Abstract

We present the results of a James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRCam and NIRSpec investigation into the young massive star cluster (YMC) population of NGC 3256, the most cluster-rich luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG) in the Great Observatories All Sky LIRG Survey. We detect 3061 compact YMC candidates with a $S/N \geq 3$ at F150W, F200W, and F335M. Based on yggdrasil stellar population models, we identify 116/3061 sources with F150W - F200W $> 0.47$ and F200W - F355M $> -1.37$ colors suggesting they are young (t $\leq 5$ Myr), dusty ($A_{V} = 5 - 15$), and massive ($M_{\odot} > 10^{5}$). This increases the sample of dust-enshrouded YMCs detected in this system by an order of magnitude relative to previous HST studies. With NIRSpec IFU pointings centered on the northern and southern nucleus, we extract the Pa$\alpha$ and 3.3$\mu$m PAH equivalent widths for 8 bright and isolated YMCs. Variations in both the F200W - F335M color and 3.3$\mu$m PAH emission with the Pa$\alpha$ line strength suggest a rapid dust clearing ($< 3 - 4$ Myr) for the emerging YMCs in the nuclei of NGC 3256. Finally, with both the age and dust emission accurately measured we use yggdrasil to derive the color excess (E(B - V)) for all 8 YMCs. We demonstrate that YMCs with strong 3.3$\mu$m PAH emission (F200W - F335M $> 0$) correspond to sources with E(B - V) $> 3$, which are typically missed in UV-optical studies. 2. Vibrationally excited HC3N emission in NGC1068: Tracing the recent star formation in the starburst ring

Abstract

Using ALMA data, we have studied the HC$_3$N and continuum emission in the starburst ring (SB ring) and the circumnuclear disc (CND) of the SB/AGN composite galaxy NGC 1068. We have detected emission from vibrationally excited HC$_3$N (HC$_3$N*) only towards one star-forming region of the SB ring. Remarkably, HC$_3$N* was not detected towards the CND despite its large HC$_3$N $v=0$ column density. From LTE and non-LTE modelling of HC$_3$N*, we obtained a dust temperature of $ T_\text{dust} \sim 250$ K and a density of $n_{\text{H}_2}=6\times10^5$ cm$^{-3}$ for this star-forming region. The estimated IR luminosity of $5.8\times10^8$ L$_\odot$ is typical of proto-Super Star Clusters (proto-SSC) observed in the SB galaxy NGC 253. We use the continuum emissions at $147$ GHz and $350$ GHz, along with CO and Pa $\alpha$, to estimate the ages of other $14$ SSCs in the SB ring. We find the youngest SSCs to be associated with the region connecting the nuclear bar with the SB ring, supporting the scenario of sequential star formation. For the CND, our analysis yields $T_\text{dust} \leqslant 100$ K and $n_{\text{H}_2}\sim(3-6)\times10^5$cm$^{-3}$. The very different dust temperatures found for the CND and the proto-SSC indicates that, while the dust in the proto-SSC is being efficiently heated from the inside by the radiation from massive proto-stars, the CND is being heated externally by the AGN, which in the IR optically thin case can only heat the dust to $56$ K. We discuss the implications of the non-detection of HC$_3$N* near the luminous AGN in NGC 1068 on the interpretation of the HC$_3$N* emission observed in the SB/AGN composite galaxies NGC 4418 and Arp 220., Comment: submitted to MNRAS on 08/08/2020

Abstract

Sistematizar la experiencia de la práctica profesional a través de la implementación del rincón psicomotriz donde se evidencio las mejoras en el comportamiento y la indisciplina de los niños y niñas del grado pre-jardin del colegio Emmaús del municipio de Anapoima Cundinamarca. Este trabajo de sistematización es la reflexión de nuestra práctica profesional número I, séptimo semestre del programa de Licenciatura En Pedagogía Infantil realizada en el 2018 en la institución, Liceo Emmaus de Anapoima Cundinamarca, la cual consistió en construir un rincón de psicomotricidad y juego para los niños (as) del grado pre-jardín según la necesidad evidenciada, brindándoles un espacio en donde los individuos exploran, creen y se divierten con las actividades dejadas allí, logrando despertar el interés de los niños en la realización de los trabajos orientados a ellos. Esta sistematización se hace con el propósito de reflexionar y promover los rincones de aprendizaje como herramientas para el aprendizaje significativo de los niños y niñas. This systematization work is the reflection of our professional practice of the seventh semester of the Bachelor in Child Pedagogy program carried out in 2018 at the Liceo Emmaus institution in Anapoima Cundinamarca, in which it consisted of building a corner of psychomotricity and play for children ( as) of the pre-garden grade according to the evidenced need, offering them a space where individuals explore, create and have fun with the activities left there, managing to awaken the interest of the children in the accomplishment of the works oriented to them. This systematization is done with the purpose of reflecting and promoting learning corners as tools for meaningful learning for boys and girls.

Abstract

[EN] Compost represents a sustainable alternative for peat (P) replacement in soilless plant cultivation, but its use can be limited by several inadequate physical and physicochemical properties. Biochar can alleviate some of the limitations of compost for its use as growth media by improving the physical properties, decreasing salinity and making the phytotoxic compounds unavailable for plants. We studied the physical and physicochemical properties of holm oak biochar (B), poultry manure compost (PMC), poultry manure composted with biochar (PMBC), a commercial peat (P) and multiple combinations of these materials as growth media, and their effect on the rooting and growth of rosemary. PMBC and PMC showed similar physical and physicochemical properties as growing media, and they both were phytotoxic when used in a rate above 50% (by volume) in the growing medium. However, when used at proportion of 25%, PMBC was less phytotoxic than PMC and enhanced the percentage of rosemary cutting rooting. The incorporation of B in the growing medium instead of P (either at 50% or 75% in volume) increased the stability of the growing media and the percentage of rooted cuttings, but it did not affect plant growth significantly. Our results demonstrate the potential of substituting peat by a combination of poultry manure compost and biochar for the formulation of growth media.

31. Active aircraft fault detection, accommodation and evaluation of performance reduction

Abstract

One of the principal issues which must be overcome for the safe integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in both militarian and civilian airspaces is how to increase their level of reliability, [1],[2]. In order to improve it and considering that Flight Control Systems were involved in numerous incidents [3], reference [4] suggests to incorporate emerging technologies such as Self-Repairing Flight Control Systems (SRFCS). In this thesis Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) and Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) are understood in this sense. Within the recon gurable ight control problem, the aims of this project are to analyse the conditions in which the aircraft is able to continue its mission in the event of control surface failures and to determine failure induced conditions which will a ect the vehicle in future ight conditions. The recon gurable control scheme relies on information from Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) and/or from a FDD system. For that reason, a FDD system which is capable to detect, isolate and estimate the occurrence of one or several control surface failures is implemented. The Fault Accommodation scheme consists in the simultaneous implementation of a new operating point after the failure and a Fault Tolerant Control. The oper- ating point computation in faulty mode is based on the aircraft analytical model and considered as an optimal recon guration strategy of the healthy actuators. The boundaries in which the aircraft will be capable to carry on ying in faulty mode are also determined. The control recon guration is performed with a con- trol allocation scheme, providing recon guration when the aircraft is subjected to actuator failures, thereby improving manoeuvrability and survivability of the degraded aircraft. Finally, the reduction of the aircraft ight performance is analysed. For that reason, the contrast of attainable moment subset, the degraded turn performance and the ying qualities after the occurrence of the fault are evaluated. Apart from the evaluation of the degraded performance, analysing the attainable moment subset under faulty conditions is interesting as it can be used in the recon- guration problem. Besides, the degraded turn performance problem is addressed with the objective of being implemented real-time in order to inform to the recon- gurable guidance system, which will guide the aircraft along a trajectory that is compatible with the new ying properties of the aircraft.

Abstract

Músico del siglo XIX poco conocido en España a pesar de su trayectoria internacional y su contacto con los principales músicos de su tiempo, en este trabajo se aportan innumerables fuentes sobre su trayectoria profesional como pianista, compositor y pedagogo., [EN] Biographical reconstruction and summary of the work of the Valencian pianist Blas Maria Colomer. Musician of the 19th century little known in Spain in spite of his international path and his contact with the principal musicians of his time, in this work innumerable sources are contributed on his professional path as pianist, composer and pedagogue.

Abstract

In this study, the possibility of using a biodegradable grade of thermoplastic poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) with high (71 mol %) vinyl alcohol (EVOH-29), as a carrier to incorporate the renewable and biodegradable component amylopectin (AP) into poly(lactic acid) (PLA) through melt blending, was investigated. The effect of using a plasticizer/compatibilizer (glycerol) in the blend systems was also investigated. In a first step, the EVOH/AP blends were produced and thereafter, in a second step, these were mixed with PLA. In this first study, the blend morphology was investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Raman imaging spectroscopy and the thermal properties were measured by differential scanning calorimetry. Despite the fact that EVOH and AP are both highly polar, their blends were immiscible. Still, the blends exhibited an excellent phase dispersion on a micron level, which was enhanced further by the addition of glycerol. A good phase dispersion was finally observed by incorporation of the latter blends in the PLA matrix, suggesting that the proposed blending route can be successfully applied for these systems. Finally, the Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data showed that the melting point of EVOH dropped in the EVOH/AP blends, but the properties of the PLA phase was still relatively unaffected as a result of blending with the above components., QC 20100525

Abstract

This investigation describes the design of the Strategies and Motivation for University Study Questionnaire (CEMEU in is version in Spanish) and its administration with a sample of 1,708 first year students at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. Results are analysed in order to identify specific profiles in the use of study strategies and motivation. Satisfactory Cronbach's Alpha coefficient is satisfactory, thus supporting the reliability of the instrument. Internal consistency and content validity are also supported by factor analysis and revision of the instrument by a panel of experts. Means differences are tested according to gender, age range and discipline in order to define student profiles around their competence in the use of strategies for study and motivation. These results can be applied in order to customise guidance interventions to students needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
