1. Enhancing Family Food Security Through Experiential Learning-Based Training In Organic Food Cultivation

Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of an experiential learning based training on organic food cultivation in increasing family food security, while also exploring the potential for behavior change and economic resilience. Employing a qualitative research design, the study used case study method. Participants engaged in an experiential learning program designed to impart skills and knowledge in organic food cultivation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation study, and analyzed using thematic analysis triangulation. The findings highlight the participants' evolving perceptions of the link between organic food cultivation and family food security within the unique urban environment. The training resulted in shifts in consumption patterns and dietary habits within families, fostering healthier choices. Furthermore, the cultivation of organic produce contributed to family finances, reducing expenditure on purchased produce. The study underscores the impact of experiential learning in fostering practical skills and behavior change in an urban community setting. The research contributes to the understanding of how experiential learning interventions can positively influence family food security within specific urban localities. This study suggests that integrating experiential learning approaches into training initiatives can empower urban families to cultivate their own organic produce.

Abstract

Evaluation of online-based learning has become a new paradigm in the Pandemic period. This certainly has an impact on all education sectoral levels, one of which is MAN KATINGAN. This paper aims to explore the online-based Arabic learning evaluation system conducted at MAN KATINGAN and the problems faced. Systematic evaluation of learning leads to raw input, instrumental input, curriculum, administration, process, and output. Analysis of the approach using descriptive qualitative through observation, direct interviews, and documentation. The results show that the online-based learning evaluation system is considered less effective and not optimal, especially in the entry behavior of students in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains of students. The teacher as an instrumental-only uses the WhatsApp application as the main means of the evaluation process. It is proven that the teacher only concludes from the answers to the questions that have been given. The teacher's obstacles in carrying out this evaluation include teacher skills, limited teacher and student communication, weak network, and limited quota

3. Geostatistical spatial projection of geophysical parameters for practical aquifer mapping

Abstract

Abstract Dense data acquisition for 3-D high-resolution aquifer mapping through heliborne transient electromagnetic (HTEM) survey is continually not possible due to various technical and administrative constraints. Consequently, we apply ground geophysical surveys at possibly closer spacing to collect the sub-surface information in the no-fly area, which provides only a regional aquifer picture. In the area near Patna of Northern India, an extent of 18% was covered under the HTEM survey, and the rest was surveyed by ground geophysical methods. Both data are integrated using the theory of regionalized variables. The parameters of multi-aquifers i.e., top of the first aquifer, top of the separating clay layer, top and the bottom of second aquifer, are estimated together with their respective resistivities. The estimations are made at an interval of 250 m, practically an appropriate distance at which dense data generation was carried out using the HTEM survey. The integrated approach generates the data in the no-fly area with the same spatial density as the flown area. With this, we achieved the goal of completing the 3-D aquifer mapping of the entire area with dense data at high spatial resolution. This is a unique finding to manage the handicapped situation in this HTEM surveys, and an aide to overcome such constraints with cost-effectiveness.

Abstract

Summary: Background: Dexamethasone was the first intervention proven to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 being treated in hospital. We aimed to evaluate the adoption of corticosteroids in the treatment of COVID-19 in the UK after the RECOVERY trial publication on June 16, 2020, and to identify discrepancies in care. Methods: We did an audit of clinical implementation of corticosteroids in a prospective, observational, cohort study in 237 UK acute care hospitals between March 16, 2020, and April 14, 2021, restricted to patients aged 18 years or older with proven or high likelihood of COVID-19, who received supplementary oxygen. The primary outcome was administration of dexamethasone, prednisolone, hydrocortisone, or methylprednisolone. This study is registered with ISRCTN, ISRCTN66726260. Findings: Between June 17, 2020, and April 14, 2021, 47 795 (75·2%) of 63 525 of patients on supplementary oxygen received corticosteroids, higher among patients requiring critical care than in those who received ward care (11 185 [86·6%] of 12 909 vs 36 415 [72·4%] of 50 278). Patients 50 years or older were significantly less likely to receive corticosteroids than those younger than 50 years (adjusted odds ratio 0·79 [95% CI 0·70–0·89], p=0·0001, for 70–79 years; 0·52 [0·46–0·58], p80 years), independent of patient demographics and illness severity. 84 (54·2%) of 155 pregnant women received corticosteroids. Rates of corticosteroid administration increased from 27·5% in the week before June 16, 2020, to 75–80% in January, 2021. Interpretation: Implementation of corticosteroids into clinical practice in the UK for patients with COVID-19 has been successful, but not universal. Patients older than 70 years, independent of illness severity, chronic neurological disease, and dementia, were less likely to receive corticosteroids than those who were younger, as were pregnant women. This could reflect appropriate clinical decision making, but the possibility of inequitable access to life-saving care should be considered. Abstract

Indonesia merupakan negara dengan tingkat biodiversitas yang tinggi akan keanekaragaman flora dan fauna, serta penyakitnya. Virus Flu Burung A (H5N1) yang terjadi di Indonesia merupakan kasus penyakit yang menarik untuk dikaji. Di dalamnya terdapat pelanggaran-pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh aktor internasional terhadap regulasi yang berkaitan dengan access and benefit sharing. Masalah semakin diperparah dengan ditemukannya sampel virus yang dikirim Indonesia ternyata berada di tangan Amerika Serikat melalui Laboratorium Los Alamos. Oleh karena itulah, adanya dugaan bahwa kasus Virus H5N1 yang terjadi di Indonesia merupakan salah satu bentuk hegemoni melalui regulasi yang tercipta, yaitu Convention on Biological Diversity dan Undang-Undang Nomor 13 Tahun 2016 tentang Paten. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan dianalisis dengan dua macam teori yakni hegemoni dan rezim internasional. Hasil penelitian ini akan menjelaskan bagaimana sebuah rezim internasional bisa mencerminkan hegemoni negara maju. Penelitian ini juga memaparkan beberapa penyebab bagaimana hegemoni bisa sampai menduduki Indonesia saat kasus Virus H5N1 terjadi di Indonesia.

Abstract

The function of the dark central floret (DCF) in the wild carrot, Daucus carota L. (Apiaceae), is uncertain. It has been suggested that it is a vestigial structure without a function, that it serves as a long or short distance signal to attract pollinators, or that it might function as a defense mechanism against herbivores. We experimentally assessed the role of the umbel size and height in the attractiveness of the DCF to insects in a coastal population of D. carota in western Turkey. We did not find differences in the number of insect visits between umbels with a DCF and umbels in which the DCF was removed when they were of average diameter (10 cm) and were placed either at the average inflorescence height (120 cm) or at 147 cm above ground. Similarly, we did not find differences in the number of insect visits before and after the removal of the DCF from an umbel or between umbels of small (5–7 cm) and large (11–13 cm) diameters. However, umbels of average diameter with DCF received more insect visits than those without it when we placed them at 81 cm above ground. These results suggest that umbel height, not diameter per se, influences the attractiveness of the DCF in the studied population. Thus, our study supports the hypothesis that DCF function depends on ecological context, reliant on both the visitor community and the predominant flower phenotype.

Abstract

When flowing through Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, India, the Musi River picks up (partially) treated and untreated sewage from the city. Downstream of the city, farmers use this water for the irrigation of rice and vegetables. Treatment of the river water before it is used for irrigation would address the resulting risks for health and the environment. To keep the costs and operational efforts low for the farmers, the use of constructed wetlands is viewed as a suitable option. Towards this end, the paper investigates the interests and perceptions of government stakeholders and famers on the treatment of wastewater for irrigation and further explores the consumer willingness to pay a higher price for cleaner produced vegetables. Full cost recovery from farmers and consumers cannot be expected, if mass scale treatment of irrigation water is implemented. Instead, both consumers and farmers would expect that the government supports treatment of irrigation water. Most stakeholders associated with the government weigh health and environment so high, that these criteria outweigh cost concerns. They also support the banning of irrigation with polluted water. However, fining farmers for using untreated river water would penalize them for pollution caused by others. Therefore public funding of irrigation water treatment is recommended.

Abstract

Basically, the inculcation of commendable behavior is limited to doing good to others, but more than that, researchers describe commendable behavior through spiritual extracurricular activities that take place in public high schools at SMAN 5 Karawang. Which aims to obtain an overview of program activities that have been running for a long time in schools and are character building programs for students. So that making character behavior and getting used to being able to practice their duties and responsibilities as students at school certainly leads to goodness and can be useful in the community in the environment where they are. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a case study approach, with data collection methods, by way of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results obtained in this study are that students at SMAN 5 Karawang have religious character and character, are polite, maintain the good name of the school, and obey the rules with a culture of inculcating commendable behavior in extracurricular spiritual activities at schools that are carried out every week and become a routine activity at the end of the lesson with religious discussion studies, and social services in commemoration of Islamic holidays such as the Prophet's birthday, Isra'Miraj, and compensation for orphans. That is what will be able to change the character and behavior of students for provision in society. So that he becomes a useful person for himself and others.

Abstract

Jeruk Kalamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) merupakan komoditi khas Provinsi Bengkulu yang sekarang banyak dimanfaatkan untuk berbagai pengobatan, makanan dan kosmetika. Minyak atsiri dari limbah Kulit Jeruk Kalamanansi memiliki kandungan senyawa kimia diantaranya yaitu phenyl ethyl alcohol, geraniol, eugenol, dan beberapa senyawa lainnya yang berpotensi memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Aktivitas antibakteri minyak atsiri kulit Jeruk Kalamansi dapat berpotensi sebagai antibakteri alami pada berbagai macam sediaan kosmetika salah satunya adalah deodorant spray. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan formula deodorant spray mengandung minyak atsiri kulit Jeruk Kalamansi yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri penyebab bau badan yaitu Staphylococcus epidermidis. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan formulasi deodorant spray dengan 3 formula F1, F2, F3 mengandung minyak atsiri 15%, 20% dan 25% serta F0 basis yang tidak mengandung minyak atsiri dan dibandingkan dengan F4 yaitu deodorant spray merek X yang beredar di pasaran. Pada setiap formula dilakukan uji aktivitas aktibakteri terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis pada cawan petri menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Daerah diameter hambat pada masing-masing formula dihitung dan dibandingkan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri memperlihatkan bahwa F1 memiliki aktivitas antibakteri paling kuat.

Abstract

Dirancangnya suatu sistem kas karyawan dan pemasaran pada PT Aryan Indonesia (Kidzania Indonesia) dengan tujuan untuk memproses pengolahan data kas karyawann dan pemasaran yang ada saat ini. Perangkat aplikasi yang telah dibuat dengan bahasa pemrograman Java NetBeans 8.0.2 dan penyimpanan data pada database MySQL dapat memberikan kelancaran dalam menginput dan penyimpanan data-data serta laporan-laporan yang diberikan kepada Pimpinan perusahaan. Dengan menggunakan metode pengembangan sistem yaitu Waterfall dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan tahapan-tahapan seperti rekayasa sistem, analisis, desain, coding, testing, dan maintenance. Diharapkan sistem informasi kas karyawan dan pemasaran ini dapat menciptakan aplikasi untuk pendataan data karyawan serta kas karyawan yang efektif dan efisien.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student’s difficulties in discussing the material for data management for class VI. Regarding Mathematics learning related to understanding the material, discussion, student difficulties and the teacher's efforts to overcome the student's difficulties. The research method used is a qualitative research method with data collection in the form of interviews, documentation, and observations. The results of this study reveal how the difficulties in data management are (mean, median, and mode). In grade VI students, it has been seen how many students already understand and which students have difficulty understanding the learning material. Students' difficulties can be influenced by lack of attention in learning (concentration), lack of student response when participating in teaching and learning activities (reaction) and the slow thinking power of students in understanding the material.

Abstract

A life-course approach to enhancing maternal and child health by improving parental health prior to conception is gaining international interest. Healthcare providers and researchers are seeking effective ways to increase women’s and men’s access to preconception care, especially through primary care. At the same time, preconception health includes conversations about pregnancy planning (or avoidance), which is a part of FP services. Unfortunately, “family planning” has the same meaning as “contraception” for many people at the moment, which is too simplistic because there are multiple aspects of preconception health and well-being. Expanding the understanding of preconception health as inclusive of FP and primary care has the potential to increase access to this important care while respecting sexual and reproductive rights, according to a couple’s reproductive plans. Respecting the sexual and reproductive rights of the population requires that FP programs be focused not only on contraception but, equally, on preconception care.

Background: Most studies of immunity to SARS-CoV-2 focus on circulating antibody, giving limited insights into mucosal defences that prevent viral replication and onward transmission. We studied nasal and plasma antibody responses one year after hospitalisation for COVID-19, including a period when SARS-CoV-2 vaccination was introduced. Methods: In this follow up study, plasma and nasosorption samples were prospectively collected from 446 adults hospitalised for COVID-19 between February 2020 and March 2021 via the ISARIC4C and PHOSP-COVID consortia. IgA and IgG responses to NP and S of ancestral SARS-CoV-2, Delta and Omicron (BA.1) variants were measured by electrochemiluminescence and compared with plasma neutralisation data. Findings: Strong and consistent nasal anti-NP and anti-S IgA responses were demonstrated, which remained elevated for nine months (p < 0.0001). Nasal and plasma anti-S IgG remained elevated for at least 12 months (p < 0.0001) with plasma neutralising titres that were raised against all variants compared to controls (p < 0.0001). Of 323 with complete data, 307 were vaccinated between 6 and 12 months; coinciding with rises in nasal and plasma IgA and IgG anti-S titres for all SARS-CoV-2 variants, although the change in nasal IgA was minimal (1.46-fold change after 10 months, p = 0.011) and the median remained below the positive threshold determined by pre-pandemic controls. Samples 12 months after admission showed no association between nasal IgA and plasma IgG anti-S responses (R = 0.05, p = 0.18), indicating that nasal IgA responses are distinct from those in plasma and minimally boosted by vaccination. Interpretation: The decline in nasal IgA responses 9 months after infection and minimal impact of subsequent vaccination may explain the lack of long-lasting nasal defence against reinfection and the limited effects of vaccination on transmission. 47. Assessment of Current and Future Groundwater Stress through Varied Scenario Projections in Urban and Rural Environment in Parts of Meerut District, Uttar Pradesh in Ganges Sub-basin

Abstract

Groundwater flow modeling was carried out to assess current and to project future groundwater scenarios in highly populated and water stressed region of Ganges sub-basin. Both the urban and rural densely populated areas of Ganges sub-basin was selected to capture the groundwater usage patterns in these watersheds. The groundwater system geologically consists of sand and clay layers. However, the layers are not stratified and has highly variable thicknesses and at places various layers disappears. Therefore, a 3D model was prepared so that variability in the vertical direction is also taken care. The study area modeled is divided into grids with 37 rows and 37 columns with 1 km size. The month of June 2016 was taken to perform the steady-state simulation as June has the lowest groundwater levels as well as the minimum stress on the aquifer. Subsequently the Transient state calibration was carried out from June 2016 to November 2018. A good match is obtained between calculated and observed heads in steady state conditions after a rigorous calibration with RMS error as 1.822 m. The sensitivity analysis of the model shows that the model is more sensitive to input parameters like recharge and hydraulic conductivity. The prediction scenarios were developed for a period of 10 years from 2018 to 2028 using the local conditions of groundwater utilization as well as projected rainfall. The rise in water level in rural areas is observed resulting from artificial sources like canal recharge and irrigation return flows from irrigated lands. The rise in groundwater level is in the range of 0.13–0.31 m/year in Scenario I and 0.11–0.47 m/year in Scenario II. The decline in groundwater levels is noticed in urban areas which are a result of heavy domestic and industrial groundwater withdrawal and absence of recharge areas. The decline in groundwater level is in the range of 0.12–0.31 m/year in Scenario I and 0.24–0.33 m/year in Scenario II.
