Abstract

In situations when the precise position of a machine is unknown, localization becomes crucial. This research focuses on improving the position prediction accuracy over long-range (LoRa) network using an optimized machine learning-based technique. In order to increase the prediction accuracy of the reference point position on the data collected using the fingerprinting method over LoRa technology, this study proposed an optimized machine learning (ML) based algorithm. Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data from the sensors at different positions was first gathered via an experiment through the LoRa network in a multistory round layout building. The noise factor is also taken into account, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) value is recorded for every RSSI measurement. This study concludes the examination of reference point accuracy with the modified KNN method (MKNN). MKNN was created to more precisely anticipate the position of the reference point. Abstract

Water is essential for life. Frequent water disruption in Malaysia caused turbulence in daily lives and livelihood of thousands Malaysian. The water operators in Malaysia are facing serious challenges to ensure consumers have continuous access to clean water and to ensure a sustainable water future. River pollution in Malaysia had been identified to be one of the causes of water crisis in Malaysia. Hence, a continuous monitoring system utilizing the concept of Internet of Things had been proposed in this paper. Agile model is used due to its simplicity. The water’s pH measurement, turbidity, temperature and flow can be measured and the reading will be sent to end-user. The sensors that detects the pH value, turbidity, temperature and flow measurement of a water sample will pass through the information to the Arduino, and the result will be shown on the mobile devices via an app called Blynk. This portable and comprehensive prototype is suitable to be used in Smart Cities where WiFi signals is available as the transmission medium.

Abstract

In a huge congregation, several pilgrimages went missing because they got lost or other causes. Moreover, during the holy seasons, cases like panicking due to getting scattered around from the group or getting lost and not finding the way back. To accommodate this problem, Portable Pilgrim Tracker is proposed in this paper to overcome those missing pilgrimages cases. Portable Pilgrim Tracker is a monitoring and tracking device designated to detect the user's location and heart rate in real-time. Using Wi-Fi technology as the medium of data transmission, the data is collected from the GPS module and pulse sensor Arduino. The information such as the user's real-time location and heart rate will be sent to the guardian's Blynk mobile application. With the usage of this portable pilgrim tracker, it is expected that this will be able to assist the mobile application user (guardians or travel agency staff) with the screen of live maps about Pilgrim's location and their heart rate to avoid any unwanted consequences such as missing Pilgrim and health compilation. Abstract

This project introduces the design and development of IoT E-waste monitoring system to support Green City initiatives in real-time. The main objective of this system is to design an IoT-based recycle e-waste monitoring system that will provide an efficient solution to electronics waste collection and generation data. The hazardous chemical components of e-waste have potentially adverse impacts on ecosystems and human health if not managed and monitored properly. Hence, the importance to constantly monitor the condition of the e-waste bin. The system measures and delivers up-to-date information to the system’s administrator on the waste level and bin’s current temperature in real-time. In case of fire, the system will give notification via its flame indicator. Agile Model is used as the research methodology as it offers an adaptive approach in respect to what features need to be developed. The proposed system consists of HC - SR04 Ultrasonic sensor which measures the waste level, a DS18B20 temperature sensor that detects the temperature in the bin, KY- 026 flame sensor, a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ as a microcontroller and ThingSpeak as an IoT web platform. ThingSpeak concurrently stores data for future use and analysis, such as prediction of the peak level of waste bin. This system is expected to increase the usage of e-waste recycle bin, hence supporting the Green City initiatives and creating a greener environment by monitoring and controlling the collection of e-waste smartly through the concept of Internet-of-Things (IoT).

Abstract

A novel spinning disk approach is reported, to achieve video-rate compressive imaging at infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) frequencies. It uses a 200-mm-diameter circular stainless steel disk with a number of chemically etched 2-mm-diameter holes as a spatial light modulator (SLM). The authors demonstrate that this mechanical SLM is well suited for imaging at both optical and THz frequencies since the stainless steel is opaque to all optical and electromagnetic radiations while the holes are totally transparent. Using a single pair of IR emitter and receiver, the authors demonstrate that the system is capable of capturing a 96 × 96 video sequence at 10 frames/s. The achieved spatial resolution is better than 2 mm using the spinning disk where the diameter of the holes is 2 mm. The authors also present a key-frame extraction method based on this SLM disk, which allows us to capture the shape of a sample even when its size is larger than the effective imaging area of the system.
