Computer Science - Cryptography and Security - Abstract
Conventional private data publication mechanisms aim to retain as much data utility as possible while ensuring sufficient privacy protection on sensitive data. Such data publication schemes implicitly assume that all data analysts and users have the same data access privilege levels. However, it is not applicable for the scenario that data users often have different levels of access to the same data, or different requirements of data utility. The multi-level privacy requirements for different authorization levels pose new challenges for private data publication. Traditional PPDP mechanisms only publish one perturbed and private data copy satisfying some privacy guarantee to provide relatively accurate analysis results. To find a good tradeoff between privacy preservation level and data utility itself is a hard problem, let alone achieving multi-level data utility on this basis. In this paper, we address this challenge in proposing a novel framework of data publication with compressive sensing supporting multi-level utility-privacy tradeoffs, which provides differential privacy. Specifically, we resort to compressive sensing (CS) method to project a $n$-dimensional vector representation of users' data to a lower $m$-dimensional space, and then add deliberately designed noise to satisfy differential privacy. Then, we selectively obfuscate the measurement vector under compressive sensing by adding linearly encoded noise, and provide different data reconstruction algorithms for users with different authorization levels. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that ML-DPCS yields multi-level of data utility for specific users at different authorization levels.

Computer Science - Cryptography and Security - Abstract
Differential privacy (DP) has become the de facto standard of privacy preservation due to its strong protection and sound mathematical foundation, which is widely adopted in different applications such as big data analysis, graph data process, machine learning, deep learning, and federated learning. Although DP has become an active and influential area, it is not the best remedy for all privacy problems in different scenarios. Moreover, there are also some misunderstanding, misuse, and great challenges of DP in specific applications. In this paper, we point out a series of limits and open challenges of corresponding research areas. Besides, we offer potentially new insights and avenues on combining differential privacy with other effective dimension reduction techniques and secure multiparty computing to clearly define various privacy models., Comment: 12 pages

A seismic fragility curve is a visual representation that illustrates the likelihood of a structure surpassing a particular damage or performance limit state caused by an earthquake with a specific intensity or ground motion level. This curve is typically generated using probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and structural reliability analysis methods. It is based on statistical models that rely on past earthquake data and simulations of future earthquake scenarios to predict the structure or system’s behavior under seismic forces. In this study, the seismic performance of 30 stories of 95 m height dual system reinforced concrete buildings located in Erbil is evaluated by analyzing three distinct ground motions. A non-linear platform is used to simulate and analyze data, followed by the generation of seismic inter-story drift fragility curves using Incremental Dynamic Analysis. The buildings’ seismic structural performance is assessed based on five different performance levels, including operational phase, immediate occupancy, damage control, life safety, and collapse prevention (CP). Each level is associated with different levels of damage and corresponding degrees of functionality and safety. The fragility curves show that the building has a 50% chance of achieving or exceeding the (CP) level with highly intense ground vibrations with peak ground acceleration = 1.6 g. In addition, these curves can be beneficial in creating future local design codes and provide significant support in evaluating the seismic performance of existing buildings.

The aim of this study was to investigate if wedelolactone could perform better in resistant ovarian cancer cells when used in combination with cisplatin. Methods: Growth inhibitory potential of wedelolactone and cisplatin was investigated through MTT reduction assay in ovarian cancer cell lines including A2780 (sensitive), A2780cisR (cisplatin resistant) and A2780ZD0473R. Resistance factor (RF) of drugs was determined in these three cell lines. Combination index (CI) was calculated as a measure of combined drug action. Effect of this combination on changes in the cellular accumulation of platinum levels and platinum-DNA binding was also determined in vitro using AutoDock Vina while the effect of wedelolactone on inhibition of possible key culprits of resistance including Chk1, CD73, AT tip60, Nrf2, Brd1, PCAF, IGF1, mTOR1 and HIF2α was investigated in silico. Results: Cisplatin and wedelolactone showed a dose-dependent growth inhibitory effect. RF value of wedelolactone was 1.1 in the case of A2780cisR showing its potential to bring more cell death in cisplatin-resistant cells. CI values were found to vary showing antagonistic to additive outcomes. Additive effect was observed for all sequences of administration (0/0, 0/4 and 4/0 h) in A2780cisR. Enhanced cellular accumulation of cisplatin was observed in parent and resistant cells on combination. Docking results revealed that among the selected oncotargets, Chk1, CD73, Nrf2, PCAF and AT tip60 were more vulnerable to wedelolactone than their respective standard inhibitors. Conclusion: These findings have shown that additive outcome of drug combination in A2780cisR and raised levels of platinum accumulation followed a clear pattern. This observation indicates that the presence of wedelolactone might have contributed to sensitize A2780cisR. However, in silico results point to the possible effects of this compound on epigenetic factors involving tumor microenvironment, epithelial mesenchymal transition, and immune-checkpoint kinases. Keywords: coumestan, chemotherapy resistance, growth inhibition, A2780

Furthermore, pharmacokinetic, biodistribution, and liver toxicity analyses were performed in Sprague–Dawley rats, and antitumor efficacy was evaluated in Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF-7) and squamous cell carcinoma-7 (SCC-7) cells in vitro and in tumour-bearing BALB/c mice in vivo. Advanced analyses including survival rate, immunohistopathology, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) assays were performed to evaluate apoptosis in vivo. Results: The average particle size of the HePC-NLCs was 143 ± 16 nm, with a narrow PDI (0.104 ± 0.002), and the incorporation efficiency was found to be 91 ± 7%. The NLCs released HePC in a sustained manner, and this release was significantly lower than that of free drug. The in vitro hemolytic assay demonstrated a significantly reduced hemolytic potential (∼ 9%) of the NLCs compared to that of the test formulations. The HePC-NLCs demonstrated enhanced pharmacokinetic behaviour over free drug, including extended blood circulation and an abridged clearance rate in rats. Furthermore, the HePC-NLCs exhibited higher cytotoxicity than the free drug in MCF-7 and SCC-7 cells. Moreover, the HePC-NLCs showed significantly enhanced (P < 0.005) antitumor activity compared to that of the control and free drug-treated mouse groups. Tumour cell apoptosis was also confirmed, indicating the antitumor potential of the HePC-NLCs.Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the ability of NLCs as a drug delivery system for enhanced pharmacokinetic, antitumor, and apoptotic effects, most importantly when loaded with HePC.Keywords: breast cancer, miltefosine, nano lipid carriers, bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, antitumor efficacy

The current study demonstrated the synthesis of 2-aminothiazole [S3(a-d) and S5(a-d)] and 2-aminopyridine [S4(a-d) and S6(a-d)] derivatives that can target multiple cellular networks implicated in cancer development. Methods: Biological assays were performed to investigate the antioxidant and anticancer potential of synthesized compounds. Redox imbalance and oxidative stress are hallmarks of cancer, therefore, synthesized compounds were preliminarily screened for their antioxidant activity using DPPH assay, and further five derivatives S3b, S3c, S4c, S5b, and S6c, with significant antioxidant potential, were selected for investigation of in vitro anticancer potential. The cytotoxic activities were evaluated against the parent (A2780) and cisplatin-resistant (A2780CISR) ovarian cancer cell lines. Further, Molecular docking studies of active compounds were performed to determine binding affinities. Results: Results revealed that S3c, S5b, and S6c displayed promising inhibition in cisplatin-resistant cell lines in comparison to parent cells in terms of both resistance factor (RF) and IC50 values. Moreover, S3c proved to be most active compound in both parent and resistant cell lines with IC50 values 15.57 μM and 11.52 μM respectively. Our docking studies demonstrated that compounds S3c, S5b, and S6c exhibited significant binding affinity with multiple protein targets of the signaling cascade. Conclusion: Anticancer activities of compounds S3c, S5b, and S6c in cisplatin-resistant cell lines suggested that these ligands may contribute as lead compounds for the development of new anticancer drugs. Keywords: thiazole, pyridine, antioxidant activity, anticancer activity, molecular docking

- Abstract
This paper focuses on the role of control, power and people in utilising school grounds for play. Despite children's right to play in statute and evidence that play has positive outcomes for children, evidence suggests that school grounds are under-utilised. An action research methodology was adopted with three primary schools in Wales (UK), opening school grounds after school hours. Findings indicate that power and control are factors affecting accessibility and use of outdoor spaces, particularly in relation to who was allowed access to play spaces, where children were allowed, as well as when and what types of play were acceptable.

This study investigates turbulent open-channel flows over beds of irregularly arranged particles, using direct numerical simulations at a friction Reynolds number of R e τ = 300. Two distinct cases are examined: a polydisperse bed (P800) composed of multiple layers of randomly distributed spheres of varying sizes, and a monodisperse bed (M1015) formed by a random distribution of uniform sized spheres, with a bottommost single layer of varied-sized particles to introduce realistic randomness. Our investigation unveils a rich network of low- and high-speed streaks within the flow field, exhibiting distinctive behaviors in different bed configurations. The P800 case presents a poorly organized flow pattern induced by the varied particle sizes and arrangements, while the M1015 case shows a more regular flow pattern, marked by larger streaks. We also observe that total wall shear stress is substantially influenced by surface roughness-induced drag, extending beyond the effects documented in existing studies of open-channel flows. The present study reveals intricate secondary flow patterns over irregular particle beds. Large-scale circulations are discerned around particle crests in the P800 case and localized circulations with increased turbulence in the M1015 case. Furthermore, analysis of Reynolds stress tensor components indicates that roughness disrupts coherent turbulent eddies, consequently mitigating peak stress. We quantify correlations between drag force and local fluid velocity fluctuations. Notably, a larger deviation in drag is observed in the P800 case compared to M1015, accentuating the influence of particle size and distribution on fluid–particle interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - Abstract
This paper is devoted to study the stability/instability of the expansionfree self gravitating source in the framework of Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The source has been taken as Tolman-Bondi model which is homogenous in nature. The field equations as dynamical equations have been evaluated in Gauss-Bonnet gravity in five dimensions. The junction conditions as well as cavity evaluations equations have been explored in detail. The perturbation scheme of first order has been applied to dynamical as Einstein Gauss-Bonnet field equations. The concept of Newtonian as well post Newtonian approximation have been used to derive general dynamical stability equations. In general this equation represents the stability of the gravitating source. Some particular values of system parameters have been chosen to prove the concept of stability graphically. It has been mentioned that other than chosen the particular values of the parameters the stability of the system would be disturbed, hence it would leads to instability., Comment: 19 Pages, 6 figures

However, drug toxicity and resistance are its two major limitations. The aim of this investigation was to test the cytotoxic activity of potential phytochemicals alone and in combination with cisplatin in cervical cancer cells. Methods: In this study, cytotoxicity of phytochemicals including wedelolactone (WDL), betulinic acid (BA) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) was investigated in human cervical cancer cell line HeLa through 3-(4, 5-Dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2, 5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) reduction assay. Combined drug action resulting from the combination of cisplatin with WDL and BA was investigated in the same cell line through median effect principle. The combination index (CI) was taken as a measure of combined drug action. Results: BA resulted in synergistic outcome when co-administered with cisplatin at 0/0 time; (bolus administration) while administration of either drug (cisplatin or BA) four hours before the other (0/4 or 4/0) resulted in antagonistic action. WDL, on the other hand, was found out to be synergistic at any of the applied sequence of drug administration (0/0, 0/4 or 4/0).Discussion and Conclusion: This is the first study reporting cytotoxic activity of WDL in HeLa cells either as single agent or in combination with cisplatin. These results support the idea that sequential combination of cisplatin with WDL and BA may work effectively in cervical cancer cells. Keywords: HeLa, wedelolactone; WDL, betulinic acid; BA, MTT reduction assay, combination index; CI, synergism

General Engineering - Abstract
Introduction: Bangladesh is one of the most densely inhabited countries in the world. Road traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of morbidity, and the incidence of blunt abdominal injuries is on the rise. Over the last several years, the treatment of blunt abdominal injury (BAI) has changed dramatically. Conservative or non-operative treatment (NOM) of liver, spleen, and kidney injuries has proven to be quite effective. Methods of study: A prospective observational study was done in Dhaka medical college with 50 consecutive patients included from January 2010 to June 2010. Results: Within the 50 consecutive patients 88% were male, and 64% were motor vehicular crashes. 26 patients (52%) had a liver injury; 5 (10%) had a renal injury; 7 (14%) had a splenic injury and 3 (6%) had a pancreatic injury; 9(18%), 2 patients (4%) had both liver and spleen injury, 3 patients (6%) had both spleen and kidney injury. 39 (78%) patients were managed successfully by a conservative approach. Compared with these patients who underwent non-operative management (NOM) initially, patients in the operative group had a higher injury severity score. (p < 0.001). Twenty-seven patients (high risk) were successfully treated without surgery. No serious complication was found on routine image follow-up. Conclusion: Conservative or non-operative management of blunt abdominal solid organ injury in hemodynamically stable patients is highly successful in many fields when compared with the operative group, including the outcomes of morbidity, mortality, and length of hospital stay.

Background and purpose — There is no consensus on the association between global femoral offset (FO) and outcome after total hip arthroplasty (THA). We assessed the association between FO and patients’ reported hip function, quality of life, and abductor muscle strength. Patients and methods — We included 250 patients with unilateral hip osteoarthritis who underwent a THA. Before the operation, the patient’s reported hip function was evaluated with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) index and quality of life was evaluated with EQ-5D. At 1-year follow-up, the same scores and also hip abductor muscle strength were measured. 222 patients were available for follow-up. These patients were divided into 3 groups according to the postoperative global FO of the operated hip compared to the contralateral hip, as measured on plain radiographs: the decreased FO group (more than 5 mm reduction), the restored FO group (within 5 mm restoration), and the increased FO group (more than 5 mm increment). Results — All 3 groups improved (p

The goal of treatment is shifting from merely salvaging vision to maintaining a high quality of life. There have been significant breakthroughs in the identification of viable drug targets and gene therapies. Imaging tools with near-histological precision have enhanced our knowledge about pathophysiological mechanisms that play a role in vision loss due to AMD. Visual, social, and vocational rehabilitation are all important treatment goals. In this review, evidence from landmark clinical trials is summarized to elucidate the optimum modern-day management of neovascular AMD. Therapeutic strategies currently under development, such as gene therapy and personalized medicine, are also described. This paper presents an encompassing literature review on the utilization of numerical modeling techniques in the domain of helical pile engineering. The review showcases the progression and insights gained through numerical methodologies, providing valuable perspectives on helical pile behavior under varying conditions. The integration of Finite Element Analysis and other numerical approaches enables accurate prediction of load-bearing capacities, deformation characteristics, and failure mechanisms. Additionally, the review highlights the synergy between numerical simulations and experimental validation, emphasizing their potential to refine design guidelines. By addressing factors like soil heterogeneity and dynamic effects, numerical models contribute substantially to optimizing helical pile design. Although the field has advanced, ongoing research is essential to further enhance the accuracy and applicability of these models, ultimately facilitating the efficient and sustainable use of helical piles in diverse geotechnical scenarios. It is based on statistical models that rely on past earthquake data and simulations of future earthquake scenarios to predict the structure or system's behavior under seismic forces. The buildings' seismic structural performance is assessed based on five different performance levels, including operational phase, immediate occupancy, damage control, life safety, and collapse prevention (CP). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim Previous studies reported conflicting evidence on the effects of obesity on outcomes after gastrointestinal surgery. The aims of this study were to explore the relationship of obesity with major postoperative complications in an international cohort and to present a meta-analysis of all available prospective data. Methods This prospective, multicentre study included adults undergoing both elective and emergency gastrointestinal resection, reversal of stoma or formation of stoma. The primary end-point was 30-day major complications (Clavien-Dindo Grades III-V). A systematic search was undertaken for studies assessing the relationship between obesity and major complications after gastrointestinal surgery. Individual patient meta-analysis was used to analyse pooled results. Results This study included 2519 patients across 127 centres, of whom 560 (22.2%) were obese. Unadjusted major complication rates were lower in obese vs normal weight patients (13.0% vs 16.2%, respectively), but this did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.863) on multivariate analysis for patients having surgery for either malignant or benign conditions. Individual patient meta-analysis demonstrated that obese patients undergoing surgery for malignancy were at increased risk of major complications (OR 2.10, 95% CI 1.49-2.96, P Conclusions In our international data, obesity was not found to be associated with major complications following gastrointestinal surgery. Meta-analysis of available prospective data made a novel finding of obesity being associated with different outcomes depending on whether patients were undergoing surgery for benign or malignant disease.
