Abstract Background To investigate the association between late preterm antenatal corticosteroid treatment and outcome in late preterm neonates born to mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus, Methods All patients with gestational diabetes mellitus who had a late preterm delivery at Etlik Lady Zübeyde Hospital between 2017 and 2021 were included. Women who met the inclusion criteria and were not given antenatal corticosteroid treatment during current pregnancy before 34 0/7 weeks of gestation were divided into two groups according to whether or not they received late preterm antenatal corticosteroid treatment. The two groups were compared in terms of adverse neonatal complications. The main outcomes were composite respiratory outcome and composite neonatal outcome. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine additional potential predictors of neonatal outcome. Results This retrospective cohort study included a total of 400 participants with gestational diabetes mellitus who had a late preterm delivery within the study period. Of these women, 196 (49%) received late preterm antenatal corticosteroid treatment. Main outcomes showed no difference. Decreasing gestational age at birth was identified as an independent risk factor predicting both composite respiratory outcome and composite neonatal outcome in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Conclusions Antenatal corticosteroid treatment at or after 34 0/7 weeks of gestation in women with gestational diabetes mellitus who had a late preterm delivery was not associated with improvement in adverse neonatal outcomes. Decreasing gestational age at birth was the only independent risk factor predicting composite neonatal and composite respiratory outcomes.

Objective: To predict preeclampsia by the ratio of the HCG MoM value in the first and second trimester screening tests. Material and Methods: The HCG-MoM values of 136 pregnant women with preeclampsia and 222 normatensive pregnant women used for first and second-trimester screening tests were proportioned , and the difference between the groups was examined. Numeric variables are expressed as mean ± standard deviation, median (minimum – maximum), and categorical variables as n (%). Results: HCG MoM values were not different between the two groups and were within the accepted international values. The ratio of the free HCG MoM value in the first trimester to the intact HCG MoM value in the second trimester was significantly higher in the control group (1.06) than in the study group (0.99) (p=0.02). Conclusion: Rating the MoM values of β-HCG, a biochemical marker used in screening tests for chromosomal anomaly, may predict preeclampsia in the later weeks of pregnancy.

INTRODUCTION[|]The aim of the present study was to determine the density of nerve fibers in the functional layer of the endometrium in patients with endometriosis in order to determine if it could be used as a minimally invasive diagnostic method for endometriosis. A secondary goal was to assess the relationship between the severity of pelvic pain due to endometriosis and the density of nerve fibers in endometrial sampling materials.[¤]METHODS[|]Endometrial sampling was performed in 67 patients who presented at the hospital between August 2011 and November 2012. Endometriosis was diagnosed by surgical histopathological examination. A total of 34 patients diagnosed with endometriosis were selected as the study group. Thirty-three patients who were operated on for benign conditions other than endometriosis were selected as a control group. Immunohistochemical detection of the nerve fiber marker protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) was used to analyze the endometrial samples for nerve fibers. Visual Analogue Scale scores were used to evaluate the correlation between nerve fiber density and the severity of pelvic pain. Statistical analyses were calculated with SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 17.0 (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA).[¤]RESULTS[|]The mean density of nerve fibers was 1.85+-1.74 fibers/mm2 in the endometriosis group. In the control group, the mean density was 1.15+-1.48 fibers/mm2. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p=0.08). The pelvic pain score did not correlate with PGP 9.5 intensity. [¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]The detection and measurement of nerve fibers in the eutopic endometrium using the PGP 9.5 marker was not found to be a decisive noninvasive method to diagnose endometriosis.[¤]
