Abstract

In the osmotic power generation field, reaching the industrial benchmark has been challenging because of the need for capillaries close to the sizes of ions and molecules. Here, we fabricated well-controlled 'along-the-capillary' membranes of Na-vermiculite with a capillary size of ~5 Angstrom. They exhibit 1600 times enhanced conductivity compared to commonly studied 'across-the-capillary' membranes. Interestingly, they show a very high cation selectivity of 0.83 for NaCl solutions, which resulted in large power densities of 9.6 W.m^-2 and 12.2 W.m^-2 at concentration gradients of 50 and 1000, respectively, at 296 K, for an unusually large membrane length of 100 micron. The power density shows an exponential increase with temperature, reaching 65.1 W.m-2 for a concentration gradient of 50 at 333 K. Abstract

Dating apps such as Tinder have announced plans for a dating metaverse: the incorporation of XR technologies into the online dating process to augment interactions between potential sexual partners across virtual and physical worlds. While the dating metaverse is still in conceptual stages we can forecast significant harms that it may expose daters to given prior research into the frequency and severity of sexual harms facilitated by dating apps as well as harms within social VR environments. In this workshop paper we envision how XR could enrich virtual-to-physical interaction between potential sexual partners and outline harms that it will likely perpetuate as well. Abstract

Background Methods Results Conclusions The survival rate of LVAD recipients may be improved by eliminating the infection failure mode at the percutaneous lead entry site. Wireless powering through a Transcutaneous Energy Transfer System (TETS) is a promising solution for achieving this. However, automatic controls need to be employed to compensate for the variations in efficiency and power transfer due to changes in load and coil‐to‐coil gaps.This article discusses the results of in vitro and animal models performance evaluation of an automatically controlled TETS for powering a Left Ventricular Assist Device.It was found that power up to 20 W could be transferred at an axial gap of 30 mm. A 5% variation in speed and a 2% change in flow rate are observed with the change in tissue thickness, in porcine carcass model.The LVAD could be operated at the required RPM irrespective of the change in axial positions. 34. A Dosimetric Comparison Study for Blood Irradiation Employing Different Medium and Algorithms in Clinical Linear Accelerator.

Abstract

To identify a suitable approach for blood irradiation other than the commonly used water medium and to study the impact of different algorithm dose computations. Methods: Water is the commonly used medium for blood irradiation. In this study computed tomography scans were taken with locally made blood irradiation phantoms other than water, by using air, rice powder and thermocole using parallel beam for 25 Gy. Plans were recalculated for different algorithms such as collapsed cone (CC), Monte Carlo (MC) and pencil beam (PB). The dose–volume parameters and measured doses were collected and analyzed for each medium and algorithm. Findings: The monitor unit (MU) for rice powder and water are close (2461± 57 and 2469± 61, respectively), with a maximum dose of 28.0± 1.8 and 28.0± 1.9 Gy. The PB algorithm resulted in lower monitor unit values regardless of the medium used, generating values of 2418, 2406, 2382, and 2362 for water, rice powder, air, and Thermocol, respectively. A significant increase in dose was observed irrespective of the medium used when the MC algorithm was employed, with a maximum of 30.26 Gy in rice powder; a smaller dose was used when the CC algorithm was employed, with 26.3 Gy in water medium. The average maximum doses of all groups were equal using the one-way Anova statistical test. Regarding the impact of field size, rice powder appears to have consistent doses across various field sizes, with slight increases as field size grows, which is similar to water. Novelty/Applications: While water is the conventional medium, this study highlights the potential benefits of rice powder, such as eliminating the risks associated with bubble formation and water spillage, which can lead to equipment malfunction and safety hazards. Although previous studies have explored rice powder as a bolus and tissue-equivalent material, this study uniquely applies this knowledge to blood irradiation, an area where rice powder has not been thoroughly investigated. This article introduces the utilization of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), an algorithm within the domain of machine learning, to establish a forecasting framework for the damping efficacy of Magnetorheological Fluid (MRF) foam dampers. MRF foam stands as an intelligent material that allows for the modulation of its rheological characteristics through the influence of an external magnetic field. Predicting the damping performance is crucial for the development of effective MRF foam dampers for real-time applications. The proposed ANN-based model considers the damping force as the response of interest, which is influenced by the damper parameters such as foam density, viscosity of oil, and size of iron particles. Anticipated as a dependable instrument, the MATLAB simulation is poised to serve as a trustworthy resource for forecasting and approximating the damping force exerted by MRF foam dampers across a spectrum of pragmatic damper parameter configurations. 49. Analyzing Interface Trap Influence on Sensitivity, Noise, and Response Time in 2-D Material Field-Effect Transistor pH Sensors: A Theoretical Framework

Abstract

This work evaluates the potential impact of interface traps on the interface of oxide and semiconductor on a 2-D-based ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) using a surface potential-based model and Technology Computer-Aided Design (TCAD) simulation calibrated for pH sensing applications. The electrolyte/oxide interface in the proposed 2-D ISFET model is modeled using the Guoy-Chapman–Stern technique and the site binding association model. The baseline field-effect transistor (FET) of the ISFET is modeled using Fermi-Dirac statistics to obtain surface potential, which is further used to derive a compact drain current expression. The proposed ISFET model development is carried out by accounting for the interface trap effect. The voltage and current sensitivity of ISFET with and without interface traps are calculated to demonstrate the impact of interface traps in 2-D material-based pH sensors. It is observed that voltage sensitivity remains close to the Nernst limit (59 mV/pH), and a decrease in current sensitivity from 34 to 2 nA/pH is observed, as the density of interface traps is varied from 0 to ${5}\times {10} {^{{12}}}$ cm $^{-}2 $ eV $^{-}1 $ . Another sensitivity metric, the transconductance to drain current ratio, is analyzed for its variation with changes in the density of interface traps. The noise level of ISFET in the presence of interface traps is analyzed, and its influence on the minimum resolvable pH is demonstrated. The proposed model prediction closely matches the TCAD simulation data obtained from a calibrated TCAD simulation setup. The model is suitable for implementation in Verilog-A for ISFET-based circuit simulation, and the impact of interface traps on the response time of ISFET-based circuits is also demonstrated.
