Abstract Background and Aim The coronavirus‐19 is an ongoing global pandemic resulting in millions of deaths worldwide. For a patient population at higher risk of infection, telemedicine is a promising means of providing safe and alternative care routes while minimizing their risk of exposure. This study gives insight into patients' experiences and satisfaction with telemedicine during this pandemic. Methods We conducted a cross‐sectional study on 297 patients (RR: 85%) at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), Qatar. Data was collected through electronic medical records of the eligibe patient population, and phone calls were made whereby the physician read a standard introductory script followed by a survey questionnaire. We focused on patients' experience with telemedicine services amid the pandemic. This was done using a six‐point Likert scoring system of seven questions that were scaled from 1 to 6. Results More than 80% of patients somewhat to strongly agreed that telemedicine met their healthcare needs, improved their confidence in their healthcare system, and were generally satisfied with the quality of care provided. Nearly all patients (90%) understood their physicians' recommendations over the phone. In addition, more than half of the patients (89%) felt they could freely communicate their concerns. Patients also showed an inclination towards face‐to‐face consultations at 68%; however, 90% were willing to participate in future teleconsultations. Conclusion Our study indicates an overall positive experience among patients towards the use of telemedicine. Telemedicine is a safe, futuristic approach toward patient care management and, thus, provides healthcare professionals a platform to implement further patient and physician education. Even though our data also showed that patients liked in‐person visits to some degree, this needs to be looked into more in future studies.

Background: A significant proportion of patients with a depressive disorder show resistance to pharmacological and psychotherapeutic antidepressant treatments. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is still one of the most effective treatment methods, especially in the acute phase. In everyday clinical practice, this usually accompanies pharmacological treatment. It has been shown that pharmacological treatment following acute ECT treatment reduces the rate of relapses. However, the effect of various antidepressants (ADs) and antipsychotics (APs) on the effect during the course of ECT has rarely been investigated., Methods: In this retrospective chart review study, the data of 104 depressive patients treated with ECT were examined. We analyzed the influence of concomitant administration of AD and AP or no psychotropic medication on the effect of ECT using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). We further analyzed the influence of the ADs Bupropion, Venlafaxine, and Sertraline or no AD and the influence of augmentation with Aripiprazole or Quetiapine or Olanzapine., Results/discussion: Psychotropic medication did not have an impact on antidepressant efficacy of ECT as measured with the MADRS scores. In addition, the comparison between the antidepressant or antipsychotic medications themselves did not show any significant difference. However, we found a significantly different seizure duration depending on the antidepressant substance that patients received during ECT ( p = .008). ECT treatment itself led to a highly significant reduction of 13.3 points in the MADRS ( p <.001)., Conclusion: Taken together, our study underlines that concomitant psychotropic medication while doing electroconvulsive therapy does not bare the risk of prolonged seizure duration or does it reduce the effectiveness of ECT. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to examine the effect of treatment with antidepressants in combination with antipsychotics while doing ECT. In light of our results, this combination therapy is safe and effective. Background: Providing adequate living conditions for forcibly displaced people represents a significant challenge for host countries such as Germany. This study explores refugee mental health's reciprocal, dynamic relationship with post-migration living conditions and social support., Methods: The study sample included 325 Arabic- or Farsi-speaking asylum seekers and refugees residing in Germany since 2014 and seeking mental health treatment. Associations between reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress and depression and the subjective quality of living conditions and perceived social support were analyzed using a two-level approach including multiple linear regression and network analyses., Results: Post-migration quality of living conditions and perceived social support were significantly associated with negative mental health outcomes on both levels. In the network, both post-migration factors were negatively connected with overlapping symptoms of psychiatric disorders, representing potential target symptoms for psychological treatment., Conclusion: Post-migration quality of living conditions and social support are important factors for refugee mental health and should be targeted by various actors fostering mental well-being and integration., (© 2023. Background: Arabic represents one of the most frequently spoken languages worldwide, especially among refugee populations. There is a pressing need for specialized diagnostic tools corresponding to the DSM-5 criteria in Modern Standard Arabic, which can be administered on Arabic speakers in the West and Arab region alike., Objectives: To develop and validate the culturally-adapted version of the most recent M.I.N.I. 7.0.2 into Modern Standard Arabic-a form of Arabic commonly used across all Arab countries., Methods: 102 participants were recruited between April 2019 to March 2020 at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin in Berlin. Symptoms were assessed with Arabic versions of rater-based and self-rated measures, including Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and Harvard Trauma Questionnaire (HTQ). Arabic-speaking psychiatrists saw participants for diagnostic assessment., Results: Cohen's kappa (κ) values were moderate for major depression, and slight for post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as generalized anxiety disorder. Moreover, kappa values indicated moderate agreement between M.I.N.I.-AR and PHQ-9 for depression, as well as HTQ for post-traumatic stress disorder, respectively., Conclusion: The translated and culturally adapted version of the M.I.N.I. addresses an existing need for a reliable, efficient, and effective comprehensive diagnostic tool using the most recent DSM-5 criteria in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Based on the obtained results, only a validation of the depression module (Module A) of the M.I.N.I-AR was possible. Study outcomes also show evidence for the validation of Module H covering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Potential valuable contributions can be extended to this translation and validation.
