Due to global climate change, adverse environments like drought in agricultural production are occurring frequently, increasing the need for research to ensure stable crop production. This study was conducted to determine the effect of artificial hydrogen peroxide treatment on sorghum growth to induce stress resistance in drought conditions. Hyperspectral analysis was performed to rapidly find out the effects of drought and hydrogen peroxide treatment to estimate the physiological parameters of plants related to drought and calculate the vegetation indices through PLS analysis based on hyperspectral data. The partial least squares (PLS) analysis collected chlorophyll fluorescence variables, photosynthetic parameters, leaf water potential, and hyperspectral reflectance during the stem elongation and booting stage. To find out the effect of hydrogen peroxide treatment in sorghum plants grown under 90% and 60% of field capacity in greenhouses, growth and hyperspectral reflectance were measured on the 10th and 20th days after foliar application of H2O2 at 30 mM from 1st to 5th leaf stage. The PLS analysis shows that the maximum variable fluorescence of the dark-adapted leaves was the most predictable model with R2 = 0.76, and the estimation model suitability gradually increased with O (R2 = 0.51), J (R2 = 0.73), and P (R2 = 0.75) among OJIP parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence analysis. However, the estimation suitability of predictions for moisture-related traits, vapor pressure deficit (VPD, R2 = 0.18), and leaf water potential (R2 = 0.15) using hyperspectral data was low. The hyperspectral reflectance was 10% higher at 20 days after treatment (DAT) and 3% at 20 DAT than the non-treatment in the far red and infra-red light regions under drought conditions. Vogelmann red edge index (VOG REI) 1, chlorophyll index red edge (CIR), and red-edge normalized difference vegetation index (RE-NDVI) efficiently reflected moisture stress among the vegetation indices. Photochemical reflectance index (PRI) can be used as an indicator for early diagnosis of drought stress because hydrogen peroxide treatment showed higher values than untreated in the early stages of drought damage.

We study the vector and axial-vector form factors of radiative kaon decay within the framework of the gauged nonlocal effective chiral action from the instanton vacuum, focusing on the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking. The general tendency of the results are rather similar to those of radiative pion decays: The nonlocal contributions make the results of the vector form factor increased by about 20%, whereas they reduce those of the axial-vector form factor by almost 50%. Suppressing the prefactors consisting of the kaon mass and the pion decay constant, we scrutinize how the kaon form factors undergo changes as the mass of the strange current quark is varied. Those related to the vector and second axial-vector form factors tend to decrease monotonically as the strange quark mass increases, whereas that for the axial-vector form factor decreases. When K→eνγ decay is considered, both the results of the vector and axial-vector form factors at the zero momentum transfer are in good agreement with the experimental data. We investigate the vector and axial-vector form factors for the pion radiative weak decays π+→e+νeγ and π+→e+νee+e−, based on the gauged effective chiral action from the instanton vacuum in the large Nc limit. The nonlocal contributions, which arise from the gauging of the action, enhance the vector form factor by about 20%, whereas the axial-vector form factor is reduced by almost 30%. Both the results for the vector and axial-vector form factors at the zero momentum transfer are in good agreement with the experimental data. The dependence of the form factors on the momentum transfer is also studied. The slope parameters are computed and compared with other works.

This study investigates the microstructure evolution and texture development of friction stir processed (FSP) AA6061-T6 Al–Mg–Si matrix composites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets. Using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), we studied changes in grain boundary characteristics and texture components. As heat input increases, the Zener-Hollomon parameter decreases, causing grain size to grow. Particles, including those of Fe-rich and Mg2Si nature, also coarsen from average sizes of 0.9–1.4 μm, and 0.2–0.5 μm, respectively. Higher heat input and plastic strain lead to a reduction of the fraction of low-Σ boundaries, while increasing high-Σ boundaries suggest activation of other deformation mechanisms, i.e., from dislocation slip to twinning, respectively, as a function of dislocation generation and recovery kinetics. Grain orientation spread (GOS) and kernel average misorientation (KAM) values also decrease, indicating a higher homogeneity and smaller local disorientations under the excess heat. The higher texture indices observed in the composite samples suggest that frictional heat and graphene addition collectively enhance preferred orientations, potentially leading to higher anisotropy. Principal texture components shift from {101}, {1‾2‾3}, {111}, {332}, {013}, and {214} in the base metal to {011}, {011}, and {112} in composites. Components such as {101} remains unaffected.

Abstract To realize the practical application of rechargeable Zn–Air batteries (ZABs), it is imperative to develop a non‐noble metal‐based electrocatalyst with high electrochemical performance for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, Ni‐doped Co9S8 nanoparticles dispersed on an inverse opal‐structured N, S co‐doped carbon matrix (IO─NixCo9‐xS8@NSC) as a bifunctional electrocatalyst is presented. The unique 3D porous structure, arranged in an inverse opal pattern, provides a large active surface area. Also, the conductive carbon substrate ensures the homogeneous dispersion of NixCo9‐xS8 nanocrystals, preventing aggregation and increasing the exposure of active sites. The introduction of heteroatom dopants into the Co9S8 structure generates defect sites and enhances surface polarity, thereby improving electrocatalytic performance in alkaline solutions. Consequently, the IO─NixCo9‐xS8@NSC shows excellent bifunctional activity with a high half‐wave potential of 0.926 V for ORR and a low overpotential of 289 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER. Moreover, the rechargeable ZAB assembled with prepared electrocatalyst exhibits a higher specific capacity (768 mAh gZn−1), peak power density (180.2 mW cm−2), and outstanding stability (over 160 h) compared to precious metal‐based electrocatalyst.

Abstract Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) are carried by wild migratory waterfowl across migratory flyways. To determine the strains of circulating AIVs that may pose a risk to poultry and humans, regular surveillance studies must be performed. Here, we report the surveillance of circulating AIVs in South Korea during the winter seasons of 2009–2013. A total of 126 AIVs were isolated from 7942 fecal samples from wild migratory birds, with a total isolation rate of 1.59%. H1‒H7 and H9‒H11 hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes, and N1‒N3, N5, and N7‒N9 neuraminidase (NA) subtypes were successfully isolated, with H6 and N2 as the most predominant HA and NA subtypes, respectively. Sequence identity search showed that the HA and NA genes of the isolates were highly similar to those of low-pathogenicity influenza strains from the East Asian-Australasian flyway. No match was found for the HA genes of high-pathogenicity influenza strains. Thus, the AIV strains circulating in wild migratory birds from 2009 to 2013 in South Korea likely had low pathogenicity. Continuous surveillance studies such as this one must be performed to identify potential precursors of influenza viruses that may threaten animal and human health.

The study of water at high pressure and temperature is essential for understanding planetary interiors but is hampered by the high reactivity of water at extreme conditions. Here, indirect X-ray laser heating of water in a diamond anvil cell is realized via a gold absorber, showing no evidence of reactivity.

Abstract Influenza viruses cause significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Long-term or frequent use of approved anti-influenza agents has resulted in drug-resistant strains, thereby necessitating the discovery of new drugs. In this study, we found aprotinin, a serine protease inhibitor, as an anti-influenza candidate through screening of compound libraries. Aprotinin has been previously reported to show inhibitory effects on a few influenza A virus (IAV) subtypes (e.g., seasonal H1N1 and H3N2). However, because there were no reports of its inhibitory effects on the other types of influenza viruses, we investigated the inhibitory effects of aprotinin in vitro on a wide range of influenza viruses, including avian and oseltamivir-resistant influenza virus strains. Our cell-based assay showed that aprotinin had inhibitory effects on seasonal human IAVs (H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes), avian IAVs (H5N2, H6N5, and H9N2 subtypes), an oseltamivir-resistant IAV, and a currently circulating influenza B virus. We have also confirmed its activity in mice infected with a lethal dose of influenza virus, showing a significant increase in survival rate. Our findings suggest that aprotinin has the capacity to inhibit a wide range of influenza virus subtypes and should be considered for development as a therapeutic agent against influenza.

Abstract Herein, we manufactured the positive and negative electrodes for the hybrid capacitor. The Mn-doped High surface area of Activated carbon composite used for the positive electrode and as-prepared composite was calcined at 600 °C and 800 °C. The morphological structures and pore-size distributions of MnYP-600HTT and MnYP-800HTT were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, EDAX, TEM, and BET. According to the BET specific surface-area evaluation, MnYP-600HTT and MnYP-800HTT were 1272.6 and 1388.1 m2/g, respectively. Total pore volumes were 0.627 and 0.687 cm3/g, which is beneficial for forming ion-transport channels in electrochemical reactions. The MnYP-600HTT electrode had a high specific capacity of 177.2 mAh/g at 20C, and the capacity retention was 64.8%. During the entire cycling, MnYP-600HTT had excellent cyclic stability in 500 cycles along with high efficiency. The robust design of the MnYP-600HTT and MnYP-800HTT cathode materials introduced in this work pave the way for designing next-generation supercapacitors operating at ultra-high C rates. The Mn-doped high surface of activated carbon had stable energy density and superior cycling stability that were demonstrated in supercapacitor systems.

We isolated Japanese encephalitis virus genotype 5 from human specimens in South Korea. Whole-genome analysis showed 90.4% identity with other genotype 5 viruses from humans. This virus had a unique insertion in the NS4A gene. However, the envelope protein contained Lys 84, which was specific to strains of genotype 5 viruses from South Korea.

Abstract Photobleaching is the permanent loss of fluorescence after extended exposure to light and is a major limiting factor in super‐resolution microscopy (SRM) that restricts spatiotemporal resolution and observation time. Strategies for preventing or overcoming photobleaching in SRM are reviewed developing new probes and chemical environments. Photostabilization strategies are introduced first, which are borrowed from conventional fluorescence microscopy, that are employed in SRM. SRM‐specific strategies are then highlighted that exploit the on–off transitions of fluorescence, which is the key mechanism for achieving super‐resolution, which are becoming new routes to address photobleaching in SRM. Off states can serve as a shelter from excitation by light or an exit to release a damaged probe and replace it with a fresh one. Such efforts in overcoming the photobleaching limits are anticipated to enhance resolution to molecular scales and to extend the observation time to physiological lifespans.

Abstract To achieve a high solar‐to‐hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiency, delicate strategies toward high photocurrent together with sufficient onset potential should be developed. Herein, an SnS semiconductor is reported as a high‐performance photocathode. Use of proper sulfur precursor having weak dipole moment allows to obtain high‐quality dense SnS nanoplates with enlarged favorable crystallographic facet, while suppressing inevitable anisotropic growth. Furthermore, the introducing Ga2O3 layer between SnS and TiO2 in SnS photocathodes efficiently improves the charge transport kinetics without charge trapping. The SnS photocathode reveals the highest photocurrent density of 28 mA cm−2 at 0 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode. Overall solar water splitting is demonstrated for the first time by combining the optimized SnS photocathode with a Mo:BiVO4 photoanode, achieving a STH efficiency of 1.7% and long‐term stability of 24 h. High performance and low‐cost SnS photocathode represent a promising new material in the field of photoelectrochemical solar water splitting.

Decalin-containing tetramic acid derivatives, especially 3-decalinoyltetramic acids (3-DTAs), are commonly found as fungal secondary metabolites. Numerous biological activities of this class of compounds, such as antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, antiplasmodial, and antiprotozoal properties, have been the subject of ongoing research. For this reason, these molecules have attracted a lot of interest from the scientific community and various efforts including semi-synthesis, co-culturing with bacteria and biosynthetic gene sequencing have been made to obtain more derivatives. In this review, 3-DTAs are classified into four major groups based on the absolute configuration of the bicyclic decalin ring. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) modification such as oxidation and glycation has been known to play a significant role in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. The inhibitors on LDL modification have been emerged as a new strategy to be a supplement for prevention of atherosclerosis. In an effort to discover inhibitors on LDL modification from natural products, phytochemical investigation on Cynanchum wilfordii roots were performed, leading to isolation of acetophenones (1–6) including a new one (1) and nine pregnane-type steroids (7–15). The structure of the compound 1 was determined by analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectral data analysis. All the isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against LDL modification. Among them, compounds 2 and 5 strongly inhibited LDL oxidation and glycation. These results suggest that compounds 2 and 5 from C. wilfordii may provide potential protective effects against atherosclerosis via inhibition of LDL oxidation and glycation.

We introduced enhanced UnaG (eUnaG), a ligand-activatable fluorescent protein, for conventional and super-resolution imaging of subcellular structures in the mammalian cells. eUnaG is a V2L mutant of UnaG with twice brighter bulk fluorescence. We previously discovered the reversible fluorescence switching behavior of UnaG and demonstrated the high photon outputs and high localization numbers in single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM). In this study, we showed that the fluorescence of eUnaG can be switched off under blue-light illumination, while a high concentration of fluorogenic ligands in the buffer can efficiently restore the fluorescence, as in UnaG. We demonstrated the capacity of eUnaG as an efficient protein label in mammalian cells, as well as for SMLM by utilizing its photoswitchable nature. While cytosolic UnaG proteins showed aggregated patches and fluorescence reduction at high expression levels, eUnaG-labeled protein targets successfully formed their proper structures in mammalian cells without notable distortion from the endogenous structure in the majority of transiently expressing cells. In particular, eUnaG preserved the vimentin filament structures much better than the UnaG. eUnaG provided similarly high single-molecule photon count distribution to UnaG, thus also similarly high resolution in the super-resolution images of various subcellular structures. The sampling coverage analysis of vimentin filaments in SMLM images showed the improvement of labeling efficiency of eUnaG. eUnaG is a high-performance fluorescent protein for fluorescence and single-molecule localization imaging in green emission with minimal labeling artifact.

The proper timing of flowering in response to environmental changes is critical for ensuring crop yields. FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) homologs of the phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein family play important roles as floral integrators in many crops. In soybean, we identified 17 genes of this family, and characterized biological functions in flowering for ten FT homologs. Overexpression of GmFT homologs in Arabidopsis revealed that a set of GmFT homologs, including GmFT2a/2b, GmFT3a/3b, and GmFT5a/5b, promoted flowering similar to FT; in contrast, GmFT1a/1b, GmFT4, and GmFT6 delayed flowering. Consistently, expressions of GmFT2a, GmFT2b, and GmFT5a were induced in soybean leaves in response to floral inductive short days, whereas expressions of GmFT1a and GmFT4 were induced in response to long days. Exon swapping analysis between floral activator GmFT2a and floral repressor GmFT4 revealed that the segment B region in the fourth exon is critical for their antagonistic functions. Finally, expression analysis of GmFT2a, GmFT5a, and GmFT4 in soybean accessions exhibiting various flowering times indicated that the mRNA levels of GmFT2a and GmFT5a were higher in early flowering accessions than in late-flowering accessions, while GmFT4 showed the opposite pattern. Moreover, the relative mRNA levels between GmFT2a/GmFT5a and GmFT4 was important in determining day length-dependent flowering in soybean accessions. Taken together, our results suggest that the functions of GmFT homologs have diversified into floral activators and floral repressors during soybean evolution, and the timing of flowering in response to changing day length is determined by modulating the activities of antagonistic GmFT homologs.

Background: There are several reports about spinal fracture after the seizure. Mostly thoracic or thoracolumbar fracture, and most of these cases, there is no neurologic symptom and heal spontaneously. However, this report is the first presentation of neurological compromised high risk in Child-Pugh class C liver cirrhosis patient treatment who had secondary osteoporosis spinal fracture. Case description: A 50-year-old man was requested for cooperative medical consultation from the internal medicine department who admitted for treatment of hepatic encephalopathy due to alcoholic liver cirrhosis. During chest x-ray checked, he had a generalized tonic-clonic seizure attack for 2 min; after that, hip, knee, and ankle joint had no motor power, and contraction of toes (grade 1/5) remained, and the sensation was significantly decreased below L2 dermatome level. The patient had alcoholic liver cirrhosis, Child-Pugh class C and secondary osteoporosis. Surgical treatment was required, but the patient's condition was poor and had a high bleeding tendency with below 20,000/mcL platelet count, so surgical treatment was high risk. After a lot of contemplation, surgery was performed for early rehabilitation and quality of life. The operation was performed in two stages. Secondary osteoporosis is being treated with bisphosphonate with vitamin D. Conclusion: To our best Known, This case report is the first description of the treatment of Seizures with hepatic encephalopathy induced thoracolumbar burst fracture in alcoholic liver cirrhosis patient. Spinal surgery of Child-Pugh class c patient was expected bad results, but we reported good results.

A crop model incorporating proximal sensing images from a remote-controlled aerial system (RAS) can serve as an enhanced alternative for monitoring field-based geospatial crop productivity. This study aimed to investigate wheat productivity for different cultivars and various nitrogen application regimes and determine the best management practice scenario. We simulated spatiotemporal wheat growth and yield by integrating RAS-based sensing images with a crop-modeling system to achieve the study objective. We conducted field experiments and proximal sensing campaigns to acquire the ground truth data and RAS images of wheat growth conditions and yields. These experiments were performed at Gyeongsang National University (GNU), Jinju, South Gyeongsang province, Republic of Korea (ROK), in 2018 and 2019 and at Chonnam National University (CNU), Gwangju, ROK, in 2018. During the calibration at GNU in 2018, the wheat yields simulated by the modeling system were in agreement with the corresponding measured yields without significant differences (p = 0.27–0.91), according to two-sample t-tests. Furthermore, the yields simulated via this approach were in agreement with the measured yields at CNU in 2018 and at GNU in 2019 without significant differences (p = 0.28–0.86), as evidenced by two-sample t-tests; this proved the validity of the proposed modeling system. This system, when integrated with remotely sensed images, could also accurately reproduce the geospatial variations in wheat yield and growth variables. Given the results of this study, we believe that the proposed crop-modeling approach is applicable for the practical monitoring of wheat growth and productivity at the field level.

Dislocation creep behaviors of CoCrFeMnNi were investigated at intermediate temperatures. Shape of creep curves, stress exponents and the activation energies at high stresses (>40 MPa) were distinctly different from those at low stresses, suggesting the transition of creep mechanism from climb-controlled creep to viscous glide creep. Lattice strain energy of dislocations plays an important role on the distribution of atoms over the configurational entropy in the vicinity of dislocation. The excellent agreement between the experimental transition stress and the theoretical stress using the data of Cr suggests that Cr is the most influential element to the viscous glide at high stresses.
