Abstract: The Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) is one of the components of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and can monitor any sources over two-thirds of the sky for up to 7 hours per day with >98\% duty cycle. In this work, we report the detection of two outbursts of the Fanaroff-Riley I radio galaxy NGC 1275 that were detected by LHAASO-WCDA between November 2022 and January 2023 with statistical significance of 5.2~$\sigma$ and 8.3~$\sigma$. The observed spectral energy distribution in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV is fitted by a power-law with a best-fit spectral index of $\alpha=-3.37\pm0.52$ and $-3.35\pm0.29$, respectively. The outburst flux above 0.5~TeV was ($4.55\pm 4.21)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$ and ($3.45\pm 1.78)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$, corresponding to 60\%, 45\% of Crab Nebula flux. Variation analysis reveals the variability time-scale of days at the TeV energy band. Abstract: We report the detection of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source coincident with the locations of middle-aged (62.4~\rm kyr) pulsar PSR J0248+6021, by using the LHAASO-WCDA data of live 796 days and LHAASO-KM2A data of live 1216 days. A significant excess of \gray induced showers is observed both by WCDA in energy bands of 1-25~\rm TeV and KM2A in energy bands of $>$ 25~\rm TeV with 7.3 $\sigma$ and 13.5 $\sigma$, respectively. The best-fit position derived through WCDA data is R.A. = 42.06$^\circ \pm$ 0.12$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.24$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.69$^\circ\pm$0.15$^\circ$ and that of the KM2A data is R.A.= 42.29$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.38$^\circ \pm$ 0.07$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.37$^\circ\pm$0.07$^\circ$. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of this LHAASO source has been found from the radio band to the GeV band. The most plausible explanation of the VHE \gray emission is the inverse Compton process of highly relativistic electrons and positrons injected by the pulsar. 3. High energy trans-cuboid Chopart dislocation: From closed reduction to secondary double arthrodesis.

Abstract: CASE REPORT: Chopart joint fracture-dislocations are rare injuries. The purpose of this report is to present the management of a high energy trans-cuboid Chopart dislocation. This fracture-dislocation dislocation was treated with closed reduction, provisional fixation, and definitively with a combination of open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) and a lateral column external fixator. Due to persistent pain and Chopart joint collapse, the patient ultimately required a double arthrodesis. CONCLUSION: While rare, Chopart joint fracture-dislocations are impactful injuries that require prompt diagnosis and specialized management. The description of this high energy trans-cuboid Chopart dislocation and the stepwise approach for its management may be useful for other surgeons who encounter similar injuries.

4. Comparing Multipin Clamps With Outriggers With Standard Clamps for Lower Extremity Periarticular External Fixation: Similar Radiographic and Clinical Outcomes.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Staged treatment of high-energy periarticular tibia fractures involves temporization with closed reduction and external fixation, aiming to provide early reduction and stabilization while mitigating soft-tissue complications. Various external fixator configurations exist, including those that use a multipin clamp capable of holding multiple pins but limiting pin placement to a single plane. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical and radiographic outcomes and associated costs of standard and multipin outrigger clamp constructs in tibial plateau and pilon fractures treated with temporary external fixation. We hypothesized that use of the multipin clamp may be associated with poorly aligned reductions and increased complication rates. METHODS: A retrospective review of 100 patients with periarticular tibial plateau (AO/OTA: 41B/C) or pilon (43B/C) fracture at a Level 1 trauma center from 2014 to 2023 was conducted. Patient, injury, and complication characteristics were collected. Patients were categorized based on the external fixator clamp used: multipin (MP) or standard (S). Clinical outcomes and complication rates were assessed. Radiographic alignment was evaluated by the change in anterior and lateral distal tibial angles, and sagittal plane translation for pilon fractures, and medial and posterior proximal tibial angles for plateau fractures. RESULTS: 70 patients underwent standard (25 pilon, 45 plateau) and 30 multipin (10 pilon, 20 plateau) external fixation. MP and S groups showed no notable differences in demographics or injury characteristics. Both groups demonstrated comparable complication rates and radiological alignment outcomes, with no notable differences observed. MP constructs were more costly than standard systems. CONCLUSION: In this retrospective study of 100 patients, there was no difference in radiographic or clinical outcomes between the standard frame and multipin frame groups. Typical costs for the multipin frame constructs were $635 to $1249 more than the standard frame constructs.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To describe U-type sacral fracture characteristics amenable to percutaneous sacral screw fixation. METHODS: U-type sacral fractures were identified from a trauma registry at a level 1 trauma center from 2014 to 2020. Patient demographics, injury mechanism, fracture characteristics, and fixation construct were retrospectively retrieved. Associations between fracture pattern and surgical fixation were identified. RESULTS: 82 U-type sacral fractures were reviewed. Six treated with lumbopelvic fixation (LPF) and 76 were treated with percutaneous sacral screws (PSS) alone. 6. An Integrated Deep-Cryogenic Temperature Sensor in CMOS Technology for Quantum Computing Applications

Abstract: On-chip thermometry at deep-cryogenic temperatures is vital in quantum computing applications to accurately quantify the effect of increased temperature on qubit performance and to implement real-time thermal management on quantum processors. In this work, we present a sub-1K temperature sensor in CMOS technology based on the temperature dependence of the critical current of a superconducting (SC) thin-film. The sensor is implemented in 22-nm fully depleted silicon on insulator (FDSOI) technology and comprises a 6-nA-resolution current-output digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) with a SC thin-film as a gain element, and a voltage comparator. The circuit dissipates 1.5uW and is demonstrated operating at ambient temperatures as low as 15mK, providing a variable temperature resolution reaching sub-10mK., Comment: This work has been submitted to the IEEE for possible publication

7. Variations in the Inferred Cosmic-Ray Spectral Index as Measured by Neutron Monitors in Antarctica

Abstract: A technique has recently been developed for tracking short-term spectral variations in Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) using data from a single neutron monitor (NM), by collecting histograms of the time delay between successive neutron counts and extracting the leader fraction $L$ as a proxy of the spectral index. Here we analyze $L$ from four Antarctic NMs during 2015 March to 2023 September. We have calibrated $L$ from the South Pole NM with respect to a daily spectral index determined from published data of GCR proton fluxes during 2015--2019 from the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) aboard the International Space Station. Our results demonstrate a robust correlation between the leader fraction and the spectral index fit over the rigidity range 2.97--16.6 GV for AMS-02 data, with uncertainty 0.018 in the daily spectral index as inferred from $L$. In addition to the 11-year solar activity cycle, a wavelet analysis confirms a 27-day periodicity in the GCR flux and spectral index corresponding to solar rotation, especially near sunspot minimum, while the flux occasionally exhibited a strong harmonic at 13.5 days, and that the magnetic field component along a nominal Parker spiral (i.e., the magnetic sector structure) is a strong determinant of such spectral and flux variations, with the solar wind speed exerting an additional, nearly rigidity-independent influence on flux variations. 8. Observing the crack tip behaviour at the nanoscale during fracture of ceramics

Abstract: Ultimately, brittle fracture involves breaking atomic bonds. However, we still lack a clear picture of what happens in the highly deformed region around a moving crack tip. Consequently, we still cannot link nano to atomic-scale phenomena with the macroscopic toughness of materials. The unsolved challenge is to observe the movement of the crack front at the nanoscale while extracting quantitative information. Here we address this challenge by monitoring stable crack growth inside a TEM. Our analysis demonstrates how phase transformation toughening, previously thought to be effective at the microscale and above, promotes crack deflection at the nano-level and increases the fracture resistance by ~50%. The work will help to connect the atomistic and continuous view of fracture in a way that can guide the design of the next generation of strong and tough materials demanded by technologies as diverse as healthcare, energy generation or transport.

9. A Participatory and Inclusive 2-Year-Old Infant Classroom

Abstract: The objective is to analyse the progress of a 2-year-olds classroom in a school in Cantabria (Spain) towards an inclusive participation project. The research, carried out over three school years, has been based on the qualitative paradigm and ethnographic approach. A variety of research strategies have been employed: participant observation; discussion groups; informal conversations; ambulation and child conferencing using image elicitation. We have analysed the transformation of the educational approach in a classroom for 2-year-olds into a pedagogy of inclusive participation. These transformation process have deployed through three practitioner enquiry cycles with different focuses: materials and proposals; curriculum as "progetazzione"; decision-making opportunities and child participation. These transformation processes have also allowed educators to move towards a critical ecology of the profession perspective. Finally, the teachers who enquired into their educational reality by listening to children, embarded on a process of transformation towards more participatory education.

Abstract: PURPOSE: The retrograde femoral nailing advanced (RFNA) system (DePuy synthes) is a commonly used implant for the fixation of low distal femur and periprosthetic fractures. There is concern that the rate of distal interlock screw back-out may be higher for the RFNA compared to other nails (ON). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence of interlock screw back-out and associated screw removal for RFNA versus ON, along with associated risk factors. METHODS: A retrospective comparative study of patients who underwent retrograde nailing for a distal femur fracture at an academic level one trauma center was performed. The incidence of distal interlock screw back-out and need for screw removal were compared for RFNA versus a propensity score matched cohort who received other nails. RESULTS: One hundred and ten patients underwent retrograde nailing with the RFNA for a distal femur fracture from 2015 to 2022 (average age: 66, BMI: 32, 52.7% smokers, 54.5% female, 61.8%). There was a significantly higher rate of interlock back-out in the RFNA group compared to the ON (27 patients, 24.5% vs 12 patients, 10.9%, p = 0.01), which occurred 6.3 weeks postoperatively. Screw removal rates for back-out were not significantly different for the RFNA group versus ON (8 patients, 7.3% vs 3 patients, 2.7%, p = 0.12). CONCLUSION: In this retrospective comparative study of distal femur fractures treated with retrograde nailing, the RFNA implant was associated with an increased risk of distal interlock screw back-out compared to other nails.

Abstract: In this work we try to search for signals generated by ultra-heavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible gamma-ray by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter which have low fluxes of astrophysical $\gamma$-ray background while large amount of dark matter. By analyzing more than 700 days observational data at LHAASO, no significant dark matter signal from 1 TeV to 1 EeV is detected. Accordingly we derive the most stringent constraints on the ultra-heavy dark matter annihilation cross-section up to EeV. Abstract: The KM2A is the largest sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). It consists of 5216 electromagnetic particle detectors (EDs) and 1188 muon detectors (MDs). The data recorded by the EDs and MDs are used to reconstruct primary information of cosmic ray and gamma-ray showers. This information is used for physical analysis in gamma-ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics. To ensure the reliability of the LHAASO-KM2A data, a three-level quality control system has been established. It is used to monitor the status of detector units, stability of reconstructed parameters and the performance of the array based on observations of the Crab Nebula and Moon shadow. This paper will introduce the control system and its application on the LHAASO-KM2A data collected from August 2021 to July 2023. During this period, the pointing and angular resolution of the array were stable. From the observations of the Moon shadow and Crab Nebula, the results achieved using the two methods are consistent with each other. According to the observation of the Crab Nebula at energies from 25 TeV to 100 TeV, the time averaged pointing errors are estimated to be $-0.003^{\circ} \pm 0.005^{\circ}$ and $0.001^{\circ} \pm 0.006^{\circ}$ in the R.A. and Dec directions, respectively., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

Abstract: The first source catalog of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory reported the detection of a very-high-energy gamma ray source, 1LHAASO J1219+2915. In this paper a further detailed study of the spectral and temporal behavior of this point-like source have been carried. The best-fit position of the TeV source ($\rm{RA}=185.05^{\circ}\pm0.04^{\circ}$, $\rm{Dec}=29.25^{\circ}\pm0.03^{\circ}$) is compatible with NGC 4278 within $\sim0.03$ degree. Variation analysis shows an indication of the variability at a few months level in the TeV band, which is consistent with low frequency observations. Based on these observations, we report the detection of TeV $\gamma$-ray emissions from this low-luminosity AGN NGC 4278. The observations by LHAASO-WCDA during active period has a significance level of 8.8\,$\sigma$ with best-fit photon spectral index $\varGamma=2.56\pm0.14$ and a flux $f_{1-10\,\rm{TeV}}=(7.0\pm1.1_{\rm{sta}}\pm0.35_{\rm{syst}})\times10^{-13}\,\rm{photons\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$, or approximately $5\%$ of the Crab Nebula. The discovery of VHE from NGC 4278 indicates that the compact, weak radio jet can efficiently accelerate particles and emit TeV photons., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

14. A Multi-Module Silicon-On-Insulator Chip Assembly Containing Quantum Dots and Cryogenic Radio-Frequency Readout Electronics

Abstract: Quantum processing units will be modules of larger information processing systems containing also digital and analog electronics modules. Silicon-based quantum computing offers the enticing opportunity to manufacture all the modules using the same technology platform. Here, we present a cryogenic multi-module assembly for multiplexed readout of silicon quantum devices where all modules have been fabricated using the same fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FDSOI) CMOS process. The assembly is constituted by three chiplets: (i) a low-noise amplifier (LNA), (ii) a single-pole eight-throw switch (SP8T), and (iii) a silicon quantum dot (QD) array. We integrate the chiplets into modules and show respectively, (i) a peak gain over 35dB with a 3dB bandwidth from 709MHz to 827MHz and an average noise temperature of 6.2K (minimum 4.2K), (ii) an insertion loss smaller than 1.1dB and a noise temperature less than 1.1K over the 0-2GHz range, and (iii) single-electron box (SEB) charge sensors. 15. The extended Lipkin model: proposal for implementation in a quantum platform and machine learning analysis of its phase diagram

Abstract: We investigate the Extended Lipkin Model (ELM), whose phase diagram mirrors that of the Interacting Boson Approximation model (IBA). Unlike the standard Lipkin model, the ELM (as the IBA) features both first- and second-order quantum shape phase transitions depending on the model parameters. Our goal is to implement the ELM on a quantum platform, leveraging Machine Learning techniques to identify its quantum phase transitions and critical lines. To achieve this, we offer: i) ground state energy calculations using a variational quantum eigensolver; ii) a detailed formulation for ELM dynamics within quantum computing, facilitating experimental exploration of the IBA phase diagram; and iii) a phase diagram determination using various Machine Learning methods. We successfully replicate the ELM ground-state energy using the Adaptive Derivative-Assembled Pseudo-Trotter ansatz Variational Quantum Eigensolver (ADAPT-VQE) algorithm across the entire phase space. Our framework ensures ELM implementation on quantum platforms with controlled errors. Lastly, our ML predictions yield a meaningful phase diagram for the model. Abstract: Modeling of time profiles of solar energetic particle (SEP) observations often considers transport along a large-scale magnetic field with a fixed path length from the source to the observer. Here we point out that variability in the turbulent field line path length can affect the fits to SEP data and the inferred mean free path and injection profile. To explore such variability, we perform Monte Carlo simulations in representations of homogeneous 2D MHD + slab turbulence adapted to spherical geometry and trace trajectories of field lines and full particle orbits, considering proton injection from a narrow or wide angular region near the Sun, corresponding to an impulsive or gradual solar event, respectively. We analyze our simulation results in terms of field line and particle path length statistics for $1^\circ\times 1^\circ$ pixels in heliolatitude and heliolongitude at 0.35 and 1 AU from the Sun, for different values of the turbulence amplitude $b/B_0$ and turbulence geometry as expressed by the slab fraction $f_s$. Maps of the most probable path lengths of field lines and particles at each pixel exhibit systematic patterns that reflect the fluctuation amplitudes experienced by the field lines, which in turn relate to the local topology of 2D turbulence. Abstract: Semiconductor integrated circuits operated at cryogenic temperature will play an essential role in quantum computing architectures. These can offer equivalent or superior performance to their room-temperature counterparts while enabling a scaling up of the total number of qubits under control. Silicon integrated circuits can be operated at a temperature stage of a cryogenic system where cooling power is sufficient ($\sim$3.5+ K) to allow for analog signal chain components (e.g. amplifiers and mixers), local signal synthesis, signal digitization, and control logic. A critical stage in cryo-electronics development is the characterization of individual transistor devices in a particular technology node at cryogenic temperatures. This data enables the creation of a process design kit (PDK) to model devices and simulate integrated circuits operating well below the minimum standard temperature ranges covered by foundry-released models (e.g. -55 {\deg}C). Here, an efficient approach to the characterization of large numbers of components at cryogenic temperature is reported. Abstract: Continuous adaptation to variable environments is crucial for the survival of living organisms. Here, we analyze how adaptation, forecasting, and resource mobilization towards a target state, termed actionability, interact to determine biological function. We develop a general theory and show that it is possible for organisms to continuously track their optimal state in a dynamic environment by adapting towards an actionable target that incorporates just current information on the optimal state and its rate of change. If the environmental information is precise and readily actionable, it is possible to implement perfect tracking without anticipatory mechanisms, irrespective of the adaptation rate. In contrast, predictive functions, like those of circadian rhythms, are beneficial if sensing the environment is slow or unreliable, as they allow better adaptation with fewer resources. Abstract: KM2A is one of the main sub-arrays of LHAASO, working on gamma ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics at energies above 10 TeV. Detector simulation is the important foundation for estimating detector performance and data analysis. It is a big challenge to simulate the KM2A detector in the framework of Geant4 due to the need to track numerous photons from a large number of detector units (>6000) with large altitude difference (30 m) and huge coverage (1.3 km^2). In this paper, the design of the KM2A simulation code G4KM2A based on Geant4 is introduced. The process of G4KM2A is optimized mainly in memory consumption to avoid memory overffow. Some simpliffcations are used to signiffcantly speed up the execution of G4KM2A. The running time is reduced by at least 30 times compared to full detector simulation. The particle distributions and the core/angle resolution comparison between simulation and experimental data of the full KM2A array are also presented, which show good agreement.

Abstract: We present the measurements of all-particle energy spectrum and mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays in the energy range of 0.3-30 PeV using data collected from LHAASO-KM2A between September 2021 and December 2022, which is based on a nearly composition-independent energy reconstruction method, achieving unprecedented accuracy. Our analysis reveals the position of the knee at $3.67 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.15$ PeV. Below the knee, the spectral index is found to be -$2.7413 \pm 0.0004 \pm 0.0050$, while above the knee, it is -$3.128 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.027$, with the sharpness of the transition measured with a statistical error of 2%. The mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays is almost heavier than helium in the whole measured energy range. It decreases from 1.7 at 0.3 PeV to 1.3 at 3 PeV, representing a 24% decline following a power law with an index of -$0.1200 \pm 0.0003 \pm 0.0341$. This is equivalent to an increase in abundance of light components. Above the knee, the mean logarithmic mass exhibits a power law trend towards heavier components, which is reversal to the behavior observed in the all-particle energy spectrum. Additionally, the knee position and the change in power-law index are approximately the same. These findings suggest that the knee observed in the all-particle spectrum corresponds to the knee of the light component, rather than the medium-heavy components., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: SrTiO$_3$-based conducting interfaces, which exhibit coexistence of gate-tunable 2D superconductivity and strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC), are candidates to host topological superconductive phases. Yet, superconductivity is usually in the dirty limit, which tends to suppress nonconventional pairing and therefore challenges these expectations. Here we report on LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ (LAO/STO) interfaces with remarkably large mobility and mean free paths comparable to the superconducting coherence length, approaching the clean limit for superconductivity. We further show that the carrier density, mobility, and formation of the superconducting condensate are controlled by the fine-tuning of La/Al chemical ratio in the LAO film. Interestingly, we find a region in the superconducting phase diagram where the critical temperature is not suppressed below the Lifshitz transition, at odds with previous experimental investigations. These findings point out the relevance of achieving a clean-limit regime to enhance the observation of unconventional pairing mechanisms in these systems

26. Inorganic/inorganic composites through emulsion templating

Abstract: Inorganic/inorganic composites are found in multiple applications crucial for the energy transition, from nuclear reactor to energy storage devices. Their microstructures dictate a number of properties, such as mass transport or fracture resistance. There has been a multitude of process developed to control the microstructure of inorganic/inorganic composites, from powder mixing and the use of short or long fibre, to tape casting for laminates up to recently 3D printing. Here, we combined emulsions and slip casting into a simpler, broadly available, inexpensive processing platform that allow for in situ control of a composite's microstructure that also enables complex shaping. Emulsions are used to form droplets of controllable size of one inorganic phase into another, while slip casting enable 3D shaping of the final part. Our study shows that slip casting emulsions trigger a two-steps solvent removal that opens the possibility for conformal coating of porosity. By making magnetically responsive droplets, we form inorganic fibre inside an inorganic matrix during slip casting, demonstrating a simple fabrication for long-fibre reinforced composites. We exemplify the potential of this processing platform by making strong and lightweight alumina scaffolds reinforced by a confirmed zirconia coating and alumina with metallic iron fibres that displays work of fracture an order of magnitude higher than alumina.

Abstract: We describe a trifocal femur injury with intracapsular femoral neck fracture, diaphyseal fracture with bone loss, and distal complete articular (AO/OTA C type) fracture, an injury rarely described in the literature. Surgical management utilized a not-yet-reported implant combination: screw-side plate device for the intracapsular femoral neck, retrograde nail for the diaphysis, and lag screws plus mini fragment buttress plating for the distal fracture. The patient had uneventful fracture union with no changes in alignment. Given the rarity and complexity of this injury, there is little consensus on surgical technique and implant choice. This case demonstrates a modernized approach that may be useful for surgeons who encounter similar fracture patterns in their practice.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The incidence of periprosthetic distal femur fractures (PDFF) is increasing as the number of total knee replacements becomes more common. This study compared the demographics, fracture characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of periprosthetic versus native distal femur fractures (NDFF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients ≥ 18 who underwent surgical fixation of NDFF or PDFF from 2012 to 2020 at a level-1 trauma center. The main variables collected included demographics, AO/OTA fracture classification, fixation construct, concomitant fractures, polytrauma rates, bone density, and reduction quality. Primary outcomes were unexpected return to the operating room (UROR), hospital length of stay, and quality of reduction. T-tests, Fishers exact tests, and multivariate analyses were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: 209 patients were identified, including 70 PDFF and 139 NDFF. PDFF patients were elderly females (81%) with isolated (80%) and comminuted (85%) 33 A.3 (71%) fractures. NDFF patients included 53% females, were commonly middle-aged, and displayed comminuted (92%) 33 C.2 fractures. 48% of NDFF patients had concomitant fractures. Abstract: Intramedullary nailing is considered the gold-standard treatment for tibial shaft fractures. The goals of treatment for these fractures are correction of axial and rotational alignment and adequate mechanical stability, allowing for optimal healing. The nail is secured in place using screws or other fasteners that are placed through the bone and into the nail itself.2 Another benefit is the ability to preserve the soft tissue around the fracture to safeguard the extraosseous blood supply and minimize soft tissue damage.3 In reference to tibial intramedullary nailing, a start point is the location where a hole is drilled in the tibia to insert the intramedullary nail. The ideal starting point for guide wire placement for the average tibia is described as 2 mm medial to the lateral tibial eminence on AP imaging and just anterior to articular surface and parallel to the anterior tibia cortex on lateral imaging.6,7 It is a critical part of the procedure because it determines the trajectory and positioning of the nail within the medullary canal.7 Having a good, ideal starting point can prevent valgus angulation and translation at the fracture site. If the start point is too far off center or at the wrong angle, the nail may be inserted incorrectly and not provide the necessary support for the bone to heal, leading to malalignment or nonunion. It is believed that different approaches to tibial intramedullary nailing may have differing abilities to achieve an optimal start point due to associated anatomical visualization and access. These approaches include suprapatellar, parapatellar, and infrapatellar nailing. The suprapatellar approach involves making an incision above the patella and placing instruments across the patellofemoral joint, potentially damaging the joint surface. However, the nail can be inserted at the start point with the knee extended, which leads to better alignment and stability of the fractured bone. Most importantly, the main advantage of the suprapatellar approach is that it reduces anterior angulation by eliminating the extension force of the quadriceps and aids fracture reduction by preventing proximal fragment migration.4,5 The parapatellar approach, proven to be effective and reliable, involves making a smaller incision below the patella with the knee in hyperflexion. This approach is less invasive than the suprapatellar approach regarding the patellofemoral joint, but the patellar tendon needs to be circumnavigated leading to potential for higher incidence of anterior knee pain.6 Also, it can be more difficult to achieve proper alignment and increases the risk of apex anterior deformities.4 The infrapatellar approach is split into transtendinous approach and paratendinous approach where the starting point is established by splitting the patellar tendon or making an incision on either side of the knee, respectively.6 This approach provides good visualization, but it can increase the risk of damage to the patellar tendon and other soft tissue structures around the knee.

Abstract: It is shown that the complex Bernoulli differential equations admitting the supplementary structure of a Lie-Hamilton system related to the book algebra $\mathfrak{b}_2$ can always be solved by quadratures, providing an explicit solution of the equations. In addition, considering the quantum deformation of Bernoulli equations, their canonical form is obtained and an exact solution by quadratures is deduced as well. It is further shown that the approximations of $k^{th}$-order in the deformation parameter from the quantum deformation are also integrable by quadratures, although an explicit solution cannot be obtained in general. Abstract: Two-dimensional electron gases(2DEGs)based on KTaO3 are emerging as a promising platform for spin-orbitronics due to their high Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and gate-voltage tunability. The recent discovery of a superconducting state in KTaO3 2DEGs now expands their potential towards topological superconductivity. Although the band structure of KTaO3 surfaces of various crystallographic orientations has already been mapped using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES), this is not the case for superconducting KTaO3 2DEGs. Here, we reveal the electronic structure of superconducting 2DEGs based on KTaO3 (111) single crystals through ARPES measurements. Abstract: Quantum computers are nearing the thousand qubit mark, with the current focus on scaling to improve computational performance. As quantum processors grow in complexity, new challenges arise such as the management of device variability and the interface with supporting electronics. Spin qubits in silicon quantum dots are poised to address these challenges with their proven control fidelities and potential for compatibility with large-scale integration. Here, we demonstrate the integration of 1024 silicon quantum dots with on-chip digital and analogue electronics, all operating below 1 K. A high-frequency analogue multiplexer provides fast access to all devices with minimal electrical connections, enabling characteristic data across the quantum dot array to be acquired in just 5 minutes. We achieve this by leveraging radio-frequency reflectometry with state-of-the-art signal integrity, reaching a minimum integration time of 160 ps. Key quantum dot parameters are extracted by fast automated machine learning routines to assess quantum dot yield and understand the impact of device design. We find correlations between quantum dot parameters and room temperature transistor behaviour that may be used as a proxy for in-line process monitoring. Abstract: For decades, supernova remnants (SNRs) have been considered the prime sources of Galactic Cosmic rays (CRs). But whether SNRs can accelerate CR protons to PeV energies and thus dominate CR flux up to the knee is currently under intensive theoretical and phenomenological debate. The direct test of the ability of SNRs to operate as CR PeVatrons can be provided by ultrahigh-energy (UHE; $E_\gamma \geq 100$~TeV) $\gamma$-rays. In this context, the historical SNR Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is considered one of the most promising target for UHE observations. This paper presents the observation of Cas A and its vicinity by the LHAASO KM2A detector. The exceptional sensitivity of LHAASO KM2A in the UHE band, combined with the young age of Cas A, enabled us to derive stringent model-independent limits on the energy budget of UHE protons and nuclei accelerated by Cas A at any epoch after the explosion. Abstract: Silicon technology offers the enticing opportunity for monolithic integration of quantum and classical electronic circuits. However, the power consumption levels of classical electronics may compromise the local chip temperature and hence the fidelity of qubit operations. Here, we utilize a quantum-dot-based thermometer embedded in an industry-standard silicon field-effect transistor (FET), to assess the local temperature increase produced by an active FET placed in close proximity. We study the impact of both static and dynamic operation regimes. When the FET is operated statically, we find a power budget of 45 nW at 100 nm separation whereas at 216 $\mu$m the power budget raises to 150 $\mu$W. When operated dynamically, we observe negligible temperature increase for the switch frequencies tested up to 10 MHz. Our work describes a method to accurately map out the available power budget at a distance from a solid-state quantum processor and indicate under which conditions cryoelectronics circuits may allow the operation of hybrid quantum-classical systems.

Abstract: The highest energy gamma-rays from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have important implications for their radiation mechanism. Here we report for the first time the detection of gamma-rays up to 13 TeV from the brightest GRB 221009A by the Large High Altitude Air-shower Observatory (LHAASO). The LHAASO-KM2A detector registered more than 140 gamma-rays with energies above 3 TeV during 230$-$900s after the trigger. The intrinsic energy spectrum of gamma-rays can be described by a power-law after correcting for extragalactic background light (EBL) absorption. Such a hard spectrum challenges the synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) scenario of relativistic electrons for the afterglow emission above several TeV. Observations of gamma-rays up to 13 TeV from a source with a measured redshift of z=0.151 hints more transparency in intergalactic space than previously expected. 46. Generalized time-dependent SIS Hamiltonian models: Exact solutions and quantum deformations

Abstract: The theory of Lie-Hamilton systems is used to construct generalized time-dependent SIS epidemic Hamiltonians with a variable infection rate from the 'book' Lie algebra. Although these are characterized by a set of non-autonomous nonlinear and coupled differential equations, their corresponding exact solution is explicitly found. Moreover, the quantum deformation of the book algebra is also considered, from which the corresponding deformed SIS Hamiltonians are obtained and interpreted as perturbations in terms of the quantum deformation parameter of previously known SIS systems. 47. Preclinical models of orthopaedic trauma: Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) and Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) symposium 2022.

Abstract: Orthopaedic trauma remains a leading cause of patient morbidity, mortality, and global health care burden. Although significant advances have been made in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of these injuries, complications such as malunion, nonunion, infection, disuse muscle atrophy and osteopenia, and incomplete return to baseline function still occur. The significant inherent clinical variability in fracture care such as differing patient demographics, injury patterns, and treatment protocols make standardized and replicable study, especially of cellular and molecular based mechanisms, nearly impossible. Hence, the scientists dedicated to improving therapy and treatments for patients with orthopaedic trauma rely on preclinical models. Preclinical models have proven to be invaluable in understanding the timing between implant insertion and bacterial inoculation on the bioburden of infection. Posttraumatic arthritis (PTOA) can take years to develop clinically, but with a porcine pilon fracture model, posttraumatic arthritis can be reliably induced, so different surgical and therapeutic strategies can be tested in prevention. Conversely, the racehorse presents a well-accepted model of naturally occurring PTOA. With preclinical polytrauma models focusing on chest injury, abdominal injury, multiple fractures, and/or head injury, one can study how various injury patterns affect fracture healing can be systemically studied. Finally, these preclinical models serve as a translational bridge to for clinical application in human patients. With selection of the right preclinical model, studies can build a platform to decrease the risk of emerging technologies and provide foundational support for therapeutic clinical trials. In summary, orthopaedic trauma preclinical models allow scientists to simplify a complex clinical challenge, to understand the basic pathways starting with lower vertebrate models. Then, R&D efforts progress to higher vertebrate models to build in more complexity for translation of findings to the clinical practice.

48. Can Artificial Intelligence Fool Residency Selection Committees? Analysis of Personal Statements by Real Applicants and Generative AI, a Randomized, Single-Blind Multicenter Study.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The potential capabilities of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools have been relatively unexplored, particularly in the realm of creating personalized statements for medical students applying to residencies. This study aimed to investigate the ability of generative AI, specifically ChatGPT and Google BARD, to generate personal statements and assess whether faculty on residency selection committees could (1) evaluate differences between real and AI statements and (2) determine differences based on 13 defined and specific metrics of a personal statement. METHODS: Fifteen real personal statements were used to generate 15 unique and distinct personal statements from ChatGPT and BARD each, resulting in a total of 45 statements. Statements were then randomized, blinded, and presented to a group of faculty reviewers on residency selection committees. Reviewers assessed the statements by 14 metrics including if the personal statement was AI-generated or real. Comparison of all metrics was performed. RESULTS: Faculty correctly identified 88% (79/90) real statements, 90% (81/90) BARD, and 44% (40/90) ChatGPT statements. Accuracy of identifying real and BARD statements was 89%, but this dropped to 74% when including ChatGPT. In addition, the accuracy did not increase as faculty members reviewed more personal statements (area under the curve [AUC] 0.498, p = 0.966). BARD performed poorer than both real and ChatGPT across all metrics (p < 0.001). Comparing real with ChatGPT, there was no difference in most metrics, except for Personal Interests, Reasons for Choosing Residency, Career Goals, Compelling Nature and Originality, and all favoring the real personal statements (p = 0.001, p = 0.002, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Faculty members accurately identified real and BARD statements, but ChatGPT deceived them 56% of the time. Although AI can craft convincing statements that are sometimes indistinguishable from real ones, replicating the humanistic experience, personal nuances, and individualistic elements found in real personal statements is difficult. Residency selection committees might want to prioritize these particular metrics while assessing personal statements, given the growing capabilities of AI in this arena. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Residency selection committees may want to prioritize certain metrics unique to the human element such as personal interests, reasons for choosing residency, career goals, compelling nature, and originality when evaluating personal statements.

49. Temporary Stabilization of Tibia Fractures: Does External Fixation or Temporary Plate Fixation Result in Better Outcomes?

Abstract: BackgroundProvisional stabilization of high-energy tibia fractures using temporary plate fixation (TPF) or external fixation (ex-fix) prior to definitive medullary nailing (MN) is a strategy common in damage control orthopaedics. There is a lack of comprehensive data evaluating outcomes between these methods. This study compares outcomes of patients stabilized with either TPF or ex-fix, and with early definitive MN only, assessing complications including nonunion and deep infection.MethodsA retrospective review was performed on adult patients with tibia fractures treated with MN followed until fracture union (≥3 months) at a single level-1 trauma center from 2014 to 2022. Medical records were evaluated for nonunion and deep infection. Demographics, injury characteristics, and fixation methods were recorded. Significance between patients who underwent TPF and ex-fix was compared with a matched cohort of early MN using Pearsons exact tests, independent t-tests, and one-way ANOVA, depending on the appropriate variable.Results81 patients were included; 27 were temporized with TPF (n = 12) or ex-fix (n = 15). 54 early MN cases defined the matched cohort. All groups had similar patient and fracture characteristics. The difference in rates of nonunion between groups was significant, with TPF, ex-fix, and early MN groups at 17, 40, and 11% respectively (p = 0.027). Early MN had lower rates of nonunion (11% vs. 40%, p = 0.017) and deep infection (13% vs. 40%, p = 0.028) compared to ex-fix.ConclusionTemporary ex-fix followed by staged MN was associated with higher rates of nonunion and deep infection. There was no difference in complication rates between TPF and early definitive MN. These data suggest that ex-fix followed by MN of tibia fractures should be avoided in favor of early definitive MN when possible. If temporization is needed, TPF may be a better option than ex-fix. 50. Effect of ALDH1A1 and CD44 on Survival and Disease Recurrence in Patients With Osteosarcoma.

Abstract: PURPOSE: Emerging evidence suggests that osteosarcoma stem cells (OSCs) may be responsible for tumor initiation propagation, recurrence, and resistance to therapy. We set out to evaluate the relationship between the abundance of ALDH1A1 and CD44-positive cells in biopsy and resection samples on disease recurrence and overall survival. METHODS: A retrospective review of 20 patients, including biopsy and resection samples, was performed at a comprehensive cancer center. Additionally, we queried the publicly available TARGET dataset of osteosarcoma patients. RESULTS: Neither the percentages of ALDH1A1-positive cells nor CD44-positive cells were significantly associated with overall mortality or disease recurrence in either biopsy or resection samples. Unlike our institutional data, overall survival was significantly correlated to higher ALDH1A1 expression in the TARGET dataset both in univariate and age-adjusted analyses. CONCLUSIONS: ADLH1 and CD44, potential markers of OSCs, were not found to be reliable clinical immunohistochemical prognostic markers for osteosarcoma patient survival, specifically disease-free survival. Osteosarcoma patients with high ALDH1A1 RNA expression showed improved overall survival in examining a national genomic database of osteosarcoma patients but again no association with disease-free survival. The potential of CD44 and ALDH1A1 as cellular-specific prognostic markers of survival, and as possible molecular targets, may be limited in osteosarcoma.
