Abstract

The swiftness in the speed of construction work is the present scenario's need to meet the infrastructure demand due to rise in industrialization and urbanization. Various admixtures are being used to produce mortar/concrete with acceleration in stiffening of cement composites and requisite strength at early age. However, due to industrialization, the generation and dumping of stone wastes in different forms from stone industries has become menace to the ecosystem. To overcome their ill effects, a possible solution can be reuse of these wastes into the construction sector as it can absorb huge waste. This study used stone slurry powder as cement substitution; calcium nitrate and triethanolamine as additives in different proportions individually and in combination to investigate their practicality in cement mortar. The environmental assessment of additives in mortar mixes was also carried out along with the microstructural analysis. Results demonstrated that water cured specimens had higher compressive strength and air cured specimens had higher electrical resistivity values. The stone powder was predominant among all additives in the performance enhancement in terms of strength, chemical resistance and environmental assessment of mortar mixes as compared to other additives.

Abstract

Background: Aortic stenosis (AS) is frequently identified at an advanced stage after clinical symptoms appear. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for AS screening. Methods: We conducted a thorough search of six databases. Several evaluation parameters, such as sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), positive likelihood ratio (PLR), and area under the curve (AUC) value were employed in the diagnostic meta-analysis of AI-based algorithms for AS screening. The AI algorithms utilized diverse data sources including electrocardiograms (ECG), chest radiographs, auscultation audio files, electronic stethoscope recordings, and cardio-mechanical signals from non-invasive wearable inertial sensors. Results: Of the 295 articles identified, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. The pooled estimates for AI-based algorithms in diagnosing AS were as follows: sensitivity 0.83 (95% CI: 0.81-0.85), specificity 0.81 (95% CI: 0.79-0.84), PLR 4.78 (95% CI: 3.12-7.32), NLR 0.20 (95% CI: 0.13-0.28), and DOR 27.11 (95% CI: 14.40-51.05). The AUC value was 0.909 (95% CI: 0.889-0.929), indicating outstanding diagnostic accuracy. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses showed that continent, type of AS, data source, and type of AI-based method constituted sources of heterogeneity. Furthermore, we demonstrated proof of publication bias for DOR values analyzed using Egger's regression test (P = 0.002) and a funnel plot. Conclusion: Deep learning approaches represent highly sensitive, feasible, and scalable strategies to identify patients with moderate or severe AS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This research investigated the performance of ternary blended cement mortars containing recycle brick powder, ground granulated blast furnace slag and nano-silica experimentally and statistically. The Taguchi method was employed to create a design of experiment with L16 Taguchi array for blended mixes. Analysis of the experimental results was evaluated by analysis of variance and used to determine the statistical effect of parameters. In the construction industry, the major portion of demolition contains brick waste that requires a huge area for disposal and also causes environmental pollution. In this study, various blended mortar samples with different levels of recycled brick clay (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%), ground granulated blast furnace slag (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%) and nano silica (0%, 2%, 4% and 6%) were produced and their compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, dynamic young modulus, water absorption and permeable pores were determined. Recorded parameters revealed that mixtures blended with 10% RBP, 20% GGBFS and 6% NS (MR10G20NS6) give maximum compressive strength; whereas, mixtures blended with 15% RBP, 60% GGBFS and 0% NS (MR15G60NS0) exhibit minimum embodied energy, carbon emission and cost involved in production. Abstract

Self-compacting concrete or self-consolidated concrete is a highly flowable, non-segregating concrete which spreads into congested reinforcement area and fills the formwork without the use of any vibrators. Self-compacting concrete allows denser reinforcement, optimized concrete section and shapes, and greater degree of freedom. It has the advantages of maintaining the durability and characteristics and meeting expected performance requirements. It has been used ideally in bridges, drilled shaft, and earth-retaining structure, columns and area with high concentration of rebars and pipes. The self-compacting concrete improves constructability, reduces skilled labor and noise level, minimizes the voids in highly reinforced area, gives superior strength and durability and smooth and uniform surface finishing and accelerates the project schedules. In the present study, various mineral admixtures, i.e., ground-granulated blast-furnace slag, limestone powder, silica fume, fly ash and chemical admixtures such as sulfonated melamine formaldehyde condensate, melamine formaldehyde, sulfonated naphthalene formaldehyde condensates and polycarboxylate ether-based superplasticizer, have been studied in the self-compacting concrete. A critical review of the effect of combination of these mineral and chemical admixtures on various rheological, strength and durability properties of the self-compacting concrete is presented in this paper.
