The duration of flowering and maturity is an important agricultural trait determining the suitability of a variety for cultivation in the target region. In the present study, we used genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) to search for loci associated with soybean flowering and maturity in the Central and West Siberian regions of Russia. A field experiment was conducted in 2021/2022 at two locations (Orel and Novosibirsk). A germplasm collection of 180 accessions was genotyped using SoySNP50K Illumina Infinium Bead-Chip. From the initial collection, we selected 129 unrelated accessions and conducted GWAS on this dataset using two multi-locus models: FarmCPU and BLINK. As a result, we identified 13 loci previously reported to be associated with duration of soybean development, and 17 new loci. 33 candidate genes were detected in these loci using analysis of co-expression, gene ontology, and literature data, with the best candidates being Glyma.03G177500, Glyma.13G177400, and Glyma.06G213100. These candidate genes code the Arabidopis orthologs TOE1 (TARGET OF EAT 1), SPL3 (SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN LIKE 3), the DELLA protein, respectively. In these three genes, we found haplotypes which may be associated with the length of soybean flowering and maturity, providing soybean adaptation to a northern latitudes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wild and cultivated relatives of wheat are an important source of genetic factors for improving the mineral composition of wheat. In this work, a wheat panel consisting of modern bread wheat varieties, landraces, and introgression lines with genetic material of the wheat species Triticum timopheevii, T. durum, T. dicoccum, and T. dicoccoides and the synthetic line T. kiharae was used to identify loci associated with the grain zinc (GZnC) and iron (GFeC) content. Using a BLINK model, we identified 31 and 73 marker–trait associations (MTAs) for GZnC and GFeC, respectively, of which 19 were novel. Twelve MTAs distributed on chromosomes 1B, 2A, 2B, 5A, and 5B were significantly associated with GZnC, five MTAs on 2A, 2B, and 5D chromosomes were significantly associated with GFeC, and two SNPs located on 2A and 2B were related to the grain concentration of both trace elements. Meanwhile, most of these MTAs were inherited from At and G genomes of T. timopheevii and T. kiharae and positively affected GZnC and GFeC. Eight genes related to iron or zinc transporters, representing diverse gene families, were proposed as the best candidates. Our findings provide an understanding of the genetic basis of grain Zn and Fe accumulation in species of the Timopheevi group and could help in selecting new genotypes containing valuable loci. Over the years, alien chromosome substitution has attracted the attention of geneticists and breeders as a rich source of remarkable genetic diversity for improvement in narrowly adapted wheat cultivars. One of the problems encountered along this way is the coadaptation and realization of the genome of common wheat against the background of the introduced genes. Here, using RNA-Seq, we assessed a transcriptome response of hexaploid wheat Triticum aestivum L. (cultivar Chinese Spring) to a 5B chromosome substitution with its homolog from wild emmer (tetraploid wheat T. dicoccoides Koern) and discuss how complete the physiological compensation for this alien chromatin introgression is. The main signature of the transcriptome in the substituted line was a sharp significant drop of activity before the beginning of the photoperiod with a gradual increase up to overexpression in the middle of the night. The differential expression altered almost all biological processes and pathways tested. Because in most cases, the differential expression or its fold change were modest, and this was only a small proportion of the expressed transcriptome, the physiological compensation of the 5B chromosome substitution in common wheat seemed overall satisfactory, albeit not completely. No over- or under-representation of differential gene expression was found in specific chromosomes, implying that local structural changes in the genome can trigger a global transcriptome response. The results of a comparative study of the quality of blackcurrant juices of five varieties of ARSRIFCB breeding suitable for industrial commercial use are presented: Azhurnaya, Orlovskaya Serenada, Orlovsky Vals, Ocharovanye, Chudnoye Mgnovenye. The sensory profiles of juices and their relation to scoring and varietal characteristics were studied. An analysis of the sensory qualities of mono-varietal blackcurrant juices showed that they largely depend on varietal characteristics, such as transparency and thickness, the sensation of acidity and sweetness, and the softness of the taste (absence of harsh acid in the taste). The indicators of the point analysis confirm the results of the descriptor. Sensory analysis data (point and descriptor) showed that preference is given to products with a ruby-red color, typical for blackcurrant juices, bright, not cloudy. Among the studied varieties, of great interest for juice production are the varieties Ocharovanye and Azhurnaya.

Four maturity genes, namely, E1, E2, E3 and E4, have been found to play major roles in controlling the flowering and maturity time of soybean. Which genotypes of E1–E4 genes provide effective adaptation to the varied conditions of Russia are unknown. To clarify this issue, we have studied the allele variation in soybean E1–E4 genes in terms of both flowering and maturity time under the natural day-length conditions of Central Russia and Western Siberia in a collection of 176 soybean accessions, including 142 Russian and 34 foreign accessions. As a result, a high frequency of previously determined E1–E4 alleles has been identified. The field experiment showed that genotypes with all recessive alleles from e1-nl/e2/e3/e4 and e1-as/e2/e3/e4 provide the effective adaptation of soybean to the mentioned conditions. Cultivars with these genotypes are considered to be most suitable for cultivation in Central Russia and Western Siberia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
