Adult camel leukosis is an emerging hematological and neoplastic disease in dromedaries. It has been hypothesized that bovine leukemia virus (BLV) or its genetic variants may be associated with adult camel leukosis. In this study, we used next-generation sequencing (NGS) to detect all possible viruses in five lung samples from five dromedaries with histopathological evidence of adult camel leukosis and four tissue samples from two control dromedaries. Background: Propylthiouracil (PROP) (a medicated tool) and hormonal fingerprint (second to fourth digits [2D:4D]) ratio can be used for detection of caries which is most prevalent oral health disease. Aim: This study aims to determine the role of genetic taste sensitivity and hormonal fingerprint (2D:4D ratio) on caries risk susceptibility. Materials and Methods: The present study was an observational and cross-sectional study. It was conducted on 570 children aged 6–12 years. PROP sensitivity test was done by PROP impregnated filter paper strips and subjects were divided accordingly into supertasters, medium-tasters, and nontasters. 2D:4D ratio was obtained by measuring length ratio of index to ring finger using Vernier caliper. Dietary preferences of the subjects were recorded. The evaluation of decayed, missing, and filled teeth/deft indices was done. Statistical Analysis: Intergroup comparisons were performed using One-way ANOVA test, independent t-test and Chi-square test at 5% significance level. Results: Positive correlation between nontasters, low digit ratio, sweet likers, and high caries index was found with a high significant difference. Conclusion: Genetic taste sensitivity and hormonal fingerprint (biological marker) can be used for detection of caries as the present research confirmed impact of hormones on taste perception.

Context: Early childhood caries is one of the most widespread diseases affecting children in urban and rural India. Community health workers can bring about a quantum of change in improving the oral health in children. Aims: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of oral health training imparted to Anganwadi and accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers on improving the oral hygiene of 148 children aged 1–6 years. Settings and Design: The preintervention followed by oral health training and postintervention assessment were done at three Anganwadi and ASHA centers of Rajasthan. Methodology: The preintervention data included Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth/decayed, extracted, and filled teeth, oral hygiene indices (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified [OHI-S] and Oral Hygiene Index Simplified-Modified [OHIS-M]), plaque index, and caries activity using Oratest. The oral health training consisted of PowerPoint presentations, video presentations, live demonstrations on brushing technique, rinsing, plaque disclosure, and flossing technique. They were enlightened on deleterious oral habits, emergency protocol on trauma, etc. The postintervention data included outcome measures consisting of oral hygiene indices (OHI-S and OHIS-M), plaque index, and Oratest after 2 months to evaluate the impact of training. Statistical Analysis used: The data were analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way analysis of variance test. Results: There was a significant improvement in toothbrushing practices and rinsing (P < 0.05). There was a significant difference in debris index, calculus index, OHI-S/OHIS-M, plaque index, and Oratest after intervention (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Empowering Anganwadi and ASHA workers can be a feasible approach in India, where oral health is not a priority in primary health care as yet.

Abstract Background The incidence of breast cancer in Pakistan has been rising with approximately one third of these patients requiring mastectomy. Among breast reconstruction treatment options, the use of Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) for pre-pectoral breast implant surgery has proven effective with improved cosmetic outcome. However, due to high cost it cannot be regularly implemented in a developing country like Pakistan. An alternative to ADM, Polyglactin 910 (Vicryl™, Ethicon) mesh has been introduced in pre-pectoral breast reconstructive surgery which has shown to be almost 10 times lower in cost. We set out to determine the frequency of early postoperative complications when using Polyglactin 910 mesh for pre-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction surgery. Methods A single centre, retrospective, chart review was conducted, and a total 28 women were included in the study. Thirty-two pre-pectoral implant-based mastectomies with Polyglactin 910 mesh were performed. Early post-operative outcomes (within 12 months of procedure) including duration of antibiotic use, post-operative infection, implant displacement, flap necrosis, seroma formation, wound dehiscence, hematoma formation, capsular contracture and reconstruction failure, were recorded. Results Only 4 (12.5%) women experienced early post-operative morbidity. One patient developed a wound dehiscence, which eventually led to reconstruction failure and removal of the implant. Another patient had seroma formation and flap necrosis. None of the patients developed postoperative implant displacement, hematoma formation or capsular contracture in the early post-operative period. Conclusion This study reveals that early post-operative outcomes with Polyglactin 910 mesh in breast reconstructive surgery are few, thus making it a cost effective, reliable, and safe treatment option, especially in developing countries like Pakistan.

Eventration of diaphragm is a rare entity and often is characterized by a developmental abnormality of the diaphragm musculature. The acute presentation of organoaxial volvulus with impending gangrene of stomach is a life-threatening event and requires emergency diagnosis and surgical intervention. A 45-year-old man visited our hospital for evaluation of upper abdominal discomfort. He had a feeling of fullness and discomfort in the upper abdomen for 3 years. These attacks lasted about 2 hours and were not usually severe but eventually presented with severe abdominal pain. The patient was explored as general condition was deteriorating. On exploration, it was found that there was huge organoaxial stomach volvulus with impending stomach gangrene. Emergency exploration, gastropexy, and plication of diaphragm was done. Early diagnosis and prompt intervention may avoid consequent gastric volvulus and complications,improving the overall outcome and mortality.

Abstract Cardiac disease and the death rates due to coronary heart failure and cardiomyopathy are increasing. Thoracic transplantation is now a widely accepted therapeutic option for end-stage cardiac failure. The survival rate after the organ transplantation is crucial. Survival prediction after heart transplantation is a hot area of research. The use of conventional statistical techniques is computationally expensive and does not provide reliable solutions. Artificial Neural Networks based survival prediction helps surgeons make precise decisions and predict the best outcomes. The proposed system implements multi-layer perceptron algorithm, which shows good performance in survival prediction. We also implemented our work in the Radial Basis Function Network model to prove the accuracy of proposed model. For this research study, data were collected from United Network for Organ Sharing database and extracted the relevant thoracic transplantation survival prediction attributes with the help of suitable data mining techniques. We obtained an accuracy of 97.1% from the multi-layer perceptron model with the evaluation of various performance measures. In order to assure the validity of the proposed model we implemented the Radial Basis Function model and obtained an accuracy of 92.37%. We collated the accuracy of proposed survival prediction models with existing systems and proved that the proposed system appeared to be best for survival prediction with higher accuracy compared to 85.9% in the existing system. The outcome of the model will be an asset for the lifesaving procedures in the medical field.

A single sensor camera captures only one intensity value in a pixel known as the raw/unprocessed image. The raw or incomplete image is reconstructed to a full colour image by the process called demosaicking. The proposed work introduces an error efficient demosaicking algorithm. The efficient prior error reduction technique helps to obtain better results. The demosaicked green image is a guide to the residual demosaicking process. The conventional demosaicking is replaced by the residual demosaicking. The standard Kodak and McMaster datasets are employed in the experimental analysis. The proposed methodology has produced optimal performance with reduced error compared to the conventional demosaicking algorithms.

Herein, mesoporous V2‐xSb2xO5‐δ (Sb−V−O) compounds, encompassing a compositional range of x varying between, 0.05≤x≤0.08, with orthorhombic Pmmn space group symmetry, are synthesized by high‐temperature solid‐state reaction method. Scanning electron microscopy indicated the formation of microscale rods and flakes and EDS spectra affirmed the stoichiometric precision of their composition adhering to the formulated chemical formula. Nitrogen adsorption isotherms exhibited the distinctive type IV pattern, accompanied by an H3 hysteresis loop, signifying the formation of mesoporous micro rods and flakes. Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller measurements demonstrated an augmented surface area, ranging from 16.67–28.74 m2/g, mirroring the effect of the increase in the concentration of Sb cations. The study demonstrated complete Methylene Blue dye removal within a brief 90 minute period, highlighting its efficacy in water remediation. The adsorption kinetics was aptly described by the pseudo‐second‐order model which exhibited a high degree of fit (R2=0.99). Freundlich adsorption isotherm was used to describe the multilayer adsorption of MB dye on the Sb−V−O surface indicating an exponential increase in adsorption active sites. Enhanced cationic MB dye adsorption on negative Sb−V−O surface is attributed to the electrostatic chemisorption by the interaction of NMe2+ on the negative surface modified Sb−V−O compounds. The conventional chemotherapeutic drugs have many side effects due to their non-selective tissue distribution, reduced drug concentration of the drug at the tumor site, and the drug resistance. To overcome these problems the chemotherapeutic agent should selectively accumulate the tumor site and stays there for a prolonged period of time releasing the payloads in a controlled manner. This can be achieved by the administration of a smart drug delivery system (SDDS) loaded with the active drug molecules. In this work, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is loaded into amine functionalised hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSN-NH2) and then coated with a biocompatible polydopamine (PDA) to formulate SSDS for 5-FU for pH-sensitive drug release. The physiochemical properties were characterised; the structural morphology was observed by using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope, chemical interaction between the drug and excipients were characterised from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the entrapment efficiency of loaded drug and the pH-dependent drug release rate were evaluated using UV-visible spectroscopy. It was observed that, the drug is compatible with excipients by retaining all the characteristics peaks of 5-FU with negligible changes in the position in all physical mixtures. The PDA coated 5-FU loaded HMSN-NH2 also exhibits a nearly spherical and non-aggregated morphology. The release rate was showed to increase with increase in concentration of structure-directing agent (Triton X 100) in the rate of a maximum release at the end of 72 h in pH 4. The prepared novel PDA coated 5-FU HMSN-NH2 was found to be capable of delivering the anti-cancer drug 5-FU specifically at the tumor site in a pH-dependent stimuli-responsive manner. It also showed a controlled release for a period of 72 h. The enhanced cytotoxicity against HeLa cell line were found for the formulated SSD form.

Enhancement of fluorescence emission in a flexible and free‐standing fluorescing film is a key requirement for sensing platforms with augmented sensitivity. In this context, a study on the enhanced fluorescence emission from nitrogen‐doped carbon dots (NCDs) embedded on a flexible free‐standing photonic crystal hydrogel film prepared via photopolymerization, is presented. The composite structure utilizes the photonic crystal enhanced fluorescence (PCEF) technique and incorporates a self‐assembled 3D photonic crystal (3D PC) onto a photopolymerizable hydrogel matrix containing the NCDs. The 3D PC template is prepared through vertical deposition self‐assembly using monodisperse polystyrene (PS) spheres. By leveraging the enhanced excitation and extraction effect in a PC‐fluorophore composite, the authors' structure exhibits a fourfold enhancement in fluorescence emission compared to the control sample. The relative positioning of the photonic stopband with the excitation and emission spectra of the fluorophore (NCDs) is thoroughly studied by selecting four different 3D PCs with varied lattice parameters. In addition, the hydrogel matrix offers improved photostability and enhanced lifetime for the NCDs.
