Areca nut husk (ANH) holds promise as a viable biomass source for xylose production. Xylose is a precursor for various biochemicals. However, the recalcitrant nature of ANH makes saccharification more complex. To address this, lime and acid pretreatments were carried out to enhance the susceptibility of biomass to saccharification. Before this, a compositional analysis was conducted to determine the initial constituents of the feedstock. Saccharification was conducted under the following conditions: 2% (wV−1) substrate loading, 100 rpm agitation, and 30 °C hydrolysis temperature for 12 h hydrolysis time at pH 4.5 to 5.0. However, parameters like xylanase enzyme loading were varied to enhance the saccharification of the ANH. The results demonstrated that acid‐treated husk (ATH), lime‐treated husk (LTH), and raw husk (RH) achieved the highest yield (gg−1) of reducing sugar, approximately 90, 83, and 15%, respectively, at an enzyme loading of 15.0 IUg−1. Various analytical techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), zeta potential, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) were used to examine structural changes in the native, pretreated, and saccharified residues of ANH. The analysis revealed that a significant amount of partial crystalline and amorphous cellulose in the ANH biomass was hydrolyzed during the saccharification process. However, saccharification also led to the removal of amorphous substances, disruption of the crystalline structure, and conversion of crystalline regions into amorphous domains. Culinary is being narrowed due to a rapid shift to ready-to-eat food consumption. Current study was performed to record the status of culinary in Indian peninsula, besides making them aware of the harmful cookware's leaching. An online survey was conducted and responses were analyzed. Survey reported that 45.3% of youth is unaware of millets and 61.9% of survey population doesn't know about per and polyfluoroalkyl substance leaching, while the cooking methods became narrow around baking, frying, and pressure cooking. Instead, this survey has drafted a significant impact on the population, and 39.1–50.9% of survey population declined using aluminum and nonstick cookware after interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Areca nut husk is the most promising alternative source of low-cost raw materials because it contains a considerable amount of five-carbon monosaccharide sugar in the form of xylose. This polymeric sugar can be isolated and transformed into a value-added chemical using fermentation. To extract sugars from areca nut husk fibers, preliminary pretreatment, such as dilute acid hydrolysis (H2SO4), was performed. The hemicellulosic hydrolysate of areca nut husk can produce xylitol through fermentation, but toxic components inhibit the growth of microorganisms. To overcome this, a series of detoxification treatments, including pH adjustment, activated charcoal, and ion exchange resin, were carried out to reduce the concentration of inhibitors in the hydrolysate. This study reports a remarkable 99% removal of inhibitors in the hemicellulosic hydrolysate. Subsequently, a fermentation process using Candida tropicalis (MTCC6192) was executed with the detoxified hemicellulosic hydrolysate of areca nut husk, yielding an optimum xylitol yield of 0.66 g/g. This study concludes that detoxification techniques like pH adjustment, activated charcoal, and ion exchange resins are the most economical and effective methods for eliminating toxic compounds in hemicellulosic hydrolysates. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the packed bed reactor (PBR) was carried out using ANSYS Fluent software. The various process parameters, such as inlet concentration of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP), flow rate, bed height, and porosity, were optimized to predict maximum biodegradation of 4-CP in immobilized catalyzed PBR. The geometrical mesh of the PBR was constructed using Gambit software, and a mesh size of 236995 was selected from the grid-independent study. A laminar flow model was used to understand the hydrodynamics as well as concentration profile of 4-CP inside the PBR using Fluent software. Through CFD, the effect of the flow rate, inlet concentration, and the bed height and porosity of the immobilized catalyst bed on the static pressure, mass imbalance, velocity, and stress-strain field inside the PBR was visualized. CFD simulation study predicted that maximum biodegradation of 4-CP was found in the presence of 500 mg/L of inlet concentration of 4-CP, 4 mL/min of flow rate, 18 cm of bed height and 0.375 of porosity. An experimental study was conducted for wastewater flow through the B. subtilis MF447840.1 immobilized catalyzed PBR to remove the 4-CP in the laminar flow region.
