Dark Field X-ray Microscopy (DFXM) is a full-field imaging technique for non-destructive 3D mapping of orientation and strain in crystalline elements. The new DFXM beamline at ID03, developed as part of the ESRF Phase II Upgrade Project (EBSL2), was designed to provide cutting-edge capabilities for studying embedded microstructures. The project relocated and upgraded the end station from ID06-HXM to ID03, integrating new X-ray optics, radiation hutches, and a source device optimized for this advanced technique. Notable improvements include a near-field camera, a new goniometer, and a high-resolution far-field camera. The conceptual design was completed in September 2019, followed by the technical design in March 2021, with first users welcomed in April 2024. Building on the success of the original instrument, the ID03 beamline offers enhanced multi-scale and multi-modal mapping of microstructures with high resolution, enabling in-situ exploration of complex phenomena. Applications range from strain and orientation mapping in metals to studies of functional materials, semiconductors, biominerals, and energy systems.

The search for a Kitaev quantum spin liquid in crystalline magnetic materials has fueled intense interest in the two-dimensional honeycomb systems. Many promising candidate Kitaev systems are characterized by a long range ordered magnetic structure with an antiferromagnetic zigzag-type order, where the static moments form alternating ferromagnetic chains. Recent experiments on high-quality single crystals uncovered the existence of intriguing multi-$\mathbf{k}$ magnetic structures, which evolved from zigzag structures. Those discoveries have sparked new theoretical developments and amplified interest in these materials. (Symmetric) monoidal theories encapsulate presentations by generators and equations for (symmetric) monoidal categories. Terms of a monoidal theory are typically represented pictorially using string diagrams. In this work we introduce and study a quantitative version of monoidal theories, where instead of equality one may reason more abstractly about distance between string diagrams. This is in analogy with quantitative algebraic theories by Mardare et al., but developed in a monoidal rather than cartesian setting. Our framework paves the way for a quantitative analysis of string diagrammatic calculi for resource-sensitive processes, as found e.g. in quantum theory, machine learning, cryptography, and digital circuit theory.

We introduce a new software package, DarkMatters, which has been designed to facilitate the calculation of all aspects of indirect dark matter detection of WIMPs in astrophysical settings. Two primary features of this code are the improvement in performance compared to existing tools, and higher levels of accuracy when determining radio synchrotron emission associated with WIMP annihilations, both of which are enabled by the employment of a set of modern and novel numerical techniques. The code also includes functionality for a multi-wavelength set of output products including gamma-ray, radio and neutrino fluxes which can be saved in common formats used by the astronomical community, such as the FITS data file format. The calculations may be tailored to work with a wide range of astrophysical target structures, from dwarf galaxies to galaxy clusters, and the configuration of the underlying calculations is managed by a set of key-value dictionary entries that are easy to understand and use. Hot and warm Jupiters might have undergone the same formation and evolution path, but the two populations exhibit different distributions of orbital parameters, challenging our understanding on their actual origin. The present work, which is the results of our warm Jupiters survey carried out with the CHIRON spectrograph within the KESPRINT collaboration, aims to address this challenge by studying two planets that could help bridge the gap between the two populations. We report the confirmation and mass determination of a hot Jupiter (orbital period shorter than 10 days), TOI-2420\,b, and a warm Jupiter, TOI-2485\,b. We performed a joint analysis using a wide variety of spectral and photometric data in order to characterize these planetary systems. We found that TOI-2420\,b has an orbital period of P$_{\rm b}$=5.8 days, a mass of M$_{\rm b}$=0.9 M$_{\rm J}$ and a radius of R$_{\rm b}$=1.3 R$_{\rm J}$, with a planetary density of 0.477 \gc; while TOI-2485\,b has an orbital period of P$_{\rm b}$=11.2 days, a mass of M$_{\rm b}$=2.4 M$_{\rm J}$ and a radius of R$_{\rm b}$=1.1 R$_{\rm J}$ with density 2.36 \gc. With current parameters, the migration history for TOI-2420\,b and TOI-2485\,b is unclear: the high-eccentricity migration scenarios cannot be ruled out, and TOI-2485\,b's characteristics may rather support this scenario.

We investigate C+L+S long-haul systems using a closed-form GN/EGN non-linearity model. We perform accurate launch power and Raman pump optimization. We show a potential 4x throughput increase over legacy C-band systems in 1000 km links, using moderate S-only Raman amplification. Millicharged particles, proposed by various extensions of the standard model, can be created in pairs by high-energy photons within nuclear reactors and can interact electromagnetically with electrons in matter. Recently, the existence of a plasmon peak in the interaction cross-section with silicon in the eV range was highlighted as a promising approach to enhance low-energy sensitivities. The CONNIE and Atucha-II reactor neutrino experiments utilize Skipper-CCD sensors, which enable the detection of interactions in the eV range. The Data Acquisition System (DAQ) for the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter detector is described. The signals from 745 PMTs, distributed across three subsystems, are sampled with 100-MHz 32-channel digitizers (DDC-32s). A basic waveform analysis is carried out on the on-board Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to extract information about the observed scintillation and electroluminescence signals. This information is used to determine if the digitized waveforms should be preserved for offline analysis. The system is designed around the Kintex-7 FPGA. In addition to digitizing the PMT signals and providing basic event selection in real time, the flexibility provided by the use of FPGAs allows us to monitor the performance of the detector and the DAQ in parallel to normal data acquisition. In this paper, we present EdgeRelight360, an approach for real-time video portrait relighting on mobile devices, utilizing text-conditioned generation of 360-degree high dynamic range image (HDRI) maps. Our method proposes a diffusion-based text-to-360-degree image generation in the HDR domain, taking advantage of the HDR10 standard. This technique facilitates the generation of high-quality, realistic lighting conditions from textual descriptions, offering flexibility and control in portrait video relighting task. Unlike the previous relighting frameworks, our proposed system performs video relighting directly on-device, enabling real-time inference with real 360-degree HDRI maps. This on-device processing ensures both privacy and guarantees low runtime, providing an immediate response to changes in lighting conditions or user inputs. Objective: This study introduces a novel method for defining virtual resections in liver cancer surgery, aimed at enhancing the adaptability of parenchyma-sparing resection (PSR) plans. By comparing these with traditional anatomical resection (AR) plans, we explore the potential for optimization in surgical planning. Methods: Leveraging contours and spline surface approximations directly from the liver's surface, our method aligns closely with actual surgical procedures, offering a more realistic representation of curved resection paths. This technique, tested against 14 cases from the OSLO-COMET study, incorporates surface deformation for versatile plan modeling, comparing volumetric outcomes of PSR and AR. Results: The study highlights significant benefits of PSR over AR, including reduced resected volume ($32.71 \pm 13.80$ ml for PSR vs. $249.53 \pm 135.23$ ml for AR, $p <0.0001$) and higher remnant liver volume ($1922.77 \pm 442.86$ ml for PSR vs. $1716.87 \pm 403.00$ ml for AR, $p <0.0001$). PSR also showed a considerably higher remnant percentage ($98.16 \pm 0.81%$) compared to AR ($87.40 \pm 6.49%$, $p <0.0001$). Conclusion: The proposed approach is able to define virtual resections accommodating a wide variety of resections (i.e., PSR and AR). Careful surgical planning using virtual resections can optimize the resection strategy. Significance: This study presents a novel computer-aided planning system for liver surgery, demonstrating its efficacy and flexibility for definition of virtual resections. Virtual surgery planning can be used for optimization of resection strategies leading to increased preservation of healthy tissue.

The Coherent Neutrino-Nucleus Interaction Experiment (CONNIE) aims to detect the coherent scattering (CE$\nu$NS) of reactor antineutrinos off silicon nuclei using thick fully-depleted high-resistivity silicon CCDs. Two Skipper-CCD sensors with sub-electron readout noise capability were installed at the experiment next to the Angra-2 reactor in 2021, making CONNIE the first experiment to employ Skipper-CCDs for reactor neutrino detection. We report on the performance of the Skipper-CCDs, the new data processing and data quality selection techniques and the event selection for CE$\nu$NS interactions, which enable CONNIE to reach a record low detection threshold of 15 eV. The data were collected over 300 days in 2021-2022 and correspond to exposures of 14.9 g-days with the reactor-on and 3.5 g-days with the reactor-off. The difference between the reactor-on and off event rates shows no excess and yields upper limits at 95% confidence level for the neutrino interaction rates comparable with previous CONNIE limits from standard CCDs and higher exposures. Searches for new neutrino interactions beyond the Standard Model were performed, yielding an improvement on the previous CONNIE limit on a simplified model with light vector mediators. A first dark matter (DM) search by diurnal modulation was performed by CONNIE and the results represent the best limits on the DM-electron scattering cross-section, obtained by a surface-level experiment. These promising results, obtained using a very small-mass sensor, illustrate the potential of Skipper-CCDs to probe rare neutrino interactions and motivate the plans to increase the detector mass in the near future.

We report the discovery and characterization of three giant exoplanets orbiting solar-analog stars, detected by the \tess space mission and confirmed through ground-based photometry and radial velocity (RV) measurements taken at La Silla observatory with \textit{FEROS}. TOI-2373\,b is a warm Jupiter orbiting its host star every $\sim$ 13.3 days, and is one of the two most massive known exoplanet with a precisely determined mass and radius around a star similar to the Sun, with an estimated mass of m$_p$ = $9.3^{+0.2}_{-0.2}\,M_{\mathrm{jup}}$, and a radius of $r_p$ = $0.93^{+0.2}_{-0.2}\,R_{\mathrm{jup}}$. With a mean density of $\rho = 14.4^{+0.9}_{-1.0}\,\mathrm{g\,cm}^{-3}$, TOI-2373\,b is among the densest planets discovered so far. TOI-2416\,b orbits its host star on a moderately eccentric orbit with a period of $\sim$ 8.3 days and an eccentricity of $e$ = $0.32^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$. TOI-2416\,b is more massive than Jupiter with $m_p$ = 3.0$^{+0.10}_{-0.09}\,M_{\mathrm{jup}}$, however is significantly smaller with a radius of $r_p$ = $0.88^{+0.02}_{-0.02},R_{\mathrm{jup}}$, leading to a high mean density of $\rho = 5.4^{+0.3}_{-0.3}\,\mathrm{g\,cm}^{-3}$. TOI-2524\,b is a warm Jupiter near the hot Jupiter transition region, orbiting its star every $\sim$ 7.2 days on a circular orbit. It is less massive than Jupiter with a mass of $m_p$ = $0.64^{+0.04}_{-0.04}\,M_{\mathrm{jup}}$, and is consistent with an inflated radius of $r_p$ = $1.00^{+0.02}_{-0.03}\,R_{\mathrm{jup}}$, leading to a low mean density of $\rho = 0.79^{+0.08}_{-0.08}\,\mathrm{g\,cm}^{-3}$. The newly discovered exoplanets TOI-2373\,b, TOI-2416\,b, and TOI-2524\,b have estimated equilibrium temperatures of $860^{+10}_{-10}$ K, $1080^{+10}_{-10}$ K, and $1100^{+20}_{-20}$ K, respectively, placing them in the sparsely populated transition zone between hot and warm Jupiters.

Computationally feasible multipartite entanglement measures are needed to advance our understanding of complex quantum systems. An entanglement measure based on the Fubini-Study metric has been recently introduced by Cocchiarella and co-workers, showing several advantages over existing methods, including ease of computation, a deep geometrical interpretation, and applicability to multipartite entanglement. Here, we present the Gaussian Entanglement Measure (GEM), a generalization of geometric entanglement measure for multimode Gaussian states, based on the purity of fragments of the whole systems. Our analysis includes the application of GEM to a two-mode Gaussian state coupled through a combined beamsplitter and a squeezing transformation. Additionally, we explore 3-mode and 4-mode graph states, where each vertex represents a bosonic mode, and each edge represents a quadratic transformation for various graph topologies. Interestingly, the ratio of the geometric entanglement measures for graph states with different topologies naturally captures properties related to the connectivity of the underlying graphs. Finally, by providing a computable multipartite entanglement measure for systems with a large number of degrees of freedom, we show that our definition can be used to obtain insights into a free bosonic field theory on $\mathbb R_t\times S^1$, going beyond the standard bipartite entanglement entropy approach between different regions of spacetime. We propose INFAMOUS-NeRF, an implicit morphable face model that introduces hypernetworks to NeRF to improve the representation power in the presence of many training subjects. At the same time, INFAMOUS-NeRF resolves the classic hypernetwork tradeoff of representation power and editability by learning semantically-aligned latent spaces despite the subject-specific models, all without requiring a large pretrained model. INFAMOUS-NeRF further introduces a novel constraint to improve NeRF rendering along the face boundary. Our constraint can leverage photometric surface rendering and multi-view supervision to guide surface color prediction and improve rendering near the surface. Finally, we introduce a novel, loss-guided adaptive sampling method for more effective NeRF training by reducing the sampling redundancy. We show quantitatively and qualitatively that our method achieves higher representation power than prior face modeling methods in both controlled and in-the-wild settings. This research is about COVID-19, which is a contagious virus that reached many countries, including Lebanon. Monitoring the outbreak, researchers have been involved in introducing COVID-19 targeting vaccines. Already facing financial and political issues, Lebanon was further affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. The hereby research tends to design the optimum vaccination plan to reach the recommended herd immunity in Lebanon. The scheme is drafted per application of the queue modeling where the essential parameters revolve around the arrival rate (the mean of which is 536 people) and service rate. Based on a two-stage cluster sampling method, this data is collected from six vaccination centers located in Beirut. The outcomes were computed through R statistical software after validating the stability condition. Per the results, the mean number of people in the network queue ranges between 4.1 and 5.2. In contrast, the time spent by individuals extends from around 5.7 up to 8 minutes, having an average of 5 servers for system one and 4 servers for system two. Therefore, the optimization of the vaccination plan followed in Lebanon necessitates the consistency of arrivals and the decrease of the service time. Furthermore, the service rate can be maximized by adding servers on both systems of the network queue. The Mott insulator $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ has generated great interest in the community due to its possible field-induced Kitaev quantum spin liquid state. Despite enormous effort spent trying to obtain the form of the low energy Hamiltonian, there is currently no agreed upon set of parameters which is able to explain all of the data. A key piece of missing information lies in the determination of the magnetic form factor of Ru$^{3+}$, particularly for a true quantitative treatment of inelastic neutron scattering data. Here we present the experimentally derived magnetic form factor of Ru$^{3+}$ in the low spin 4$d^5$ state using polarized neutron diffraction within the paramagnetic regime on high quality single crystals of $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. We observe strong evidence of an anisotropic form factor, expected of the spin-orbit coupled $j_{\textrm{eff}} = \frac{1}{2}$ ground state. We model the static magnetization density in increasing complexity from simple isotropic cases, to a multipolar expansion, and finally \emph{ab initio} calculations of the generalized $j_{\textrm{eff}} = \frac{1}{2}$ ground state. Comparison of both single ion models and inclusion of Cl$^-$ anions support the presence of hybridization of Ru$^{3+}$ with the surrounding Cl$^{-}$ ligands.

We report magnetization and neutron diffraction studies on crystal and magnetic structures of Ir- and Rh-substituted honeycomb lattice $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. The iridium or rhodium atoms are distributed at the Ru site with little structural modification. Both systems undergo a room-temperature monoclinic $C2/m$ to low-temperature trigonal $R\bar{3}$ phase transformation with a large recoverable hysteresis. At low temperature, a zigzag spin order is observed with the same characteristic wavevector $(0,0.5,1)$ as in the parent $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. Detailed magnetic structure refinement reveals an ordered moment of $\rm 0.32(5) \mu_B/Ru$ and a upper boundary of canting angle of $15(4)^\circ$ away from the basal plane at 5~K for the 10\% Ir-substituted $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$, which is different from the 0.45-0.73~$\rm \mu_B/Ru$ and $32^\circ$-$48^\circ$ canting angle reported in the parent compound $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. The observation of unchanged RuCl$_6$ local octahedral environment, reduced magnetic moment size and canting angle highlights the potential to study quantum spin liquid behavior through non-magnetic ion doping., Comment: 10 pages 9 figures

In 2020, according to WHO, breast cancer affected 2.3 million women worldwide, resulting in 685,000 fatalities. By the end of the year, approximately 7.8 million women worldwide had survived their breast cancer making it the most widespread form of cancer globally. Surgical treatment decisions, including choosing between oncoplastic options, often require quick decision-making within an 8-week time frame. However, many women lack the necessary knowledge and preparation for making such complex informed decisions. Anxiety and unsatisfactory outcomes can result from inadequate decision-making processes, leading to complications and the need for revision surgeries. Shared decision-making and personalized decision aids have shown positive effects on patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes. This paper introduces Breamy, a prototype mobile health (mHealth) application that utilizes augmented reality (AR) technology to assist breast cancer patients in making informed decisions. The app provides 3D visualizations of different oncoplastic procedures, aiming to improve confidence in surgical decision-making, reduce decisional regret, and enhance patient well-being after surgery. To determine the perception of the usefulness of Breamy, we collected data from 166 participants through an online survey. The results suggest that Breamy has the potential to reduce patient's anxiety levels and assist them during the decision-making process.

Radio-frequency, indirect dark matter searches have recently been gaining prevalence, due to the high sensitivity and resolution capabilities of the new generation of radio interferometers. MeerKAT is currently one of the most sensitive instruments of its kind, making it ideal for indirect dark matter searches. By making use of publicly available data from the MeerKAT Galaxy Cluster Legacy Survey we are able to use both the observed diffuse synchrotron emission and non-detections to constrain the WIMP dark matter parameter space. In addition to a subset of generic WIMP annihilation channels, we probe the dark matter candidate within the 2HDM+S particle physics model, which was developed as an explanation for anomalies observed in the Large Hadron Collider data from runs 1 and 2. By undertaking a statistical analysis of the radio flux densities within galaxy clusters we are able to exclude the thermal relic value for WIMP masses $< \, \sim 1000 $ GeV for annihilation into bottom quarks with our median case. Portrait synthesis creates realistic digital avatars which enable users to interact with others in a compelling way. Recent advances in StyleGAN and its extensions have shown promising results in synthesizing photorealistic and accurate reconstruction of human faces. However, previous methods often focus on frontal face synthesis and most methods are not able to handle large head rotations due to the training data distribution of StyleGAN. In this work, our goal is to take as input a monocular video of a face, and create an editable dynamic portrait able to handle extreme head poses. The user can create novel viewpoints, edit the appearance, and animate the face. Our method utilizes pivotal tuning inversion (PTI) to learn a personalized video prior from a monocular video sequence. Then we can input pose and expression coefficients to MLPs and manipulate the latent vectors to synthesize different viewpoints and expressions of the subject. We also propose novel loss functions to further disentangle pose and expression in the latent space. Non-covalent interactions are a key ingredient to determine the structure, stability, and dynamics of materials, molecules, and biological complexes. However, accurately capturing these interactions is a complex quantum many-body problem, with no efficient solution available on classical computers. A widely used model to accurately and efficiently model non-covalent interactions is the Coulomb-coupled quantum Drude oscillator (cQDO) many-body Hamiltonian, for which no exact solution is known. We show that the cQDO model lends itself naturally to simulation on a photonic quantum computer, and we calculate the binding energy curve of diatomic systems by leveraging Xanadu's Strawberry Fields photonics library. Our study substantially extends the applicability of quantum computing to atomistic modeling, by showing a proof-of-concept application to non-covalent interactions, beyond the standard electronic-structure problem of small molecules. Remarkably, we find that two coupled bosonic QDOs exhibit a stable bond. In addition, our study suggests efficient functional forms for cQDO wavefunctions that can be optimized on classical computers, and capture the bonded-to-noncovalent transition for increasing interatomic distances. We present a generalisation of the theory of quantitative algebras of Mardare, Panangaden and Plotkin where (i) the carriers of quantitative algebras are not restricted to be metric spaces and can be arbitrary fuzzy relations or generalised metric spaces, and (ii) the interpretations of the algebraic operations are not required to be nonexpansive. Our main results include: a novel sound and complete proof system, the proof that free quantitative algebras always exist, the proof of strict monadicity of the induced Free-Forgetful adjunction, the result that all monads (on fuzzy relations) that lift finitary monads (on sets) admit a quantitative equational presentation.

We report the discovery and orbital characterization of three new transiting warm giant planets. These systems were initially identified as presenting single transit events in the light curves generated from the full frame images of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Follow-up radial velocity measurements and additional light curves were used to determine the orbital periods and confirm the planetary nature of the candidates. The planets orbit slightly metal-rich late F- and early G-type stars. We find that TOI 4406b has a mass of $M_P$= 0.30 $\pm$ 0.04 $M_J$ , a radius of $R_P$= 1.00 $\pm$ 0.02 $R_J$ , and a low eccentricity orbit (e=0.15 $\pm$ 0.05) with a period of P= 30.08364 $\pm$ 0.00005 d . TOI 2338b has a mass of $M_P$= 5.98 $\pm$ 0.20 $M_J$ , a radius of $R_P$= 1.00 $\pm$ 0.01 $R_J$ , and a highly eccentric orbit (e= 0.676 $\pm$ 0.002 ) with a period of P= 22.65398 $\pm$ 0.00002 d . Finally, TOI 2589b has a mass of $M_P$= 3.50 $\pm$ 0.10 $M_J$ , a radius of $R_P$= 1.08 $\pm$ 0.03 $R_J$ , and an eccentric orbit (e = 0.522 $\pm$ 0.006 ) with a period of P= 61.6277 $\pm$ 0.0002 d . We present a model of the ionization efficiency, or quenching factor, for low-energy nuclear recoils, based on a solution to Lindhard integral equation with binding energy and apply it to the calculation of the relative scintillation efficiency and charge yield for nuclear recoils in noble liquid detectors. The quenching model incorporates a constant average binding energy together with an electronic stopping power proportional to the ion velocity, and is an essential input in an analysis of charge recombination processes to predict the ionization and scintillation yields. Our results are comparable to NEST simulations of LXe and LAr and are in good agreement with available data.
