Two ligands; pyrrolidine-1-carbodithioate sodium (L 1 ) and piperidine-1-carbodithioate sodium salt(L 2 ) and their nickel(II) mixed ligands complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline (L 3 ) have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV-visible, 1 H NMR spectra. The biological activities of these complexes were also evaluated. The spectral data indicated that the 1,10-phenanthrolineand dithiocarbamate ligands are considered as a bidentate nitrogen and sulfur ligands, respectively. The study suggested that the above ligands formed complexes of general formula [Ni(L x ) 2 (L 3 ) 1 ] and [Ni(L x ) 1 (L 3 ) 2 ]Cl (x=1 or 2) mononuclear (monomer) complexes. The complexes show moderate and selective activity against tested microorganisms.

New organotellurium compounds are derived from 1-butyl-5H-tetrazole (1). 1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl mercury (II) chloride (2) was synthesized from the reaction of compound 1 with mercury acetate and sodium chloride. The 1:1 and 1:2 ratio reactions of tellurium tetrabromide with compound 2 gave 1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl tellurium tribromide (3) and di (1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl) tellurium dibromide (4), respectively. The reduction of compounds 3 and 4 by the alcoholic solution of aqueous hydrazine gave di (1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl) ditelluride (5) and di (1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl) telluride (6), respectively. The reaction of compound 5 with iodine and thionyl chloride gave 1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl tellurium triiodide (7) and 1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl tellurium trichloride (8), respectively. The reaction of compound 6 with iodine and thionyl chloride gave di (1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl) tellurium diiodide (9) and di (1-butyl tetrazole-5-yl) tellurium dichloride (10), respectively. The prepared compounds were characterized and the molar conductivities proved that the compounds 2–3 and 7–10 behaved as electrolytes (1:1).

The qualitative information about the interaction between 2-{[p-chlorophenylimino]methyl}phenol as attracting chelating Schiff base ligand (HL) with cobalt(II) and manganese(II) ions have been discussed by using the data of spectroscopy (IR, UV-Visible) and 1H NMR resonance techniques. The electrochemical properties of these species have been carried out by using cyclic voltammetry studies to see the differences in the potential and activity behavior during and after the electron transfer process. The cyclic voltammetry behavior of ligand exhibited an irreversible one-electron transfer and redox diffusion-controlled process due to the linearity relationship between redox peaks current and square root of scan rates. The cyclic sweep for CoL and CoL2 complexes appeared two irreversible oxidation peaks but with different values and positions, while the cyclic sweep of MnL and MnL2 complexes appeared several redox peaks, which related to the formation of various manganese redox species. All complexes had a deviation of current and potential to more anodic values when the cyclic sweep was applied at different scan rates. A positive shift was observed for CoL2 and MnL2 complexes may be to the electron-donating and electron-withdrawing properties of phenyl substituted group.

N,Nʹ-bis(4-hydroxysalicylidene)ethylenediamine nickel(II) complex was synthesized and functionalized onto MCM-41. The catalyst denoted as MCMSalenNi, was found to retain its hexagonal mesoporous structure as indicated from the TEM images. It however, had a reduced surface area and lower x-ray diffraction intensity than the parent MCM-41. Both FT-IR and solid-state MAS NMR (29Si, 13C) analyses proved that the complex was successfully functionalized onto the MCM-41 support. The catalyst was used in the rapid oxidation of benzyl alcohol and it afforded a high conversion (~98%) with benzaldehyde as the major product within 90 min. Periodic acid was used as a mild oxidant. In addition, the catalyst was reused up to six times with minimal loss of activity.
