Hastaların yaşadığı ruhsal sorunların azaltılmasında eşlerin ve ailelerin de katıldığı psikoeğitim ve psikososyal destek programlarının faydalı olabileceği düşünülmektedir., In this examination, we aimed to investigate the effects of marital adjustment and perceived social support on depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and sexuality in patients with breast cancer. Fifty breast cancer patients who applied to Uludag University Medical Faculty Mental Health Department and Department of Radiation Oncology were included in the study. The Beck Depression Scale (BDS), the Beck Anxiety Scale (BAS), the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale-Woman Form (GRSSS), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MPSSS) was assessed with the Couple Adjustment Scale (CAS). As the level of couple adjustment and social support of patients increased, it was observed that there was a statistically significant decrease in BDS, BAS, and G-RSSS scores. No significant relationship was found between socio-demographic characteristics and disease-related variables and scale scores. Conclusion: Social support from partners and family members is important in patients with breast cancer diagnoses and psychosocial disorders. It is thought that psycho-education and psychosocial support programs which spouses and their families participate in reducing psychiatric problems experienced by patients can be beneficial.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that is characterized by synovitis, systemic inflammation, arthritis and vasculitis, anemia, mononeuritis, pulmonary fibrosis, and can cause joint destruction, limitation of joint movements and impairment of the patient's quality of life if not treated in right time and adequate manner. In addition to joint symptoms, neuropsychiatric symptoms such as cognitive dysfunction, behavioral changes, and mood changes may accompany rheumatoid arthritis patients. It is thought that neuroinflammatory process in rheumatoid arthritis patients, increase in proinflammatory cytokine levels in plasma; side effects of drugs used for a long time, disability that occurs with the disease, and possible common gene regions may cause these symptoms. An increasing number of studies are being published on psychiatric symptoms and disorders in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. There are many studies focusing especially on its relationship with anxiety disorders and major depressive disorder. There are increasing numbers of studies showing that the impairment of immune functions is involved in the etiology of bipolar disorder. The changes in cytokine levels in the plasma of bipolar disorder patients supports this argument. The relationship between various autoimmune diseases and bipolar disorder continues to be examined. In people with rheumatological diseases, it is important to be careful in psychiatric comorbidities in terms of patient compliance and clinical course. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Erkek cinsiyet (OR=2.0), meslek edinimi (OR=2.0), hastalık sonrası iş deneyimi (OR=1.2), eğitim düzeyi (OR=1.1) ve hastalık süresi (OR=0.9) çalışma güdülenmesinin yordayıcıları olarak saptandı. Sonuç: Çalışmayan hastaların üçte birinde çalışma güdülenmesinin olması önemli bir bulgudur. Sosyal destek kaybının olmaması bazı hastalar için işe girme açısından güdüleyici olabilir. Özellikle meslek edinmiş, eğitim düzeyi yüksek, iş deneyimi olmuş ve hastalığın erken döneminde olan hastaların işe yerleştirme hizmetleri için aday oldukları söylenebilir., Objective: Working rate in patients with schizophrenia is considerably low. Nonetheless, unemployed patients might have desire to work and look for a job. Identifying the reasons underlying the patients’ work motivation and related factors can be instructive for the vocational rehabilitation services. The purpose of this study was to determine the reasons for work motivation and to identify the predictors of motivation in unemployed patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Sociodemographic and working life information of 379 unemployed patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder diagnosed for at least two years was collected from six different centers. The patients were questioned about their desire to work and its reasons. Having desire to work and job seeking behavior together was considered as work motivation. Patients with and without having work motivation were compared regarding to their sociodemographic information and illness characteristics. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to find the factors predicting the work motivation. Results: The participants’ mean age was 42, level of education was nine years, duration of illness was 18 years, and majority consisted of males and single patients. It was found that 33% of the patients were motivated to work. While distinct underlying reasons of the work motivation were found as financial needs (45%) and will for independent living (35%), idea of not being able to deal with the requirements of the job (66%) and not receiving social welfare payment (24%) were dominant in patients who weren’t motivated to work. The predictors of work motivation were found as male gender (OR=2.0), having a profession (OR=2.0), having work experience after the illness (OR=1.2), level of education (OR=1.1), and duration of illness (OR=0.9). Conclusion: We found that one-third of unemployed patients with schizophrenia have work motivation as an important finding. The patients may feel more comfortable and motivated to work if they would continue to receive social welfare payment after they started a job. It could be concluded patients who have a profession, high level of education, previous job experience, and who are at the early stage of their illness are suitable candidates for the vocational rehabilitation services.

Tıp fakültesi öğrencileri. Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu. Anksiyete. Depresyon ,Medical students. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Anxiety. Depression - Abstract
In this study we aim to determine the prevalence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression and anxiety symptoms among senior medical students. All of the 226 senior medical students from 2014-2015 academic year were included, there has been no sampling. We reached 72.2% of the students. Data were collected via Beck Anxiety Score (BAS), Beck Depression Score (BDS), Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale and a questionnaire form which was prepared by researchers. Of all participants 17.2% (n=28) of the students were under the risk of ADHD. The median of BAS scores was 7 and 6.7% (n=11) of students had severe anxiety. The median of BDS scores was 7 and 15.3% (n=25) of the students were under the risk of depression. When we consider the results of ADHD and anxiety symptoms, we think it would be important to provide psychological consultation to medical students for preventive mental health., Bu çalışmada, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencilerinde Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB), depresyon ve anksiyete belirtilerinin prevalansının saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmaya 2014-2015 öğretim yılında Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencisi 226 kişi dahil edilmiş, örneklem seçilmemiştir. Öğrencilerin %72.22'sine (n=163) ulaşılmıştır. Veri araştırmacılar tarafın-dan geliştirilen anket formu, Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği(BAÖ), Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ) ve Erişkin Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozuk-luğu Kendi Bildirim Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin %17.2'sinin (n=28) DEHB yönünden risk altında olduğu saptanmıştır. Katılımcıların BAÖ puanlarının ortancası 7'dir ve %6.7'sinde (n=11) ciddi anksiyete saptanmıştır. Katılımcıların BDÖ puanlarının ortancası 7'dir ve %15.3'ü (n=25) depresyon açısından risk altındadır. Elde ettiğimiz anksiyete, depresyon ve DEHB bulguları gözden geçirildiğinde tıp fakültesi öğrencilerine etkin psikolojik danışmanlık verilmesinin koruyucu ruh sağlığı açısından önemli olacağı düşünülmektedir.

ART therapy , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *MENTAL illness , *PSYCHIATRIC diagnosis , *GROUP psychotherapy - Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the themes that emerged after an art therapy and assessing the effectiveness of art therapy using psychological scales and dermatological evaluation indices before and after the therapy in individuals with psoriasis. The study included patients aged 18-65 with moderate psoriasis who had the disease for 5 or more years and were in need of systemic treatment. Those who had a concomitant physical disorder including another skin disease, an active joint disorder or a psychiatric diagnosis other than adjustment disorder were excluded from the study. A total of 15 sessions each lasting 150 minutes were held once a week. Various art techniques including music, painting and ceramics were practised to evaluate within the group patients' understanding of the illness and their self-awareness. The outcomes of the study were presented over three patients who attended the sessions regularly. The dermatological evaluations, patient feedbacks and observations of the psychotherapists have shown that art therapy can be an effective method in attenuating the symptoms of psoriasis and evoking awareness of repressed experiences or feelings. Depression is a common psychiatric disorder. There is still very little known about the neurobiological alterations that underlie the pathophysiology of depression. Recently, neuroplasticity hypothesis is added to monoamine hypothesis and neurotransmitter receptor hypothesis which are among the theories about the biological etiology of depression. Neuroplasticity can be defined as alterations in structural properties and functions of neurons and synapses depending on various internal and external stimuli. Neurotrophic factors are molecules important for development and protection of neurons. The neuron needs the neurotrophic factors synthesized by itself for survival, differentiation and neuroplasticity. Hippocampus is one of the brain regions with highest level of neuroplasticity. Brain imaging studies reveal that there is hippocampal volume reduction in depression. This reduction may be due to stress induced alterations in neurogenesis and neurotrophic factor expression in hippocampus. Pharmacologic and somatic antidepressant treatments increase adult hippocampal neurogenesis and neurotrophic factor expression and reverse effects of stress on hippocampal atrophy. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is the mostly studied neurotrophic factor in depression. There are data about decreased levels of BDNF in depression. Many studies suggest that BDNF is the "common final pathway" for actions of different antidepressants and chronic antidepressant treatment can enhance neurogenesis in adult hippocampus regulating plasticity and neurotrophin signalling pathways important in neuronal survival., Yaygın bir psikiyatrik bozukluk olan depresyon patofizyolojisinin altında yatan nörobiyolojik değişiklikler hakkında halen çok az şey bilinmektedir.

Many studies suggest that BDNF is the "common final pathway" for actions of different antidepressants and chronic antidepressant treatment can enhance neurogenesis in adult hippocampus regulating plasticity and neurotrophin signalling pathways important in neuronal survival. Objective: SASS is a new self-evaluation scale that assesses the level of social functioning in depressed patients for clinical research purposes. The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of SASS. Method: Data were obtained from 2 different sample groups that had no physical disturbances that could impair social functioning; healthy participants between the ages of 18 and 65 years (n = 66) and patients (n = 227) diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). Assessment tools used in the study were SASS, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, 17-item version, and Global Assessment of Functioning Scale. Results: In the reliability analysis of both groups combined and the MDD group Cronbach's alpha values for the internal consistency of the scale were 0.90 and 0.87, respectively. Item-total score correlations were between 0.22 and 0.66 for both groups combined, and between 0.21 and 0.59 for the MDD group. The correlation coefficient of the scale's test-retest reliability was 0.770 (P < 0.0001) and the SASS value rose from 29.4 ± 8.1 to 37.8 ± 8.1 following treatment of depression (P < 0.0001). Four factors with Eigen values > 1 were obtained from the factor analysis. Factor 1, with an Eigen value of 7.169 explained 35.8% of the total variance and represented the entire scale alone. Conclusions: The Turkish version of SASS, as the original scale, demonstrated adequate validity and reliability for the measurement of loss of social functioning in MDD patients and demonstrated that scores changed in accordance with treatment for depression. Objective: This study aims to compare the long term monitored schizophrenic patients to short term monitored patients with respect to sociodemographic, disorder and treatment characteristics and prognosis in outpatient practices. Method: In this study, files of schizophrenic patients referred first time to the outpatient psychiatry clinic of Medical School of Uludag University during the years 1998-2005 were examined. With a form, socio-demographic, disorder and treatment characteristics and prognosis of the patients were questioned. The recruited 274 patients were examined in two groups as long term monitored (>2 years) patients and short term monitored (<2 years) patients. Initially prescribed antipsychotics were divided into two groups as Atypical and Typical antipsychotics. Results: Sixty four of 131 long term monitored patients (48.9%) underwent treatment alteration at least once during the entire follow up period while only 24 of 143 short term monitored patients (16.8%) underwent treatment modification at least once (p<0.001). Antipsychotic was not changed however some of them received another psychotrophic agent in combination with the former one in 58% of the patients that was followed up for long term. Age of the patient (p<0.01), duration of antipsychotic use (p<0.001), frequency of attacks (p<0.05), and hospitalization (p<0.001) were greater in long term monitored patients. The use of anticholinerjic agents (p<0.05) and adjuvant antipsychotics (p<0.01) were much more common in long term monitored patients. Conclusions: Age of the patient, duration of antipsychotic usage and frequency of attacks and and hospitalization may influence the monitoring of the schizophrenic patients in the outpatient clinics. Introduction: Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a chronic disease which affects physical, psychological and social functioning of patients. In this study we aim to determine psychiatric comorbidity, some psychosocial factors and their relations with quality of life in patients with MG. Methods: A total of 52 patients underwent psychiatric examination and the following scales were applied: Socio-demographic data form, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Quality of Life (QOL) Scale Short Form 36 (SF-36), Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-Self report (PAIS-SR), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Results: Among 52 patients with MG, 36.5% (n=19) had no psychiatric diagnosis; 21.2% (n=11) had adjustment disorder; 19.2% (n=10) had depression and 23.1% (n=12) had anxiety disorder. Patients with a psychiatric diagnosis had lower scores in general health, vitality, social functioning, emotional role and mental health domains of SF-36. PAIS-SR scores, total MSPSS and friends scores were significantly higher in patients without a psychiatric diagnosis. Significant correlations of psychosocial factors with quality of life were determined. Conclusion: In MG patients, there is a high prevalence of psychopathology and it is associated with quality of life, perceived social support and psychosocial adjustment of the patients. Quality of life is reduced in both physical and mental aspects. Diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology in MG patients is crucial to decrease disease burden. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is an accumulation in studies which strive to reveal zonulin's potential role in mental disorders. To date, one cross-sectional recent study examined zonulin in patients with bipolar disorders (BDs); however, its role still remains vague due to high fluctuation. Our aims are to determine plasma zonulin levels in exacerbation and treatment response periods, and to examine the associations between zonulin and symptom severity in BD. 30 patients with BD type I and 29 healthy controls participated in the current study. Socio-demographic form, Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) were administered. Enzyme-linked immune assay (ELISA) method was used to measure the plasma zonulin levels of the participants. The groups did not differ in plasma zonulin-level comparisons. Plasma zonulin did not alter between the exacerbation and treatment response periods of the patients. Besides, no associations were found between plasma zonulin-level and disease symptoms. Intestinal barrier integrity was not found to be altered among patients with BD type I. The lack of alterations in plasma zonulin level between different periods may be attributable to several factors. One possible factor might be the ELISA method which can detect other proteins (e.g., properdin) rather than zonulin. Therefore, it might fail to indicate direct observation of intestinal permeability. However, future study designs with more accurate estimation of zonulin in a larger sample may provide a different perspective on intestinal permeability's possible role in BD etiology. Anahtar Kelimeler: Psikolojik Dayanıklılık, Şiddet, Benlik Saygısı, Depresyon A Research Based on Depression, Psychological Resilience and Self-respect of Women Who are Exposed to Violence Violence is when a person attacks another person using psychological or physical force and forces him to do what he does not want. Violence has a dimension that closely concerns both individuals and social order. For this reason, it is important to consider the causes and consequences of violence in every respect.Violence has been applied differently in all societies and periods, but despite legal regulations, it has not been prevented completely. One of the problems that cannot be prevented and grows more and more is violence against women. Due to the violence they are exposed to, women suffer important physical and mental injuries such as depression, suicide, alcohol and substance abuse, and even lose their lives. For this reason, violence against women has become an important problem that concerns the whole society in the long run. Thanks to the efforts of the women's movement in Turkey, struggle with violence against women has become a government policy known by everyone in the last twenty years. In this study, the psychological endurance and self-esteem levels of women who are faced with violence are investigated. In the research, 3 scales are used to measure the assessments of depression, psychological resilience and self-esteem levels of women against violence. 326 women participated in the study. As a result of the research, a strong negative relationship between Beck depression scale and Psychological Resilience Scale, a medium positive relationship between Self-esteem and Beck depression scale; A moderate negative relationship was observed between the Psychological Resilience Scale. In addition, while there was no statistically significant difference in terms of Psychological Resilience Scale between the groups whose age, education level, employment status, marital status, monthly income, city and place of residence; There is a statistically significant difference between the groups with different psychiatric diagnoses in terms of the Psychological Resilience Scale, and the average score of those who do not have a psychiatric diagnosis is higher, there is a statistically significant difference between the groups with different psychiatric disorders in terms of Psychological Resilience Scale and those who do not continue discomfort It is concluded that the average is larger. Keywords: Psychological Resilience, Violence, Self Esteem, Depression 100

Objective: This study aims to compare the effects of adding depot antipsychotic to oral antipsychotic regimen in schizophrenic patients with respect to sociodemographic, treatment characteristics and prognosis in outpatient practices. Method: In this study, charts of schizophrenic patients referred to the outpatient psychiatry clinic at the Medical School of Uludag University first time during 1998-2005 period were examined. The evaluation of medical records was concluded in April 2007, this enabled the assessment of the rate of discontinuation over a minimum of 18 months for all patients in the study. Socio-demographics, characteristics of the disorder, and treatment and prognosis of the patients were questioned. The recruited 274 patients were divided into two groups: The depot antipsychotic added and only oral antipsychotic regimen group. Compliance measures were "the time to all-cause medication discontinuation' and 'rate of discontinuation'. Results: Forty-eight (17.5%) of 274 patients were prescribed depot antipsychotics in addition to their ongoing oral oral antipsychotic regimen. Of the depot antipsychotic added patients 26 (54.1%) received zuclopenthixol deaconate, 18 (%37.5) received şupentixol, 3 (%6.25) received şufenazin deaconate (%6.25) and 1 (%2.1) received long-acting risperidone. There were no significant statistical differences between treatment groups in terms of sociodemographic variables, age of onset of the disorder, and duration of antipsychotic use prior to follow-up. The depot antipsychotic added patients had significantly higher number of relapses (p=0.031) and hospitalizations (p=0.031) in pre-depot antipsychotic period. However, there were no significant statistical differences during the study period between two groups in terms of rates of relapse and hospitalization. Time to all-cause medication discontinuation and rate of discontinuation did not differ between the groups. Also no significant differences were found between two groups in terms of anticholinergic, antidepressant, mood stabilizer and anxiolytics agent prescription rates. Conclusions: Adding depot antipsychotics to oral antipsychotic regimen did not improve treatment compliance in our study patients. However, rates of relapse and hospitalization which were significantly higher in depot and oral antipsychotic receiving patients did not differ between two groups during follow-up. Thus, we think the patients with higher rates of relapse and hospitalization may benefit from adding depot antipsychotics to oral antipsychotic regimens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hastaların yaşadığı ruhsal sorunların azaltılmasında eşlerin ve ailelerin de katıldığı psikoeğitim ve psikososyal destek programlarının faydalı olabileceği düşünülmektedir Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in developed and developing countries and it is the most common cause of cancer related deaths in women. In breast cancer patients, it has developed various emotional, psychological and behavioral problems in the disease process. Socıal support from patient's partners and their families during breast cancer treatment and diagnosis has greatly reduced psychiatric problems. In this examination, we aimed to investigate the effects of marital adjustment and perceived social support on depression, anxiety, self-esteem and sexuality in patients with breast cancer. 50 breast cancer patients who applied to Uludag University Medical Faculty Mental Health Department and Department of Radiation Oncology were included to the study. The Beck Depression Scale, the Beck Anxiety Scale, the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale-Woman Form, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale was assessed with the Couple Adjustment Scale. As the level of couple adjustment and social support of patients increased, it was observed that there was a statistically significant decrease in Beck Depression, Beck Anxiety and Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale scores. No statistically significant correlation was found between ..the levels of couple adjustment and social support with self-esteem. No significant relationship was found between sociodemographic characteristics and disease-related variables and scale scores. Social support from partnes and family members is an important factor in patients with breast cancer diagnoses and psychosocial disorders. It is thought that psychoeducation and psychosocial support programs that spouses and their families participate in reducing psychiatric problems experienced by patients can be beneficial. 53

Bu çalışmada, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencilerinde Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB), depresyon ve anksiyete belirtilerinin prevalansının saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmaya 2014-2015 öğretim yılında Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi son sınıf öğrencisi 226 kişi dahil edilmiş, örneklem seçilmemiştir. Öğrencilerin %72.22’sine (n=163) ulaşılmıştır. Veri araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen anket formu, Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği(BAÖ), Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ) ve Erişkin Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu Kendi Bildirim Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin %17.2’sinin (n=28) DEHB yönünden risk altında olduğu saptanmıştır. Katılımcıların BAÖ puanlarının ortancası 7’dir ve %6.7’sinde (n=11) ciddi anksiyete saptanmıştır. Katılımcıların BDÖ puanlarının ortancası 7’dir ve %15.3’ü (n=25) depresyon açısından risk altındadır. Elde ettiğimiz anksiyete, depresyon ve DEHB bulguları gözden geçirildiğinde tıp fakültesi öğrencilerine etkin psikolojik danışmanlık verilmesinin koruyucu ruh sağlığı açısından önemli olacağı düşünülmektedir. When we consider the results of ADHD and anxiety symptoms, we think it would be important to provide psychological consultation to medical students for preventive mental health.

Objective To report the outcomes of a retrospective database analysis to compare the effectiveness of atypical and typical antipsychotic drugs. Methods Medical records of patients admitted to the psychiatry outpatient clinic between January 1998 and October 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. Data obtained from patient records were noted on a special form assessing four aspects of the treatment history: socio-demographic features, disease characteristics, initial treatment at the time of admission, and course of treatment. Patient groups (typical/atypical and Risperidone/Haloperidol/Olanzapine) were compared for time to all-cause medication discontinuation and rate of discontinuation. Results There was no statistically significant difference in the duration of treatment between patients using atypical (n = 150) and typical (n = 124) antipsychotics. The duration of treatment was significantly longer in patients on Haloperidol (n = 91) compared with those on Risperidone (n = 63). Rates of discontinuation over 18 months were 59.3% for patients on atypical antipsychotics and 57.3% for those on typical antipsychotics, and 68.3% for patients on Risperidone, 51.6% for patients on Haloperidol and 54.3% for patients on Olanzapine. Conclusion Despite our hypothesis patients with chronic schizophrenia discontinued their atypical and typical antipsychotics, at a high rate with no significant difference indicating substantial limitations in the effectiveness of these drugs. AimsIn the present study, our aim was to investigate the oxidative-antioxidative systems in unmedicated first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients at the beginning and after short-term treatment. MethodsThis study consisted of 29 patients who experienced an FEP and 25 control subjects. In order to investigate the oxidative status, we determined plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, oxidizability of red blood cells, oxidation and oxidizability of apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins (apo B-basal MDA and apo B-MDA). In order to evaluate the antioxidative defense, we measured serum total antioxidative capacity, uric acid, albumin, total bilirubin and vitamin E levels and serum paraoxonase/arylesterase, whole blood glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and red blood cell superoxide dismutase activities before and after 6 weeks of treatment in patients with FEP. ResultsPlasma MDA and apo B-basal MDA levels and red blood cell superoxide dismutase activity were significantly higher and serum arylesterase and whole blood-GPx activities were lower in the FEP group than those of the healthy control group. There were not any significant changes in the oxidative and antioxidative system parameters (except increased vitamin E levels) after treatment. ConclusionsThe results of this study suggest that FEP is accompanied by oxidative stress. However, further studies are needed to clarify the role of oxidative stress in the physiopathologic mechanisms of FEP, so that oxidative and antioxidative system parameters can be used in the management of these patients. In accordance with psychiatric evaluation, for a better management, patients with FEP may require a multidisciplinary approach, including oxidative and antioxidative system parameters.

This is a case report of reboxetine induced erectile dysfunction, seminal emission and ejaculation during defecation and micturition. A 44 year old male who had been suffering from depression without any sexual dysfunction was put on venlafaxine XR treatment. Due to delayed ejaculation and occasional episodes of absence of ejaculation he was switched to reboxetine. At the second week of treatment he reported erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, and seminal emission and ejaculation during defecation and micturition occurred later at 8th week of treatment. After he was switched to sertraline 50 mg/day, his erectile dysfunction, premature and spontaneous ejaculation symptoms subsided in 2 weeks. Although reboxetine is reported to be free of sexual side effects, individual vulnerabilities to such unwanted effects should be considered, and sexual dysfunction should be assessed thoroughly during the treatment.

Antipsychotic medications are commonLy associated with adverse cutaneous reactions (ACRs) in approximately 5% of patients. Angio-oedema accompanying urticaria is one of the most serious ACRs. The 36-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with `Paranoid schizophrenia' 6 years ago, was commenced on ziprasidone 120 mg/day. On day 30 of the treatment, the patient presented urticarial papules and plaques all over the body and angio-oedema in the face. The patient was diagnosed as `Urticaria + Angio-oedema'. The development of ACRs after the initation of ziprasidone monotherapy, disappearance of lesions after the discontinuation of this antipsychotic, and positive intradermal skin test all suggests a possible causal relationship between ACRs and ziprasidone. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of urticaria and angio-oedema due to ziprasidone monotherapy. Ziprasidone is a valid and effective choice amongst antipsychotic medications, but this case calls for caution regarding ACRs at the time of prescribing.
