The Alpujarride Complex, situated in middle position in the tectonic complexes of the Betic-Rif Internal Zone, is divided into many units distributed in three superposed groups. Nevertheless, the significance and even the existence of some of these units, is still under discussion. In this sense, the present article attempts to clarify some of these aspects, which are essential for an understanding of this Internal Zone. Among others, the following points are examined: a) the existence of transitional units between the Malaguide and Alpujarride complexes; b) the position of the Ronda peridotites under the Alpujarride and not thrusting it; c) the large shears and bevels that many tectonic units present, to the point of disappearing in some cases; d) the progressive lower metamorphic grade of its units towards the NE; and e) the overlap between the different groups of Alpujarride units, a process that is probably not complete. The discussion of these and other aspects provides a more complete vision of the structure and meaning of the complex., El Complejo Alpujárride, situado en una posición media en los complejos tectónicos de la Zona Interna Bético- Rifeña, se divide en muchas unidades distribuidas en tres grupos superpuestos. Sin embargo, el significado e, incluso, la existencia de algunas de estas unidades es discutido. Este es el tema del presente artículo, en un intento de aclarar aspectos que son importantes para el conocimiento de la Zona Interna. Destacan entre otros: a) la existencia de unidades de carácter transicional entre los complejos Maláguide y Alpujárride, b) la posición de las peridotitas de Ronda bajo el Alpujárride y no cabalgándolo, c) las grandes cizallas y biselamientos que presentan muchas unidades tectónicas, hasta el punto de desaparecer en algunos casos, d) el progresivo menor grado metamórfico de sus unidades hacia el NE, y e) que probablemente la superposición entre de los diferentes grupos de unidades alpujárrides no sea completa. La discusión de estos y otros aspectos permite mostrar una visión más completa de la estructura y significado del complejo.

In the NW of Sierra Tejeda (Spain) it is possible differentiate only two Alpujarride tectonic units, i.e. the Almijara and, in an upper position, the Robledal unit, simplifying previous divisions. Hydrogeological data support this interpretation since a hydraulic connection exists between the two areas occupied by marbles (Sierra Tejeda and Rodaderos sectors). Both areas has been previously considered as belonging to two different tectonic units not directly connected. In the Robledal unit, gneisses in the lower part of the lithologic sequence correlate with other units of the Guajares-Jubrique/Los Reales group (upper group of Alpujarride units). Extensional deformations are superposed over these tectonic units, but, according to field observations, they have not the enormous importance attributed to them in previous models, as they do not differentiate new tectonic units, at least in this area. New E-W faults are drawn along the northern edge of Sierra Tejeda, contributing to the westward drift of the Betic Internal Zone., [ES] Al NO de Sierra Tejeda solo se pueden diferenciar dos unidades tectónicas alpujárrides, la de Almijara y, sobre ella, la de Robledal, simplificando divisiones previas. Datos hidrogeológicos avalan esta interpretación ya que apuntan a la posible conexión hidráulica entre dos áreas ocupadas por mármoles (sectores de Tejeda y Rodaderos) que previamente han sido consideradas como unidades tectónicas diferentes lo que lo hace improbable. En la unidad Robledal la presencia de gneises en la parte inferior de la secuencia litológica permite su correlación con otras unidades del grupo Guájares-Jubrique/ Los Reales (grupo superior de unidades del Complejo Alpujárride). Deformaciones extensionales se superponen al cabalgamiento de unidades, pero a las que no damos la enorme importancia atribuida en previos modelos, pues no permiten, al menos en esta área, la diferenciación de nuevas unidades tectónicas. Several major N80ºE faults occur in the Bullas-Mula area (SE Spain). These faults and the numerous thrust slices of the Sierra de Ricote can be related to the movements of the Crevillente (or Cadiz-Alicante) fault system, which causes the westward displacement of the Betic Internal Zone and part of the External Zone. These faults moved with dextral strike-slip from Late Burdigalian to Early Tortonian. From this time on, the σ1 position changed from a WNW-ESE direction to approximately N-S, giving rise to movements with a new reverse character. The focal mechanisms of the 1999 Mula earthquakes indicate a N80ºE nodal plane, and their pressure axes also coincide with the σ1 direction existing from the Late Miocene and deduced from mesotectonic analysis at many points of the region. There is also good coincidence between their epicentral position and the fault traces. The Bullas earthquakes that occurred in 2002 are not directly related to the Crevillente faults, although their stress-pressure axes coincide with the σ1 direction reported there.

The Nevado-Filábride metamorphic complex is the lowermost part of the Internal zone of the Betic Cordillera (Spain). The complex exhibits a succession of metasediments, orthogneisses and metabasites. Debate still surrounds the age of the rocks, the petrochronological evolution of the complex, and several internal divisions proposed in the literature. This Ph.D. Thesis presents a study concerning the Nevado-Filábride complex based on different methodological approaches, with the objective to determine the validity of the previously proposed divisions. In the first part of the study, new cartography is proposed for key areas of the complex. The cartography is supported by petrological and mineralogical descriptions of the different schist types existing in the complex. Three lithological formations were identified: the Dark schists Fm in the lower part, the Tahal Fm, and the overlying Schists and marbles Fm. The contact between these formations is stratigraphic, characterized by transitional lithological variations., [ES] El complejo metamórfico Nevado-Filábride constituye la parte inferior de la Zona Interna de la Cordillera Bética (España). El complejo presenta una sucesión de metasedimentos, ortogneises y metabasitas. Existe un debate en torno a la edad de las rocas, la evolución petrocronológica del complejo y su división interna. En esta Tesis Doctoral se presenta un estudio sobre el complejo Nevado-Filábride basado en diferentes aproximaciones metodológicas, con el objetivo de determinar la validez de las divisiones previamente propuestas. En la primera parte de la tesis se propone una nueva cartografía de áreas clave del complejo. La cartografía está apoyada por descripciones petrológicas y mineralógicas de los diferentes tipos de esquistos existentes en el complejo. Tres formaciones litológicas se han identificado, de abajo arriba: la Formación de Esquistos oscuros, la Formación de Tahal y la Formación de Esquistos y Mármoles.
