Background/Aims: The National Liver Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) has been implemented for the past 15 years in Korea. However, the actual clinical experience in Korea is inconsistent with the expectations of the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance program. To evaluate the actual clinical situation of HCC diagnoses, we investigated disease severity in patients with HCC and the diagnostic environment. Methods: From January 2011 to December 2015, all patients who were diagnosed with HCC in a single secondary hospital in Daejeon city were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Severity of HCC was evaluated according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system. Results: Over the course of 5 years, 298 participants were enrolled. The mean age of participants was 64.0 years. Positive hepatitis B surface antigen was confirmed in 134 patients (45.0%), 35 patients (11.7%) tested positive for anti-hepatitis C virus antibody, and 93 patients (32.2%) had more than 40 g/day of alcohol consumption. The proportions of patients according to BCLC stages were as follows: BCLC-0, 28 patients (9.4%); BCLC-A, 42 patients (14.1%); BCLC-B, 26 patients (8.7%); BCLC-C, 134 patients (45.0%); and BCLC-D, 68 patients (22.8%). The diagnostic environments were as follows: 19 patients were in the NLCSP group (6.4%), 114 in the group with presenting signs (38.3%), 110 in the regular outpatient care group (36.9%), and 55 patients in the incidental diagnosis group (18.5%). Conclusions: Most patients (67.8%) had advanced stage HCC at diagnosis, and curative treatment was not indicated due to the severity disease. Thus, the actual situation is far worse than the theoretical expectation of HCC surveillance, suggesting that many high-risk patients for HCC are missed in surveillance. In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or liver cirrhosis (LC) accompanied by hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection, hepatic failure often leads to debility. Here, we report about a 63-year-old man with alcoholic LC who was referred to our hospital with jaundice and abdominal distension 10 days earlier. Abdominal computed tomography showed necrotic HCC accompanied by left lobe shrinkage without tumor progression. Laboratory and imaging findings revealed no acute infection focus. The patient reported no herbal medicine or alcohol consumption, and there was no evidence of acute viral hepatitis. One month later, HEV immunoglobulin M positivity was confirmed, and deterioration of liver function due to HEV infection was suspected. The patient often ate raw oysters and sashimi, as well as boar meat, which is a well-known risk food for HEV infection. His umbilical hernia deteriorated due to tense ascites and infection by skin abrasion. The patient progressed to hepatorenal syndrome and eventually died. Liver function preservation is important when treating HCC patients. Therefore, clinicians should pay more attention to the prevention of HEV and others causes of direct liver injury. The green alga Tetraselmis striata is regarded as a suitable candidate microalga for bio-diesel production. Recently, T. striata was cultured near Yeonghueung Island, Korea, in a &ldquo, marine culturing field&rdquo, however, its environmental impacts are not yet studied. We estimated the amount of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) released from T. striata cultivation in the marine culturing field, and we investigated the changes in bacterial composition. Then, we designed and installed a mesocosm for further understanding. From the mesocosm results, the DOC released from the cultivation of T. striata led to changes in bacterial communities, disturbance of the microbial food web structure, rapid depletion of nutrients, and a decrease in dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH. Our novel work demonstrates that large amounts of DOC secreted by large-scale microalgal cultures such as that of T. striata can potentially have a significant impact on the structure and function of the surrounding microbial ecosystem.

Introduction: Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) is a poorly differentiated cancer of the stomach. Recent studies imply that early gastric SRC can be well managed by endoscopic resection. Unfortunately, unlike differentiated cancers, the endoscopic features of early gastric SRC have not been well studied. This study evaluated the endoscopic features of early gastric SRC, as well as the risk factors for submucosal (SM) invasion. Method: The medical records of patients from 7 tertiary hospitals (Daejeon and Chungcheong province) were reviewed to examine endoscopic findings and clinical data. These patients underwent surgery or endoscopic resection between January 2011 and December 2016 and were divided into 2 groups (derivation group and validation group) in order to develop and validate an endoscopic scoring system for SM invasion. Results: In total, 331 patients (129 in the derivation group and 202 in the validation group) were enrolled in this study. In the derivation group, the risk factors for SM invasion, namely, fold convergence, nodular mucosal change, and deep depression, were identified by logistic regression analysis (ORs 3.4, 5.9, and 6.0, p < 0.05). A depth-prediction score was created by assigning 1 point for fold convergence and 2 points for other factors. When validation lesions of 0.5 point or more were diagnosed as SM invasion, the sensitivity and specificity were 76.8–78.6% and 61.6–74.7% respectively. Conclusion: Fold convergence, nodular mucosal change, and deep depression are risk factors for SM invasion in early gastric SRC. Our depth-prediction scoring system may be useful for differentiating SM cancers.

We developed an orally active and blood-brain-barrier-permeable benzofuran analogue (8, MDR-1339) with potent antiaggregation activity. Compound 8 restored cellular viability from Aβ-induced cytotoxicity but also improved the learning and memory function of AD model mice by reducing the Aβ aggregates in the brains. Given the high bioavailability and brain permeability demonstrated in our pharmacokinetic studies, 8 will provide a novel scaffold for an Aβ-aggregation inhibitor that may offer an alternative treatment for AD.

Ectopic openings of the common bile duct into the duodenal bulb, which are associated with biliary tract disease or recurrent/refractory duodenal ulcers, are rare. We report three such cases, all of which were documented with gastroscope, and two of which were managed with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) via gastroscope. We suggest that ERCP can be performed with gastroscope, since it may offer a better working position in certain cases.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common primary mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract and usually appear as a well-circumscribed mass. However, it may be difficult to confirm the extent of the disease for some GISTs. A 70-year-old asymptomatic female presented for a regular physical exam. An esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a 2.0 cm protruding mass on the gastric fundus. Endoscopic ultrasound revealed an ill-defined heterogenous hypoechoic lesion (3.0×1.5 cm). A computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a 4.5 cm multifocal calcified mass at the gastric body as well as at the gastric fundus. Laparoscopic gastric wedge resection was performed according to the extent of multifocal calcifications that are shown on the CT. Intraoperative specimen mammography and intraoperative biopsy might be helpful to obtain a tumor-free margin. Final pathologic diagnosis was an intermediate risk GIST in multilobular form. In patients with diffuse multifocal calcifications in the stomach, the possibility of GIST should be considered.

Background: Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection causes many diseases, such as peptic ulcers, gastritis and gastric cancer, and MALToma. It has been gradually accepted that all HP-infected patients should be treated because HP is regarded as an infection. Therefore, the importance of selecting the optimal treatment regimen has increased. Although the 14-day standard triple therapy (STT) is recommended in the current guidelines, prolonging treatment duration is controversial in real practice because of inconsistent results from previous data and the risk of adverse effects. Additionally, the effect of STT using ilaprazole has not been reported until now. We aimed to compare the eradication rate between 7 and 10 days STT using ilaprazole. Methods: A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted, which was divided into 2 treatment groups: the control group was 7 days of STT, and the test group was 10 days of STT. The eradication regimen was 10 mg ilaprazole, 500 mg clarithromycin, and 1000 mg amoxicillin twice daily. We included patients who were diagnosed with positive results of H pylori examination. We compared the HP eradication rate according to treatment duration, CYP2C19 subtype and endoscopic diagnosis. Results: We enrolled a total of 254 patients consisting of 127 patients in each treatment arm. The eradication rates of the control and test groups were 65.4% (82/127) and 74.8% (95/127), respectively, in the intention-to-treat analysis (P = .1). In the per-protocol analysis, 70.3% (83/118) and 82.6% (94/115) were eradicated in each group, which was statistically significant (P = .027). The CYP2C19 subtype was examined in 230 patients. The eradication rate was 79.2% (57/72), 75.4% (92/122), and 72.2% (26/36) in each group, which was not significantly different (P = .704). Conclusion: Ten-day STT was more effective than 7-day STT for HP eradication. The eradication rate was not affected by the CYP2C19 genotype.

A ruptured aneurysm of the middle colic artery (MCA) is extremely rare, and its etiology and optimal treatment are unclear. Previously, surgical intervention was the treatment of choice for ruptured visceral artery aneurysms. However, owing to recent advances in endovascular techniques, transcatheter arterial embolization has been recommended for the management of even ruptured splanchnic aneurysms in clinically stable patients without evidence of bowel ischemia. We report a case of a ruptured MCA aneurysm in a 52-year-old previously healthy man. Coil embolization was attempted successfully. In addition, 7 previously published cases of ruptured MCA aneurysms successfully treated by endovascular embolization were reviewed.

Background Amelioration of biofuel feedstock of microalgae using sustainable means through synthetic ecology is a promising strategy. The co-cultivation model (Tetraselmis striata and Pelagibaca bermudensis) was evaluated for the robust biofuel production under varying stressors as well as with the selected two-stage cultivation modes. In addition, the role of metabolic exudates including the quorum-sensing precursors was assessed. Results The co-cultivation model innovated in this study supported the biomass production of T. striata in a saline/marine medium at a broad range of pH, salinity, and temperature/light conditions, as well as nutrient limitation with a growth promotion of 1.2–3.6-fold. Hence, this developed model could contribute to abiotic stress mitigation of T. striata. The quorum-sensing precursor dynamics of the growth promoting bacteria P. bermudensis exhibited unique pattern under varying stressors as revealed through targeted metabolomics (using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, LC–MS). P. bermudensis and its metabolic exudates mutually promoted the growth of T. striata, which elevated the lipid productivity. Interestingly, hydroxy alkyl quinolones independently showed growth inhibition of T. striata on elevated concentration. Among two-stage cultivation modes (low pH, elevated salinity, and nitrate limitation), specifically, nitrate limitation induced a 1.5 times higher lipid content (30–31%) than control in both axenic and co-cultivated conditions. Conclusion Pelagibaca bermudensis is established as a potential growth promoting native phycospheric bacteria for robust biomass generation of T. striata in varying environment, and two-stage cultivation using nitrate limitation strategically maximized the biofuel precursors for both axenic and co-cultivation conditions (T and T-PB, respectively). Optimum metabolic exudate of P. bermudensis which act as a growth substrate to T. striata surpasses the antagonistic effect of excessive hydroxy alkyl quinolones [HHQ, 4-hydroxy-2-alkylquinolines and PQS (pseudomonas quorum signal), 2-heptyl-3-hydroxy-4(1H)-quinolone]. Effective sustainable algal cultivation techniques are essential for mass production of the marine microalga Tetraselmis for biofuel and array of co-products. The phycospheric communities affect the microalgal growth and metabolism through various allelochemical and nutrient interactions; hence, their potential to affect the quantity and quality of both biomass and bioproducts is significant. In the present study, we have screened the phycospheric communities of biofuel producing Tetraselmis striata (KCTC1432BP). A total of 26 bacterial strains were isolated and identified from the phycosphere of Tetraselmis striata mass culture. Then, each bacterial strain was tested in co-cultivation conditions with Tetraselmis striata for evaluating its growth promoting and inhibitory effects. Among these all strains, two promising strains (Pelagibaca bermudensis KCTC 13073BP and Stappia sp. KCTC 13072BP) were selected because of their maximum growth promoting effects and mutualistic interactions. The growth rate, biomass productivity, lipid contents and fatty acids were analyzed during their combined growth in O3 media and compared with axenic growth of Tetraselmis striata. Later, growth promoting mechanisms in the co-cultivation environment were investigated for these promising bacterial strains under replete and limited conditions of nutrients (nitrate, phosphate and vitamin B12). The growth promoting potential of P. bermudensis was illustrated by the two fold enhancement in biomass productivity. These bacteria are promising for microalgal cultivation without any negative effects on the native seawater bacterial communities, as revealed by NGS analysis. This study represents, to date, the first report highlighting the role of phycospheric growth promoting bacteria of promising biofuel feedstock Tetraselmis striata.

Duodenal neuroendocrine tumors (DNETs) are rare tumors that are occasionally found during upper endoscopies. The incidence of DNETs is increasing, although the data regarding treatment outcomes are insufficient. The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment outcomes in patients with nonampullary DNETs who underwent endoscopic resection or surgery. We evaluated the medical records of patients who were diagnosed with nonampullary DNETs from 2004 to 2017 in 7 university hospitals. We retrospectively analyzed clinical characteristics and compared therapeutic outcomes based on the endoscopic lesion size and treatment method. We ultimately enrolled 60 patients with nonampullary DNETs who underwent endoscopic and surgical treatments. In the endoscopic treatment group, the en bloc resection, endoscopic complete resection (CR) and pathologic CR rates were 88%, 92%, and 50%, respectively. The endoscopic treatment group was divided into 3 subgroups based on the lesion size (1-5 mm, 6-10 mm, and ≥11 mm). The pathologic CR rate was significantly lower in the subgroup with a lesion size ≥11 mm (0%, P = .003) than those in the other 2 subgroups. Lymphovascular invasion occurred significantly more frequently (33.3%, P = .043) among those with a lesion size ≥11 mm. The pathologic CR rate in the surgical treatment group was higher (90.9%) than that in the endoscopic treatment group (50%, P = .017). Surgical treatment appears to be a more appropriate choice because of the risks of incomplete resection and lymphovascular invasion after endoscopic treatment for lesions larger than 11 mm.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the needs for eco t-shirts of the new elderly consumers and to suggest strategies for eco t-shirts product development and marketing. Quantitative research was employed for research method. The data was collected from men and women in their age of 50-65, who lived in Busan, Ulsan, and Kyungnam province, during October, 2011. Respondents were selected by convenience sampling. A total of 307 responses among 350 were analyzed. Factor analysis, frequency analysis, t-test, chi-square, and regression were used for analysis. SPSS 20.0 was used for data analysis. Characteristics of the new elderly (lifestyle and environmental concern), con- sumption status of eco t-shirts (possession status and reasons of purchase/non-purchase), purchase intention for eco t- shirts, consumer needs for t-shirts (usage situation, benefits sought, and dissatisfaction with t-shirts), preference for eco t-shirts (color, pattern, material, and shape), and demographics were surveyed. Based on the results, the vision of eco t- shirts market for the new elderly consumers was positively prospected. In conclusion, specific strategies for eco t-shirts products development and marketing were suggested. Product development focused on practicality and material, design development reflecting consumers' preference, multipurpose product development, building up the product recognition, and moderate price strategy were suggested.

To assess the efficacy of nematicides for the control of plant-parasitic nematodes in fruit and vegetables fields, soil samples were collected from a cucumber field at Gongju; from strawberry fields at Buyeo, Nonsan, and Jinju; and from a melon field at Gocksung in Jeonnam Province, Korea. Plant-parasitic nematodes were separated from each soil sample and identified. The susceptibilities of the nematodes to abamectin 1.68% SC, cadusafos 3% GR, dazomet 98% GR, fosthiazate 30% SL and BA12011 SL were examined under laboratory and field conditions. The average population density of plant-parasitic nematodes was generally reduced after the treatment with nematicides; however, there was increase in the population of Pratylenchus spp. in soil after treatment with fosthiazate at Buyeo and Gocksung. Furthermore, there were increased populations following treatment with abamectin, cadusafos, and dazomet at Gocksung. The control effects of BA12011 treatment on plant-parasitic nematodes were confirmed to be similar to those of the other 4 nematicides evaluated, although its control effect was higher than that of fosthiazate in cucumber-growing soil at Gongju. The effects of nematicide treatment on egg mass formation in each of the collected soils differed according to the region of soil origin. Abamectin was effective in reducing the degree of egg mass formation in Buyeo and Jinju soil, whereas BA12011 was effective in Nonsan and Gocksung soil. Dazomet was found to inhibit egg mass formation in Gongju soil. To evaluate the effect of the newly developed nematicide, BA12011, experiments were conducted in a cucumber-growing greenhouse. The average population densities of Meloidogyne spp., Pratylenchus spp., and Helicotylenchus spp. after the first treatment were reduced to a greater extent than after the second treatment. It is thus suggested that early nematicide treatment is important for effective control of plant-parasitic nematodes.

To know how much damages occurred by nematodes in plastic vinyl house field, soil samples were collected from strawberry cultivation areas at Buyeo and Nonsan in Chungnam and Jinju in Kyeongnam, melon cultivation area at Gocksung in Junnam and cucumber field at Gongju in Chungnam. And then, nematode samples were separated from each soil sample, and identified the kind of plant-parasitic nematodes. Plant-parasitic nematodes were separated from 52 soil samples. Among samples, Meloidogyne spp., Pratylenchus spp. and Helicotylenchus spp. were isolated from 45 (86.5%%) and 33 (63.5%) and 47 collected soil samples (90.4%), respectively. As a result of identification of plant-parasitic nematodes from regional collected soil samples, distribution of Helicotylenchus spp. was higher than any other plant-parasitic nematode. And the population of Meloidogyne spp. and Pratylenchu spp. were also higher, and a occurrence ratio of Meloidogyne spp. is higher than Pratylenchu spp. except the cucumber growing area at Gongju.

While esophagogastric varices are common manifestations of portal hypertension, variceal bleeding from the jejunum is a rare complication of liver cirrhosis. In addition, ectopic variceal bleeding occurs in the duodenum and at sites of previous bowel surgery in most cases, including of stomas. We report a case of obscure overt gastrointestinal bleeding from jejunal varices in a 55-year-old woman who had not previously undergone abdominal surgery, who had liver cirrhosis induced by the hepatitis C virus. Emergency endoscopy revealed the presence of esophageal varices without stigmata of recent bleeding, and no bleeding focus was found at colonoscopy. She continued to produce recurrent melena with hematochezia and received up to 21 units of packed red blood cells. CT angiography revealed the presence of jejunal varices, but no active bleeding was found. Capsule endoscopy revealed fresh blood in the jejunum. The patient submitted to embolization of the jejunal varices via the portal vein, after which she had a stable hemoglobin level and no recurrence of the melena. This is a case of variceal bleeding from the jejunum in a liver cirrhosis patient without a prior history of abdominal surgery.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships between e-loyalty formation process and satisfaction for apparel products by testing the research model developing upon prior researches, and to analyze the differences of the structural model between two groups (high satisfaction group and low satisfaction group). A total of 356 respondents participated through a convenience sampling at universities in Busan. Data were analyzed by a structural equation model analysis. The results were as followings: First, for the structural model, the attributes of shopping malls (e.g., e-store attributes and product attributes) affected consumer satisfaction which influenced the e-loyalty of shopping malls, mediated by value perception. Second, high-satisfaction group evaluated more importantly the attributes of shopping malls, higher perceived the value of products and web sites, more satisfied the mall, and had greater loyalty of online shopping malls than low-satisfaction group. Third, there were significant differences between high-satisfaction group and low-satisfaction group in the e-loyalty model for apparels. Specifically, for high-satisfaction group, the e-store attributes were more likely to influence the value perception of products and web sites than low-satisfaction group, while low-satisfaction group was the higher perceived the value of products, the more they satisfied and then the greater e-loyalty respectively. According to the findings, the implications and future suggestions related to e-loyalty of shopping malls for apparels are provided.

Gastrointestinal neoplasms with an exocrine and a neuroendocrine component are rare. Such neoplasms are called "mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas" (MANECs) according to the most recent World Health Organization classification of gastrointestinal tract neoplasms. MANECs have no specific findings that distinguish them from pure adenocarcinomas. In addition, the optimal management strategy of MANECs is largely unknown. We describe the case of a 32-year-old man with dizziness and abdominal bloating. A cecal mass was suspected based on an image study done at a local clinic. We evaluated the cecal mass by using colonoscopy, contrast enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen, positron emission tomography-computed tomography, and laboratory studies. The patient underwent a right hemicolectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy. The final histopathological diagnosis was a high-grade MANEC of the ascending colon, tumor stage T3N2M0.

Spontaneous regression (SR) of malignancy is a rare phenomenon, especially in patients with gastric cancer. A 77-year-old male, who was already diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma by endoscopic biopsy from a private clinic, was referred to our hospital. Despite our strong recommendation, the patient refused surgical therapy. A follow-up endoscopy was performed 3 months later, which revealed that the ulcer had changed into a white scar. Endoscopic biopsy revealed only chronic inflammation. Two and 6 years later, cancer recurred, and SR was confirmed both times, histologically, at the gastric body. The patient is still alive without any gastrointestinal symptoms after 13 years of follow-up. The cause of SR is yet uncertain and there are only a few suggestions of scientific mechanisms. We, herein, report this very rare case of repeated recurrence and SR of gastric cancer without clear cause.

Background/Aims Acute pancreatitis is a common complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Only a few pharmacologic agents have been shown to have potential efficacy for the prophylactic treatment of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP). The aim of this study was to determine whether prophylactic gabexate and ulinastatin can decrease the incidence of PEP. Methods From January 2005 to April 2010, 1,679 patients undergoing ERCP treatment were consecutively enrolled in the study. After selective exclusion, a total of 1,480 patients were included in the analysis. The patients were separated into 3 groups according to the prophylactic administration of gabexate (593 patients), ulinastatin (229 patients), or saline solution (658 patients) and analyzed retrospectively. The primary outcome measurements were the incidence of pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia. Results PEP occurred in 21 of the 593 (3.5%) patients who received gabexate, 16 of the 229 (7.0%) patients who received ulinastatin, and 48 of the 658 (7.3%) patients who received a saline solution. PPO2 primer were designed based on the sequences of PPO genes of Tribolium castaneum and Drosophila melanogaster, and then plasmid DNA were cloned from PCR products obtained from different two color patterns. When the plasmid DNA band pattern were digested by restriction enzymes, BamH1, Xba1, and EcoR1, we found same size band pattern. However, this sequence was not homologous to sequence of T. castaneum PPO gene. Using the primer designed based on the sequence of D. melanogaster, 209 bp PCR product was observed.

This study investigates the influence of social desirability to questionnaire response and data analysis in order to identify the need for social desirability control in clothing consumer research. A questionnaire measuring social desirability, social face sensitivity, clothing shopping behavior, and demographic characteristics was developed. Responses of 234 respondents were analyzed using factor analysis, simple regression analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, descriptive analysis, and Cronbach`s alpha analysis. The results were as follow. First, respondents were influenced by social desirability when they responded to items measuring other-conscious social face. Second, the result of regression analysis (that the independent variable was social formality) was less influenced by social desirability control because the influence of social desirability to social formality was insignificant. Conversely, the result of regression analysis (that the independent variable was other-conscious social face) was more influenced by social desirability control because the influence of social desirability to other-conscious social face was significant. This study is an initial study that notices the need for social desirability control in clothing consumer research.

The seasonal occurrence of Riptortus pedestris Fabricius was investigated using pheromone traps baited with its aggregation pheromone in the fields with various crop composition (mixture culture of barley and hairy vetch in Asan, Chungnam; monoculture of hairy vetch in Yuseung, Daejeon) from mid-May to mid-July of seed gathering season in 2010. The invasion of R. pedestris into the experimental fields began to increase rapidly from late-June in which period hairy vetch and barley reach the beginning of seed formation stage. After seed gathering season in mid-July, the invasion rate of R. pedestris decreased, and the activity was continually observed till early-November. In addition to dominant R. pedestris species, 33 species of hemiptera including Apolyaus watajii, Dolycoris baccarum, Adelphocoris suturalis, and Yemma exlis were collected, which indicated abundant species diversity in the hairy vetch fields. In the laboratory, R. pedestris did not developed successfully to adult stage on food sources of hairy vetch, with decreasing survival rate after 4th instar and the failure of emergence to adult stage. Also, R. pedestris showed higher preference on soybeans than hairy vetch. Consequently, hairy vetch may be not true host for the development and survival of R. pedestris. It is considered that R. pedestris is a temporary visitor at the season of seed formation in hairy vetch fields.

This study analyzed the content of special selling events in internet shopping malls to establish academic standards for special selling events as tools for sales promotions and to suggest systematic guidelines for marketers designing special selling events. Based on a content analysis, the titles of special selling events from four internet shopping malls selling women`s apparel were analyzed. A total of 692 titles were analyzed. The results are as follow. First, the contents categories of special selling events could be classified into two groups such as `theme` and `tool`. Season, product characteristics, style, advice/information, brand, annual/social events, and marketing events were the main content categories that came under the `theme` group; in addition, the price benefit, free offers, product mix, and marketing technique were the main content categories that came under the `tool` group. Each main content category was subdivided into several segment content categories. Second, most of the titles were composed of more than two segment content categories that involved various information and benefits; however, the portion of titles composed of only theme related content categories or only tool related content categories was substantial. Furthermore, the theme related content categories were more than the tool related content categories. Third, the usage frequencies of the contents categories were analyzed. The upcoming season, single brand, sale/discount, item/material/color, special price/lowest price, and period/time/quantity limits were the segment content categories that held a high rank. Forth, most of the factors that evoked the unplanned purchases of consumers were related to the content categories of special sale events.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the complex shopping behavior of clothing consumer groupsclassified by the level of economic shopping orientation. Using a self-administered questionnaire, 260 respondents ratedtheir economic shopping orientation, hedonic shopping orientation, convenient shopping orientation, store selection cri-teria, clothing interest, gender, age, and other demographic characteristics. A total of 248 questionnaires were analyzed.The results are as follows. First, economic consumers showed more hedonic and convenient shopping orientation thanuneconomic consumers. In addition, economic consumers valued various store selection criteria. These implied that eco-nomic consumers show more complex clothing shopping behavior than uneconomic consumers. Second, as the result ofcomparing complex shopping behavior of economic consumers and uneconomic consumers by their characteristics suchas clothing interest, gender, and age, economic consumers were found to show more complex shopping behavior thanuneconomic consumers regardless of the consumer characteristics. Among them, economic consumers with higher cloth-ing interest or in adult age particularly showed more complex shopping behavior. Furthermore, economic consumers withdifferent consumer characteristics showed quite different aspects in their complex shopping behavior. Third, uneconomicconsumers showed relatively simple, impulsive, and price-apathetic shopping behavior. This study investigates the influence of Likert scale formats such as the number of response categories and the inclusion of a mid-point from a methodological point of view using instruments that measure a fashionmarketing-related subject. Using a self-administered questionnaire, 201 respondents rated their economic clothing shopping orientation on three formats of scales that differed only in the number of response categories (ranging from 5 to 7) from February 8 to February 12, 2010. Descriptive statistics, Spearman`s rank order correlation, t-test, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson`s correlation, and Cronbach`s alpha were used in the analysis. The results are as follows. First, three scale formats were generally suitable for use due to validity and reliability. Second, the response results varied with the number of categories and the inclusion of a mid-point, although the differences were statistically insignificant (with only a few cases that differed). Third, construct validity was more secure in scales with fewer categories, whereas convergent and discriminant validity was generally good in all scale formats. Fourth, reliability coefficients were higher in scales with more categories. Fifth, the number of categories was of greater importance to instrument design than the inclusion of a mid-point. Implications for appropriate scale designs are suggested in this study.

This study identifies the effects of the perceived risk by adolescents on fashion brand conformity for peer groups. Perceived risk, self-esteem, and gender were adopted as variables in order to analyze conformable fashion brand behavior with peer group consideration. A quantitative survey used 672 questionnaires from male and female students between the ages of 14 and 18. The data were analyzed using factor analysis and regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, the dimensions of the brand conformity and perceived risk were revealed. The brand conformity dimensions were normative, informational, and identificational conformity. The perceived risk dimensions were socio-psychological, economic, exchange-refund, performance, management, and fashion risks. Second, fashion (+) and performance (-) risk significantly affected three types of brand conformity. In addition, socio-psychological and economic risk positively affected informational brand conformity. Third, there were more factors of perceived risk that affected brand conformity in the highly self-esteemed group and in the female adolescent group.

Abdominal tuberculosis is not a rare disease, but obstructive jaundice caused by tuberculosis (tuberculous lymphadenitis, tuberculous enlargement of the head of pancreas, and/or tuberculous stricture of the biliary tree) is rare. We recently experienced a case of obstructive jaundice as a result of paradoxical reaction of periportal tuberculous lymphadenopathy that was treated successfully with corticosteroid and biliary drainage. No similar cases have been reported previously.

This study analyzes the locution of television home shopping show hosts for apparel products with a focus on the selling points and vocabulary use. A qualitative content analysis was conducted for 15 recorded home shopping shows selling women`s overcoats and jackets. The results are as follows. First, 8 dimensions of selling points were revealed: Promotions, brand popularities, the experiences of shopping hosts, fashion trend information, conformity motivation and suggestion, intangible attributes, tangible attributes, and compared/leading differences. The most frequent selling point was tangible attributes. Following this were, promotions, conformity motivation and suggestion, compared/leading differences, intangible attributes, brand popularity, the experiences of the shopping hosts, and fashion trend information in order. The selling points were almost proper to decrease the perceived risks of home shopping consumers. Second, shopping hosts frequently used the clothing terms without any expatiations and used loan words (foreign language terms) instead of the direct Korean translations. In the conclusion, the development of a marketing strategy focusing on shopping host management is suggested.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in consumer clothing shopping orientation and shopping behaviors by the multi-selection of internet and offline stores. The data were collected from 201 men and women in their twenties and the respondents were grouped into three as internet-store users, multi-store users, and offline-store users. The data were analyzed using factor analysis, ANOVA, post-hoc analysis, frequency analysis, and chi-square analysis. The results are as following. First, the clothing shopping orientation was partly different among the groups. Regarding the offline shopping orientation, the groups showed difference in the impulsive orientation, and regarding the online shopping orientation, the groups showed differences in the goal oriented and enjoying orientation. In all the three cases, the internet users showed strongest orientation, and the next were multi-store users and offline-store users. The cause of these results were explained as the familiarity and experience with the channel. Second, the clothing shopping behaviors were also partly different among the groups. The groups showed no differences in the preferred store type and benefits sought, but showed significant difference in the attitude toward the internet shopping. The internet-store users showed most positive attitude, and the next were multi-store users and offline-store users.

The study is interested in the consumer`s mixed choice of the internet and the offline stores. Therefore the purpose of study is to investigate if the clothing shopping orientation of consumers varies when they shop internet and offline, instead of classifying consumers into internet shoppers and offline shoppers. For the purpose, quantitative survey was carried out using 201 questionnaires from men and women in their twenties. The data were analyzed using factor analysis, Pearson`s correlation analysis, Spearman`s rank order correlation coefficient, t-test, and frequency analysis. The results are as following. First, the clothing shopping orientation structures of offline and internet stores were different each other. As the result of factor analysis, positive, brand oriented, economic, convenient conformity, convenient impulsive factors were extracted from offline store and rational, enjoying, goal oriented, conformity, brand oriented, convenient impulsive purchase factors were extracted from internet store respectively. Second, as the results of investigating the relationship between the clothing shopping orientation structures of offline and internet stores, positive(off)-enjoying(on), brand oriented(off)-brand oriented(on), convenient conformity(off)-conformity(on) had strong correlation s and the rest were peculiar to the each store type. Specifically, the goal oriented factor peculiar to the internet store was noticeable. Third, as the results of investigating the differences between clothing shopping orientation of offline and internet stores, the ranks of strong orientation dimension were different between two channels. As well, the mean differences were significant in goal oriented, conformity, brand oriented, and convenient impulsive purchase dimensions. This study has the significance that it investigated the variance of clothing shopping orientation according to the mixed selection trend of internet/offline.

The propose of this study is to explore if the clothing shopping orientation[CSO] of consumers differs between the two types of preferred store when they purchase casual wears. A total of 413 answers from male and female consumers in their twenties were used for the analysis. The types of preferred store were grouped by the brand fame. Department stores, brand agencies/sales branches, and outlets constituted wellknown brand store group, and shopping malls, no brand street stores, and discount stores constituted unknown brand store group. The results are as follows. First, there were no significant differences in CSO dimensions except `well known brand oriented` dimension between groups. Second, each group showed proper fitness for CSO structure model. Third, the relationships among dimensions within structure model were significantly different between groups. These mean that though it looks there are no differences between groups at the level of each dimension, but there are differences in the view of specific relationships among dimensions. Therefore, store managers must consider the complex CSO structure for marketing strategy development.

This study is an exploratory research on the brand architecture of Korean apparel enterprises and the differentiation strategy among in-house competing brands. For data analysis, secondary data was used. 20 apparel enterprises were used as the subjects. The results are as following. First, as a result of brand architecture composition, apparel enterprises used the strategy that initially paved the way launching several brands in a specific item category and after that diversified to other categories. Most enterprises used the multi-brand strategy operating plural brands in a same zoning. The terms for launching succeeding brands were about years. Second, as a result of analysing the cases which several brands competes within a same zoning, all the posterior brands had some differences from the prior ones. The most frequent differentiation factor was price. Concept, target age, and distribution channel followed. The order of the factors was somewhat different among the item categories. The differentiation strategy among in-house competing brands meant that the enterprises manage plural brands in a same zoning for the growth of whole market share instead of the direct competition among in-house brands. The results of this study can suggest a growth direction to the enterprises planning to launch new brands.
