Orthopedic correction of skeletal Class III malocclusion in a growing patient is crucial as it can circumvent future surgical procedures. Further, as surgery is done only at a later stage, early treatment helps to avoid the detrimental effects produced by the facial disfigurement on the patient's social life. This case report describes the treatment of a child aged 9 years 6 months who had a skeletal Class III malocclusion. The treatment plan involved the use of a reverse pull headgear (facemask) and multibracket appliance therapy resulting in successful correction of the malocclusion. The treatment results were highly satisfactory resulting in improved facial esthetics, a skeletal Class I with a Dental Class I molar and canine relationship, an ideal overjet and overbite. Thus, dentoalveolar camouflage, if done in properly selected cases, alleviates the need for surgical intervention. Critical examination of the experimental data from 156Nd and 156Pm β decays and the observed location of relevant neutron and proton orbitals in the neighboring odd-A isotones and isotopes, taken together with the low-lying two-quasiparticle (2qp) structures expected in 156Pm from the rotor-particle model, lead to the conclusion that a consistent description of all the available data is achieved with the Iπ=4+ spin-parity assignment to the 26.7s 156Pm ground state (g.s.) and assignment of Iπ=1+ to its 150.3-keV isomer with the 2qp configuration 4g.s.+{po:5/2[532↑]±no:3/2[521↑]}1150+. In the process, a two-neutron configuration is also suggested for the 1509-keV 4+ level in the daughter nucleus 156Sm. The present analysis reiterates the important question of whether the β-decay log ft value, by itself, can be employed to deduce the relative parity of the β-connected states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Low-lying two-quasiparticle bandhead energies for the Z = 99 odd-odd nucleus 254Es are evaluated using a simple phenomenological model with the inclusion of the residual p- n interaction. Configurations of the intrinsic levels directly fed in 254Es from the parent 258Md are discussed in the light of this model. Our analysis predicts the occurrence of ten K≤5 bandheads in 254Es with excitation energies E x≤300keV. Structures of these as yet unidentified low-lying intrinsic levels and their expected locations are discussed in the light of available experimental information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The decay of 75Se to levels of 75As has been studied using an HPGe detector for gamma-ray and a mini-orange electron spectrometer for conversion electron measurements. We identify 38 transitions in this decay, including 18 gamma rays and 16 conversion electron lines reported for the first time. New results also include E2 multipolarity assignment for the 81 keV transition, M1 assignment to three newly observed transitions and M1 + E2 for the 617 keV transition. A revised 75As level scheme is constructed using the Ritz combination principle through the computer code GTOL. While confirming the existence of 10 well-established levels, two levels at 587 and 859 keV are newly placed into the decay scheme of 75Se. The interpretation of the observed levels in terms of various theoretical approaches is briefly discussed. The newly placed 586.8 keV 1/2- and 859.9 keV 1/2+ levels are studied in the light of the Interacting Boson-Fermion Model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The low-energy two-quasiparticle bandhead energies for the odd-odd Z = 101 nucleus [sup 250]Md are evaluated using a zero range residual neutron-proton interaction. The [sup 250]Md ground state is seen to have the spin-parity I[sup π] = 0[sup -] corresponding to the singlet band from the configuration {p: 7/2[514] ⊗ n : 7/2[624]} in violation of the GallagherMoszkowski (GM) coupling rule. The situation here is shown to be almost identical to that for the rare-earth nucleus [sup 166]Ho, which is the only well-established exception to the GM rule known so far. Analysis of the expected low energy spectrum, including the rotational levels, for 25°Md reveals the occurrence of an as-yet-unobserved long-lived high-spin I[sup π] = 7[sup -] isomeric state around (80 ± 30) keV with dominant ε and α decay modes. Abstract: The decay of 131Ba to levels of 131Cs has been studied using an HPGe detector for gamma-ray and a mini-orange electron spectrometer for conversion electron measurements. Our experiment identifies 76 gamma transitions in this decay, including 15 new gamma rays and 6 new K-conversion electron lines. The results also include M2 multipolarity assignment for the 269keV transition, E2 assignment to two newly observed transitions, for the 406 and 417keV transitions and M3 for the 533.67keV transition. A revised 131Cs level scheme is proposed. While confirming the existence of 15 well-established levels, we present strong evidence from our beta decay study for five levels at 496, 764, 775, 1044 and 1258keV which were earlier observed in reaction studies. Spin–parity assignments to a few other levels are also suggested. The level structure of 131Cs is discussed in the light of the intermediate coupling model. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Lifetimes of the excited states of a pair of positive-parity ΔI=2 bands of 107Cd have been measured by using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The obtained B(E2) transition rates significantly decrease with increasing spin, a behavior typical of antimagnetic rotation (AMR). The observed results, interpreted by the semiclassical model (SCM) calculations, confirm these bands to be AMR bands resulting from the coupling of a pair of high-Ω g9/2 proton holes to aligned g7/2(h11/2)² neutron particles. Abstract: The decay of 124Sb (60d half-life) to levels of 124Te has been studied using two HPGe detectors in singles and coincidence mode. We identify 75 transitions in this decay, including 14 gamma rays, the emission of which are being reported here for the first time. In confirming the existence of 26 well-established levels below 2900keV excitation, we also introduce 5 other levels at 2490.5, 2618.4, 2747.05, 2834.99, and 2859.4keV. Aim: This study aimed to compare the efficiency of various sterilization procedures using conventional spore monitoring method, i.e., by using swab test and biological indicators and to determine the efficiency of cold sterilization by using Bioclenz-G (2% glutaraldehyde) solution., Materials and Methods: Each group was divided into medium load (containing 15 sets of instruments) and heavy load (containing 30 sets of instruments). Each group was tested 15 times for medium and heavy loads. Two groups are swab tested control group and experimental group with three different methods of sterilization: hot air oven, cold sterilization, and ethylene dioxide sterilization., Results: Spores were present in all the groups tested for 10 minutes cycle, in comparison with no spore growth in any of the groups tested for a 10-hour cycle., Conclusion: All methods of sterilization showed complete sterilization of instruments when monitored with biological indicators. One group of heavy load in steam autoclave and one group each of medium load and heavy load in hot air oven sterilizer showed sterilization failure when monitored with the conventional swab test method., Clinical Significance: This study proves the efficacy and durability of various sterilization procedures.
