Background: Gaps and unbalances have persisted in prenatal care as a programmatic action of primary health care, with women's health needs not being met. Implementing evidence-based practices, focusing on women-centered care, reflects positive experiences and impacts the perception of quality in prenatal care. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the perceptions of pregnant women at usual risk on prenatal care. Method: This qualitative research is supported by the theories of symbolic interactionism and thematic analysis. Results: A single meeting semi-structured interviews was conducted with 30 pregnant women assisted at Basic Health Units, between 2018/19. Three thematic categories show the our findings in detail: "Prenatal care: protocol and inexpressive nursing participation", "(Dis)satisfaction while interacting with the medical professional", and "Obstacles for informational support". The women's perception on prenatal care refers to a compliance with routines and protocol, in a space of relational insufficiencies between professionals and pregnant women, almost not addressing singularities, in addition to reporting situations that correspond to obstetric violence. Conclusion: It is urgent to reflect on turning health services into a space for the exercise of rights as people and citizens, in an environment of dialogue, qualified listening, and the integral valuing of pregnant women.
