Objective(s): This study was designed to assess the effect of fraxin which has various biological properties against liver injury induced by cisplatin. Materials and Methods: In our study, 24 Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to control, fraxin, cisplatin, and fraxin+cisplatin groups. Cisplatin 12 mg/kg IP and fraxin 40 mg/kg orally were applied. When the experiment ended, the rats were sacrificed and the liver tissues were taken rapidly. Liver tissue specimens were maintained under appropriate conditions. Later, biochemical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical evaluations were performed. Results: According to our biochemical findings, oxidant parameters increased while antioxidant parameters decreased in cisplatin group compared with control group. Antioxidant parameters increased but oxidant parameters decreased in fraxin + cisplatin group compared with the cisplatin group. Immunohistochemical evaluations showed that the expressions of TNF-α and Caspase-3 were negative in control and fraxin groups, whereas severe levels were found in the cisplatin group. However, it was determined that the expressions of TNF-α and Caspase-3 were in mild levels in fraxin + cisplatin treatment group. In addition, it was observed that the increase of pathological markers such as coagulation necrosis, hydropic degeneration, dilatation in sinusoid, and hyperemia in the cisplatin group were compatible with our biochemical and immunohistochemical findings. Conclusion: Biochemical, immunohistochemical, and histopathological results revealed that fraxin was effective in relieving cisplatin-induced liver damage.

Few studies have investigated the reliability of Reimers’ hip migration percentage (RMP) in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Most studies on the topic reflected rating results of physician with a similar level of experience from the same expertise. This study aimed to determine the effect of clinician's experience and expertise on the intra-and inter-observer reliability of RMP. In this retrospective observational study, hip radiographs of children with CP were identified. 5 observers with different degrees of working experience from 3 different clinical fields, including orthopedics, radiology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, performed all RMP measurements. All measurements were repeated 6 weeks later by the same observers. Inter- and intra-observer reliability for RMP measurements were assessed using Intraclass Correlation Coeficient (ICC), calculated from 2 sets of repeated measurements on a subset of 50 hips, with a 6 week apart for each observer. Fifty hip radiographs of 25 children with CP (10 females and 15 males; mean age: 6 years; age range: 2–8 years) were examined in the current study. No significant differences existed in intra-and inter-observer measurements. Kanatlı tüberkülozu Mycobacterium avium spp. tarafından oluşturulan pek çok evcil ve yabani kanatlılarda rastlanılan kronik seyirli bir hastalıktır. Bu çalışmanın materyalini Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Cerrahi kliniğine getirilen gözkapağında bir kitle (1,5 x 1,5 x 0,5 cm. ölçülerinde ve 0,88 gr ağırlığında) bulunan üç yaşında Oriental Roller ırkı bir güvercin oluşturdu. Göz kapağı ve çevresinde bulunan bu kitle anestezi altında cerrahi operasyonla total olarak alındı. Alınan kitle sitolojik ve histopatolojik olarak incelendi. Sitolojik incelemede çok sayıda langhans dev hücresi gözlendi. Histopatolojik muayenede ise; merkezinde nekroz, çevresinde çok çekirdekli langhans dev hücreleri, mononükleer hücre infiltrasyonları ve en dıştan fibröz kapsül ile çevrili tüberküllerin varlığı gözlendi. Alınan kesitlerin Ziehl-Neelsen boyama ile boyanmasında, nekrotik kitle içerisinde yoğun asit-fast basili tespit edilerek tüberküloz tanısı konuldu. Tanı sonucu hayvan sahibinin isteği üzerine ötenazi yapıldı. Nekropside iç organlarda herhangi bir patolojik bulguya rastlanmadı. Bu olgu Van yöresinde güvercinlerde bildirilen ilk avian tüberküloz vakasıdır. Van ili göçmen kuşların önemli göç yolları ve uğrak bölgelerinden biri olduğu için bölgede hastalığın görülmesi evcil ve yabani hayvanlar arasında hastalığın yayılmasında önemli bir risk faktörüdür. Bu nedenle konuyla ilgili daha fazla çalışmaların yapılması önerilmektedir., Avian tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium avium ssp., is a chronic illness that occurs in many domestic and wild birds. The material of this study was the three years old Oriental Roller pigeon that had a mass (the largest of three large masses of 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.5 and weighing 0.88 g) on the left eyelid, was brought to the Surgical Clinic of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University. The mass was totally removed by surgical operation under anesthesia. This mass was examined cytologically and histopathologically. A large number of Langhans giant cells were detected in the cytological examination. In histopathological examination, was observed necrosis in the center, multinucleated Langhans giant cells around it, mononuclear cell infiltrates and the presence of tubercles surrounded by a fibrous capsule from the outside. In the staining of these sections with Ziehl-Neelsen, tuberculosis was diagnosed by detecting dense acid-fast bacilli in the necrotic mass. Following the diagnosis, euthanasia was performed depending on the request of the animal owner. No pathological findings were found in the internal organs in the necropsy. This is the first avian tuberculosis case reported in pigeons in Van. Van is the city founded on one of the major migration routes and frequent destinations of migratory birds. Therefore, the appearance of the disease in this region is an important risk factor in spreading between domestic and wild birds. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out further studies on the subject.

Bu çalışmada, Erzurum ilinde koyun pnömonilerinde saptanan pastörellozis hastalığının insidansı ve gözlenen patolojik bulguların araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Akciğerlerin yangısı olan pnömoniler; bakteriler, mantarlar, mikoplazmalar, virüsler ve parazitler gibi enfeksiyöz veya fiziksel ve kimyasal özellikteki non-enfeksiyöz maddeler tarafından oluşturulur. Pasteurella, Haemophilus ve mikoplazma etkenleri koyunlarda fibrinli bronkopnömoni ile karakterize bir hastalık oluştururlar. Pastörellozis dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de çok sık görülmektedir. Erzurum ilindeki bir mezbahada kesilen 1586 koyuna ait akciğerlerin makroskobik muayenesinde 100’ ünde (%6.3) pnömoni lezyonları saptandı. Bu pnömonili akciğerlerden alınan örnekleri üzerinde bakteriyolojik ve patolojik incelemeler yapıldı. Bakteriyolojik incelemeler sonucunda örneklerin 17 tanesinde (%17), Pasteurella spp. etkenleri saptandı. Histopatolojik muayeneler için akciğer örneklerinden hazırlanan preparatlar hematoksilen-eozin (HE) ile boyanıp ışık mikroskobunda incelendi ve bu inceleme sonucunda akciğerlerin %26’sında fibrinli bronkopnömoni gözlendi., In this study, it was aimed to investigate the observed pathological findings and the incidence of pasteurellosis disease detected in sheep pneumonia in Erzurum province. Pneumonias, which is the inflammation of the lungs, is created by bacteria, fungi, mycoplasmas, viruses and parasites (infectious), or substances of physical and chemical properties (noninfectious). Pasteurella, Haemophilus and Mycoplasma agents cause a disease characterized by fibrinous bronchopneumonia in sheep. Pasteurellosis is very common in our country as in the world. In the macroscopic examination of the lung of 1586 sheep slaughtered in a slaughterhouse in Erzurum province, pneumonia lesions in 100 sheep (6.3%) were detected. Bacteriological and pathological examinations were performed on samples taken from the lungs with this pneumonia. As a result of bacteriological examinations, Pasteurella spp. agents were detected in 17 (17%) of the samples. Preparations prepared from lung samples for histopathological examinations were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and examined under a light microscope. As a result of this examination, 26% of the lungs had fibrinous bronchopneumonia.

Objective: Pathological fractures are among the most common complications of malign neoplasms. The femur is the most frequently involved bone following spinal metastasis. This study retrospectively analyzed patients who had been surgically treated for proximal femur metastasis and aimed to determine the factors that affect survival rates. Methods: This is an IRB approved, retrospective review of all patients diagnosed with pathological fractures due to proximal femur metastasis and treated surgically in a single institution from 2004 to 2012. The Karnovsky scoring system was also used to evaluate functionality. Statistical comparisons were made by forming patient subgroups based on the existence of a primary diagnosis, the surgical method selected, and the existence of complications. The analyses attempted to recognize the factors that affect mortality. Results: Our review of the archives showed that a total of 34 patients (20 female; 14 male). Mean patient age was 59.3±13.8. The primary tumor was already diagnosed in 27 patients on admission. Pathological fractures seemed to occur at an average of 53.4 (±44.5) months after primary diagnosis. Long-stemmed cemented arthroplasty was used in 15 patients and IM nail was used in 19 patients. Patients with IM nail were mobilized significantly earlier and hospitalization was shorter respectively (p=0.04, p=0.006). The need for a second surgical operation was statistically similar in the two groups (p=0.24). After an approximate follow-up of 26.5±21.9 months, the average Karnovsky score was similar (54.1 vs. 48.3; p=0.07). The patients who did not have a second skeletal system metastasis or other organ metastasis survived significantly longer (24.7 vs. 11.3; p=0.02). Conclusıons: Shorter hospitalization and earlier mobilization can be in patients who were treated with an IM nail. Higher survival is expected for patients who do not have distant organ or skeletal system metastases at the time of surgically treating pathological fractures. Bu çalışmada Pistacia. lentiscus var. chia fidan üretimi için en uygun yöntemler değerlendirilmiş, üretim yöntemlerinin her biri için safha maliyet analizleri yapılarak birim maliyetler bulunmuştur. En düşük maliyetle en az anaç kullanılarak en kısa zamanda en fazla miktarda üretimin hangi yöntemle yapılabileceği araştırılmıştır.Aşılama ile fidan üretim yöntemlerinde kalem aşısı, bindirme aşı ve göz aşısı yapılmış; en yüksek aşı tutma oranının kalem aşısında (%20) olduğu ve aşı fidan birim maliyetinin 56,51 TL olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan safha maliyet analizinde fire oranının çok yüksek olması ve bakım masraflarının maliyeti artırması nedeniyle fidan üretim birim maliyetinin çok yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla yapılan tüm aşılama çalışmaları harcanan emek ve masrafın karşılığını vermemektedir. Çelikle üretim yöntemi ile yapılan fidan üretim çalışmalarında başarı oranının % 50, fidan birim maliyetinin 21,93 TL olduğu tespit edilmiş, yapılan safha maliyet analizinde fire oranının %50 olması ve bakım masraflarının maliyeti yükseltmesi nedeniyle, köklendirme maliyetinin düşük olmasına rağmen, çelikle üretim birim maliyetinin havai köklendirmeye oranla daha yüksek olduğu ancak havai köklendirmeye alternatif olarak sakız fidanı üretimine uygun olduğu görülmüştür.Havai köklendirme yöntemi ile yapılan fidan üretim çalışmalarında başarı oranının %98, fidan birim maliyetinin 15,50 TL olduğu tespit edilmiş, yapılan safha maliyet analizinde bakım masraflarının olmaması ve fire oranının çok düşük olması birim maliyetin düşük olmasını sağlamıştır. Havai köklendirme yönteminin fidan seri üretimine en uygun yöntem olduğu, en kısa zamanda en az emek ve masrafla en fazla sayıda fidan üretiminin bu yöntemle yapılabileceği belirlenmiştir. In this thesis Pistacia lentiscus var. chia, the most suitable methods for seedling production were evaluated and stage cost analysis was performed for each of the production methods and the unit costs were found. The method of producing the most amount of production in the shortest time by using the least rootstock at the lowest cost was investigated.Pen vaccine, thrust vaccine and eye vaccine were used in seedling production methods by grafting. The highest vaccine holding rate of these methods was found to be 20% in the pen vaccine and the unit cost of seedlings was 56,51 TL. In the stage cost analysis, it was found that the unit cost of seedling production was very high due to the high waste rate and the maintenance costs. Therefore, all vaccination studies do not provide for the labor and costs spent.The success rate was determined as 50% and the unit cost of seedlings was 21,93 TL. In the phase cost analysis of this method, although the waste rate is 50% and maintenance costs increase the cost, although the rooting cost is low, it is seen that the unit cost of production with steel is higher than the overhead rooting but it is suitable for gum sap production as an alternative to overhead rooting.The success rate was 98% and the unit cost of seedlings was 15,50 TL. In the phase cost analysis of this method, there is no maintenance costs and the waste rate is very low, so that the unit cost is low. It has been determined that overhead rooting method is the most suitable method for mass production of seedlings and that the maximum number of seedlings can be produced with minimum effort and cost in the shortest time. 99

In general, bacterialpathogens are the focus of mastitis studies. Symptoms of mastitis may be absentin cases of viral infection, because other clinical symptoms are more dominant.Subclinical mastitis cases cannot be generally diagnosed and as a consequence,they are not investigated very well. This may lead to the inability of viralagents to be predicted in bovine subclinical cases. There are many viral agentsassociated with bovine mastitis and which may cause subclinical mastitis indairy cattle. However, since viral infections have not been much investigatedin mastitis studies, strategies developed against subclinical mastitis may beinadequate. Bovine Parainfluenza 3 (BPIV-3), Bovine Papillomaviruses (BPV),Bovine Herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) could cause clinical and subclinicalmastitis. The aim of the present studywas to investigate the presence and prevalence of BPIV-3, BPV, and BHV-1 viralagents in subclinical mastitis case in Erzurum province. For this purpose, 120 bovine mammary tissueswith no macroscopic lesions were collected and these tissues were examined withhistopathology and immunofluorescence methods. Thereafter, all viruses wereidentified with qRT-PCR in mammary tissues. Subklinik mastitis olguları genellikle teşhis edilemediği için çok iyiaraştırılmamıştır. Bu durum sığır subklinik mastitis vakalarında viralajanların önlenememesine yol açabilmektedir. Sığırlarda mastitis ile ilişkilive süt sığırlarında subklinik mastite neden olabilecek birçok viral ajantanımlanmıştır. Bununla birlikte, mastitis çalışmalarında viral enfeksiyonlarçok fazla araştırılmamış olduğundan, subklinik mastitislere karşı geliştirilenstratejiler yetersiz olabilir. Sığır Parainfluenza 3 (BPIV-3), Sığırpapillomavirüsleri (BPV), sığır herpes virüsü 1 (BHV-1) klinik ve subklinikmastitlerde rol aldığı düşünülen viral ajanlardır. Bu çalışmada, Erzurumilindeki subklinik mastitis olgularındaki BPIV-3, BPV ve BHV-1 viral ajanlarınınvarlığının ve prevalansının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla 120 büyükbaşhayvanın makroskobik olarak lezyon izlenmyen meme doku örnekleri toplandı ve budokular histopatoloji ve immünofloresan yöntemlerle incelendi. Ayrıca, memedokularında belirlenen viral etkenlerin varlığı qRT-PCR ile araştırıldı.Toplanan 120 örneğe yapılan histopatolojik değerlendirme sonucunda (56 kronikmastit, 22 akut mastit) 78 örnekte yangısal değişikliklere rastlandı. Tümdokulara uygulanan immünofloresan boyama sonuçlarına göre 120 olguda kronikmastitis tanısı konan 50 örnekte pozitif reaksiyonlara rastlandı. qRT-PCRsonuçlarına göreimmunfloresanboyama sonuçlarıyla uyumlu olarak toplam 50 (%41.6) örnekte etkenlerin DNAvarlıkları tespit edildi. BPIV-3 etkenine 26/120, BPV-2 etkenine 8/120, BHV-1 etkenine 16/120oranında olduğu tespit edildi. Sadece qRT-PCR yöntemi kullanılarak 7/120oranında BPV-1 etkenine rastlandı. Ayrıca, 5/120 oranında BPIV3 ve BHV-1, 3/120 oranında BPIV-3 ve BPV-1,2/120 oranında ise BHV-1 ve BPV-2 etkenlerine birlikte rastlandı. Yapılançalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, mastitis hastalığında viral ajanlarınrolü açık bir şekilde aydınlatılmamış olmakla birlikte, viral ajanlarınsubklinik mastitli meme dokularında yaygın olduğunu tespit edilmiştir.

Bu çalışmada bağırsak parazitlerinin süs balıklarıiçin ciddi sağlık sorunu oluşturabildiğinin gösterilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Üretimigerçekleştirilen Sarıprenses balıklarının (Labidochromiscaeruleus) bir kısmında aşırı zayıflama, dengesiz yüzme, asites ve deridematlaşma gibi değişikliklerin ardından öldükleri görüldü. Bu şekilde ölenbalıkların ölüm sebebinin saptanması maksadıyla ölen balıklarda nekropsi işlemigerçekleştirildi. Nekropsi sonucunda iç organlar diseke edilip, histopatolojikolarak incelendi. HxE ile boyanan preparatlarda yapılan histopatolojikincelemede, bağırsakta yoğun miktarda parazit varlığı tespit edildi. Aşırıparazit enfastasyonunun bağırsakta ciddi fonksiyon kaybına yol açabilecekderecede önemli patolojik hasarlar meydana getirdiği görülmüştür. Ticari önemtaşıyan bu süs balıklarının ciddi parazit enfestasyonuna maruz kaldıkları ve bubalıkların ölüm nedenlerinin yoğun parazit varlığından kaynaklanabileceğikanısına varılmıştır. Bu tür balıklarda yapılan çalışmaların az olması ve süsbalıklarındaki iç parazit araştırmalarının yetersiz olması çalışmamızı önemlikılmaktadır., In this study, it was aimedto show that intestinal parasites can cause serious health problems forornamental fishes. In some of the raised Electric yellow cichlid fishes (Labidochromis caeruleus) were observedto show excessive weight loss, unbalanced swim behaviour, asites and skindulling, followed by death. Necropsy was carried out onthedied fishes in orderto determine the cause of death. As a result of necropsy the internal organswere dissected and examined histopathologically. Histopathological examinationon preparations stained with HxE showed intense intestinal parasiteinfestation. It has been shown that the extreme parasitic infestation can causeserious pathological damage so as to lead severe loss of function. It wasconcluded that ornamental fish of commercial importance were subjected tosevere parasitic infestation and that the causes of death of these fishes couldbe due to the presence of severe parasites. The lack of studies on this fish speciesof and inadequate research on internal parasite infestationin ornamental fishpoint out importance of this study.
