The article seeks to understand the experiences of black women between 1890 and 1899 in Recife. For that, we will use as sources to locate them the notes of the police columns of the newspaper Diário de Pernambuco. This material will allow an approximation to the experiences of these women, based on a fragmented collection of information due to the characteristics of the source, such as the adoption of the Conceição name or surname to escape the police. From the methodological point of view we chose to elaborate tables in Excel where we systematized information about these women and the episodes where they were caught. This work made use of the analytical perspective of Social History which privileges. O artigo busca compreender as experiências das mulheres negras entre os anos de 1890 e 1899 na cidade do Recife. Para tanto, utilizaremos como fontes para localizá-las as notas das colunas policiais do jornal Diário de Pernambuco. Esse material permitirá uma aproximação às vivências dessas mulheres, a partir de um conjunto de informações captadas de maneira fragmentada devido às características da fonte como, por exemplo, a adoção do nome ou sobrenome Conceição para escapar da polícia. Do ponto de vista metodológico optamos por elaborar tabelas em Excelonde sistematizamos informações sobre essas mulheres e os episódios onde elas foram flagradas. Esse trabalho fez uso da perspectiva analítica da História Social a qual privilegia a observação, das ações dos de cima e dos de baixo, de forma dialógica e diacrônica.

A discussion of the phenomena affecting language learning. (Text is in Spanish.) (DS)

BACKGROUND: Having conquered water surfaces worldwide, the semi-aquatic bugs occupy ponds, streams, lakes, mangroves, and even open oceans. The diversity of this group has inspired a range of scientific studies from ecology and evolution to developmental genetics and hydrodynamics of fluid locomotion. However, the lack of a representative water strider genome hinders our ability to more thoroughly investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the processes of adaptation and diversification within this group. RESULTS: Here we report the sequencing and manual annotation of the Gerris buenoi (G. buenoi) genome; the first water strider genome to be sequenced thus far. The size of the G. buenoi genome is approximately 1,000 Mb, and this sequencing effort has recovered 20,949 predicted protein-coding genes. Manual annotation uncovered a number of local (tandem and proximal) gene duplications and expansions of gene families known for their importance in a variety of processes associated with morphological and physiological adaptations to a water surface lifestyle. These expansions may affect key processes associated with growth, vision, desiccation resistance, detoxification, olfaction and epigenetic regulation. Strikingly, the G. buenoi genome contains three insulin receptors, suggesting key changes in the rewiring and function of the insulin pathway. Other genomic changes affecting with opsin genes may be associated with wavelength sensitivity shifts in opsins, which is likely to be key in facilitating specific adaptations in vision for diverse water habitats. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that local gene duplications might have played an important role during the evolution of water striders. Along with these findings, the sequencing of the G. buenoi genome now provides us the opportunity to pursue exciting research opportunities to further understand the genomic underpinnings of traits associated with the extreme body plan and life history of water striders.

With a theoretical basis that has the feminist discourses of art as the main thread, we go on to the analysis of six paintings made by Francisco Brennand between the years 1995 and 2004. Griselda Pollock, Judith Butler, Peter Burker, Slavoj Zizek, Pierre Bourdieu and others make up this basis and hold a debate with the references used by Brennand to compose his imaginary. It’s from theses analyzes that we propose a discussion about the allegorization of the female body, demonstrating that there is an ideological intention in the production of these paintings, which consists in carrying forward a thought based on the heteronormative society sponsored by the emerging capital in the 20th century. That is, from the advancement of feminist guidelines, the valorization of woman artist and also from the changes in the idea of body, gender, sex and sexuality, there is an emergency in reasserting values, standards and norms. In addition to these evidences, we insist on pointing them out from a perspective that focuses on the man Francisco Brennand as an individual. It is by noticing his anxieties, obsessions, curiosities and the idea of desire that he spills over these productions that we will understand these social problems. Our methodology is based on what Panofsky (2002) called an iconological method, an analysis of allegories perceived in paintings. For these chosen paintings, we went to Francisco Brennand’s Diaries and other documents which we had access in the collection of Brennand’s Ceramic Workshop. As a result of this articulation between the paintings, the signs and the signs of that society back at that time, we can get a glimpse of how the idea of body (and all its adjacencies - gender/sex/sexuality/desire/performativity etc.) is developed in connection with several factors. We hope to contribute to a historiography that seeks the empowering of the bodies by perceiving their fluidity and importance on subjective aspects of culture and sociability. Nesta pesquisa, partimos da pergunta em torno do caráter tão íntimo das pinturas de Francisco Brennand, que, além de ficarem reservadas apenas aos olhares de um círculo fechado de críticos durante muito tempo, também revelam a obsessão do artista pelo corpo, e, pela idealização de uma noção de feminino. Com uma base teórica que tem os discursos feministas da arte como o principal fio condutor, voltamo-nos para a análise de seis pinturas feitas por Francisco Brennand entre os anos 1995 e 2004. Nesse sentido, Griselda Pollock (2001), Judith Butler (2011), Peter Burker (2017), Slavoj Zizek (2007), Pierre Bourdieu (2007), e outros, compõem essa base por manterem um debate com as referências utilizadas por Brennand para compor o seu imaginário. É a partir dessas análises que propomos uma discussão a respeito da alegorização do corpo dito feminino, demonstrando que existe uma intenção ideológica na produção dessas pinturas, que consiste em levar adiante um pensamento pautado pela sociedade heteronormativa, patrocinada pelo capital emergente no século XX. Isto é, a partir do avanço das pautas feministas, da valorização da mulher artista e, também, das mudanças na noção de corpo, gênero, sexo e sexualidade, cresce uma emergência em reafirmar valores, padrões e normativas. Além dessas evidências, insistimos em apontá-las a partir de uma perspectiva que foca no homem Francisco Brennand, o indivíduo. É percebendo suas angústias, obsessões, curiosidades e a noção de desejo que ele despeja sobre essas produções que nós entenderemos esses problemas sociais. Nossa metodologia se pauta no que Panofsky (2002) chamou de método iconológico, uma análise das alegorias percebidas nas pinturas. Dessas pinturas escolhidas, nós partimos para os Diários de Francisco Brennand e demais documentos aos quais tivemos acesso no acervo da Oficina de Cerâmica de Brennand. Como resultado dessa articulação entre as pinturas, os documentos e os sinais daquela sociedade e daquele tempo, podemos vislumbrar como a noção de corpo (e todas as suas adjacências - genenero/sexo/sexualidade/desejo/performatividades etc.) é fluída e se desenvolve em conexão a vários fatores. Esperamos com isso contribuir para uma historiografia que busca potencializar os corpos percebendo sua fluidez e importância nos aspectos subjetivos da cultura e das sociabilidades.

The textbook was chosen because it is the most used artifact by students and teachers in Brazilian classrooms; whose narrative is massively diffused in childhood and teenage educational process, its content constantly undergoes the state’s scrutiny, and it seeks to be the curriculum’s mirror instituted by the State itself. A historiographical review is made in this work regarding since the first bills that provided for the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian History within the post re-democratization context, until the approval of Law 10.639/2003 at the beginning of the 21st century. In this process, we sought to give visibility to the actors who joined the process of building up projects in the same area that preceded the law, as well as the final project itself. The main research sources used were the National Plenary websites to check the bills, besides the MNU activists’ biographies, academic articles, dissertations and theses. The action of the Unified Black Movement and its activists in the process of a law’s approval has a fundamentally educational competence and also a practical repercussion, once this act, from the law’s demand as well as other guidelines that intended to combat prejudice, is responsible for the continued elimination of prejudice in our society. O presente trabalho pretende investigar a contribuição dos militantes do Movimento Negro Unificado Contemporâneo (MNU) para a aprovação da lei 10.639/2003 que prevê a obrigatoriedade do ensino de história afrobrasileira e africana nos estabelecimentos de ensino brasileiros, e de que forma a mesma repercutiu nos Livros Didáticos de História. O livro didático foi escolhido em razão de ser o suporte mais utilizado nas salas de aula brasileiras pelos professores e alunos. A narrativa deste texto didático é difundida de forma massiva no processo educativo de crianças e jovens. Esta é submetida ainda ao crivo estatal e procura ser o espelho do currículo instituído pelo próprio estado. Foi feita uma retomada do ponto de vista historiográfico desde os primeiros projetos de lei que previam o ensino de história afrobrasileira e africana no contexto pós redemocratização até a aprovação da lei 10.639/2003 no início do século XXI. Neste processo, procuramos dar visibilidade aos atores que participaram do processo de construção dos projetos de mesmo gênero que antecederam a lei, assim como do projeto final. As principais fontes de pesquisa utilizadas foram os sites do Senado Federal e da Câmara dos Deputados para consulta dos projetos de lei, além de biografias dos militantes do MNU, artigos acadêmicos, dissertações e teses. A atuação do Movimento Negro Unificado e de seus militantes no processo de aprovação de uma lei final possui uma competência fundamentalmente educativa e de repercussão prática, uma vez que o mesmo, a partir da demanda pela lei assim como outras pautas que pretendiam o combate ao preconceito, é responsável pela contínua eliminação do preconceito em nossa sociedade.
