ALMA data toward QSO J1851+0035 ($l$=$33.498^{\circ}$, $b$=$+0.194^{\circ}$) were used to study absorption lines by Galactic molecular gas. We detected 17 species (CO, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O, HCO$^+$, H$^{13}$CO$^+$, HCO, H$_2$CO, C$_2$H, $c$-C$_3$H, $c$-C$_3$H$_2$, CN, HCN, HNC, CS, SO, SiO, and C) and set upper limits to 18 species as reference values for chemical models. About 20 independent velocity components at 4.7-10.9 kpc from the Galactic Center were identified. Their column density and excitation temperature estimated from the absorption study, as well as the CO intensity distributions obtained from the FUGIN survey, indicate that the components with $\tau$ $\lesssim$ 1 correspond to diffuse clouds or cloud outer edges. Simultaneous multiple-Gaussian fitting of CO $J$=1-0 and $J$=2-1 absorption lines shows that these are composed of narrow- and broad-line components. The kinetic temperature empirically expected from the high HCN/HNC isomer ratio ($\gtrsim$4) reaches $\gtrsim$40 K and the corresponding thermal width accounts for the line widths of the narrow-line components. CN-bearing molecules and hydrocarbons have tight and linear correlations within the groups. The CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio showed a dispersion as large as 3 orders of magnitude with a smaller ratio in a smaller $N$(HCO$^+$) (or lower $A_{\rm V}$) range. Some of the velocity components are detected in single-dish CO emission and ALMA HCO$^+$ absorption but without corresponding ALMA CO absorption. This may be explained by the mixture of clumpy CO emitters not resolved with the $\sim$1 pc single-dish beam surrounded by extended components with a very low CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio (i.e., CO-poor gas).

We report the discovery of a 10 comoving Mpc-scale structure traced by massive submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) at z~4.6. These galaxies are selected from an emission line search of ALMA Band 7 observations targeting 184 luminous submillimeter sources ($S_{850\mu{\rm m}}\geq$ 6.2 mJy) across 1.6 degrees$^2$ in the COSMOS field. We identify four [CII] emitting SMGs and two probable [CII] emitting SMG candidates at z=4.60-4.64 with velocity-integrated signal-to-noise ratio of SNR>8. Four of the six emitters are near-infrared blank SMGs. After excluding one SMG whose emission line is falling at the edge of the spectral window, all galaxies show clear velocity gradients along the major axes that are consistent with rotating gas disks. The estimated rotation velocities of the disks are 330-550 km s$^{-1}$ and the inferred host dark-matter halo masses are ~2-8 $\times$ 10$^{12}$M$_{\odot}$. From their estimated halo masses and [CII] luminosity function, we suggest that these galaxies have a high (50-100%) duty cycle and high (~0.1) baryon conversion efficiency (SFR relative to baryon accretion rate), and that they contribute $\simeq$2% to the total star-formation rate density at z=4.6. These SMGs are concentrated within just 0.3% of the full survey volume, suggesting they are strongly clustered. The extent of this structure and the individual halo masses suggest that these SMGs will likely evolve into members of a ~10$^{15}$M$_{\odot}$ cluster at z=0. This survey reveals synchronized dusty starburst in massive halos at z>4, which could be driven by mergers or fed by smooth gas accretion.

We have developed a method to make a spectral-line-based survey of hot cores, which represent an important stage of high-mass star formation, and applied the method to the data of the FUGIN (FOREST Unbiased Galactic plane Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope) survey. First, we select hot core candidates by searching the FUGIN data for the weak hot core tracer lines (HNCO and CH$_3$CN) by stacking, and then we conduct follow-up pointed observations on these candidates in C$^{34}$S, SO, OCS, HC$_3$N, HNCO, CH$_3$CN, and CH$_3$OH $J=2-1$ and $J=8-7$ lines to confirm and characterize them. We applied this method to the $l = 10^\circ-20^\circ$ portion of the FUGIN data and identified 22 "Hot Cores" (compact sources with more than two significant detection of the hot core tracer lines, i.e., SO, OCS, HC$_3$N, HNCO, CH$_3$CN, or CH$_3$OH $J=8-7$ lines) and 14 "Dense Clumps" (sources with more than two significant detection of C$^{34}$S, CH$_3$OH $J=2-1$, or the hot core tracer lines). The identified Hot Cores are found associated with signposts of high-mass star formation such as ATLASGAL clumps, WISE HII regions, and Class II methanol masers. For those associated with ATLASGAL clumps, their bolometric luminosity to clump mass ratios are consistent with the star formation stages centered at the hot core phase. We present the results from new Nobeyama Millimeter Array observations of CO(1-0), HCN(1-0), and 89-GHz continuum emissions toward NGC 604, known as the supergiant H ii region in a nearby galaxy M 33. Our high spatial resolution images of CO emission allowed us to uncover ten individual molecular clouds that have masses of (0.8 -7.4) 10$^5$M$_{\sun }$ and sizes of 5 -- 29 pc, comparable to those of typical Galactic giant molecular clouds (GMCs). Moreover, we detected for the first time HCN emission in the two most massive clouds and 89 GHz continuum emission at the rims of the "H${\alpha}$ shells". Three out of ten CO clouds are well correlated with the H${\alpha}$ shells both in spatial and velocity domains, implying an interaction between molecular gas and the expanding H ii region. Furthermore, we estimated star formation efficiencies (SFEs) for each cloud from the 89-GHz and combination of H${\alpha}$ and 24-${\mu}$m data, and found that the SFEs decrease with increasing projected distance measured from the heart of the central OB star cluster in NGC 604, suggesting the radial changes in evolutionary stages of the molecular clouds in course of stellar cluster formation. Our results provide further support to the picture of sequential star formation in NGC604 initially proposed by Tosaki et al. (2007) with the higher spatially resolved molecular clouds, in which an isotropic expansion of the H ii region pushes gases outward and accumulates them to consecutively form dense molecular clouds, and then induces massive star formations., Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We report on a deep search for CO(J=3-2) line emission from the host galaxy of GRB 980425 with the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE). We observed five points of the galaxy covering the entire region. After combining all of the spectra, we obtained a global spectrum with the rms noise level of 3.3 mK in T_mb scale at a velocity resolution of 10 km s^-1. No significant emission was detected, though we find a marginal emission feature in the velocity range corresponding to the redshift of the galaxy. We derive 3 sigma upper limits on the global properties: the velocity-integrated CO(3-2) intensity of I_CO(3-2) < 0.26 K km s^-1 by adopting a velocity width of 67 km s^-1; the H_2 column density of N(H_2) < 3 x 10^20 cm^-2; the molecular gas mass of M(H_2) < 3 x 10^8 M_sun, by assuming a CO line luminosity to H_2 molecular gas mass conversion factor of X_CO = 5.0 x 10^20 cm^-2 (K km s^-1)^-1; and the star formation rate of SFR < 0.1 M_sun yr^-1, based on the Schmidt law. The SFR is consistent with the previous results of H_alpha and mid-IR observations, thereby suggesting that there is no significant obscured star formation in the host galaxy of GRB 980425. We present CO(J=3-2) emission observations with the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) toward the 5' x 5' (or 6.6 x 6.6 kpc at the distance D = 4.5 Mpc) region of the nearby barred spiral galaxy M 83. We successfully resolved the major structures, i.e., the nuclear starburst region, bar, and inner spiral arms in CO(J=3-2) emission at a resolution of 22'' (or 480 pc), showing a good spatial coincidence between CO(J=3-2) and 6 cm continuum emissions. We found a global CO(J=3-2) luminosity L'_CO(3-2) of 5.1 x 10^8 K km s^-1 pc^2 within the observed region. We also found L'_CO(3-2) in the disk region (0.5 < r < 3.5 kpc) of 4.2 x 10^8 K km s^-1 pc^2, indicating that CO(J=3-2) emission in the disk region significantly contributes to the global L'_CO(3-2). From a comparison of a CO(J=3-2) data with CO(J=1-0) intensities measured with Nobeyama 45-m telescope, we found that the radial profile of CO(J=3-2)/CO(J=1-0) integrated intensity ratio R_3-2/1-0 is almost unity in the central region (r < 0.25 kpc), whereas it drops to a constant value, 0.6--0.7, in the disk region. The radial profile of star formation efficiencies (SFEs), determined from 6 cm radio continuum and CO(J=1-0) emission, shows the same trend as that of R_3-2/1-0. At the bar-end (r ~ 2.4 kpc), the amounts of molecular gas and the massive stars are enhanced when compared with other disk regions, whereas there is no excess of R_3-2/1-0 and SFE in that region. This means that a simple summation of the star forming regions at the bar-end and the disk cannot reproduce the nuclear starburst of M 83, implying that the spatial variation of the dense gas fraction traced by R_3-2/1-0 governs the spatial variation of SFE in M 83., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures, PASJ in press, version with high resolution figures is available via http://www.nro.nao.ac.jp/~z5001km/m83-aste.pdf
