In this study, it is aimed to present whether or not Turkish high school students' attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help is effected by gender, whether or not having any prior psychological experience, perceived parental attitude and parents' education level. Research group is composed of total of 301 students, educated at high schools in Burdur. The data have been obtained by SAPPH (Attitude Scale towards Professional Psychological Help) developed by researchers. According to research results, girls those who previously obtained professional psychological help and with democratically perceived parental attitudes have more positive attitudes towards professional psychological help. No difference has been observed between attitudes toward professional psychological help based on parents' education level. (Contains 5 tables.) BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment (CI), which has been reported in COPD, has been related to physical performance. However, the association between CI and upper-extremity functions is unknown. We aimed to compare upper-extremity exercise capacity and grip strength between subjects with COPD with and without CI and to determine the relationship of upper-extremity functions with specific cognitive domains. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 76 subjects with COPD (mean age 66.8 ± 7.5 y, FEV1% 47.12 ± 14.10) were classified as with and without CI according to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Clinical characteristics, upper-extremity exercise capacity (6-min pegboard ring test [6PBRT]), grip strength (hand dynamometer), dyspnea severity (modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale), disease-specific health status (COPD Assessment Test), and disease-specific quality of life (St George Respiratory Questionnaire) were compared between groups, and the relationship of upper-extremity functions with cognitive subdomains was analyzed by multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS: The number of 6PBRT rings (P = .01) and the grip strength (P = .033) were lower in subjects with CI. Subjects with CI had lower FEV1% (P = .038), arterial oxygenation (P = .002), exercise habits (P = .033), health status (P = .01), quality of life (P = .042); and higher dyspnea (P < .001), smoking consumption (P = .032), emergency admission (P = .02), and hospitalization (P = .042). The adjusted model showed that executive functions and attention were related to upper-extremity capacity (β = 14.4 and β = 10.2, respectively) and hand-grip strength (β = 1.85 and β = 1.49, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that upper-extremity functions might be decreased especially concerning executive functions and attention in subjects with COPD with CI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In present study, "development tasks supporting scale" (DTSS) for fathers has been developed. Study group consists of 205 fathers with children between ages 3-6 attending pre-school education institutions. Validity and reliability tests have been conducted on the 36-item trial form of the scale. For the validity test, expert views, explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis, bottom and top 27% group discrimination and item total correlation coefficients have been calculated. At the end of explanatory factor analysis, a structure with 17 items and five dimensions has been obtained. Five dimensions explain 64.46% of the total variance. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), it has been determined that compatibility statistics of scale are [RMSEA (0.03), RMR (0.07) and SRMR (0.05), GFI (0.93), AGFI (0.89), NNFI (0.98), CFI (0.98)] near perfection. Cronbach alpha value of the reliability of scale has been calculated as 0.84 and re-tests reliability as 0.86. (Contains 1 figure and 1 table.)

Aim: Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) have been discussed intensively in recent years as two different entities. We aimed to compare the clinical, functional and respiratory parameters, clinical course and mortality rates of patients with CPFE and IPF. Materials and Methods: 36 patients with a diagnosis of CPFE and 40 IPF who applied between September 2013 and February 2019 were retrospectively included in the study. Demographic data, comorbidities, pulmonary function parameters, mortality, systolic pulmonary artery pressures(sPAP) recorded. Results: In the CPFE patient group, the ratio of male patients (p=0.02), smoking history (p=0.00), frequency of acute exacerbation (p=0.001) were found to be significantly higher, SF-36 total score (p=0.000) were significantly lower than IPF group. While FVC% (p=0.00), FEV1% (p=0.049) and TLC% (p=0.002) were significantly higher in the CPFE group than IPF group, TLCO% (p=0.002) and FEV1/FVC (p=0.00) was lower. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) was 40% in CPFE and 37% in IPF and no significant difference was found between them (p=0.806). Those who received long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) were more common in the CPFE group (p=0.04). In CPFE patients; the percentage of those who treated with bronchodilator, antifibrotic, systemic corticosteroid was respectively 52.7%, 36.1%, 5.6%. Mortality from any cause was 9(25%) in CPFE and 8(20%) in IPF, and there was no significant difference between the two groups (p=0.601). Conclusion: It was observed that lung volumes were preserved and gas exchange of the lung was significantly decreased in patients with CPFE. Compared to IPF, the quality of life was lower and acute exacerbation was more common in CPFE. The frequency of PH and mortality were similar in both groups. Male gender and smoking history were important risk factors for CPFE patients. There is a need for multicenter studies reporting the clinical features, prognosis, and mortality of CPFE. Objective: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an important therapeutic approach in asthmatic patients. Lack of asthma control is associated with high morbidity, poor health outcomes, and decrease in quality of life (QOL). However, there is no clear information about the effectiveness of PR in patients with differing levels of asthma control. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of PR in patients with uncontrolled and partially controlled asthma. Methods: Before undergoing an 8-week outpatient PR program, patients were classified according to the asthma control test (ACT) as having partially controlled asthma or uncontrolled asthma. Changes in asthma control, exercise capacity, dyspnea perception, pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas analysis, QOL, and psychological symptoms before and after PR were compared between groups. Results: A total of 49 patients, 21 of whom were in partially controlled and the rest 28 were in uncontrolled asthma, participated in the study. After PR, asthma control perceived dyspnea, exercise capacity, QOL, anxiety, and depression significantly improved in both groups (p < 0.05). When the two groups were compared in terms of the benefits of PR, the improvement in ACT score was significantly greater in patients with uncontrolled asthma than in partially controlled asthma (p < 0.001), whereas the improvements in other parameters were similar between groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Improvement in asthma control is greater in patients with uncontrolled asthma than in patients with partially controlled asthma after PR. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not only associated with respiratory system involvement but also with systemic consequences leading to chronic comorbidities. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of comorbidity severity on pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) outcomes in COPD patients. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to compare the effectiveness of PR in COPD patients who completed an 8-week PR program. There were at least one comorbid in 120 of 211 patients and we divided them into the groups according to Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) scores (1 points, group 1 (n = 54); 2 points, group 2 (n = 41); 3 points, group 3 (n = 25)). We compared 6-minute walk distance (MWD), dyspnea perception, pulmonary function tests, blood gases analysis, quality of life, anxiety, and depression scores which were recorded before and after PR between the groups. Before PR 6-MWD distance was significantly lower in group 2 (p = 0.033). Improvements in 6-MWD, blood gas values, dyspnea perception, quality of life, and anxiety were determined in all groups after PR (p < 0.05). When the gains after PR were compared, there were no significant differences between groups (p > 0.05). COPD patients benefit from PR independent from their comorbidity severity. Comorbidity severity has no effect on PR gains. Therefore, patients with comorbidities should not be excluded from PR programs and encouraged to participate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
