Background: To provide recommendations based on the best available scientific evidence for the multidisciplinary management of febrile neutropenia. The development included the stages: approval of the creation of the Working Group (WG); CPG search; analysis and synthesis of the evidence that led to establishing the recommendation of the selected CPGs, design of the consensus document, internal review. All phases were carried out through panel meetings using virtual platforms during 03 months. The “GRADE” system was used to establish the strength and direction of the recommendations. The recommendations cover the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of febrile neutropenia in oncohematological patients. Twenty-eight recommendations were developed. The topics approached were: correct evaluation; timely diagnosis, adequate antibiotic treatment, vaccination against influenza and pneumococcus, administration of colony-stimulating factor and special management of pediatric patients for diagnosis, treatment. Introducción: Brindar recomendaciones basadas en la mejor evidencia científica disponible para el manejo multidisciplinario de la neutropenia febril. El desarrollo abarco las etapas: aprobación de la conformación del Grupo Elaborador (GE); búsqueda de GPC; análisis y síntesis de la evidencia que llevó al establecimiento de la recomendación de las GPC seleccionadas, diseño del documento consenso, revisión interna. Todas las fases fueron llevadas a cabo mediante reuniones de panel a través del uso de plataformas virtuales durante 03 meses. Se utilizó el sistema “GRADE” para establecer la fuerza y dirección de las recomendaciones. Las recomendaciones abarcan la prevención, el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la neutropenia febril en pacientes oncohematológicos. Se formularon 28 recomendaciones. Los temas abordados han sido relacionados a: correcta evaluación; diagnóstico oportuno, tratamiento antibiótico adecuado, vacunación contra influenza y neumococo, administración de factor estimulante de colonias y manejo especial en pacientes pediátricos para diagnóstico, tratamiento.

A bibliometric study was carried out to describe the scientific production on cancer written by peruvians and published in international health journals, as well as to assess the scientific collaboration networks. It included articles on cancer written in Peru between the years 2000 and 2011 and published in health journals indexed in SCOPUS or Science Citation Index Expanded. In the 358 articles identified, an increase in the production was seen, from 4 articles in 2000 to 57 in 2011.The most studied types were cervical cancer (77 publications); breast cancer (53), and gastric cancer (37). The National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) was the most productive institution (121 articles) and had the highest number of collaborations (180 different institutions). 52 clinical trials were identified, 29 of which had at least one author from INEN. We can conclude that, cancer research is increasing in Peru, the INEN being the most productive institution, with an important participation in clinical trials.

Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico para describir la producción científica peruana en cáncer en revistas de visibilidad internacional, y evaluar las redes de colaboración científica. Se incluyó los artículos publicados sobre cáncer hechos en Perú en el periodo 2000 a 2011 en revistas indizadas en SCOPUS o Science Citation Index Expanded. Se identificaron 358 artículos, evidenciándose un incremento en la producción de cuatro artículos en el 2000 a 57 en el 2011. Los cánceres más estudiados fueron los de cuello uterino (77 publicaciones); mama (53), y estómago (37). El Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) fue la institución más productiva (121 artículos) y con mayor número de colaboraciones (180 instituciones distintas). Se identificaron 52 ensayos clínicos, 29 con al menos un autor del INEN. En conclusión, la investigación en cáncer en Perú se está incrementando, el INEN es la institución más productiva, con importante participación en ensayos clínicos.

En el presente artículo original se describen y comentan los datos aportados por un grupo de oncohematólogos, acerca del uso actual de los recursos sanitarios para el tratamiento de la leucemia mieloide crónica y de los eventos adversos relacionados con ésta, en Perú. Mediante la técnica de consenso Mini Delphi, los panelistas lograron elevado grado de acuerdo sobre los temas de interés.Amodo de síntesis, se observó distribución de los recursos generales disponibles acorde con las necesidades de cada fase de la leucemia y en adhesión a las pautas terapéuticas internacionales, aunque se detectaron algunas instancias que podrían optimizarse. Resultó evidente la notable disminución de la realización de trasplantes de médula ósea, en Perú. Esta información puede constituir un punto de partida para futuros estudios adicionales en el contexto de la práctica clínica en Latinoamérica. Además, aplicada a modelos farmacoeconómicos apropiados, los datos podrían agilizar la toma de decisiones acorde a la realidad local, por parte de los distintos responsables de los sistemas de salud, para permitir a los enfermos con LMC acceder a las opciones terapéuticas más ventajosas y, aún más trascendente, mejorar su calidad de vida y supervivencia. This original article details and discusses the information provided by a group of hematologists, about the current use of health resources in the management of chronic myeloid leukemia and its treatmentrelated adverse events in Peru. By applying the Mini Delphi consensus technique, a high degree of agreement about the issues of interest was reached among the faculty. To summarize, although it was noticed that the allocation of health resources matches the requirement for each phase in the management of leukemia and it adheres to international guidelines, some topics that could be optimized were identified. A remarkable reduction of bone marrow transplant procedures was evident. These data may represent a starting point for further studies in the clinical practice setting in Latin America. Moreover, using appropriate pharmacoeconomic models, the information obtained may speed up the decision making process according to the local circumstances by those responsible for sanitary assistance, allowing patients with CML to reach the most convenient therapeutic options and, more importantly, improving their quality of life and survival.
