Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a new buzzword that is gaining a momentum within the construction industry in Malaysia, and worldwide. BIM is a way of working that involves the automation of the entire project team using a 4D model that can do many of the traditional fuctions of a Quatity Surveyor (QS). As BIM is removing more of the traditional work of QS, there are rising fears that it could threaten the viability of the QS professions especially for small firms that still rely on producing bills of quantities. This paper aims to review the challenges and opportunities gained from BIM advancement in QS profession, especially in Malaysia. Despite of serious cost and commercial challenges of BIM implementation, BIM will work wonder as a tool that will cut the amount of time QS have to spend on analysis and provides opportunities to direct QS talents towards being more efficient. This is resulting to better project coordination with a lot less conflict, a more sustainable building in the final instance and also throughout the process, as less time is spent on each stage.

There is increasing demand on sustainability-led design to reduce negative impacts brought by construction development. The capability of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to achieve sustainability is widely acknowledged. Various sustainability analysis and calculation can be performed at early stages to help the designers in decision making. However, the level of implementation is still not popular in the construction industry. Many of the industry players are still rely on traditional 2D method for designing and analysis. Hence, this study aims to demonstrate a proof concept of using BIM for sustainability design. The first phase of this study conducted a critical review of existing assessment schemes: BREEAM, LEED, SBTool, CASBEE, BEAM Plus, Green Star, Green Mark and GBI, to develop a set of main criteria to be considered for sustainability design. The findings revealed that fourteen criteria are considered, which are management, sustainable site, transport, indoor environmental quality, energy, waste, water, material, pollution, innovation, economics, social, culture and quality of services. It was found that most of the existing schemes emphasized on environmental aspect as compared to economics, social and culture except SBTool. The next phase of this study will conduct a case study to demonstrate sustainability design through BIM by using the criteria developed from the first phase.

Building information modelling (BIM), as an effective digital method of information representation in the field of construction engineering, helps to deal with a series of works including design optimization, construction planning, and facility management. BIM enhances sustainability through energy simulations, material selection, waste reduction, and energy monitoring. However, challenges like talent shortage, interoperability issues, data management, and lack of standardization hinder its widespread use. Current research lacks systematic exploration of BIM's application in green buildings' life cycle, limiting further development. To fill this research gap, this study aims to provide a systematic review of the application of BIM in the design, construction and operation stages of the whole life cycle of green buildings. As a guideline to conduct this research, the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) model are used to identify the main procedures for literature screening and review. Through the systematic review, the main applications of BIM technology in green buildings are summarized, while the challenges in the current applications and the corresponding solutions are discussed. Finally, the study proposes key points for the future development of BIM to help the construction industry truly realize the development of man and nature and harmony and greenery. Building information modelling (BIM) has been theoretically proven to enhance the integration of design, construction, and operation processes, hence improving the holistic delivery of a construction project. Despite the many initiatives provided by the government across various countries to increase the uptake of BIM in project implementation, previous studies have discovered the many barriers to successfully applying BIM, among which are legal and contractual issues. Hence, the present study explores and reviews the current legal and contractual impediments that have restricted BIM-based applications in the construction industry. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) were employed as a standard protocol for reviewing the current research in the existing literature. The overall search process resulted in a total of 44 articles, which were then thematically analysed to disclose the findings. The review derived eight key aspects, namely procurement method, contract documentation, time and cost, quality, coordination, liability, security and law and regulation and their respective subcomponents as the basis of legal and contractual impediments that could challenge the success of BIM application in construction projects. The study extends the existing knowledge of BIM application and the implications arising from its utilisation and offers some practical insights for design and construction practitioners to improve their roles, obligations, and compliance with BIM contractual requirements. Building information modelling (BIM) has been considered an effective and efficient tool among stakeholders of the construction sector as it delivers prominent results. Hence, this work aimed to determine the intangible benefits of BIM in construction projects. Various statistical analyses were performed to identify the most critical intangible benefits of BIM required for justification. To rank the intangible benefits of BIM, the relative importance index was adopted. Then, the rotated component matrix was conducted to correlate each intangible benefit to its estimated components. In the last phase of the research, interviews were conducted to validate and confirm the critical intangible benefits. Five critical intangible benefits were identified: better understanding of design, better information received and given, improved communication through visualization, reduce design error and improved accuracy of drawings. A project meeting is an event in which stakeholders communicate amongst themselves to meet expectations in the projects by follow up, update, and get feedback. It is a platform for the team to communicate in any projects to serve the purpose of the meeting. As there is a limited study from the literature on the time performance of the project meeting, it is important to determine whether the impact of the project meeting contributes significantly to project time performance or leads to time waste and affects the project time performance. This qualitative study investigates the most significant factors that impact the project meeting to project time performance. Data analysis was obtained from interviews with twenty-seven project managers in the construction industry among local property developers based in Klang Valley, West Malaysia. The study using nvivo technique of analysis revealed most of the project managers agreed scheduling project meetings will improve time performance. The study also proposed guidelines for project meetings incorporating insightful general elements of meetings and time monitoring by incorporating project time spend and analysis of time spent that will assist the project manager to manage meetings efficiently. The findings revealed most of the project managers agreed that the presence of guidelines for meetings helps to guide meetings efficiently and enhance time project performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
