabilize a DC+5V supply from the power circuit on the telemeter card was broken and replaced; (4) A light guide pass in the ion source to monitor the control of target movement was completely filled up with aluminum dust fragments. Owing to this disturbance, correct exchange of the targets was not possible. We have removed the dusts and cleaned the ion source, and normal operation was recovered; (5) Adjustment of parget position in X-Y direction was needed for a target to be spattered properly by Cs+ ions to produce C- ions efficiently in the ion source. 9 panto-positions are set on the surface of the graphite target, to keep C- ion productivity high enough for five-day measurements., 名古屋大学のタンデム加速器質量分析装置は、1996/97年に設置されたHigh Voltage Engineering Europe (HVEE)社製Tandetron (Model 4130-AMS)で、イオン入射部にrecombinator systemを有し、放射性炭素測定専用のシステムである。1999年1月に14C/12C、13C/12C比測定の性能検収を終了し、2000年度から学内共同利用を開始したもので、使用開始後20年を経過し、老朽化が目立つ。2019年1月から2020年5月までの間に発生したタンデトロン分析計の主要な不具合は、(1)14C測定の際にターゲット交換を行うために重要なパーツであるtargetwheelが空回りするようになった。target wheelと回転軸の固定を強化する検討を行ったが、完璧な方法に到達せず、結局はネジの固定を強化するに止まった。しかし、その後、空回りは見られなくなった；(2)target wheelの空回りはなくなったが、target wheelを高精度で回転させるharmonic drive linear-actuator motorの回転角制御の安定不良が疑われたため、新品と交換した。その後、target wheelの回転基準位置の制御を行うtelemeter cardの不具合が見つかり、これを交換した；(3)イオン源のダストが光センサーシステムの光を遮り、ターゲットの位置決めが出来なくなった。イオン源のtarget wheel収納容器内の光が通るパスを掃除した。ターゲットからはがれ落ちたアルミニウムのダストでパスが塞がれていた；(4)イオン源のセシウム温度制御が故障し、ヒーター温度が暴走して、セシウム溜の温度が極端に上昇した。ヒーター温度を制御するテレメータカードを点検し、予備品と交換したら、きちんと温度制御ができるようになった；(5)イオン源の定期清掃に合わせて、イオン源の炭素負イオンビーム出力を制御するためのターゲット電圧電源、引出電圧電源を交換した。この交換により、グラファイトターゲットの表面をスパッターするセシウム負イオンの収束制御がよくなった。このおかげで、グラファイトターゲット表面のスパッター位置を容易に決めることができるようになった。この、位置決めを正しく行うと、直径2mmのターゲット表面に9点のスパッター位置を設定することが出来る。この位置のことをpanto-positionと呼んでいるが、その位置決めを、行いながら、試料の測定を進めた；(6)炭素イオン出力の経時変動が顕著になり、測定の始めは、充分な出力があるものの、数時間を経ると、炭素イオン出力が低下する。セシウム溜の温度を上昇させても、あまり効果がなく、炭素イオン出力は回復しない。目下、検討中であるが、アイオナイザーの不良によるものではないかと考え、アイオナイザーの交換を計画しているところである。名古屋大学のAMS systemは、このような故障にもかかわらず、14C測定の精度は従来と同程度に維持されており、文化財資料、考古学資料の高精度年代測定に、また、さまざまな環境試料の14C測定に利用されている。
