Daylighting and solar availability at urban scale has come to play a crucial role in the perception of discomfort conditions for people, both in outdoor and indoor spaces, and on the energy consumption of buildings. Daylighting and solar analyses are typically done separately. The paper presents a novel method, called the ‘sunlight-daylight signature’ (SDS), which allows the qualitative analysis of urban settings with respect to sunlight and daylight. The method can be used to classify different urban settings in terms of daylight/sunlight access or to test new development proposals by referring to existing locations and confirm whether a certain daylight quality is met. The SDS relies on a new analysis tool, called ‘sunlight-daylight wedge’ (SDW), which combines obstruction (through the vertical sky component VSC) and sunlight access (through the annual probable sunlight hours PASH and the winter probable sunlight hours PWSH). The orientation of the façade at each point is also included as it will affect the times of the day when the sun-hours from PASH and PWSH occur, thus affecting the character of the corresponding sunlight. The SDS approach is based on a clustering technique to subdivide large datasets (in this case, daylight data points across entire cities or major urban areas) into smaller groups, using machine learning by way of the k-medoids clustering technique. This is used to derive typical daylight and sunlight scenarios representing groups of data points with similar conditions. Additional data is included to account for urban density and daylight availability in public areas. Final output of the clustering process consists of a map showing areas with the same daylight signature (SDS), which means areas with the same sunlight and daylight conditions. The SDS can be useful for urban planners and building practitioners to predict the access to both daylight and sunlight of large urban settings to optimize comfort for people and energy usage.

We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. It ensures the consistency of physics models across a variety of experiments.

The use of fungi as biological nanofactories is an innovative and promising research field of nanoscience. It offers the potential to yield sustainable and cost-effective nanostructures with fine-tuned features. This study reports the trichogenic synthesis of silver oxide/copper oxide (Ag2O/CuO) nanoalloys, using the culture filtrate of the endophytic fungus Trichoderma virens. The filtrate of T. virens mediated the synthesis of the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys, which was visually verified by the formation of dark bluish-greenish colloidal suspension upon reacting with AgNO3 and CuSO4·5H2O (1:1 v/v). X-ray diffraction revealed the crystalline nature of the trichogenic Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys, showing the characteristic diffraction peaks of cubic Ag2O (Pn-3/201) and tenorite monoclinic CuO (C2/c/15). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed spectra corresponding to the core levels of Ag 3d, Cu 2p, and O 1 s in the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy showed nitro and ester stretching vibrations in addition to characteristic interatomic metal–metal vibrations near 500 cm−1. Dynamic light scattering revealed that the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys had an average particle size distribution of 124 nm, while zeta potential measurement was + 23.8 mV. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) revealed a mixture of hemispherical and plate-like Ag2O/CuO particles arranged in crystalline clusters. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed the formation of quasi-spherical, circular, cuboid, and triangular Ag2O NPs along with the sharp-edged nanoplates of CuO particles. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis showed prominent emission peaks of Ag (12.41%), Cu (17.68%), and O (69.91%). The antibacterial efficacy of the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys was evaluated against six Gram-negative and three Gram-positive bacterial strains. The Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys exhibited significant antibacterial activity against streptomycin-sensitive Xanthomonas citri pv. citri (Xcc) (17.85 ± 0.735 mm), streptomycin-resistant Xcc (17.77 ± 0.720 mm), Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (17.44 ± 3.492 mm), and Escherichia coli (16.23 ± 2.468 mm), whereas the effectiveness of the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys was moderate against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (12.74 ± 1.302 mm), Staphylococcus aureus (12.56 ± 0.667 mm), streptomycin-sensitive Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc) (11.77 ± 0.431 mm), streptomycin-resistant Pcc (11.63 ± 0.741 mm), and C. michiganensis subsp. capsici (11.62 ± 0.958 mm). The bacterial cells exposed to the Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys exhibited notable morphological changes, such as cell membrane disruption, structural damage, compromised membrane integrity, shrinkage, and swelling. This research lays the groundwork for developing and using trichogenic Ag2O/CuO nanoalloys as highly effective nano-antimicrobial agents for a diverse array of applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polynesia was settled in a series of extraordinary voyages across an ocean spanning one third of the Earth.sup.1, but the sequences of islands settled remain unknown and their timings disputed. Currently, several centuries separate the dates suggested by different archaeological surveys.sup.2-4. Here, using genome-wide data from merely 430 modern individuals from 21 key Pacific island populations and novel ancestry-specific computational analyses, we unravel the detailed genetic history of this vast, dispersed island network. Our reconstruction of the branching Polynesian migration sequence reveals a serial founder expansion, characterized by directional loss of variants, that originated in Samoa and spread first through the Cook Islands (Rarotonga), then to the Society (TÅtaiete ma) Islands (11th century), the western Austral (Tuha'a Pae) Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago (12th century), and finally to the widely separated, but genetically connected, megalithic statue-building cultures of the Marquesas (Te Henua 'Enana) Islands in the north, Raivavae in the south, and Easter Island (Rapa Nui), the easternmost of the Polynesian islands, settled in approximately ad 1200 via Mangareva. Background: Although mammography is a powerful screening tool in detection of early breast cancer, it is imperfect, particularly for women with dense breast, which have a higher risk to develop cancer and decrease the sensitivity of mammogram, Automated breast ultrasound is a recently introduced ultrasonography technique, developed with the purpose to standardize breast ultrasonography and overcome some limitations of handheld ultrasound, this study aims to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of Automated breast ultrasound and compare it with handheld ultrasound in the detection and characterization of breast lesions in women with dense breasts. Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of Automated breast ultrasound and compare it with hand held ultrasound in detection and characterization of breast lesions in women with dense breast. Subjects and Methods: A prospective observational study conducted at Oncology Teaching Hospital during the period of ten months from 1st of February till 1st of December 2020. Included 62 women with dense breasts on diagnostic mammograms. All women underwent technician performed automated breast ultrasound and radiologist performed handheld ultrasound for both breasts. All suspicious lesions with selected probably benign lesions underwent biopsy, handheld ultrasound detected 48 masses (67.6%), 15 of them (21.1%) were cystic, automated breast ultrasound detected 54 masses (76.1%); 20 of them (28.2%) were cystic. The sensitivity of handheld ultrasound was=87.5%, Specificity=58.8%, the sensitivity of automated breast ultrasound was=93.8%, Specificity=70.6%. Conclusion: Automated breast ultrasound is an effective modality to detect occult breast lesion in women with dense breasts, automated breast ultrasound and handheld ultrasound have a reliable agreement in detection and characterization of breast lesions with higher accuracy of automated breast ultrasound in the evaluation of malignant lesions.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with low back pain (acute and chronic) among individuals with flat feet.Methods: In 2018, a cross-sectional study was conducted at a national festival in Saudi Arabia, and 1798 adult visitors were invited to participate in face-to-face interviews. Participants’ characteristics were stratified by the type of foot and they were questioned on acute low back pain (ALBP) or chronic low back pain (CLBP). The odds ratio (OR) were presented as a measure of this association, followed by a multivariate analysis.Results: The prevalence of LBP among participants with flat feet was 65.9%, among whom 51.6% suffered ALBP and 48.4% suffered from CLBP. Flat feet increased the chances of having ALBP by 3.28 times and CLBP by 4.5 times. After stratification, ALBP and CLBP were both significantly higher among all participants with flat feet in comparison with their counter groups. Multivariate analyses showed that females were more likely to complain of ALBP. Participants who did no physical activity were more likely to complain of ALBP. Female participants and older participants were more likely to complain of ALBP and CLBP.Conclusion: Flat feet are associated with both ALBP and CLBP. This ex post facto study aimed to reveal the influence of adversity quotient and attitudes students on physics learning achievement. The population of this study was all of twelvh graders of Public Senior High School (SMAN) 10 Banjarmasin City. The sample was determined by simple random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires. The research data were analyzed by using SPSS statistical data processing program. The results showed that adversity quotient and attitudes students were in the very high and positive category, and than had a significant effect on physics learning achievement of Public Senior High School (SMAN) 10 Banjarmasin City.

This study aimed to compare the influence of chelated organic (OTM) and inorganic trace minerals (ITM) on the digestibility coefficient, nutritive values, reproductive performance, and milk yield of Friesian cows. Cows (n=50) were divided into 5 groups; cows in the first group (control, G1) were given an untreated diet, whereas diets in G2 were supplemented with 100% ITM, G3 were received 50% ITM and 50% OTM, G4 were received 25% ITM and 75% OTM, and G5 were supplied with 100% OTM. G5 and G4 digested DM more efficiently than other groups. OM and NFE digestion were significantly larger in G5 and G4 compared to other groups. Cows supplemented with OTM and/or ITM showed significantly higher average daily milk, 4% fat corrected milk yield, and fat % than the control group. Protein % and total solid % significantly increased in G5 than in G1. The interval from calving to estrus was shorter in G5 than in other groups. G4 and G5 had a significantly lower number of days open and services per conception and a significantly greater conception rate than other groups. With these results, we conclude that supplementation of Friesian cows with a diet containing permissible limits of organic trace minerals could significantly improve the digestibility coefficient, nutritive values, reproductive performance, and milk yield compared to cows fed on inorganic trace elements. This research is carried out to examine the developed circular motion physics module in a cooperative learning setting for students of Grade X Science Senior High School in Banjarmasin. This study's general objectives are to produce a circular motion physics module integrated with gumbaan local wisdom in cooperative learning settings and describe its feasibility. Moreover, this study's specific objectives aimed to describe the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the module. This study utilizes the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) development design model. The instruments used consisted of module validation sheets, students’ questionnaire responses, and learning outcome test. The results of the study indicated that: (1) the validity of the module, based on the content and display, obtained a score of 3.20, which fell in the "good" category, (2) the practicality of the module, based on students' questionnaire responses, obtained a percentage of 64.92% which is categorized as “good”, and (3) the effectiveness of the module, based on students' test scores, obtained a score of 0.44 which belonged in the "moderate" category. It is then concluded that the circular motion physics module, which integrated gumbaan local wisdom contents in cooperative learning settings, is proven feasible for learning and teaching and can be used as an alternative reference in improving the quality of learning, especially to improve the learning outcomes of learners. This module can be used as a reference that teachers can use in learning at senior high school.
