High redshift blazars are among the most powerful non-explosive sources in the Universe and play a crucial role in understanding the evolution of relativistic jets. To understand these bright objects, we performed a detailed investigation of the multiwavelength properties of 79 γ-ray blazars with redshifts ranging from z = 2.0 to 2.5, using data from Fermi LAT, Swift XRT / UVOT , and NuSTAR observations. In the γ-ray band, the spectral analysis revealed a wide range of flux and photon indices, from 5.32 × 10−10 to 3.40 × 10−7 photon cm−2 s−1 and from 1.66 to 3.15, respectively, highlighting the diverse nature of these sources. The detailed temporal analysis showed that flaring activities were observed in 31 sources. Sources such as 4C+71.07, PKS 1329-049, and 4C + 01.02, demonstrated significant increase in the γ-ray luminosity and flux variations, reaching peak luminosity exceeding 1050 erg s−1. The temporal analysis extended to X-ray and optical/ultraviolet (UV) bands, showed clear flux changes in some sources in different observations. The time-averaged properties of high redshift blazars were derived through modeling the spectral energy distributions with a one-zone leptonic scenario, assuming the emission region is within the broad-line region (BLR) and the X-ray and γ-ray emissions are due to inverse Compton scattering of synchrotron and BLR-reflected photons. This modeling allowed us to constrain the emitting particle distribution, estimate the magnetic field inside the jet, and evaluate the jet luminosity, which is discussed in comparison with the disc luminosity derived from fitting the excess in the UV band. Microbial resistance to antibiotics is a serious challenge for both medicine and veterinary. Several mechanisms of antibiotic resistance development are known. Although, there are some approaches to overcome this threat, no final solution has been found yet. In this context, herbal preparations are of great interest due to their high therapeutic value, synergistic abilities with known antibiotics, and few side effects. Literature data suggest a number of plant species with antimicrobial properties against pathogenic, non-pathogenic, antibiotic-susceptible and resistant microbial strains. The present review considers literature data published within the last ten years concerning the most studied plant species of Lamiaceae family, possessing remarkable antimicrobial activity. The high redhsift blazars powered by supermassive black holes with masses exceeding 109 M⊙ have the highest jet power and luminosity and are important probes to test the physics of relativistic jets at the early epochs of the Universe. We present a multifrequency spectral and temporal study of high redshift blazar PKS 0537−286 by analysing data from Fermi - LAT, NuSTAR Swift XRT , and UVOT. Although the time averaged γ-ray spectrum of the source is relatively soft (indicating the high-energy emission peak is below the GeV range), several prominent flares were observed when the spectrum hardened and the luminosity increased above 1049 erg s−1. The X-ray emission of the source varies in different observations and is characterized by a hard spectrum ≤1.38 with a luminosity of >1047 erg s−1. The broad-band spectral energy distribution in the quiescent and flaring periods was modelled within a one-zone leptonic scenario assuming different locations of the emission region and considering both internal (synchrotron radiation) and external (from the disc, broad-line region, and dusty torus) photon fields for the inverse Compton scattering. The modelling shows that the most optimistic scenario, from the energy requirement point of view, is when the jet energy dissipation occurs within the broad-line region. The comparison of the model parameters obtained for the quiescent and flaring periods suggests that the flaring activities are most likely caused by the hardening of the emitting electron spectral index and shifting of the cut-off energy to higher values. The deepest all-sky survey available in the γ-ray band – the last release of the Fermi-LAT catalogue (4FGL-DR3) based on the data accumulated in 12 years contains more than 6600 sources. The largest population among the sources is blazar subclass – 3743, 60.1 per cent of which are classified as BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs) or Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs), while the rest are listed as blazar candidates of uncertain type (BCU) as their firm optical classification is lacking. The goal of this study is to classify BCUs using different machine learning algorithms, which are trained on the spectral and temporal properties of already classified BL Lacs and FSRQs. Artificial Neural Networks, XGBoost , and LightGBM algorithms are employed to construct predictive models for BCU classification. Using 18 input parameters of 2219 BL Lacs and FSRQs, we train (80 per cent of the sample) and test (20 per cent) these algorithms and find that LightGBM model, state-of-the-art classification algorithm based on gradient boosting decision trees, provides the highest performance. Based on our best model, we classify 825 BCUs as BL Lac candidates and 405 as FSRQ candidates, however, 190 remain without a clear prediction, but the percentage of BCUs in 4FGL is reduced to 5.1 per cent. The γ-ray photon index, synchrotron peak frequency, and high-energy peak frequency of a large sample are used to investigate the relationship between FSRQs and BL Lacs (LBLs, IBLs, and HBLs). The blazar PKS 0735+178 is possibly associated with multiple neutrino events observed by the IceCube, Baikal, Baksan, and KM3NeT neutrino telescopes while it was flaring in the γ-ray, X-ray, ultraviolet, and optical bands. We present a detailed study of this peculiar blazar to investigate the temporal and spectral changes in the multiwavelength emission when the neutrino events were observed. The analysis of Swift-XRT snapshots reveal a flux variability of more than a factor 2 in about 5 × 103 s during the observation on 2021 December 17. In the γ-ray band, the source was in its historical highest flux level at the time of the arrival of the neutrinos. The observational comparison between PKS 0735+178 and other neutrino source candidates, such as TXS 0506+056, PKS 1424+240, and GB6 J1542+6129, shows that all these sources share similar spectral energy distributions, very high radio and γ-ray powers, and parsec scale jet properties. Moreover, we present strong supporting evidence for PKS 0735+178 to be, like all the others, a masquerading BL Lac. We perform comprehensive modelling of the multiwavelength emission from PKS 0735+178 within one-zone lepto-hadronic models considering both internal and external photon fields and estimate the expected accompanying neutrino flux. The most optimistic scenario invokes a jet with luminosity close to the Eddington value and the interactions of ∼ PeV protons with an external UV photon field. This scenario predicts ∼0.067 muon and anti-muon neutrinos over the observed 3-week flare. Our results are consistent with the detection of one very high-energy neutrino like IceCube-211208A. We present long-term multiwavelength observations of blazar CTA 102 (⁠|$z$|  = 1.037). Detailed temporal and spectral analyses of γ-ray, X-ray, and UV/optical data observed by Fermi -LAT, Swift XRT, NuSTAR , and Swift -UVOT over a period of 14 yr, between 2008 August and 2022 March, were performed. We found strong variability of source emission in all the considered bands; especially in the γ-ray band it exhibited extreme outbursts when the flux crossed the level of 10−5 photon cm−2 s−1. Using the Bayesian Blocks algorithm, we split the adaptively binned γ-ray light curve into 347 intervals of quiescent and flaring episodes and for each period built corresponding multiwavelength spectral energy distributions (SEDs), using the available data. Among the considered SEDs, 117 high-quality (quasi) contemporaneous SEDs, which have sufficient multiwavelength data, were modelled using jetset framework within a one-zone leptonic synchrotron and inverse-Compton emission scenario assuming the emitting region is within the broad-line region and considering internal and external seed photons for the inverse-Compton upscattering. As a result of modelling, the characteristics of the relativistic electron distribution in the jet as well as jet properties are retrieved and their variation in time is investigated. The applied model can adequately explain the assembled SEDs and the modelling shows that the data in the bright flaring periods can be reproduced for high Doppler boosting and magnetic field. We present the results of an extensive analysis of the optical, ultraviolet, X-ray, and γ-ray data collected from the observations of the BL Lac objects prototype BL Lacertae carried out over a period of nearly 13 yr, between 2008 August and 2021 March. The source is characterized by strongly variable emission at all frequencies, often accompanied by spectral changes. In the γ-ray band several prominent flares have been detected, the largest one reaching the flux of F γ(> 196.7 MeV) = (4.39 ± 1.01) × 10−6 photon cm−2 s−1. The X-ray spectral variability of the source during the brightest flare on MJD 59128.18 (2020 October 6) was characterized by a softer-when-brighter trend due to a shift of the synchrotron peak to ∼1016 Hz, well into the HBL domain. The widely changing multiwavelength emission of BL Lacertae was systematically investigated by fitting leptonic models that include synchrotron self-Compton and external Compton components to 511 high-quality and quasi-simultaneous broad-band spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The majority of selected SEDs can be adequately fitted within a one-zone model with reasonable parameters. Only 46 SEDs with soft and bright X-ray spectra and when the source was observed in very high energy γ-ray bands can be explained in a two-zone leptonic scenario. The HBL behaviour observed during the brightest X-ray flare is interpreted as due to the emergence of synchrotron emission from freshly accelerated particles in a second emission zone located beyond the broad-line region. The results of a long-term multiwavelength study of the powerful flat spectrum radio quasar 3C 454.3 using Fermi -LAT and Swift XRT/UVOT data are reported. In the γ -ray band, Fermi -LAT observations show several major flares when the source flux was |$\gt 10^{-5}\, {\rm photon\, cm^{-2}\, s^{-1}}$|⁠ ; the peak γ -ray flux above 141.6 MeV, |$(9.22\pm 1.96)\times 10^{-5}\, {\rm photon\, cm^{-2}\, s^{-1}}$| observed on MJD 55519.33, corresponds to |$2.15\times 10^{50}\, {\rm erg\, s^{-1}}$| isotropic γ -ray luminosity. The analysis of Swift XRT and UVOT data revealed a flux increase, although with smaller amplitudes, also in the X-ray and optical/UV bands. The X-ray emission of 3C 454.3 is with a hard spectral index of ΓX = 1.16–1.75, and the flux in the flaring states increased up to |$(1.80\pm 0.18)\times 10^{-10}\, {\rm erg\, cm^{-2}\, s^{-1}}$|⁠. Through combining the analysed data, it was possible to assemble 362 high-quality and quasi-simultaneous spectral energy distributions of 3C 454.3 in 2008–2018, which all were modelled within a one-zone leptonic scenario assuming the emission region is within the broad-line region, involving synchrotron, synchrotron self-Compton, and external Compton mechanisms. Such an extensive modelling is the key for constraining the underlying emission mechanisms in the 3C 454.3 jet and allows to derive the physical parameters of the jet and investigate their evolution in time. The modelling suggests that during the flares, along with the variation of emitting electron parameters, the Doppler boosting factor increased substantially, implying that the emission in these periods has most likely originated in a faster moving region. We report the results of broadband observations of distant blazar PKS 0537-286 (z = 3.1) using data spanning more than ten years from the Fermi Large Area Telescope together with Swift UVOT/XRT archival data taken between 2005 and 2017. In the γ -ray band, the peak flux above 100 MeV, Fγ = (6 23 ± 0 56) ∙ 10-7 photon cm-2 s-1 observed on MJD 57874 within one week, corresponds to Lγ = 2 46 ∙ 1049 erg s-1 isotropic γ -ray luminosity. The Swift XRT data analyses show that the X-ray emission is characterized by a significantly hard photon index, ΓX-ray ≤ 1.3 , and an X-ray flux of 4 ∙ 10-12 erg cm-2 s-1, which is almost constant over twelve years. The spectral energy distribution is modeled within one-zone leptonic models assuming the emission region is within the broad-line region. The observed X-ray and γ -ray data are modeled as inverse Compton scattering of (i) only synchrotron photons and (ii) synchrotron and external photons on the electron population that produces the radioto-optical emission. The modeling shows that the nonthermal electrons in the jet of PKS 0537-286 have a hard power-law index (<1.9) and that the jet should be particle dominated with a luminosity within 1045-1046 erg s-1. High-redshift blazars are among the most powerful objects in the Universe. The spectral and temporal properties of 33 distant blazars (z > 2.5) detected in the high-energy γ-ray band are investigated by analysing the Fermi -LAT and Swift Ultraviolet and Optical Telescope/X-ray Telescope (UVOT/XRT) data. The considered sources have soft time-averaged γ-ray spectra (Γγ ≥ 2.2) whereas those that have been observed in the X-ray band have hard X-ray spectra (ΓX = 1.01−1.86). The γ-ray flux of high-redshift blazars ranges from 4.84 × 10−10 to 1.50 × 10−7 photon cm−2 s−1 and the luminosity is within (0.10−5.54) × 1048 erg s−1 which during the γ-ray flares increases up to (0.1−1) × 1050 erg s−1. In the X-ray band, only the emission of PKS 0438−43, B2 0743+25, and TXS 0222+185 is found to vary in different Swift XRT observations whereas in the γ-ray band, the emission is variable for fourteen sources: the flux of B3 1343+451 and PKS 0537−286 changes in sub-day scales, that of PKS 0347−211 and PKS 0451−28 in day scales, while the γ-ray variability of the others is in week or month scales. The properties of distant blazar jets are derived by modelling the multiwavelength spectral energy distributions within a one-zone leptonic scenario assuming that the X-ray and γ-ray emissions are produced from inverse Compton scattering of synchrotron and dusty torus photons. From the fitting, the emission region size is found to be ≤0.05 pc and the magnetic field and the Doppler factor are correspondingly within 0.10−1.74 G and 10.0−27.4. By modelling the optical–UV excess, we found that the central black hole masses and accretion disc luminosities are within L d ≃ (1.09−10.94) × 1046 erg s−1 and (1.69−5.35) × 109 M⊙, respectively. B3 1343 + 451 is a distant (z = 2.534) and bright flat-spectrum radio quasar observed in the γ -ray band. The results from the multiwavelength observations of B3 1343 + 451 with Fermi-LAT and Swift are reported. In the γ -ray band, strong flares were observed on 05 December 2011 and on 13 December 2009 when the flux increased up to (8.78 ± 0.83)·10-7 photon cm-2 s-1. The hardest photon index Γ = 1.73 ± 0.24 has been observed on MJD 58089 which is not common for flat-spectrum radio quasars. The analysis of Swift XRT data shows that in 2014 the X-ray flux of the source increased ~2 times as compared to 2009, but in both periods the X-ray emission is characterized by a hard photon index of ΓX-ray = 1.2–1.3. During the γ -ray flares, the shortest flux halving timescale was ~2.34 days, implying the emission had been produced in a very compact region, R ≤ δ ct /(1 + z) = 3.43·1016 cm (when δ = 20). The spectral energy distribution of B3 1343 + 451 is modeled during the quiescent and flaring periods assuming a compact emitting region outside the BLR. It is found that the flares can be explained by only changing the bulk Lorentz factor of the emitting region without significant modification of the emitting electron parameters and luminosity of the jet. Important information on the evolution of a jet can be obtained by comparing the physical state of the plasma at its propagation through the broad-line region (where the jet is most likely formed) into the intergalactic medium, where it starts to decelerate significantly. This approach can be fruitfully applied to sources having a large-scale jet long enough to be resolved by Chandra telescope. This is why, from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi LAT) third source catalog we have selected radio galaxies that have a knot or hot-spot structure in their large-scale jet. We compare the constraints on the physical parameters in the innermost ( < pc) and outer ( > kpc) regions of the same jet by means of a detailed multiwavelength analysis and theoretical modeling of the broadband spectra of M87, Pictor A, 3C 303, 3C 275.1, NGC 6251, 3C 207, 3C 111 and 3C 120. The discovery of very-high-energy gamma-ray emission from Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs) by ground-based Cherenkov telescopes (HESS, MAGIC, VERITAS) provides a new view of blazar emission processes. The available data from multiwavelength observations of FSRQs, allow us to constrain the size (possibly also location) of the emitting region, magnetic field, electron energy distribution, etc., which are crucial for the understanding of the jet properties. We investigate the origin of emission from FSRQs (PKS 1510-089, PKS 1222+216 and 3C 279) by modeling the broadband spectral energy distribution in their quiescent and flaring states, using estimation of the parameter space that describes the underlying particle distribution responsible for the emission through the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique. The recent observations by Fermi large area telescope (Fermi-LAT) showed that in addition to the radio galaxies and blazars, Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxies are also γ -rays emitters. NLSy1 are AGNs with optical spectral properties similar to those of Seyfert 1 galaxies, except for having narrow Balmer lines and strong optical lines. They also exhibit strong X-ray variability, steep X-ray spectra and relatively high luminosity. The multiwavelength emission properties of 1H 0323+342, SBS 0846+513 and PMN J0948+0022 are discussed, using the γ -ray data from the last 8.8 years Fermi-LAT observations as well as available Swift(UVOT/XRT) data. We present theγ -ray observations of the flat-spectrum radio quasar PKS 1441+25 (z=0.939), using the Fermi large Area Telescope data accumulated during 2015 January-December. A γ-ray flare was observed in January 24, when the flux increased up to (2.22 ± 0.38) x 10-6 photon cm-2 s-1 with the flux-doubling time-scale being as short as ∼1.44 d. The spectral analysis shows that from 2015 April 13 to April 28, the MeV-to-GeV photon index has hardened and changes in the range of Γ = (1.73-1.79) for most of the time. The hardest photon index of Γ = 1.54 ± 0.16 has been observed on MJD 57 131.46 with 11.8σ which is not common for flat-spectrum radio quasars. For the same period theγ -ray spectrum shows a possible deviation from a simple power-law shape, indicating a spectral cutoff at Ecut = 17.7 ± 8.9 GeV. The spectral energy distributions during quiescent and flaring states are modelled using one-zone leptonic models that include the synchrotron, synchrotron self Compton and external inverse Compton processes; the model parameters are estimated using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method. The emission in the flaring states can be modelled assuming that either the bulk Lorentz factor or the magnetic field has increased. The modelling shows that there is a hint of hardening of the low-energy index (∼1.98) of the underlying non-thermal distribution of electrons responsible for the emission in 2015 April. Such hardening agrees with theγ -ray data, which pointed out a significantγ -ray photon index hardening on 2015 April 13 to 28. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report the analysis of Fermi Large Area Telescope data from five years of observations of the broad line radio galaxy 3C 120. The accumulation of a larger data set results in the detection of high energy γ-rays up to 10 GeV, with a detection significance of about 8.7s. A power law spectrum with a photon index of 2.72 ± 0.1 and an integrated flux of Fγ = (2.35 ± 0.5) × 10-8 photon cm-2 s-1 above 100 MeV well describe the data averaged over five years of observations. The variability analysis of the light curve with 180, and 365 day bins reveals flux increase (nearly twice its average level) during the last year of observation. This variability on month timescales indicates the compactness of the emitting region. The γ-ray spectrum can be described as synchrotron self-Compton emission from the electron population producing the radio-to-X-ray emission in the jet. The required electron energy density exceeds the magnetic field energy density only by a factor of 2, meaning there is no significant deviation from equipartition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of the present work was to study the effect of the amino acid taurine in the heart rhythm variability and morphofunctional changes of immune system organs (spleen, thymus) of rats exposed to stress. Post stress intra-abdominal injection of taurine, as a result, was observed of heart rhythm variability (HRV) survey indicators, as well as restoration of morphofunctional changes in the immune system, which allows us to assume that the amino acid has to improve to enhance immunomodulatory effect. Cygnus X-3 (Cyg X-3) is a remarkable Galactic microquasar (X-ray binary) emitting from radio to γ-ray energies. In this paper, we consider the hadronic model of emission of γ-rays above 100 MeV and their implications. We focus on the joint γ-ray and neutrino production resulting from proton-proton interactions within the binary system. We find that the required proton injection kinetic power, necessary to explain the γ-ray flux observed by AGILE and Fermi-LAT, is Lp ∼ 1038 erg s–1, a value in agreement with the average bolometric luminosity of the hypersoft state (when Cyg X-3 was repeatedly observed to produce transient γ-ray activity). If we assume an increase of the wind density at the superior conjunction, the asymmetric production of γ-rays along the orbit can reproduce the observed modulation. According to observational constraints and our modeling, a maximal flux of high-energy neutrinos would be produced for an initial proton distribution with a power-law index α = 2.4. The predicted neutrino flux is almost two orders of magnitude less than the two-month IceCube sensitivity at ∼1 TeV. If the protons are accelerated up to PeV energies, the predicted neutrino flux for a prolonged “soft X-ray state” would be a factor of about three lower than the one-year IceCube sensitivity at ∼10 TeV. This study shows that, for a prolonged soft state (as observed in 2006) possibly related to γ-ray activity and a hard distribution of injected protons, Cyg X-3 might be close to being detectable by cubic-kilometer neutrino telescopes such as IceCube. The detection of high-energy (HE) γ-ray emission up to ∼3 GeV from the giant lobes of the radio galaxy Centaurus A has been recently reported by the Fermi-LAT Collaboration based on ten months of all-sky survey observations. A data set more than three times larger is used here to study the morphology and photon spectrum of the lobes with higher statistics. The larger data set results in the detection of HE γ-ray emission (up to ∼6 Gev) from the lobes with a significance of more than 10 and 20σ for the north and the south lobe, respectively. Based on a detailed spatial analysis and comparison with the associated radio lobes, we report evidence for a substantial extension of the HE γ-ray emission beyond the WMAP radio image for the northern lobe of Cen A. We reconstructed the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the lobes using radio (WMAP) and Fermi-LAT data from the same integration region. The results of analysis of approximately 3 years of gamma-ray observations (August 2008-July 2011) of the radio galaxy Centaurus A with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi LAT) are presented. By modeling the surrounding (background) sources including the giant lobes of Centaurus A, and using the standard binned likelihood analysis method, the energy spectrum of the core is derived. In the energy range below several GeV it is described by a single power-law with photon index Γ = 2.73 ± 0.06 in agreement with the report of the Fermi LAT collaboration based on the first 10 months observations of the source. However, at higher energies the new data show significant excess above the extrapolation of the energy spectrum from low energies. The total flux between 200 MeV to 50 GeV is estimated to be (1.63 ± 0.14) × 10 ph cm s. The comparison of the corresponding Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) at GeV energies with the SED in the TeV energy band reported by the H.E.S.S. collaboration shows that we deal with two or perhaps even three components of gamma-radiation originating from different regions located within the central 10 kpc of Centaurus A. Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), in a few seconds, release luminosities (in gamma-rays) comparable to the luminosity of all stars in the observable Universe, which makes them detectable to the dawn of galaxy and stellar formation. One of the most striking observational properties of some of these sources is that they are accompanied by a supernova (SN) of type Ic, traditionally called GRB-SN association or connection. Observations of supernovae (SNe) Ic occurring after the prompt emission of long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are addressed within the binary-driven hypernova (BdHN) model where GRBs originate from a binary composed of a ∼10 M ⊙ carbon–oxygen (CO) star and a neutron star (NS). The CO core collapse gives the trigger, leading to a hypernova with a fast-spinning newborn NS (ν NS) at its center. The evolution depends strongly on the binary period, P bin. For P bin ∼ 5 min, BdHNe I occur with energies 1052–1054 erg. The accretion of SN ejecta onto the NS leads to its collapse, forming a black hole (BH) originating the MeV/GeV radiation. For P bin ∼ 10 min, BdHNe II occur with energies 1050–1052 erg and for P bin ∼ hours, BdHNe III occur with energies below 1050 erg. In BdHNe II and III, no BH is formed. The 1–1000 ms ν NS originates, in all BdHNe, the X-ray-optical-radio afterglows by synchrotron emission. The hypernova follows an independent evolution, becoming an SN Ic, powered by nickel decay, observable after the GRB prompt emission. We report 24 SNe Ic associated with BdHNe. Their optical peak luminosity and time of occurrence are similar and independent of the associated GRBs. From previously identified 380 BdHN I comprising redshifts up to z = 8.2, we analyze four examples with their associated hypernovae. By multiwavelength extragalactic observations, we identify seven new episodes, theoretically explained, fortunately not yet detected in Galactic sources, opening new research areas. Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are systems of unprecedented complexity across all the electromagnetic spectrum, including the radio, optical, X-rays, gamma rays in the MeV and GeV regimes, as well as ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays, each manifested in seven specific physical processes with widely different characteristic evolution timescales ranging from 10âˆ'14 s to 107 s or longer. We here study the long GRB 180720B originating from a binary system composed of a massive carbon-oxygen (CO) star of about 10 M ⊙ and a companion neutron star (NS). The gravitational collapse of the CO star gives rise to a spinning newborn NS (ν NS), with an initial period of P 0 = 1 ms that powers the synchrotron radiation in the radio, optical, and X-ray wavelengths. We here investigate solely the GRB 180720B afterglows and present a detailed treatment of its origin based on the synchrotron radiation released by the interaction of the ν NS and the SN ejecta. We show that in parallel to the X-ray afterglow, the spinning ν NS also powers the optical and radio afterglows and allows to infer the ν NS and ejecta parameters that fit the observational data. Blazars are a peculiar class of active galactic nuclei that enlighten the sky at all wavelengths. The electromagnetic emission of these sources is jet-dominated, resulting in a spectral energy distribution (SED) that has a typical double-humped shape. X-ray photons provide a wealth of information on the physics of each source as in the X-ray band, we can observe the tail of SED first peak, the rise of the second one or the transition between the two. NuSTAR , thanks to its capability of focusing X-rays up to 79 keV provides broad-band data particularly suitable to compute SEDs in a still poorly explored part of the spectrum. In the context of the Open Universe initiative, we developed a dedicated pipeline, NuSTAR_Spectra , a shell-script that automatically downloads data from the archive, generates scientific products and carries out a complete spectral analysis. The script homogeneously extracts high level scientific products for both NuSTAR 's telescopes and the spectral characterization is performed testing two phenomenological models. The corresponding X-ray properties are derived from the data best fit, and the SEDs are also computed. The systematic processing of all blazar observations of the NuSTAR public archive allowed us to release the first hard X-ray spectroscopic catalogue of blazars (NuBlazar). Following the GRB 170817A prompt emission lasting a fraction of a second, 1 0 8 s of data in the X-rays, optical, and radio wavelengths have been acquired. We here present a model that fits the spectra, flux, and time variability of all these emissions, based on the thermal and synchrotron cooling of the expanding matter ejected in a binary white dwarf merger. The 1 0 − 3 M ⊙ of ejecta, expanding at velocities of 1 0 9 cm s − 1 , are powered by the newborn massive, fast rotating, magnetized white dwarf with a mass of 1. 3 M ⊙ , a rotation period of ≳ 1 2 s, and a dipole magnetic field ∼ 1 0 1 0 G, born in the merger of a 1. 0 + 0. 8 M ⊙ white dwarf binary. Therefore, the long-lasting mystery of the GRB 170817A nature is solved by the merger of a white dwarf binary that also explains the prompt emission energetics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blazars research is one of the hot topics of contemporary extragalactic astrophysics. That is because these sources are the most abundant type of extragalactic γ-ray sources and are suspected to play a central role in multimessenger astrophysics. We have used Swift |$\_$| xrtproc, a tool to carry out an accurate spectral and photometric analysis of the Swift-XRT data of all blazars observed by Swift at least 50 times between December 2004 and the end of 2020. We present a database of X-ray spectra, best-fit parameter values, count rates and flux estimations in several energy bands of over 31 000 X-ray observations and single snapshots of 65 blazars. The results of the X-ray analysis have been combined with other multifrequency archival data to assemble the broad-band Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) and the long-term light curves of all sources in the sample. Our study shows that large X-ray luminosity variability on different time-scales is present in all objects. Spectral changes are also frequently observed with a 'harder-when-brighter' or 'softer-when-brighter' behaviour depending on the SED type of the blazars. The peak energy of the synchrotron component (νpeak) in the SED of HBL blazars, estimated from the log-parabolic shape of their X-ray spectra, also exhibits very large changes in the same source, spanning a range of over two orders of magnitude in Mrk421 and Mrk501, the objects with the best data sets in our sample. We recall evidence that long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have binary progenitors and give new examples. Binary-driven hypernovae (BdHNe) consist of a carbon–oxygen core (COcore) and a neutron star (NS) companion. For binary periods ∼5 min, the COcore collapse originates the subclass BdHN I characterized by (1) an outstanding supernova (SN; the ' SN-rise '); (2) a black hole (BH), born from the NS collapse by SN matter accretion, leading to a GeV emission with luminosity |$L_{\rm GeV} = A_{\rm GeV}\, t^{-\alpha _{\rm GeV}}$|⁠ , observed only in some cases; and (3) a new NS (νNS), born from the SN, originating from the X-ray afterglow with |$L_\mathrm{ X} = A_{\rm X}\, t^{-\alpha _{\rm X}}$|⁠ , observed in all BdHN I. We record 378 sources and present for four prototype GRBs 130427A, 160509A, 180720B, and 190114C: (1) spectra, luminosities, SN-rise duration; (2) A X, αX = 1.48 ± 0.32, and (3) the νNS spin time evolution. We infer (i) A GeV, αGeV = 1.19 ± 0.04 and (ii) the BdHN I morphology from time-resolved spectral analysis, three-dimensional simulations, and the GeV emission presence/absence in 54 sources within the Fermi -Large Area Telescope boresight angle. For 25 sources, we give the integrated and time-varying GeV emission, 29 sources have no GeV emission detected and show X/gamma-ray flares previously inferred as observed along the binary plane. The 25/54 ratio implies the GeV radiation is emitted within a cone of half-opening angle ≈60° from the normal to the orbital plane. We deduce BH masses of 2.3–8.9 M⊙ and spin of 0.27–0.87 by explaining the GeV emission from the BH rotational energy extraction, while their time evolution validates the BH mass–energy formula. Aims. Open Universe for Blazars is a set of high-transparency multi-frequency data products for blazar science, and the tools designed to generate them. Blazars are drawing growing interest following the consolidation of their position as the most abundant type of source in the extragalactic very high-energy γ-ray sky, and because of their status as prime candidate sources in the nascent field of multi-messenger astrophysics. As such, blazar astrophysics is becoming increasingly data driven, depending on the integration and combined analysis of large quantities of data from the entire span of observational astrophysics techniques. The project was therefore chosen as one of the pilot activities within the United Nations Open Universe Initiative, whose objective is to stimulate a large increase in the accessibility and ease of utilisation of space science data for the worldwide benefit of scientific research, education, capacity building, and citizen science. Methods. Our aim is to deliver innovative data science tools for multi-messenger astrophysics. In this work we report on a data analysis pipeline called Swift-DeepSky based on the Swift XRTDAS software and the XIMAGE package, encapsulated into a Docker container. Swift-DeepSky downloads and reads low-level data, generates higher level products, detects X-ray sources, and estimates several intensity and spectral parameters for each detection, thus facilitating the generation of complete and up-to-date science-ready catalogues from an entire space-mission data set. Results. As a first application of our innovative approach, we present the results of a detailed X-ray image analysis based on Swift-DeepSky that was run on all Swift-XRT observations including a known blazar, carried out during the first 14 years of operations of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. Short exposures executed within one week of each other have been added to increase sensitivity, which ranges between ∼1 × 10−12 and ∼1 × 10−14 erg cm−2 s−1 (0.3–10.0 keV). After cleaning for problematic fields, the resulting database includes over 27 000 images integrated in different X-ray bands, and a catalogue, called 1OUSXB, that provides intensity and spectral information for 33 396 X-ray sources, 8896 of which are single or multiple detections of 2308 distinct blazars. All the results can be accessed online in a variety of ways, from the Open Universe portal through Virtual Observatory services, via the VOU-Blazar tool and the SSDC SED builder. One of the most innovative aspects of this work is that the results can be easily reproduced and extended by anyone using the Docker version of the Swift-DeepSky pipeline, which runs on Linux, Mac, and Windows machines, and does not require any specific experience in X-ray data analysis. We present the dissection in space, time, and energy of the region around the IceCube-170922A neutrino alert. This study is motivated by: (1) the first association between a neutrino alert and a blazar in a flaring state, TXS 0506+056; (2) the evidence of a neutrino flaring activity during 2014–2015 from the same direction; (3) the lack of an accompanying simultaneous γ-ray enhancement from the same counterpart; (4) the contrasting flaring activity of a neighbouring bright γ-ray source, the blazar PKS 0502+049, during 2014–2015. Our study makes use of multiwavelength archival data accessed through Open Universe tools and includes a new analysis of Fermi -LAT data. We find that PKS 0502+049 contaminates the γ-ray emission region at low energies but TXS 0506+056 dominates the sky above a few GeV. TXS 0506+056, which is a very strong (top percent) radio and γ-ray source, is in a high γ-ray state during the neutrino alert but in a low though hard γ-ray state in coincidence with the neutrino flare. Both states can be reconciled with the energy associated with the neutrino emission and, in particular during the low/hard state, there is evidence that TXS 0506+056 has undergone a hadronic flare with very important implications for blazar modelling. All multimessenger diagnostics reported here support a single coherent picture in which TXS 0506+056, a very high energy γ-ray blazar, is the only counterpart of all the neutrino emissions in the region and therefore the most plausible first non-stellar neutrino and, hence, cosmic ray source. Short and long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been recently sub-classified into seven families according to the binary nature of their progenitors. For short GRBs, mergers of neutron star binaries (NS-NS) or neutron star-black hole binaries (NS-BH) are proposed. For long GRBs, the induced gravitational collapse (IGC) paradigm proposes a tight binary system composed of a carbon-oxygen core (CO) and a NS companion. The explosion of the CO as supernova (SN) triggers a hypercritical accretion process onto the NS companion which might reach the critical mass for the gravitational collapse to a BH. Thus, this process can lead either to a NS-BH or to NS-NS depending on whether or not the accretion is sufficient to induce the collapse of the NS into a BH. We shall discuss for the above compact object binaries: (1) the role of the NS structure and the equation-of-state on their final fate; (2) their occurrence rates as inferred from the X and gamma-ray observations; (3) the expected number of detections of their gravitational wave (GW) emission by the Advanced LIGO interferometer. We propose a procedure for mathematical treatment of the spectra of complexes between ligands and DNA, which allows us to determine the position of the isosbestic point with high precision. As a specific example, we consider the absorption spectra of ethidium bromide complexes titrated against a DNA solution.
