The study examined Xenentodon cancila (Hamilton) breeding biology, reproduction, and larval rearing. In this study, gonadosomatic index (GSI) and fecundity were measured for breeding biology every 15 days. Nine doses of common carp pituitary gland (CPG), human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), and Ovaprim for breeding were administered, except in the control treatment that was without hormones. Mustard oil cake (D1), powdered feed (D2), and one-day-old live tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) larvae (D3) were used to determine larval survival after 28 days. From the end of May to mid-July, the mean GSI value exceeded 15 ± 0.72%, peaking at 16.02 ± 1.28% in June. Mean fecundity ranged from 110 ± 13.34 to 2961 ± 318.57, peaking at the end of June 2019, which indicated that this was the peak breeding season for X. cancila. The best spawning was with CPG at 20 mg kg−1 fish body weight (BW) and Ovaprim at 1.0 ml kg−1 BW, but the control group (B) and the group administered 500 IU kg-1 HCG (H1) did not spawn. Latency and hatching periods were 19-21 and 260-288 h, respectively. The highest fertilization, hatching, and survival rates were 92 ± 4.63%, 69 ± 5.52%, and 66 ± 4.11% with 20 mg kg−1 CPG (C2), while the next closest value was recorded with 1.0 ml kg−1 Ovaprim (O2). After 28 days, D3 had the highest survival rate (47.5 ± 4.62%), followed by D2 (31 ± 2.42%), and D1 (18 ± 1.54%). The findings will be useful for hatcheries, fish farmers, the ornamental fish sector, and biodiversity protection.

Evaluating the breeding performance of cultivable fish using gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues is crucial for optimizing reproductive efficiency and enhancing the sustainability of aquaculture practices. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding which GnRH analogue performs best under hatchery conditions for stinging catfish. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the breeding performance of stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis) using three commercially available GnRH analogs: Wova-FH, Ovaprim, and Easy-spawn. For this purpose, an experiment was set up in a commercial hatchery by dividing the samples into three groups, each treated with one of the analogs: Wova-FH, Ovaprim, or Easy-spawn. In the experiment, a ratio of 1.5:1 male to female was maintained, and 1 mL syringes were used to inject the analogs. The results showed that the spawning induction efficiency differed among the three inducing agents. Compared to Ovaprim and Easy-spawn, Wova-FH-treated H. fossilis exhibited higher breeding success in all measured aspects. Specifically, Wova-FH achieved a latency period of 8 h, an ovulation rate of 87.25%, a fertilization rate of 89.33%, a hatching rate of 88.85%, and an incubation period of 16 h. In comparison, Ovaprim and Easy-spawn had incubation periods of 18 h and 24 h, respectively. In Ovaprim-induced individuals, the latency period was approximately 8.30 h, with an ovulation rate of 82.08%, a fertilization rate of 86.75%, and a hatching rate of 85.97%. In contrast, the Easy-spawn-induced individuals had a latency period of 9 h, an ovulation rate of 27.50%, a fertilization rate of 27.10%, and a hatching rate of 26.15%. Significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed among the treatments in both the ovulation rate, fertilization rate, latency period incubation period, and hatching rate. The findings suggest that Wova-FH is a superior alternative to Ovaprim and Easy-spawn for GnRH analogs in the induced breeding programs of H. fossilis , offering optimal yield. Botia dario is categorized as endangered due to considerable drop in population over past two decades creates data thin condition where the nonparametric statistical methods are superior alternative approach for data drafting. Small data set necessitate graphical display reducing the chance of data compression by numerical analyses. Monthly mass and length density estimates, location, and spread were compared with R computing environment through charts and plots; proposing a graphical method for single discrete and continuous data analyses. Through graphicacy the novel method reveals the pattern for mass and length of B. dario by depicting the modes and skews of the kernel density estimates suggested wide fluctuations during pre-monsoon months; whereas the spreads and locations of boxplots draping dot-whiskers infer the Gaussian kernel by pairwise comparisons. The boxplot widths, notches of the boxplots and red dot-whiskers illustrate comprehensive variations. The novel method and suggestive narratives appeal for inclusive use excluding the limitations.
