Individuals and organizations responding to humanitarian crises recognize the need to improve urban emergency response and preparedness - including the need to devise better methods for assessing vulnerability within urban populations, This systematic review represents the first ever attempt to systematically search, sort and synthesize the existing evidence in order to consolidate findings on the tools, methods and metrics used to identify and prioritize vulnerable people, households and communities, including those displaced within and to urban areas. It is accompanied by a stand-alone executive summary and evidence brief It forms part of a series of humanitarian evidence syntheses and systematic reviews commissioned by theHumanitarian Evidence Programme

Abstract

The purpose of this document is to clearly describe the proposed research questions and methodology for an evidence synthesis on practices to identify and prioritize vulnerable populations affected by urban humanitarian emergencies. This protocol outlines the reasons for this evidence synthesis, how the review will be conducted, plans for critical appraisal of included studies and methods of synthesis. The aim of the synthesis is to consolidate the practices (including tools, methods and metrics) reported by practitioners and academics to identify and prioritize vulnerable people, households or communities within populations affected by humanitarian emergencies, including those displaced within and to urban areas. This synthesis is funded through the Humanitarian Evidence Programme, a UK Aid-funded partnership between Oxfam and Feinstein International Center (FIC) at the Friedman School of Nutrition at Tufts University. The Humanitarian Evidence Programme aims to synthesize evidence in the humanitarian sector and communicate the findings to stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of improving humanitarian policy and practice.

Abstract

Understanding and controlling the electrical properties of solution-processed 2D materials is key to further printed electronics progress. Here we demonstrate that the thermolysis of the aromatic intercalants utilized in nanosheet exfoliation for graphene laminates opens the route to achieving high intrinsic mobility and simultaneously controlling doping type ($n$- and $p$-) and concentration over a wide range. We establish that the intra-flake mobility is high by observing a linear magnetoresistance of such solution-processed graphene laminates and using it to devolve the inter-flake tunneling and intra-layer magnetotransport. Consequently, we determine the temperature dependences of the inter- and intra-layer characteristics, which both appear to be dominated by phonon-assisted processes at temperature $T>$20 Kelvin. In particular, we identify the efficiency of phonon-assisted tunneling as the main limiting factor for electrical conductivity in graphene laminates at room temperature. We also demonstrate a thermoelectric sensitivity of around 50 ${\mu}$V K$^{-1}$ in a solution-processed metal-free graphene-based thermocouple.

24. A Survey of Music Teachers' Working Conditions

Abstract

For this study the researchers examined music teacher responses to survey items pertaining to their working conditions. Participants reported their satisfaction about factors related to music program funding, facilities, workload, professional development, and school culture. Responses were analyzed to detect possible differences in responses due to demographic factors of teachers, schools, and teaching assignments. Initial findings indicated that teachers were generally satisfied with their all aspects of their working conditions with the exception of professional development. A MANOVA was conducted to determine if there were any significant differences in responses based on participant demographics. While our study found no disparities in working conditions due to teacher factors, we did find a statistically significant link between the socioeconomic status of the school community and teacher perceptions of the funding, facilities, and culture within the school. This relationship was found to be moderated by the locale of the school, with greater differences in working conditions between low and high socioeconomically situated music programs in suburban and urban communities compared to their more rural peers. Open-ended responses from participants suggested that while disparities exist between music programs, teachers may judge their working conditions in comparison to their perceptions about other schools rather than the realities.
