Background and Aims: The quality of reports plays a crucial role in patient care. Statistics reveal instances of negligence in patient care due to ineffective reporting by nurses, underscoring the need for enhanced efforts in nursing student education. Given the variety of methods available for teaching report writing, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of workshop and virtual training approaches in improving the quality of report writing among nursing students at Birjand University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This interventional study involved 111 nursing students from Birjand, randomly allocated into three groups of virtual training (n=36), workshop training (n=36), and control (n=39). For students in the workshop training group, educational content was delivered through a workshop comprising three 4-hour sessions covering six topics. For the virtual training group, educational material was provided as text, audio, and visual files via Telegram over one week (six days dedicated to training and one day for summarizing the content) and sent to students daily at specified times. The status of students' report writing skills was assessed before and after the intervention (immediately and two weeks post-training). Results: The mean score for report writing quality immediately after the completion of the workshop training program was 91.4 ± 58.80 in the workshop training group, significantly higher than that in the other groups studied. Moreover, the mean score for report writing quality two weeks after completing the training program in the workshop training group was 16.5 ± 91.78, significantly higher than that in the other two groups. Background: The emergence of the Internet and its development led to the expansion of virtual education. The development of virtual education in recent years has had a tremendous impact on the improvement of education and the establishment of educational justice in different parts of the world. Despite its advantages, virtual education is also associated with some challenges. The present study aimed to investigate para medicine students’ experiences of virtual education.Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using conventional content analysis. The participants were 25 students in various fields of para medicine who were selected using purposive sampling. The study took place at universities in the north of Iran. The data were collected using semi-structured in-depth interviews and focus groups from January to April 2022. The collected data were analyzed using Graneheim and Lundman’s qualitative content analysis method.Results: The core category identified in this study was from helplessness to interaction which was divided into three main categories (challenges and desperation, deprivation of mutual interaction and learning, and resilience and adaptation) and fourteen subcategories.Conclusion: The main theme extracted from the interviews with the participants was from helplessness to interaction. When a person has numerous failures, cannot control environmental conditions, and feels the ineffectiveness of their activity and response, they will experience a sense of vulnerability. Thus, the person has to accept the conditions and interact with them. In other words, interaction is a skill that improves the ability to quickly learn new skills and behaviors in response to the conditions. Thus, identifying challenges and realizing the weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, and threats governing the existing virtual education environment can help to turn many threats into opportunities, promote virtual education, and support teachers and students to improve the quality and quantity of the teaching-learning process in the COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 era.

Background: Respecting the human dignity of patients is one of the most important ethical requirements of the medical and nursing profession. Respect for dignity in all patients, especially in patients with breast cancer, is important because of the profound and lasting effects of this disease on patients. This study aimed to understand the perspective of patients with breast cancer on the concept of patient dignity from June 2020 to December 2020 in Iran Mehr Hospital (Radiotherapy and Oncology Center) in Birjand. Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The data were saturated after interviewing 16 patients with breast cancer who were selected using purposive sampling from June 2020 to December 2020. The main interview question was, “What does ‘dignity’ mean to you based on your experiences during your time with cancer?” The data elicited from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis via MAXQDA 2012 software.Results: Analysis of the patients’ statements and experiences of maintaining dignity revealed three main themes. The first main theme was respect for human values, which included the subthemes of personal privacy, avoiding curiosity, confidentiality of information, and use of same-sex caregivers. The second main theme was psychological support, which included the subthemes of spousal and family empathy and support, understanding the patient’s concerns and preoccupations, resentment of pity, and disclosing cancer diagnosis. The third main theme was socioeconomic support, which included the subthemes of spousal and family financial support, financial aid by support organizations, and community awareness.Conclusion: Receiving care by respecting dignity is the right of every patient. Since patients with cancer are more vulnerable, it can be argued that maintaining the dignity of these patients is more important than other patients due to the nature of the disease and the long-term involvement of patients with the disease.

Abstract Background Acceptance is considered a key variable in chronic diseases such as chronic renal failure. To achieve adaptation and acceptance, people face obstacles, and identifying these obstacles primarily requires self-awareness. logo-therapy can help a person achieve this goal. To this end, this study aimed to investigate the effect of logo-therapy on disease acceptance and self-awareness of patients undergoing hemodialysis referred to a medical centers supervised by Kerman medical science university in 2021. Methods This quasi-experimental study was conducted with a pre-test-post-test research design on 80 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis in Kerman. The patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected using convenience sampling and were then randomly assigned to intervention and control groups (40 patients in each group). The logo-therapy training program was performed for the participants in the intervention group during 4 sessions of 45–60 min, individually and three times a week. The instruments used for data collection were a demographic information questionnaire, the Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS), and the Self-Awareness Outcomes Questionnaire (SAOQ). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 22). Results The analysis didn’t show a significant difference in the acceptance of illness scores in the intervention group before and after the intervention (P > 0.05). Besides, a statistically significant difference was observed between the intervention and control groups in terms of self-awareness, indicating that the intervention improved the dialysis patients’ self-awareness (P

Abstract Background Medical care that has therapeutic effects without significant benefits for the patient is called futile care. Intensive Care Units are the most important units in which nurses provide futile care. This study aimed to explain the causes of futile care from the perspective of nurses working in Intensive Care Units are. Method The study was conducted using a qualitative approach. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the data. Study participants were 17 nurses who were working in the Intensive Care Units are of hospitals in the north of Iran. They were recruited through a purposeful sampling method. Data was gathered using in-depth, semi-structured interviews from March to June 2021. Recruitment was continued until data saturation was reached. Results Two main themes, four categories, and thirteen subcategories emerged from the data analysis. The main themes were principlism and caring swamp. The categories were moral foundation, professionalism, compulsory care, and patient’s characteristics. Conclusion In general, futile care has challenged nursing staff with complex conflicts. By identifying some of these conflicts, nurses will be able to control such situations and plan for better management strategies. Also, using the findings of this study, nursing managers can adopt supportive strategies to reduce the amount of futile care and thus solve the specific problems of nurses in intensive care units such as burnout, moral stress, and intention to leave.

Background: Respect for human dignity has been the focus of various studies on patients’ health and treatment. Despite the increasing number of cancer patients, to date, the dimensions of dignity have not been fully identified for this group. This study was conducted with the aim of the development and psychometrics evaluation of a dignity assessment questionnaire for Iranian cancer patients. Method: This mixed-method design with a sequential exploratory approach was conducted in Iran. In the first phase, a purposive sampling method was used to recruit the participants and the sampling continued until data saturation. The data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews. In the second phase, the validity and reliability of this instrument were assessed among 300 cancer patients. Results: The dignity assessment questionnaire for cancer patients included four domains and 27 items. The domains of the questionnaire were “the performance of the treatment team”, “respect for patients’ personal space”, “family support”, and “adequate equipment and facilities”. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and the split-half method. To confirm the stability, test-retest was utilized and the result of the interclass correlation coefficient for the entire questionnaire was 0.94. Conclusion: A dignity assessment questionnaire has been developed based on the perception and understanding of cancer patients, their family caregivers, and oncology nurses. The findings of the present study could help healthcare providers to implement a scheme with the aim of strengthening support for and better treatment and care of cancer patients.

Background: Hospitalization in cardiac intensive care units is always associated with negative consequences such as anxiety for patients. Since the family plays a vital role in the care of hospitalized patients, its positive effects are still questionable.Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of patient companion programmed participation in primary nursing care on anxiety among patients in the cardiac intensive care unit.Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research with pre-and post-test design with a control group. The study population consisted of all eligible patients admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit of Razi Hospital in Birjand, Iran. A total of 48 patients was selected in a control (24) and intervention groups (24) through stratified block randomization with a block size of 4 patients. The patients’ companions in the intervention group were allowed to attend the patients as planned for 3 days of 30 minutes and contribute to their clinical primary care. In the control group, the visit was still prohibited. Anxiety was measured in both groups at the beginning and on the third day of the patient’s admission using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 16).Results: The results indicated that anxiety reduced in both groups 3 days after hospitalization, however, this reduction was statistically more significant in the intervention group (p=0.001). The anxiety score in the control group before and after the intervention was not significantly different (P=0.56). but anxiety score in the intervention group before intervention was 56.29±16.79 which decreased to 46.43± 12.32 after the intervention and paired t-test showed a significant difference (P=0.01).Implications for Practice: The supportive presence of a patient’s companion in the cardiac intensive care unit significantly reduces patients' anxiety. Therefore, it is recommended to use the programmed presence and participation of the patient’s companion as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce patients' anxiety by reviewing the sessions.

Background: The necessity of nurses’ cultural awareness in the caring process has been emphasized; however, there is a need to define this concept clearly; so the aim of this study was to clarify the cultural awareness concept in the nursing context. Methods: in this qualitative study, a concept analysis using 6-steps Rodgers’s evolutionary method (Determining the intended concept and the related terms, selecting the appropriate domain for data gathering, determine attributes, antecedents, and consequences of the concept, data analysis, stating examples and generate a hypothesis) was adopted based on thematic analysis. The articles published in English and Persian language from 2005 to 2019 were searched and then analyzed. Results: The 6 attributes of cultural awareness include “being a prerequisite to cultural competence, a dynamic and progressive process; having learning potential; being multidimensional; and including self-awareness and awareness about the service user”. Antecedents for cultural awareness consist of global diversity, cultural teaching, developing cultural skills, cultural immersion, and organizations supporting cultural awareness, and researches. Cultural competence or effectiveness, constructive intercultural interaction, and improvement of health outcomes are the consequences of cultural awareness. A definition of cultural awareness was proposed. Conclusion: In todaychr('39')s global diversity, providing suitable infrastructure (including cultural teaching, development, immersion, and researches) can lead to cultural awareness that is a dynamic multidimensional process of self and service user awareness that causes constructive intercultural interaction, cultural competence, and improvement of health outcomes. So, it is suggested to providing the infrastructures and do more studies related to the development of this concept.

Background: The emergence of this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now a public health crisis that leads to various challenges. There is a significant scientific gap in this field, including the necessity of updating the definitions and information about this disease. This disease causes a lot of physical and psychological problems and leads to changes in and reduced quality of life. However, one of the definitive pieces of data about this disease is human-to-human transmission and its very high prevalence, which itself carries certain social and psychological risks. Aim: This study aimed to explore patients' experiences of living with COVID-19. Method: The present qualitative study was conducted based on a conventional content analysis method. The statistical population of this study (n=17) consisted of recovered patients from COVID-19 with a history of admission to the intensive care unit of Afzalipour Hospital in Kerman, Iran, selected using a purposive sampling method. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method proposed by Graneheim and Lundman. Results: Data collection and analysis led to the determination of 1 theme, 4 categories, and 18 subcategories. The theme was identified as "Coronavirus as a prison of time" and the categories were "behavioral challenges", "human flourishing", negative emotions", and "psychological distress in quarantine". Implications for Practice: Study participants had both positive and negative experiences. The results of this study can help healthcare providers to identify the needs of these patients and design a care model for these patients
