Posture-induced compressive peroneal neuropathy usually occurs after maintaining certain positions, such as prolonged squatting or habitual leg crossing. Peroneal neuropathy mainly presents with unilateral foot drop and variable sensory deficit. In this article, a case series of unilateral/bilateral peroneal nerve palsy secondary to prolonged squatting during peanut harvesting was reported. The four patients presented were aged between 12 and 21 years. All patients showed signs of peroneal nerve palsy in the electrophysiological examination. The present article also reviewed the clinical evaluation, rehabilitation approaches, and prognosis of posture-induced peroneal neuropathy in light of the current literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The effect of Hypericum perforatum (HP), which is a medicinal plant, on sciatic nerve injury-induced peripheral neuropathy has been less studied so far. The current experimental study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective and antinociceptive effects of Hypericum perforatum (HP) extract on sciatic nerve injury-induced peripheral neuropathy in mice. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 18 Balb/C albino mice were allocated equally into three groups. The first group was determined as controls, and no procedure was performed on these mice. Neuropathy was generated by the partial sciatic nerve ligation method on mice allocated to the second and third groups. Mice in the third group received HP extract at a dose of 70 mg/kg per day for fourteen days. Nociception (cold allodynia) was evaluated using the cold plate test at the end of the experimental period. Tumor necrosis factor -alpha (TNF-a) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in plasma; inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), phospholipase A2, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-αB), caspase-3, Bcl-2, and Bax levels in sciatic nerve were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test. Results: Cold plate latencies (sec) of the neuropathy + HP, neuropathy, and control groups were 8.33 ± 0.67, 5.17 ± 0.60, and 13 ± 0.73, respectively. Plasma TNF-a, IL-6 levels, and sciatic nerve iNOS, COX-2, NF-αB, caspase-3, and Bax levels were significantly decreased after HP supplementation. Bcl-2 levels of the neuropathy + HP, neuropathy, and control groups were 9.92 ± 0.71, 5.37 ± 0.53, and 13.65 ± 0.68, respectively. Conclusion: HP has improved oxidative, inflammatory, and apoptotic responses, as well as cytokine levels in plasma and sciatic nerves of mice. It has been concluded that HP provided neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antinociceptive effects in experimental mice with sciatic nerve injury models, which is suggested to guide future studies on neuropathic pain management. Various physiological and anatomical changes occur in women during pregnancy. In addition, biomechanical and vascular changes become prominent as pregnancy progresses. The musculoskeletal system is one of the systems most affected by these changes. Low back pain is the leading cause of pregnancy-related musculoskeletal problems, followed by back pain, hand-wrist pain and hip pain. Most of these pregnancy-related problems resolve in months after pregnancy. However, it causes serious pain and disability in some pregnant women. Therefore, early recognition of musculoskeletal problems during pregnancy, taking protective precautions and planning the treatment individually are essential. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate nailfold capillaroscopic pattern in patents with fibromyalgia and to assess the relation of capillaroscopic parameters with clinical variables and disease-related measures. Patients and methods: This cross-sectional, case-control study included 60 participants (4 males, 56 females; mean age: 44.0±8.2 years; range, 26 to 64 years) between August 2019 and November 2019. All participants were divided into two groups as the primary fibromyalgia group (n=30) who met the 2016 modified American College of Rheumatology Diagnostic Criteria for Fibromyalgia and the control group (n=30) consisting of age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. Nailfold capillaroscopy was performed by a digital microscope under a magnification of 200x. Capillary density, capillary loop diameter, number of dilated, giant and neoangiogenic capillaries, capillary shape, number of avascular areas, micro-aneurysms and micro-hemorrhages were evaluated by an assessor who was blind to the group allocation. In the fibromyalgia group, Widespread Pain Index, Symptom Severity Scale scores, and Fibromyalgia Severity scores were calculated. Health status and presence of benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) were evaluated using the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) and revised Brighton criteria, respectively. Results: Of the capillaroscopic parameters, the mean capillary loop diameter, number of micro-aneurysms, avascular areas, and neoangiogenic capillaries were significantly higher in the patient group compared to the controls (p<0.001, p=0.016, p=0.038, and p=0.04, respectively). Nailfold capillaroscopic findings did not significantly differ between the patients with (n=16) and without concomitant BJHS (n=14). Of the disease-related measures, only FIQ score showed a weak correlation with the number of dilated capillaries (p=0.324). Conclusion: Patients with fibromyalgia have distinct capillaroscopic patterns than healthy population. Capillaroscopic features, in general, are not related to clinical variables and disease-related measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
