ObjectivesMethodsResultsConclusionThe aim of the study was to investigate fear of falling, kinesiophobia, and sensory processing in older adults with hypertension and normotension.Older adults, 62 with hypertension and 62 with normotension, aged 65–84 years were included in the study. The assessment of fear of falling was conducted using the Tinetti Falls Efficacy Scale, kinesiophobia was evaluated with the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale, and sensory processing skills were analyzed with the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile.Significant differences were found between the groups in terms of vestibular processing, visual processing and activity level, fear of falling and kinesiophobia (p < .05). No significant differences were found between the groups with respect to taste/smell, tactile, and auditory processing skills. The findings revealed that older adults with hypertension exhibited diminished vestibular and visual processing abilities, reduced activity levels, and heightened concerns about falling and a tendency to experience kinesiophobia. Fear of falling and kinesiophobia were found to increase with decreasing vestibular processing skills and activity levels in both groups (p < .05). Regression analysis revealed that age, kinesiophobia, vestibular processing, and activity levels were significant determinants of fear of falling (p < .05).It is recommended that older adults with hypertension be assessed in terms of sensory, functional, and mental health, with the objective of planning appropriate intervention approaches. Server Kamil became one of the most prominent doctors during the period of the Ottoman Empirey. Server Kamil, who specialized in bacteriology and sanitation, made a name for himself primarily through his fight in the memories against epidemic diseases on the Caucasus front during World War I. He was sent to the Caucasus front as chief physician of Erzurum Red Crescent (Hilâl-i Ahmer) Hospital, and made great efforts to prevent the disease typhus—which was a major problem in the region—as soon as he reached the front line. He worked long and hard to develop a vaccine to prevent typhus, which affects thousands of soldiers and civilians. He also played a pioneering role in establishing important institutions such as the Sivas Smallpox Vaccine Laboratory and the Rabies Treatment Centre, which accomplished significant work and achieved great success both during the World War I and in the period that followed. This article attempts to clarify the activities of Server Kamil on Caucasus front during World War I based on the documents of the Turkish Red Crescent Archive, the reports of the Red Crescent Society. Lake Van, the world's largest alkaline lake, hosts some of the largest microbialite towers worldwide, which are considered as modern analogues of ancient stromatolites. This study investigates the links between microbialite evolution, geology, climate and hydrology, and the role of biotic and abiotic processes in microbialite growth and morphology. For these objectives, the northern shelf of Lake Van was surveyed by sub‐bottom seismic profiling and diving, and two 9 m and 15 m high microbialite chimneys were sampled at 25 m water depth. Samples were analysed for stable oxygen and carbon isotopes, X‐ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and U/Th age dating. Lake Van microbialites precipitate wherever focused Ca‐rich groundwater flows onto the lake floor to mix with alkaline lake water. Variable columnar, conical and branching morphologies of the microbialites indicate various processes of formation by groundwater channelling within the chimneys. Collectively, our data suggest that the microbialite chimneys have formed within the last millennium, most likely starting during the warm and humid Medieval Climate Anomaly (caad 800–1300), when lake level rose approximately to the present level due to enhanced Inputs of riverine Ca‐rich freshwater and groundwater. Our new scanning electron microscopy observations indicate that the internal structure of the microbialites below the outer cyanobacteria‐covered crust is constructed by calcified filaments, globular aggregates and nanocrystals of algal, cyanobacterial and heterobacterial origins and inorganically precipitated prismatic calcite crystals. These textural features, together with dive observations, clearly demonstrate the important role of inorganic carbonate precipitation at sites of groundwater discharge, followed by cyanobacteria and algal mucilage deposition and microbially meditated calcification in the photic zone in the rapid growth of the microbialite chimneys. Considering the close similarities of some textures with those of ancient stromatolites and meteorites, the results of this study provide new insights into the environmental conditions associated with stromatolite formation and extra‐terrestrial life evolution. Objective: To examine the relationship between carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and sleep quality in different trimesters of pregnancy and to investigate whether there is a difference between trimesters in terms of sleep quality and CTS symptoms. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted between August 2021 and June 2022 at gynecology and obstetrics polyclinic. The sample of the study consisted of voluntary pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 45 years. Demographic data of pregnant women were evaluated with personal information form, sleep quality with Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), CTS symptoms with Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire (BCTQ), and grip strength with hand dynamometer. Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests were used in the analyses. Results: The mean age of 219 pregnant women included in our study was 29.00±4.50 years, and the mean gestational age was 22.70±11.18 weeks. According to PSQI, 80.5% (n=177) of the pregnant women had poor sleep quality (≥5 points). When the trimesters were compared in terms of the evaluated parameters, a significant difference was found between the 1st and 2nd trimesters and the 2nd and 3rd trimesters among the subjective sleep quality sub-dimensions of PSQI (p=0.002). A positive correlation was found between BCTQ-Symptom and PSQI subjective sleep quality and PSQI daytime dysfunction, and a negative relationship was found between dominant handgrip strength (p<0.05). In addition, a positive correlation was found between the BCTQ-Function score and PSQI subjective sleep quality, sleep duration, and total scores, and a negative relationship was found between dominant hand grip strength (p<0.001). Conclusion: The sleep quality of pregnant women is low, and the presence of CTS has been confirmed as one of the reasons that reduce sleep quality. CTS symptoms during pregnancy negatively affect the sleep quality of pregnant women in the 1st and 3rd trimesters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Elasmobranchs, encompassing an array of sharks and rays, confront a threat of extinction on a global scale. The Sea of Marmara (SoM) stands out as a critical refuge for these endangered species.This study harnesses data derived from comprehensive trawl surveys, representing the first area‐based evaluation of the elasmobranchs inhabiting the SoM. Sampling protocols were carried out at 10 separate stations along the 980‐km coastline of the SoM, each bounded by different ecological characteristics and anthropogenic influences.A total of eight shark species and six ray species were caught in the towed area of the entire the SoM. Notably, Scyliorhinus canicula and near‐threatened Raja clavata constitute more than 50% of the total abundance. Additionally, rare, and critically endangered species, including the Oxynotus centrina, Squatina squatina, Dipturus batis, and Myliobatis aquila, were documented, expanding our knowledge of their presence in the region.Spatial distribution heterogeneity was pronounced within species.Size distributions were species‐specific, and the presence of both juvenile and adult individuals suggested successful reproduction and growth.Records expand the known size range in the SoM for six shark and three ray species. It also provides first‐size information based on the total length of the S. stellaris and D. batis.Additionally, the urgent need for field‐based conservation efforts is highlighted, citing a previously unidentified important sensitive areas located in the southern part of the SoM. Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the osteoporosis knowledge, calcium intake, and physical activity level of the students of physical therapy and rehabilitation and nutrition and dietetics departments, which are among the occupational groups that play an important role in the prevention and management of osteoporosis. Methods: This study was carried out with second-, third-, and fourth-grade female students of physical therapy and rehabilitation and nutrition and dietetics departments. Osteoporosis knowledge was evaluated using Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, physical activity level was evaluated using the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire, and daily calcium intake was evaluated using the Food Consumption Frequency Form. Results: The mean age of 209 female participants was 21.50±1.36 years. There was no significant difference between the students of the two departments in terms of osteoporosis knowledge, physical activity level, and calcium intake (p>0.05). There was no significant difference among students of different grades in terms of evaluated parameters (p>0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: The osteoporosis knowledge, physical activity level, and calcium intake of the students studying in two different departments involved in osteoporosis management and at different grade levels were similar. Although osteoporosis knowledge of the students of both departments was high, their physical activity level and daily calcium intake were low. It is important for these students, who will be practitioners of professional groups that play a primary role in health promotion, to reflect their knowledge on their own attitudes and habits and to be the right role models for their clients and the development of social health. Background: Rosacea may contribute to the development of cardiovascular (CV) diseases by causing endothelial dysfunction (ED), which is known to be the initial step of atherosclerosis, due to its inflammatory features. Objective: This study aimed to assess ED in rosacea patients using the flow‐mediated dilatation (=dilation) (FMD) method. Methods: Seventy‐three rosacea patients and 73 age, gender‐matched healthy volunteers were enrolled. Individuals with cardiac risk factors, pregnant, and lactating women were excluded. Demographic, clinical data and anthropometric measurements were recorded. FMD measurement was performed ultrasonographically by a cardiologist. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures (BP) were measured and hemogram, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C‐Reactive Protein (CRP), total cholesterol, triglyceride, low‐density lipoprotein (LDL), high‐density lipoprotein (HDL), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), and fasting blood glucose values were assessed. Results: The FMD value was statistically lower in rosacea patients compared with healthy controls (p = 0.000). Metabolic syndrome, systolic and diastolic BPs, and plasma NLR were higher in the rosacea group (p = 0.009, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, respectively). According to the multivariate linear regression analysis, rosacea type significantly predicted FMD. Conclusions: Rosacea is not only a disease limited to the skin, but it may also have systemic involvement. A significant difference was found between FMD values measured in between the case and control groups, suggesting rosacea may have an atherogenic effect. Possible cardiac risks should be considered in rosacea patients, and further evaluation could be warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
