Objetivo: La diverticulitis aguda (DA) es una inflamación de la pared intestinal peridiverticular y de los tejidos adyacentes, que presenta una variabilidad en su presentación clínica y posibles complicaciones. La clasificación de Hinchey se utiliza para definir opciones terapéuticas en función de la gravedad de la enfermedad. Recientemente se ha investigado el potencial de los marcadores inflamatorios, como los índices neutrófilos-linfocitos (INL) y plaquetas-linfocitos (IPL), en la estratificación de los pacientes con DA. Evaluar la utilidad pronóstica del INL y el IPL en la gravedad de la diverticulitis complicada y relacionar estos marcadores con la clasificación tomográfica de Hinchey. Método: Estudio retrospectivo con 58 pacientes diagnosticados con DA entre enero de 2021 y enero de 2023. Se recopilaron datos clínicos, demográficos y bioquímicos, incluyendo INL e IPL. Se realizaron análisis estadísticos y se establecieron puntos de corte óptimos para estos índices. Resultados: Se encontró una correlación significativa entre la gravedad de la enfermedad según la escala de Hinchey y el INL (r = 0.38; p < 0.001) y el IPL (r = 0.35; p < 0.001). Se identificaron puntos de corte óptimos con alta sensibilidad y especificidad para diferenciar entre DA complicada y no complicada (INL > 10 e IPL > 219). Conclusiones: El INL y el IPL podrían ser herramientas valiosas en la evaluación clínica de la DA, permitiendo una intervención temprana y personalizada. Investigaciones futuras podrían ajustar los puntos de corte y validar su aplicabilidad en diferentes contextos y poblaciones, mejorando la toma de decisiones médicas y la gestión de la DA.

Objetivo: El cáncer colorrectal (CCR) figura como la tercera neoplasia más frecuente a nivel mundial. Sin embargo, la atención médica de esta enfermedad se vio interrumpida durante la pandemia de COVID-19, lo que ocasionó retrasos en el diagnóstico y tratamiento del CCR. En este contexto, es de suma importancia evaluar el impacto que la emergencia sanitaria tuvo en las características clínicas y los resultados de la cirugía en pacientes con CCR. Describir de manera detallada las características clínicas y los resultados de la cirugía en pacientes diagnosticados con CCR después de que la atención hospitalaria se regularizó tras la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: Se llevó a cabo un análisis de 109 pacientes consecutivos con CCR que fueron tratados en el Servicio de Coloproctología del Hospital General de México Dr. Eduardo Liceaga entre abril de 2022 y marzo de 2023. Se recopilaron datos demográficos, información sobre comorbilidades, localización del tumor, estadio clínico, detalles sobre el tratamiento quirúrgico y registros de complicaciones postoperatorias. Resultados: En nuestra cohorte de pacientes se registró la participación de 55 hombres (50.5%) y la edad promedio se situó en 58 años, con una desviación estándar de 12.49 años. Destacamos un aumento significativo en la detección de pacientes en estadios avanzados (estadios III-IV) de la enfermedad durante el periodo de estudio. Las localizaciones tumorales más frecuentes fueron el recto (53.2%) y el colon izquierdo (22.9%), mientras que el estadio clínico IV (46.8%) prevaleció en la mayoría de los casos. En cuanto a los procedimientos quirúrgicos, la resección anterior baja se erigió como el más frecuentemente realizado (12.8%) y se identificaron complicaciones postoperatorias en el 13.2% de los pacientes. Conclusiones: Después de la pandemia de COVID-19, hemos observado un aumento en los casos de CCR en etapas avanzadas, lo que destaca la necesidad de mantener el acceso a servicios de detección y tratamiento incluso en emergencias sanitarias. Las consecuencias a largo plazo de la pandemia siguen siendo inciertas y podrían tener un impacto duradero en la salud.

Objetivo: La colitis ulcerosa crónica idiopática (CUCI) se caracteriza por la inflamación de la mucosa colónica con periodos intermitentes de remisión y exacerbación de los síntomas. Se ha observado que el fibrinógeno desempeña un papel proinflamatorio en la CUCI y se ha sugerido como un posible biomarcador para detectar la actividad de la enfermedad. Evaluar los niveles de fibrinógeno y su relación con la gravedad de la enfermedad en pacientes con CUCI. Método: Se llevó a cabo un estudio transversal, de naturaleza relacional y analítica, que incluyó a 69 pacientes con diagnóstico de colitis ulcerosa. Se recopilaron datos demográficos, clínicos, bioquímicos, endoscópicos e histológicos de cada paciente. La actividad de la CUCI se evaluó utilizando las escalas de Truelove y Witts, el sub-score de Mayo y el índice histológico de Riley. Se midieron los niveles de fibrinógeno en todos los participantes. El análisis estadístico se realizó utilizando el paquete SPSS versión 26 para examinar la correlación entre los diferentes índices de actividad y los niveles de fibrinógeno. Resultados: Se encontró una correlación positiva significativa entre los niveles de fibrinógeno y la gravedad clínica (r: 0.25; p = 0.03), la gravedad endoscópica (r: 0.28; p = 0.01) y la gravedad histológica (r: 0.32; p < 0.001) de la enfermedad. Por medio del análisis de la curva ROC se estableció un punto de corte para el fibrinógeno de 335 mg/dl, que demostró una sensibilidad del 70%, una especificidad del 70%, un valor predictivo positivo del 62% y un valor predictivo negativo del 66%. Además, este valor de fibrinógeno se asoció significativamente con un mayor riesgo de presentar gravedad histológica moderada a severa en los pacientes con colitis ulcerosa (OR: 3.09; IC95%: 1.15-8.27; p = 0.02). Conclusiones: Nuestros hallazgos respaldan la utilidad del fibrinógeno como biomarcador para evaluar tanto la actividad como la gravedad de la CUCI.

Las infecciones asociadas al cuidado de la salud han sido y siguen siendo un problema extremadamente frecuente en la práctica de la medicina, haciendo del uso de bata y uniforme un tema de debate por su posible involucro dentro de la patogenia de estas. Se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva en la base de datos PubMed utilizando términos relacionados y se revisaron y analizaron los artículos seleccionados para extraer información relevante sobre la transmisión de infecciones. Se destaca la contaminación y falta de higiene de batas, sobre todo los bolsillos y las mangas de médicos residentes, planteando interrogantes sobre su papel como vectores activos de infección. Los microorganismos más comúnmente aislados son Staphylococcus aureus, estafilococos coagulasa negativos y Enterococcus faecalis, en sitios de la ropa como los bolsillos y mangas de las batas, corbatas y moños. El debate se centra en la conexión directa entre la contaminación de la ropa médica y las infecciones intrahospitalarias. Se sugiere que la ropa actúa como fómite, aunque el impacto se subestima. Aunque no hay evidencia irrefutable que demuestre que los uniformes médicos sean vectores activos de infecciones, es imperativo minimizar riesgos y considerar alternativas que prioricen la salud.

La coexistencia de colitis ulcerativa crónica idiopática (CUCI) y la infección por el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) es un fenómeno poco común que involucra una compleja interacción entre la respuesta inmunitaria del colon y la inmunosupresión causada por el VIH. Estudios previos han generado resultados contradictorios sobre el impacto de esta coinfección en el curso de la CUCI. Este estudio retrospectivo y descriptivo tiene como objetivo analizar las características clínicas de tres pacientes con CUCI e infección por VIH tratados en la Clínica de Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal del Hospital General de México Dr. Eduardo Liceaga. Nuestros resultados muestran que los tres pacientes con coexistencia de CUCI y VIH experimentaron el inicio de la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal (EII) de manera temprana en sus vidas. La CUCI fue la primera en manifestarse en la mayoría de los casos. Además, en dos de los pacientes el diagnóstico de VIH se realizó durante un periodo de recaída de la CUCI o cuando se evidenció una falta de respuesta al tratamiento convencional para la CUCI, lo que llevó a considerar la opción de iniciar una terapia biológica. Las características clínicas, bioquímicas, endoscópicas e histológicas presentaron una notable heterogeneidad entre los pacientes. Nuestros resultados sugieren una compleja interacción entre la CUCI y el VIH, lo que plantea interrogantes sobre la relación entre ambas condiciones y el momento adecuado para la detección del VIH en pacientes con EII. Además, resaltan la importancia de un enfoque integral en el manejo de estos pacientes con el objetivo de mejorar su calidad de vida.

La lesión intraepitelial escamosa anal (ASIL) es una condición premaligna que precede al carcinoma de células escamosas (SCC) en el ano. La infección por el virus del papiloma humano (VPH) se considera un factor de riesgo importante en su desarrollo, y la detección temprana mediante anoscopia de alta resolución (HRA) puede ser crucial para prevenir su progresión. La detección precoz de lesiones premalignas como ASIL en pacientes con enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal bajo terapia inmunosupresora es un área de investigación importante y poco estudiada. Presentamos el caso de un hombre de 29 años con colitis ulcerosa crónica idiopática que recibía tratamiento con anti-factor de necrosis tumoral y ácido 5-aminosalicílico. Durante su seguimiento médico, se identificó una úlcera anal crónica que requirió dos intervenciones quirúrgicas en 2021 y 2022, con hallazgos histopatológicos que confirmaron la presencia de ASIL de bajo grado. En enero de 2023 se sometió a una HRA que reveló la presencia de células escamosas atípicas de significado indeterminado, lo que llevó a la realización de una electrofulguración de las lesiones sospechosas de infección por VPH. Aunque la prevalencia exacta de ASIL/SCC en este grupo de pacientes aún no se conoce, la HRA desempeña un papel relevante en su identificación oportuna. Se necesitan estudios adicionales para comprender mejor cómo la terapia inmunosupresora puede influir en la progresión de estas lesiones y para establecer pautas precisas de detección y manejo.

Traditional culture and values are the axiological foundation of states. Folk culture and folklore can be considered the cornerstone of national heritage. This article analyses the actions taken by UNESCO which contributed to the crystallisation of a multilateral international agreement that, for the first time in history, covered the conservation of intangible cultural heritage. The article’s main research hypothesis is the statement that cultural heritage is an axiological mirror of civilisation, as well as the basis for the existence and development of society. This is connected with a more detailed thesis that the intangible manifestations of culture are the source of living heritage of humanity and carriers of values. Since cultural heritage encompasses manifestations of various cultures’ activities and creativity, the comparative method was also used. The research findings show that supporting cultural diversity plays an important role in building interpersonal solidarity in the spirit of dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation. Respect for intangible cultural heritage is a guarantee of peace and security internally and from an international perspective.

Zanieczyszczenie środowiska na skalę globalną, w szybkim tempie zwiększająca się degradacja ekosystemów i bioróżnorodności skłaniają do poszukiwania skuteczniejszych mechanizmów ochrony. W rozważaniach zostanie przedstawiona nowatorska koncepcja godności zwierząt wprowadzona na gruncie prawa szwajcarskiego. W celu omówienia norm wywodzących się z odmiennych uwarunkowań ustrojowo-prawnych posłużono się metodą komparatystyczną, która dopełnia analizę o charakterze dogmatycznym. W rozważaniach wykazano, że zwierzęta odznaczają się wartością, która łączy zarówno wymiar ontologiczny, jak i aksjologiczny istnienia. Na gruncie prawa szwajcarskiego koncepcja godności zwierząt znajduje zastosowanie do bioinżynierii i badań genetycznych. Ze względu na uniwersalną wymowę w niniejszym artykule postuluje się szerszy sposób pojmowania koncepcji godności zwierząt, wykraczającej poza badania laboratoryjne.

Agricultural crop production practices are being developed for organic, sustainable, and environmentally friendly farming systems. Developing efficient and resourceful crop fertilizers is significantly important for future agriculture. Various biofertilizers, such as animal manures, composts, and vegetable byproducts, have been successfully applied in agriculture. Anaerobic digestate, organic matter obtained from animal or plant waste processing during anaerobic digestion into biomass, has become popular due to its versatility, multiple purposes, and facile application methods. Digestate has recently been widely used in agriculture to enrich the soil with nutrients and thus increase crop yields. Several studies have shown that anaerobic digestate is a valuable fertilizer that can be used as a biofertilizer in field and greenhouse horticulture. Also, research has been carried out on the use of digestate in hydroponic horticulture. This review presents the research results and discusses the possibilities of using anaerobic digestate in greenhouse horticulture. Its objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the application of digestate from various sources and its impact on the growth, progress, yield, and quality of greenhouse-grown vegetables.

This paper aims to clarify the principles of Jordanian and Polish copyright laws applicable to the preservation of cultural heritage, and to recommend the adoption of certain policies to facilitate this task. It is meant to serve as a guide for stakeholders who deal with digital cultural heritage, directed particularly at museums, but also institutions such as libraries, archives, and art galleries. The research aims to discuss the role of copyright law in protecting cultural heritage in the face of the rapid development of ICT technologies. This includes identifying the risks and challenges associated with digital heritage, framing the relationship between authors of digital cultural content, rights holders, and institutions responsible for documenting and preserving it, and the need to establish a fair mechanism that guarantees their rights. The study aims to provide a presentation of the importance of compliance with copyright principles related to the digitization of cultural heritage and other relevant regulations in the Jordan region and the Polish legislation. The article was created as a result of international scientific cooperation in combination with an innovative view at the law-making and application processes in the era of dynamic development of science and technology. The analysis will include identification of legal acts, which aim to ensure the effective, future-oriented, and long-term protection of cultural heritage in Jordan and Poland.

Amorphous and crystalline thin films of Mn-doped (0.5%-10%) GaAs and crystalline thin films of [Zn.sub.1-x][Co.sub.x]O(x = 3%-20%) were investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility and electron spin resonance (ESR). For the Mn-doped GaAs samples, our results show the absence of ferromagnetic ordering for the amorphous films in the 300 > T > 2 K temperature range, in contrast to the ferromagnetism found in crystalline films for [T.sub.c] < 110 K. A single ESR line with a temperature independent g-value (g ~ 2) is observed for the amorphous films, and the behavior of this ESR linewidth depends on the level of crystallinity of the film. For the Mn-doped GaAs crystalline films, only a ferromagnetic mode is observed for T < [T.sub.c] when the film is ferromagnetic. Turning now the [Zn.sub.1-x][Co.sub.x]O films, ferromagnetic loops were observed at room temperature for these films. The magnetization data show an increasing of the saturation magnetization [M.sub.s] as a function of x reaching a maximum value for x [approximately equal to] 10%. ESR experiments at T = 300 K in the same films show a strong anisotropic ferromagnetic mode (FMR) for x = 0.10. Pressure and temperature dependent Raman scattering studies on Ho2O3 have been carried out to investigate the structural transition and the anharmonic behavior of the phonons. Ho2O3 undergoes a transition from cubic to monoclinic phase above 15.5 GPa, which is partially reversible on decompression. The anharmonic behavior of the phonon modes of Ho2O3 from 80K to 440K has been investigated. We find an anomalous line-width change with temperature. The mode Grüneisen parameter of bulk Ho2O3 was estimated from high pressure Raman investigation up to 29 GPa. Furthermore, the anharmonic components were calculated from the temperature dependent Raman scattering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anaerobic digestate has been commonly used for the cultivation of vegetable seedlings and as one of the measures for improving peat substrate. Studies have shown that there has been further research conducted on the effect of anaerobic digestate on greenhouse vegetable seedlings. The main objective was to investigate the effect of the additional insertion of different rates of solid grain waste digestate into peat substrate on tomato seedling quality. The results showed that 10% of solid grain waste digestate (peat digestate) application with transplanted seedlings had better biometrical measures and photosynthetic parameters for tomato seedlings compared with the control variant.

The paper discusses innovative legal regulations that may contribute to increasing standards ofenvironmental protection. In the face of increasing nature degradation and climate change, current protection measures are insufficient. The dysfunction of the political system, international institutionalisation, and existing legal regulations, result in the strengthening of the global economy instead of increasing the extent of activities aimedattheprotection of nature. It is argued that the concept of natural law, which focuses on the protection of human rights, is not the same as the rights of nature. However, the analysis of the origins and axiological and legal assumptions of boththese concepts allows us to formulate the conclusion that both can form a common ethical perspective needed in order to protect the community of life on Earth. The aim of the considerations is to discuss the concept of the rights of nature, which are the basis for shaping the new environmental ethics. Appealing to common axioms, the idea of the rights of nature favours overcoming the limitations resulting from property law and the currently dominant economic and utilitarian factors. The paper arguesthat the environmentally-profiled rights of nature can become an ally in environmental protection.

Room temperature ferromagnetism is observed in Zn1-xCuxO (x=0.01, 0.03, and 0.05) thin films grown on Al2O3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique. Raman scattering and high resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses confirm the substitution of Cu up to 3% in ZnO host lattice, and the films are nearly single crystalline. Optical transmission and photoluminescence (PL) analyses provide evidence of sp-d exchange interaction in Zn1-xCuxO thin films; the p-d exchange interaction may explain the observed room temperature ferromagnetism in Zn1-xCuxO thin films. Room temperature PL shows the green emission (∼2.60 eV) in Cu doped ZnO samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plants are an integral part of the living organism of nature. Protection of plant biodiversity is essential to ensure the health of ecosystems. The natural world is characterised by cyclical and mutually complementary processes. If the self-regenerative capacity of nature is disturbed, it results in a breach of the biological balance in the ecosystem and the human environment of life. The rapid degradation of natural habitats prompts one to analyse the existing plant protection mechanism. This paper will analyse environmental regulations and standards, which may be the basis for reforming protection programmes.
