In this paper, a tunable multi-split transmitting (TX) coil for a wireless power transfer (WPT) system that accommodates a wide range of distances between the TX and receiving (RX) coils is proposed. This method enables the WPT system to maintain a stable and consistent output power supply to the load, regardless of variations in coupling coefficients caused by changes in the distance between the TX and RX coils. The tunable multi-split TX coil can operate in various modes depending on how the wire connections between each TX coil are configured. This approach adjusts the inductance value of the TX coil for different conditions, using the same amount of coil as a conventional single-loop TX coil. The results show that by adjusting the TX coil to three different modes as the airgap varies from 50 mm to 250 mm, consistent output power is achieved with smaller variations in the input current and voltage compared to those in a conventional system. A conventional system requires an input voltage increase of approximately 529.64%, while the proposed system requires only a 42.93% increase. The proposed system enhances the power transfer capacity of the WPT system, particularly when operating in an over-coupling state. This approach provides a stable output power supply with a standardized and simplified TX coil structure.

Racial unrest has long been a salient social issue in the United States. Time and space provide essential contexts for the emergence and evolution of racial unrest. However, the relationships between these contextual factors and public responses to racial unrest remain insufficiently explored. This study seeks to fill that gap, blending geocoded, time-stamped racial unrest tweet data with census information. It aims to explore how temporal elements and geographical characteristics of metropolitan areas contribute to the emergence of negative sentiment reactions to racial unrest on social media platforms. The racially charged unrest that transpired in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014 serves as our case study. We select 33 metropolitan regions across the U.S. for our analysis. Our findings indicate that temporal processes, encompassing circadian rhythms, weekday-weekend variations, and temporal decay, correlate with expressions of anxiety and anger, albeit not sadness. Furthermore, our analysis reveals geographical characteristics—notably income inequality and segregation, combined with the number of Black victims—to be associated with manifestations of anxiety.

The electro-thermal performance of silicon nanosheet field-effect transistors (NSFETs) with various parasitic bottom transistor (trpbt)-controlling schemes is evaluated. Conventional punch-through stopper, trench inner-spacer (TIS), and bottom oxide (BOX) schemes were investigated from single-device to circuit-level evaluations to avoid overestimating heat’s impact on performance. For single-device evaluations, the TIS scheme maintains the device temperature 59.6 and 50.4 K lower than the BOX scheme for n/pFETs, respectively, due to the low thermal conductivity of BOX. However, when the over-etched S/D recess depth (TSD) exceeds 2 nm in the TIS scheme, the RC delay becomes larger than that of the BOX scheme due to increased gate capacitance (Cgg) as the TSD increases. A higher TIS height prevents the Cgg increase and exhibits the best electro-thermal performance at single-device operation. Circuit-level evaluations are conducted with ring oscillators using 3D mixed-mode simulation. Although TIS and BOX schemes have similar oscillation frequencies, the TIS scheme has a slightly lower device temperature. This thermal superiority of the TIS scheme becomes more pronounced as the load capacitance (CL) increases. As CL increases from 1 to 10 fF, the temperature difference between TIS and BOX schemes widens from 1.5 to 4.8 K. Therefore, the TIS scheme is most suitable for controlling trpbt and improving electro-thermal performance in sub-3 nm node NSFETs.

This paper presents insights about schemes required to provide ultra-precise positioning services for multifarious environments. It describes positioning services and their requirements, and divides the services into “living convenience” and “productivity improvement”, and the requirements into “positioning quality” and “system efficiency”. It also presents the current accuracy levels, technical challenges, and research directions of positioning schemes that are based on satellite/communication system, image, ray-tracing, and fingerprint. Ultimately, this paper presents scenarios and solutions that provide 10cm-level positioning accuracy for both outdoor and indoor environments.

Abstract Gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines emit less carbon dioxide (CO2) than port fuel injection (PFI) engines when fossil fuel conditions are the same. However, GDI engines emit more ultrafine particulate matter, which can have negative health effects, leading to particulate emission regulations. To satisfy these regulations, various studies have been done to reduce particulate matter, and several studies focused on lubricants. This study focuses on the influence of lubricant on the formation of particulate matter and its effect on particulate emissions in GDI engines. An instrumented, combustion and optical singe-cylinder GDI engine fueled by four different lubricant-gasoline blends was used with various injection conditions. Combustion experiments were used to determine combustion characteristics, and gaseous emissions indicated that the lubricant did not influence mixture homogeneity but had an impact on unburned fuels. Optical experiments showed that the lubricant did not influence spray but did influence wall film formation during the injection period, which is a major factor affecting particulate matter generation. Particulate emissions indicated that lubricant included in the wall film significantly affected PN emissions depending on injection conditions. Additionally, the wall film influenced by the lubricant affected the overall particle size and its distribution.

Grain boundary (GB) at the source/drain (S/D) epitaxy was investigated using fully-calibrated TCAD. Because the S/D epi is grown separately at the bottom and the NS channels, nanosheet field-effect transistors (NSFETs) have unwanted GB within the S/D epi which fully relaxes the channel stresses. This GB changes the doping profiles and the stress values, which thus degrade the DC performances. We focused on single GB with different inclined angles and positions. N-type NSFETs have similar DC performances regardless of the GB since the changes of doping and stress were small. P-type NSFETs suffer from DC performance degradations but different depending on the GB positions. As the GB splits the p-type S/D epi into two, lower S/D below the GB has tensile stress and upper S/D above the GB has compressive stress. Since tensile stress increases boron diffusivity, more boron dopants diffuse into the NS channels as the device has lower S/D region, thus suffering the short channel effects greatly. The device having upper S/D region loses the channel stress much, so it degrades the on-state performance. This study provides clear understanding of the GB effects of NSFETs.

For the first time, we suggested that the monolithic 3D (M3D) static random access memory (SRAM) with gate and S/D bottom contact (GBC and SDBC) schemes (SRAMSDGBC) and analyzed they could significantly improve the power, performance, and area (PPA) compared to the conventional M3D SRAM (SRAM3D). SRAM3D could not directly connect the top-tier device and the bottom-tier metal line. Thus two tiers had to be connected by bypassing the metal line. As a result, SRAM3D wasted the area to place the monolithic interlayer via and did not get 50 % area scaling. However, gate and S/D bottom contact schemes, GBC and SDBC, could solve these problems. Although these methods required additional process steps, they brought significant advantages in interconnect RC and PPA. Based on a 26 nm width nanosheet transistor, SRAM3D showed a 30 % area reduction compared to 2D SRAM (SRAM2D), whereas SRAMSDGBC showed a 50 % area reduction. In the ideal (worst) case which ignoring (considering) the array resistance, the read and write access time of SRAMSDGBC were improved 7.7 % (19 %) and 8.3 % (33 %) than SRAM3D, and the write dynamic power was improved by 5.9 % (5 %). Especially, SRAMSDGBC showed improved PPA in the worst case compared to SRAM2D_Cu, which had relatively small interconnect resistivity. Namely, GBC and SDBC schemes are essential to enhance the PPA of M3D cells and will be a promising scheme in M3D SRAM and other logic cells.

This study proposed a novel source/drain (S/D) extension scheme to increase the stress in nanosheet (NS) field-effect transistors (NSFETs) and investigated the scheme by using technology-computer-aided-design simulations. In three-dimensional integrated circuits, transistors in the bottom tier were exposed to subsequent processes; therefore, selective annealing, such as laser-spike annealing (LSA), should be applied. However, the application of the LSA process to NSFETs significantly decreased the on-state current (Ion) owing to diffusionless S/D dopants. Furthermore, the barrier height below the inner spacer was not lowered even under on-state bias conditions because ultra-shallow junctions between the NS and S/D were formed far from the gate metal. However, the proposed S/D extension scheme overcame these Ion reduction issues by adding an NS-channel-etching process before S/D formation. A larger S/D volume induced a larger stress in the NS channels; thus, the stress was boosted by over 25%. Additionally, an increase in carrier concentrations in the NS channels improved Ion. Therefore, Ion increased by approximately 21.7% (37.4%) in NFETs (PFETs) compared with NSFETs without the proposed scheme. Additionally, the RC delay was improved by 2.03% (9.27%) in NFETs (PFETs) compared with NSFETs using rapid thermal annealing. Therefore, the S/D extension scheme overcame the Ion reduction issues encountered in LSA and significantly enhanced the AC/DC performance.

In the United States, federal and local governments have attempted to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) by implementing a variety of policies such as stay-at-home orders and mask mandates. Perceptions can influence behaviors; therefore, it is important to understand how people perceive the stringency of COVID-19 policies, what factors shape perceived policy stringency, and whether and how policy perceptions impact the practice of prevention behaviors. With rolling-cross sectional survey data collected in the US from June to October 2020 and other external sources of data, the study examines the impact of objective risk of the pandemic, information seeking, and political ideology at the individual and the state levels on perceived policy stringency, and the impact of perceived policy stringency on prevention behaviors such as mask wearing and social distancing. The findings reveal that objective risk and political ideology are significantly associated with perceived policy stringency. The perceived policy stringency has negative associations with prevention behaviors. The findings provide important implications for the development process of compulsory public health policies during the pandemic.

In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the leakage magnetic field from wireless power transfer (WPT) systems with series–series compensation topology by adjusting the phase difference between the transmitter (TX) coil current and the receiver (RX) coil current without additional shielding coils or materials. A WPT system employing the proposed method adjusts the phase difference between the TX coil current and RX coil current by tuning a resonant capacitor of the RX coil. The conditions for minimizing the leakage magnetic field are derived, and the range of the resonant capacitor of RX, considering power transfer efficiency and the leakage magnetic field, is proposed. Through simulations and experiments, it is verified that the proposed method can reduce the leakage magnetic field level without any additional materials. For that reason, the proposed method can be suitable for size-limited, weight-limited or cost-limited WPT systems.

The inner spacer thickness (TIS) variations in sub-3-nm, node 3-stacked, nanosheet field-effect transistors (NSFETs) were investigated using computer-aided design simulation technology. Inner spacer formation requires a high selectivity of SiGe to Si, which causes inevitable TIS variation (ΔTIS). The gate length (LG) depends on the TIS. Thus, the DC/AC performance is significantly affected by ΔTIS. Because the effects of ΔTIS on the performance depend on which inner spacer is varied, the sensitivities of the performance to the top, middle, and bottom (T, M, and B, respectively) ΔTIS should be studied separately. In addition, the source/drain (S/D) recess process variation that forms the parasitic bottom transistor (trpbt) should be considered with ΔTIS because the gate controllability over trpbt is significantly dependent on ΔTIS,B. If the S/D recess depth (TSD) variation cannot be completely eliminated, reducing ΔTIS,B is crucial for suppressing the effects of trpbt. It is noteworthy that reducing ΔTIS,B is the most important factor when the TSD variation occurs, whereas reducing ΔTIS,T and ΔTIS,M is crucial in the absence of TSD variation to minimize the DC performance variation. As the TIS increases, the gate capacitance (Cgg) decreases owing to the reduction in both parasitic and intrinsic capacitance, but the sensitivity of Cgg to each ΔTIS is almost the same. Therefore, the difference in performance sensitivity related to AC response is also strongly affected by the DC characteristics. In particular, since TSD of 5 nm increases the off-state current (Ioff) sensitivity to ΔTIS,B by a factor of 22.5 in NFETs, the ΔTIS,B below 1 nm is essential for further scaling and yield enhancement.

We present an indirect Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor based on standard pinned-photodiode (PPD) devices and design guides to pave the way for the development of a ToF pixel operating at 100 MHz modulation frequency. The standard PPDs are established well as predominant devices for 2-D color imagers in these days because of their low noise characteristic, but slow transfer speed of photo-generated electrons still prevents them from being employed to 3-D depth imagers. Optimized PPD structure with no process modifications is introduced to create a lateral electric field for enhancing charge transfer speed inside the PPD, and essential design parameters for achieving high operating frequency such as the epitaxial layer thickness, the pinning voltage, and the threshold voltage of the transfer gates are discussed with TCAD simulation results in this paper. Prototype indirect ToF sensors with various structures and parameters were fabricated using a 0.11- $\mu \text{m}$ standard CIS process and characterized fully. We successfully evaluated the demodulation contrast of each pixel at 10 to 75 MHz frequencies, figuring out the suitable conditions of the PPD-based pixel. The best pixel operating at 50 MHz frequency demonstrated a depth resolution of less than 13 mm and a linearity error of about 3.7% between 1 and 3 m distance with a zero-order calibration. We believe further optimization of the ToF pixel incorporated with the PPD devices is possible to improve the performance, operating it towards 100 MHz modulation frequency.

In this study, threshold voltage (Vth) variability was investigated in silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (SNWFETs) with short gate-lengths of 15–22 nm and various channel diameters (DNW) of 7, 9, and 12 nm. Linear slope and nonzero y-intercept were observed in a Pelgrom plot of the standard deviation of Vth (σVth), which originated from random and process variations. Interestingly, the slope and y-intercept differed for each DNW, and σVth was the smallest at a median DNW of 9 nm. To analyze the observed DNW tendency of σVth, a novel modeling approach based on the error propagation law was proposed. The contribution of gate-metal work function, channel dopant concentration (Nch), and DNW variations (WFV, ∆Nch, and ∆DNW) to σVth were evaluated by directly fitting the developed model to measured σVth. As a result, WFV induced by metal gate granularity increased as channel area increases, and the slope of WFV in Pelgrom plot is similar to that of σVth. As DNW decreased, SNWFETs became robust to ∆Nch but vulnerable to ∆DNW. Consequently, the contribution of ∆DNW, WFV, and ∆Nch is dominant at DNW of 7 nm, 9 nm, and 12, respectively. The proposed model enables the quantifying of the contribution of various variation sources of Vth variation, and it is applicable to all SNWFETs with various LG and DNW.

This paper proposes a shielding sensor (SS) coil to solve the misalignment issue and the leakage magnetic field issue of the wireless power transfer (WPT) system for electric vehicles (EVs). The misalignment issue and leakage magnetic field issue must be solved because they can cause problems with power transfer efficiency reduction and electronic device malfunction. To solve these problems, the proposed SS coils are located over the Tx coil. The newly created mutual inductance between the Tx coil and the SS coil is used to detect the misalignment of the receiver in the Tx coil. In addition, the current phase of the SS coil is adjusted through impedance control of the SS coil to reduce the leakage magnetic field. The proposed SS coils were applied to the standard SAE J2954 model for the wireless charging of an EV. The WPT3/Z2 model of SAE J2954 with output power of 10 kW was simulated to compare the shielding effect according to the power transfer efficiency, and it was confirmed that a shielding effect of 76% was shown under the condition of a 3% reduction in the power transfer efficiency. In addition, the occurrence and direction of the misalignment between the receiver and the Tx coil were confirmed by using the tendency of mutual inductance between each SS coil and the Tx coil. In addition, as in the simulation result, the shielding effect and tendency were confirmed in an experiment conducted with the output power downscaled to 500 W.

The efficiency of light-duty diesel engines should be improved for further emissions regulation. Multi-stage split injection with five injection events was investigated for improvement in efficiency at low-load conditions. The injection timing and quantity were adjusted to achieve a smooth in-cylinder pressure rise and continuous heat release. The multi-stage split injection was compared to injection strategies involving two-pilot and single-main injections. A 0.5 L single-cylinder diesel engine experiment was conducted under low-load conditions. Two multi-stage split injection processes with different combustion phases were developed. The multi-stage split injections yielded a smooth in-cylinder pressure trace and a lower peak heat release rate than the two-pilot injection process. The combustion duration was shorter for multi-stage split injection with an advanced combustion phase, and the fuel consumption was reduced by 1.78% with lower heat transfer, exhaust heat, and combustion loss. The multi-stage split injection flame penetration was shorter than the two-pilot injections. The shorter flame penetration and lower tip velocity reduced the heat transfer to the combustion chamber. The PM emissions were also reduced by 30% under the same NOx emissions, because increased PM oxidation and divided fuel injection prevented flame diffusion and improved air utilization.

Recently, the Korean government has announced a plan to develop a satellite-based navigation system called the Korean Positioning System (KPS). When designing a new Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) signal, the use of the S-band has emerged as an alternative to avoiding signal congestion in the L-bands, and South Korea is considering using the S-band with the L-bands. Therefore, this study proposed possible S-band signal candidates and evaluated their performance, such as the radio frequency (RF) compatibility, spectral efficiency, ranging performance, and receiver complexity. Several figures-of-merit (FoMs) were introduced for quantitative performance evaluation for each candidate. Each FoM was calculated using an analytical equation by considering the signal design parameters, such as the center frequency, modulation scheme, and chip rate. The results showed that the outstanding candidate signal was different depending on the signal performance of interest and the reception environments. Therefore, we discuss and summarize the signal performance analysis results considering the whole FoMs together. Under the assumptions given in this paper, the binary phase shift keying (BPSK)(1), sine-phased binary offset carrier (BOCs)(5,2), and BPSK signals were superior for the spectral efficiency, ranging performance, and receiver complexity, respectively.

This study aims to analyze the seasonal number concentrations corresponding to each particle size derived from the measurements of exhausts from approximately seven million vehicles on real-world using a pair of the scanning mobility particle sizer to determine the vehicle emission rate. The actual tunnel flow coefficient was investigated for car emission rate based on the measurements of individual physical parameters (i.e., cross section area and length of the tunnel, tunnel wind speed and traffic volume). The mode of particle diameter according to temperatures in respective seasons exhibited a high correlation together with rapid changes at temperature above the breakthrough point. The temperature acted as major cause of determination of final condensation diameter, which is also dependent on diverse environmental effects comprising particle number concentration. The traffic volume of ordinary cars increased by more than twice as much in the period of Asian New Year, the traffic volume of buses/RVs/trucks decreased by more than 25% during weekdays. As a result, the particle number concentration discharged from a unit vehicle was 6.96 × 1012 N/veh·km during weekdays, and the values of weekends appeared as 6.08 × 1012 N/veh·km. The overall averaged particle number concentration based on the actual seasonal road measurements shows 5.82 × 1012 N/veh·km.

With global anthropogenic black carbon (BC) emissions increasing, automobiles are significantly contributing as the major source of emissions. However, the appropriate regulations of BC emissions from vehicles are not in place. This study examined BC emissions following fuel types (gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and diesel) and engine combustion (gasoline direct injection (GDI) and multi-port injection (MPI) for gasoline vehicles) with emission regulations. To this end, chassis dynamometer and aethalometer (AE33) were used. Driving modes created by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) and emission certification modes (CVS-75 and NEDC) for vehicles in Korea were used to determine BC emissions for various vehicle speeds. In addition, the contributions of biomass and coal combustion to the data of AE33 were analyzed to determine the possibility of tracking the BC sources. MPI, LPG, and EURO 6 with diesel particulate filter (DPF) vehicles emitted the lowest BC emissions in NIER modes. Among gasoline vehicles, MPI vehicles showed the lower BC content in PM emissions. Also, older vehicles in MPI vehicles emitted the high PM and BC emissions. The BC emissions of EURO 3 vehicles without DPF were the highest as the results of previous studies, and it was found that as emissions regulations were tightened, the level of BC results of diesel vehicles became similar with MPI vehicles. The average absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) from difference emissions sources were biomass combustion (oak wood) > coal combustion (the power plant stack) > automobile emissions (gasoline, LPG, diesel).

Exposure of plants to different biotic and abiotic stress condition instigates significant change in the cellular redox status; resulting in the elevation of reactive nitrogen species that play signaling role in mediating defense responses. Heavy metal associated (HMA) domain containing genes are required for spatio-temporal transportation of metal ions that bind with various enzymes and co-factors within the cell. To uncover the underlying mechanisms mediated by AtHMA genes, we identified 14 Arabidopsis HMA genes that were differentially expressed in response to nitrosative stress through RNA-seq analysis. Of those 14 genes, the expression of eight HMA genes was significantly increased, whereas that of six genes was significantly reduced. We further validated the RNA-seq results through quantitative real-time PCR analysis. Gene ontology analysis revealed the involvement of these genes in biological processes such as hemostasis and transport. The majority of these nitric oxide (NO)-responsive AtHMA gene products are carrier/transport proteins. AtHMAD1 (At1g51090) showed the highest fold change to S-nitrosocystein. We therefore, further investigated its role in oxidative and nitrosative mediated stress conditions and found that AtHMAD1 has antagonistic role in shoot and root growth. Characterization of AtHMAD1 through functional genomics showed that the knock out mutant athmad1 plants were resistant to virulent Pseudomonas syringae (DC3000) and showed early induction and high transcript accumulation of pathogenesis related gene. Furthermore, inoculation of athamd1 with avirulent strain of the same bacteria showed negative regulation of R-gene mediated resistance. These results were supported by hypersensitive cell death response and cell death induced electrolyte leakage. AtHMAD1 was also observed to negatively regulate systemic acquired resistance SAR as the KO mutant showed induction of SAR marker genes. Overall, these results imply that NO-responsive AtHMA domain containing genes may play an important role in plant development and immunity.

The present research explores how autonomous vehicle voice agent (AVVA) design influences autonomous vehicle passenger (AVP) intentions to adopt autonomous vehicles. An online experiment (N = 158) examined the role of gender stereotypes in response to an AVVA with respect to the technology acceptance model. The findings indicate that characteristics of the AVVA that are more consistent with the stereotypical expectation of the social role (informative male AVVA and social female AVVA) foster greater perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU) than inconsistent conditions (social male AVVA and informative female AVVA). The study offers theoretical implications regarding the technology acceptance model in the context of autonomous technologies as well as practical implications for the design of autonomous vehicle voice agents.

Raman spectroscopy provides many advantages compared to other common analytical techniques due to its ability of rapid and accurate identification of unknown specimens as well as simple sample preparation. Here, we described potential of Raman spectroscopic technique as an efficient and high throughput method to detect plants infected by economically important viruses. To enhance the detection sensitivity of Raman measurement, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) was employed. Spectra of extracts from healthy and Turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV) infected Chinese cabbage leaves were collected by mixing with gold (Au) nanoparticles. Our result showed that TYMV infected plants could be discriminated from non-infected healthy plants, suggesting the current method described here would be an alternative potential tool to screen virus-infection of plants in fields although it needs more studies to generalize the technique.

An ionospheric error simulation is needed for creating precise Global Positioning System (GPS) signal using GPS simulator. In this paper we developed Klobuchar coefficients αn and βn (n = 1, 2, 3, 4) generation algorithms for simulator and verified accuracy of the algorithm. The algorithm extract those Klobuchar coefficients from broadcast (BRDC) messages provided by International GNSS Service during three years from 2006 through 2008 and curve-fit them with sinusoidal and linear functions or constant. The generated coefficients from our developed algorithms are referred to as MODL coefficients, while those coefficients from BRDC messages are named as BRDC coefficients. The maximum correlation coefficient between MODL and BRDC coefficients was found for α 2 and the value was 0.94. On the other hand, the minimum correlation was 0.64 for the case of α1 . We estimated vertical total electron content using the Klobuchar model with MODL coefficients, and compared the result with those from the BRDC model and global ionosphere maps. As a result, the maximum RMS was 3.92 and 7.90 TECU, respectively.

We propose a vector tracking loop (VTL) algorithm for an asynchronous pseudolite navigation system. It was implemented in a software receiver and experiments in an indoor navigation system were conducted. Test results show that the VTL successfully tracks signals against the near–far problem, one of the major limitations in pseudolite navigation systems, and could improve positioning availability by extending pseudolite navigation coverage.

As one of the GNSS error simulation case studies, we computed tropospheric signal delays based on three well-known models (Hopfield, Modified Hopfield and Saastamoinen) and a simple model. In the computation, default meteorological values were used. The result was compared with the GIPSY result, which we assumed as truth. The RMS of a simple model with Marini mapping function was the largest, 31.0 cm. For the other models, the average RMS is 5.2 cm. In addition, to quantify the influence of the accuracy of meteorological information on the signal delay, we did sensitivity analysis of pressure and temperature. As a result, all models used this study were not very sensitive to pressure variations. Also all models, except for the modified Hopfield model, were not sensitive to temperature variations.

GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Ground Station monitors navigation satellite signal, analyzes navigation result, and uploads correction information to satellite. GNSS Ground Station is considered as a main object for constructing GNSS infra-structure and applied in various fields. ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) is developing Monitoring and Control subsystem, which is subsystem of GNSS Ground Station. Monitoring and Control subsystem acquires GPS and Galileo satellite signal and provides signal monitoring data to GNSS control center. In this paper, the configurations of GNSS Ground Station and Monitoring and Control subsystem are introduced and the preliminary design of Monitoring and Control subsystem is performed. Monitoring and Control subsystem consists of data acquisition module, data formatting and archiving module, data error correction module, navigation solution determination module, independent quality monitoring module, and system operation and maintenance module. The design process uses UML (Unified Modeling Language) method which is a standard for developing software and consists of use-case modeling, domain design, software structure design, and user interface structure design. The preliminary design of Monitoring and Control subsystem enhances operation capability of GNSS Ground Station and is used as basic material for detail design of Monitoring and Control subsystem.

The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) becomes more important and is applied to various systems. Recently, the Galileo navigation system is being developed in Europe. Also, other countries like China, Japan and India are developing the global/regional navigation satellite system. As various global/regional navigation satellite systems are used, the navigation ground system gets more important for using the navigation system reasonably and efficiently. According to this trend, the technology of GNSS Ground Station (GGS) is developing in many fields. The one of purposes for this study is to develop the high precision receiver for GNSS sensor station and to provide ground infrastructure for better performance services on navigation system. In this study, we consider the configuration of GNSS Ground Station and analyze function of Monitoring and Control subsystem which is a part of GNSS Ground Station. We propose Monitoring and Control subsystem which contains the navigation software for GNSS Ground System to monitor and control equipments in GNSS Ground Station, to spread the applied field of navigation system, and to provide improved navigation information to user.

A communications satellite system placed in three-Lagrange points, L3, L4, and L5, of the restricted three-body problem in Earth-Moon system is proposed in this paper. LEO satellite constellation has been another choice of communications system. The proposed system which is alternatives of limited geostationary orbit resources, has some weak points such as long distance from the Earth, relatively expensive launch cost, long delay time, more required power, and so on. It has good points like less efforts (fuel) for station keeping, less eclipses, etc. This system has limitations for applications to provide commercial services but it is still some attractive points.

3D display of spacecraft motion by using telemetry data received from satellite in real-time is described. Telemetry data are converted to the appropriate form for 3-D display by the real-time preprocessor. Stored playback telemetry data also can be processed for the display. 3D display of spacecraft motion by using real telemetry data provides intuitive comprehension of spacecraft dynamics.

The design feature of KOMPSAT-2 simulator based on object oriented design methodology in terms of unified modeling language (UML) has been discussed in this paper. Also, we present how to embed flight software into the simulator. Flight software embedding for KOMPSAT-2 simulator is compared to that of the KOMPSAT-1 simulator.

This paper applied one of the well-known optimal control theory, namely, linear quadratic regulator(LQR), to the station-keeping maneuvers(SKM) for a geostationary satellite. The boundary conditions to transfer the system with a good accuracy at a terminal time were based upon the predicted orbital data which are created due to the Earth's non-uniform mass distribution's effect during 14 days and due to luni-solar effect during 28 days. Through the linearization of the nonlinear system equation with respect to reference orbit and the numerical integration of Riccati equation, the optimal trajectories and the corresponding control law have been obtained by using LQR. from the comparison of ¡âV obtained by LQR with the ¡âV obtained anatically by geometric method, Station Keeping Maneuvers(SKM) via LQR may provide comparable results to a real system. Furthermore it will demonstrate the possibility in fuel optimization and life extension of geostationary satellite.
