Objetivo: Identificar la incidencia de eventos cardiovasculares adversos mayores (ECAM) intrahospitalarios con el uso de tromboaspiración mecánica más inhibidores de la glucoproteína IIb/IIIa contra solo inhibidores de la glucoproteína IIb/IIIa en pacientes con infarto agudo al miocardio con elevación del segmento ST (IAMCEST). Método: Estudio retrospectivo, observacional, analítico, de cohorte, en pacientes con IAMCEST con trombo angiográfico de grado TIMI 5, tratados entre octubre de 2021 y diciembre de 2022. Resultados: Cumplieron los criterios de inclusión 237 pacientes. En 113 se usó tromboaspirador más inhibidores IIb/IIIa y en 124 solo inhibidores IIb/IIIa. El 81.6% fueron hombres. La incidencia de ECAM intrahospitalarios fue del 31.9% en los pacientes con tromboaspiración y del 30.6% en los pacientes con solo inhibidores IIb/IIIa (RR: 1.05; IC95%: 0.61-1.93; p = 0.840). La incidencia de arritmias graves fue del 8% en los pacientes con tromboaspiración y del 1.6% en los pacientes con solo inhibidores IIb/IIIa (RR: 5.27; IC95%: 1.11-24.97; p = 0.020). Conclusiones: La frecuencia de ECAM asociados al uso de tromboaspiración mecánica como coadyuvante a los inhibidores de la glucoproteína IIb/IIIa en pacientes con IAMCEST y trombo angiográfico de grado TIMI 5 no es diferente de la de aquellos pacientes en las que solo se utilizan inhibidores de la glucoproteína IIb/IIa. El estudio tiene varias limitaciones, por lo que los resultados deben tomarse con cautela.

Globin-coupled sensors (GCS) usually consist of three domains: a sensor/globin, a linker, and a transmitter domain. The globin domain (GD), activated by ligand binding and/or redox change, induces an intramolecular signal transduction resulting in a response of the transmitter domain. Depending on the nature of the transmitter domain, GCSs can have different activities and functions, including adenylate and di-guanylate cyclase, histidine kinase activity, aerotaxis and/or oxygen sensing function.The gram-negative delta-proteobacterium Geobacter sulfurreducens expresses a protein with a GD covalently linked to a four transmembrane domain, classified, by sequence similarity, as GCS (GsGCS). While its GD is fully characterized, not so its transmembrane domain, which is rarely found in the globin superfamily.In the present work, GsGCS was characterized spectroscopically and by native ion mobility-mass spectrometry in combination with cryo-electron microscopy. Although lacking high resolution, the oligomeric state and the electron density map were valuable for further rational modeling of the full-length GsGCS structure. This model demonstrates that GsGCS forms a transmembrane domain-driven tetramer with minimal contact between the GDs and with the heme groups oriented outward. This organization makes an intramolecular signal transduction less likely.Our results, including the auto-oxidation rate and redox potential, suggest a potential role for GsGCS as redox sensor or in a membrane-bound e−/H+ transfer. As such, GsGCS might act as a player in connecting energy production to the oxidation of organic compounds and metal reduction.Database searches indicate that GDs linked to a four or seven helices transmembrane domain occur more frequently than expected.

The secondary structure of miRNA precursor sequences is known to affect processing by DICER-like proteins. Here Rojas et al. show that additional sequence features also play a regulatory role in plants with nucleotide identity at unpaired positions substantially impacting processing efficiency.

In this work, stability and degradation of inverted organic solar cells (iOSCs) partially manufactured under air environment are analyzed. The degradation of iOSCs fabricated with inkjet printed ZnO and with spin coated PFN as electron transport layer (ETL) is compared. The PTB7 and PC70BM materials are used as donor and acceptor in the active layer, respectively, for all photovoltaic devices. During all the degradation study of the iOSCs, performance parameters such as open circuit voltage (VOC), short circuit current density (JSC), fill factor (FF) and Power conversion efficiency (PCE), are extracted from the current density - voltage measurements (J-V) under dark and light conditions. The PCE of the unencapsulated iOSCs with PFN as ETL, left under N2, decreased to 80% after 58 h, while the same PCE reduction for iOSCs with inkjet printed ZnO as ETL, occurred after 189 h. Under air environment, the PCE of unencapsulated iOSCs fabricated with ZnO as ETL devices decreases to 80% after 160 h.

This work presents the formulation of a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to include uncertainty in the design of renewable-based utility plants. The model is based on a superstructure that integrates technologies to process biomass, waste, solar radiation, and wind and considers uncertainty in availability of the renewable resources and on the utility demands. The uncertain parameter space is calculated based on a monthly probability density function for each uncertain parameter and discretized into different levels. It is shown that as uncertainty is considered in the model formulation, design flexibility improves with respect to the deterministic-based designs, although the flexibility is achieved at the expense of higher underused facilities and therefore unused investment cost.

Objective. Polymerized-type I collagen (polymerized-collagen) is a downregulator of inflammation and a tissue regenerator. The aim was to evaluate the effect of intra-articular injections (IAIs) of polymerized-collagen among patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) in delaying or preventing joint replacement surgery. Patients and Methods. This was a cohort study of 309 patients with knee OA. Patients with mild-to-moderate disease were treated weekly with IAIs of 2 mL of polymerized-collagen for six weeks (n = 309). Follow-up was for 6–60 months. The primary endpoints included the following determinations: (1) therapeutic effect; (2) survival from total knee replacement surgery (TKR); (3) Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and pain (visual analogue scale, VAS). Clinical improvement was defined as a decrease in pain exceeding 20 mm on the VAS and the achievement of at least 20% improvement from baseline with respect to the WOMAC score. Radiographic analysis was performed at baseline and 60 months. The joint space width in the medial, lateral, and patellofemoral compartments was calculated. Results. Se reporta en este estudio la caracterización de una zona contaminada por lixiviados, siguiendo una metodología que integra datos geofísicos y geohidrológicos para proponer un modelo hidrogeológico del fenómeno. La caracterización del sitio (la estructura del subsuelo, y las características del suelo) incluyó seis perfiles sísmicos de refracción, tres líneas electromagnéticas (FDEM), dos perfiles eléctricos (ERT), cinco sondeos eléctricos verticales (SEV), y una serie de pruebas geohidrológicas para delimitar la pluma contaminante. El área de estudio corresponde a la laguna de lixiviados del relleno sanitario de la ciudad de Oaxaca, sur de México. El modelo hidrogeológico que se presenta constituye un ejemplo del potencial de la integración de varios métodos aplicados con el mismo objetivo; reduciendo así la ambigüedad de la respuesta geofísica. Los resultados indican que los valores de baja resistividad (1.5 a 2.5 Ohm-­m) se relacionan con un suelo contaminado subyaciendo a la laguna de lixiviados y al medio fracturado. También se detectó un desplazamiento de la pluma contaminante hacia el SW de la laguna. Abstract Background Aromatic ʟ‐amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency is a rare, severe neurological disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the dopa decarboxylase (DDC) gene, resulting in a combined deficiency of monoamine neurotransmitters. Clinically, patients present with a range of dysfunctions that impact motor, autonomic, and cognitive development. The constellation of symptoms of AADC deficiency varies among patients, and clinical presentation falls across a wide spectrum. However, most patients with AADC deficiency experience significant impairments when compared with children with normal development, irrespective of genotype, phenotype, or disease severity. Further, AADC deficiency is associated with increased mortality. Methods In response to the recent approval of a disease‐modifying gene therapy for AADC deficiency, this review presents considerations for the selection of patients for treatment. Conclusion Suggested clinical criteria to determine whether a patient is a candidate for gene therapy are: (1) genetically and biochemically confirmed AADC deficiency; (2) lack of achievement of gross motor milestones and/or persistence of clinically significant movement disorders; (3) persistent neurocognitive or systemic symptoms secondary to AADC deficiency despite standard medical therapy; and (4) informed parental/guardian decision and consent to treatment.
