Biofouling is a significant problem that affects renewable energy marine structures (REMS), such as wind turbines and those designed for wave or tidal energy exploitation. Marine organisms, including algae, barnacles, and mollusks, attach themselves to the surface of these structures, which can lead to reduced efficiency and increased maintenance costs. In addition, biofouling can also cause corrosion, which can compromise the structural integrity of the offshore platforms. To combat this problem, several methods have been developed, including anti-fouling coatings, physical methods, and biological methods. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, and the most effective solution often depends on the specific type of fouling and the location of the offshore structure. Effective biofouling prevention is essential for the safe and efficient operation of offshore structures and the protection of marine ecosystems. To prevent the spread of invasive species, an innovative ceramic coating has been designed and tested in accordance with ASTM-D3623 procedure. The investigation results revealed that, after four years of experimentation in a real environment, the biofouling growth observed in the splash zone of the antifouling paint was 129.76% higher than that of the titanium-based ceramic coating and it is expected that this difference will continue to grow over time. This collaborative European Academy of Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) study aimed to provide an overview of rhinoplasty practices, informing clinician and patient decision making. It is a multicenter cross-sectional study, reported as per Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology guidelines. All EAFPS members were contacted via email, inviting them to participate. Members expressing an interest to participate were asked to anonymously complete a questionnaire, related to rhinoplasties that they performed as first/supervising surgeon over a period from January 1, 2019 to January 1, 2022. A descriptive analysis was performed. One hundred and fifteen surgeons submitted data on 41,259 rhinoplasties from 33 countries. Eighty percent of rhinoplasties were primary, and 20% were secondary. Thirty five percent of primary rhinoplasties were closed and 65% were open. Thirty one percent of primary rhinoplasties were for cosmetic indications, 11% functional and 58% were for both. Of the 8147 secondary rhinoplasties, 44% were closed and 56% were open. Thirty percent were for cosmetic indications, 11% functional, and 59% for both cosmetic and functional. Ninety-one percent of rhinoplasties were performed by ENT surgeons, 3% by plastic surgeons, 5% by maxillofacial surgeons, and 1% were dual (maxillofacial and ENT) trained. One-thousand seven-hundred thirty primary rhinoplasties underwent revision surgery (5%) and 102 secondary rhinoplasties underwent revision surgery (1%). The most commonly reported indications for revision surgery were dorsal asymmetry, nasal blockage, and dissatisfaction with nasal tip. Three percent of rhinoplasties underwent preoperative psychological assessment. To the authors knowledge, this is the largest published rhinoplasty dataset. This study provides an overview of rhinoplasty practices that can be used for benchmarking and to guide clinician and patient decision making. Psychological assessment of prerhinoplasty appears insufficient with higher levels recommended to minimize unsuccessful outcomes. This study showcases the power of collaborative research and may serve as a catalyst for future collaborative facial plastic surgery research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We evaluated and compared the impact on quality of life (QoL) related to foot health and general health between males and females with PF. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, patients with PF were recruited from a podiatry clinic. Physical examination, sociodemographic data, and the self-reported Foot Health Status Questionnaire (FHSQ) were recorded. The FHSQ has three sections and provides two composite scores from 0 to 100. Higher scores (close to 100) reflect better QoL related to foot health and health in general; lower scores (close to 0) denote a worse QoL related to these health items. Results: One hundred patients (49 males [42.38 ± 14.065 years old] and 51 females [43.90 ± 14.305 years old]) were recruited. Section one of the FHSQ evaluates four foot domains, and significant differences (P0.05). Section two assesses four domains of general wellbeing, and significant differences (P

- Abstract
The High Energy X-ray Probe (HEX-P) is a NASA probe-class mission concept that will combine high spatial resolution X-ray imaging (<10 arcsec FWHM) and broad spectral coverage (0.1−150 keV) with an effective area far superior to current facilities (including XMM-Newton and NuSTAR) to enable revolutionary new insights into a variety of important astrophysical problems. Optimized nanometer-thin Ni-based multilayer coatings enable high performance of focusing X-ray telescopes to energies up to 150 keV and beyond, though current fabricated Ni-based coatings contain high interfacial roughness which will affect the predicted performance of the telescope. As part of the thin film coating development for the High Energy X-ray Probe, we report on the current development of reducing the coating roughness in periodic NiV/Si multilayer coatings. The multilayers are fabricated using the direct current magnetron sputtering coating facility at DTU Space, using different types of sputtering collimators and different reactive sputtering gas concentrations, optimized for the production of low interfacial roughness. The multilayers are characterized using X-ray reflectometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. More information on HEX-P, including the full team list, is available at hexp.org.

- Abstract

Facial expression facilitates the understanding of the individual's identity, being essential for communication and interaction in modern society. When this expression is limited, in addition to the functional consequences of the organism, it also has psychological and social consequences. The ARTHUR project developed a virtual surgery solution, applied to the bone and dental structure, capable of predicting the real impact on the patient's face mask. The solution is based on cloud and allows the clinical body to perform the virtual surgical planning, using cutting guides and plates or surgical guide lines, in a parameterized anatomical model of the head achieved through the fusion of three exams: TAC (CBCT), Intraoral Scan and 3D Stereo Photogrammetry. Above all, it is intended that, based on this planning and thanks to the parameterized anatomical model, it is possible to realistically forecast and represent the impact of the surgical intervention on the patient's face mask. This tool acts in different situations that require facial reconstruction, however this project focuses specifically on two types of use cases: bone congenital disfigurement and acquired disfiguration such as oral cancer with bone attainment. It is intended to be an intuitive and user friendly tool, which allows its use by less specialized technicians who can demonstrate the final results directly to the patient in the office. Able to predict visual impact with high realism and degree trust, will enable patients to participate more actively in the decision-making process therapy. H2020 - Copromoção published

The ARTHUR project consists of a platform that allows the virtual performance of maxillofacial surgeries, offering, in a photorealistic concept, the possibility for the patient to have an idea of the surgical changes before they are performed on their face. For this, the system brings together several image formats, dicoms and objs that, after loading, will generate the bone volume, soft tissues and hard tissues. The system also incorporates the patient's stereophotogrammetry, in addition to their data and clinical history. After loading and inserting data, the clinician can virtually perform the surgical operation and present the final result to the patient, generating a new facial surface that contemplates the changes made in the bone and tissues of the maxillary area. This tool acts in different situations that require facial reconstruction, however this project focuses specifically on two types of use cases: bone congenital disfigurement and acquired disfiguration such as oral cancer with bone attainment. Being developed a cloud based solution, with mobile support, the tool aims to reduce the decision time window of patient. Because the current simulations are not realistic or, if realistic, need time due to the need of building plaster models, patient rates on decision, rely on a long time window (1,2 months), because they don’t identify themselves with the presented surgical outcome. On the other hand, this planning was performed time based on average estimated values of the position of the maxilla and mandible. The team was based on averages of the facial measurements of the population, without specifying racial variability, so the proposed solution was not adjusted to the real individual physiognomic needs. in publication

Biofouling ,Heat exchanger ,Predictive maintenance ,Seawater - Abstract
One of the biggest problems in equipment that uses water as a coolant is biofouling. In the design and operation of water-cooled heat exchangers, the biological coefficient must be considered, which adheres to the inside of the tubes, redcucing the efficiency of the equipment. For this reason, it is necessary to apply an appropriate antifouling treatment for the design of each heat exchanger. In this work, the effectiveness of electromagnetic field (EMF) to reduce the growth of biofouling adhering to the tubes of a seawater cooled heat exchanger will be evaluated. In a first phase the interior of the tubes of a seawater cooled heat exchanger was monitored using Cusum control charts until biofouling growth was established. In one of the tubes, the EMF treatment was applied continuously in order to maintain it in the initial condition. The control chart showed that the EMF treatment increased the useful life compared to the control tube without treatment.

The first evidence for X(3872) production in relativistic heavy ion collisions is reported. The X(3872) production is studied in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair, using the decay chain X(3872) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-) -> mu(+) mu(-) pi(+)pi(-). The data were recorded with the CMS detector in 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb(-1). The measurement is performed in the rapidity and transverse momentum ranges vertical bar y vertical bar < 1.6 and 15 < p(T) < 50 GeV/c. The significance of the inclusive X(3872) signal is 4.2 standard deviations. The prompt X(3872) to psi 2S yield ratio is found to be rho(Pb-Pb) = 1.08 +/- 0.49(stat) +/- 0.52(syst), to be compared with typical values of 0.1 for pp collisions. This result provides a unique experimental input to theoretical models of the X(3872) production mechanism, and of the nature of this exotic state.
