Background: Hydatid cysts (HC) are zoonotic diseases that are mainly caused by . Ovarian HC is a rare condition with different and unspecified presentations. Here we report a rare case of primary ovarian HC. Case Presentation: A 47-year-old woman with chronic abdominal pain and left hemipelvic fullness was referred to the Obstetrics Clinic of the Kowsar Hospital of Qazvin. Abdominopelvic sonography revealed a cystic mass, which primarily suggested a cyst adenoma. The tumor marker levels were within normal limits. After surgical resection, histopathological examination showed a cystic mass with dimensions of 10×6×3 cm, smooth external and internal aspects, wall thickness of 0.3 cm, and multiple pieces of irregular gray membranous tissue. The patient was treated with albendazole 3 months after surgery, and a 6-month follow-up sonogram revealed no signs of recurrence.Discussion: HC has non-specific presentations. Radiologists, pathologists, and surgeons should consider HC as a differential diagnosis for any cystic mass in the pelvic cavity, especially in endemic areas. Surgical resection and albendazole administration are the chosen treatments.

Background: The present study was designed to determine the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii seronegative pregnant women, estimate the frequency of fetuses at risk of congenital toxoplasmosis in the study area, and also to investigate the awareness of the studied mothers about T. gondii disease. Methods: A total of 740 pregnant women referred to two health centers in Qazvin province were surveyed voluntarily for anti-T. gondii IgG and IgM antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). IgG avidity test was used as a confirmatory test for samples showing positive or borderline results for IgM antibodies. Data on socioeconomic, demographic, and knowledge of participants about toxoplasmosis were collected using questionnaires and through face-to-face interviews. Multivariable logistic regression modeling was used to identify the potential predictor variables for T. gondii infection. Results: Overall, 21.2% (157/740) and 0.27% (2/740) of pregnant women were positive for T. gondii IgG and IgM antibodies, respectively. Only 1.7% (13/740) of expectant mothers had prior information on toxoplasmosis. Among socioeconomic and demographic variables, contact with soil was the merely cause of a significant association with T. gondii infection. Other variables including age, occupation, education level, residential area, source of drinking water, abortion history, number of delivery, consumption of raw/undercooked meat, having home cat and and consumption of raw vegetables failed to establish significant associations. Conclusion: Our results clarified that the prevalence of T. gondii has remarkably reduced in the study area. This finding indicates a low risk of congenital toxoplasmosis in this region. Coexistence of follicular epithelial and bilateral parafollicular cells derivative of carcinomas in the setting of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and multinodular goiter is a very rare event. Of course, all benign and malignant thyroid lesions are more prevalent in iodine deficient areas. It seems that the context for identifying the pathways influencing thyroid carcinogenesis especially coincidence form has not yet been fully understood and needs further investigation. Here, we present a case with the synchronous occurrence of papillary thyroid carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma in the setting of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and multinodular goiter. A 54-year-old woman complained of a painless mass in the anterior region of the neck. The physical examination of the patient revealed multiple nodules in her thyroid gland. In ultrasound findings, she presented with thyroid enlargement associated with multiple isoechoic and hypoechoic nodules in both lobes. Thyroid fine needle aspiration results suggested a diagnosis of medullary thyroid carcinoma in the setting of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and multinodular goiter. The frozen sections, permanent sampling, and IHC examination showed the coexistence of papillary thyroid carcinoma with bilateral medullary thyroid carcinoma in the setting of Hashimoto's disease and multinodular goiter. Studies debated about the risk factors of these pathologies including the same environmental issues or mutations in genomes and they emphasized surgeons should be aware of these lesions for diagnosis and interventional treatments. Following up the Hashimoto's thyroiditis and multinodular goiter is required for detection of occult malignancies, and hence the proper management and treatment should be performed.
