Abstract Background There has been an increase in the number of nurses returning to work after childbirth (NRWCs) in Chinese hospital. Social support is important for NRWCs. Objective To develop and validate a perceived social support scale for NRWCs in China. Method The original items were based on a literature review, the social support theory, and semi-structured interviews. The Delphi technique was used to adjust further and screen the scale entries to form an initial draft of the scale. From February to October 2023, we recruited 627 NRWCs from hospitals in 12 provinces of China. The psychometric attributes of the scale were examined by construct validity, content validity, test–retest reliability, and internal consistency reliability. The STROBE checklist was used to guide the submission. Results 4 dimensions and 22 items compose the initial scale. Exploratory factor analysis verified a four-factor scale structure. The confirmatory factor analysis results showed that the four-factor structure model fitted well. The resulting scale contains 4 dimensions with 18 items. The item-level content validity index ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of four dimensions and total scale were respectively 0.957, 0.899, 0.870, 0.945, 0.967. The reliability of the scale over time was further verified, with a coefficient of 0.809 for the overall scale and a range from 0.682 to 0.718 for each domain. Conclusion The perceived social support scale for NRWCs is a reliable and valid instrument. The application of the perceived social support scale for NRWCs would improve the assessment of social support among NRWCs.

The prevalence of infectious diseases in sheep and goats has a significant impact on the development of the sheep and goat industry and public health security. The identification and analysis of pathogens are crucial for infectious disease research; however, existing databases pay little attention to sheep and goat diseases, and pathogen data are relatively scattered. Therefore, the effective integration, analysis and visualization of these data will help us conduct in-depth research on sheep and goat infectious diseases and promote the formulation of disease prevention and control strategies. This article considered the pathogens of 44 infectious diseases in sheep and goats as the main research objects and collected and downloaded relevant scientific literature, pathogen genomes, pathogen transcriptomes, pathogen occurrence records, and other data. The C# programming language and an SQL Server database were used to construct and realize the functions of the Sheep and Goat Pathogen Database (SGPD) within a B/S architecture based on the ASP.NET platform. The SGPD mainly provides an integrated platform for sheep and goat pathogen data retrieval, auxiliary analysis, and user upload, including several functionalities: (1) a Disease Introduction module that queries basic information regarding the 44 recorded sheep and goat infectious diseases, such as epidemiology, clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and prevention and control measures; (2) an Omics Information module that allows users to query and download the genome and transcriptome data related to the pathogens of sheep and goat infectious disease, and provide sequence alignment functionality; (3) a Pathogen Structure module that enables users to view electron micrographs of pathogen structure and tissue sections related to sheep and goat disease from publicly published research; (4) a Literature Search module based on the “Pathogen Dictionary” search strategy that facilitates searches for published research related to pathogens of infectious disease; (5) a Science Popularization module that allows users to view popular science materials related to sheep and goat infectious diseases; and (6) a Public Health module that allows users to query the risk factors of zoonotic disease transmission and the corresponding related literature, and realize the visualization of pathogen distribution. The SGPD is a specialized sheep and goat pathogen information database that provides comprehensive resources and technical support for sheep and goat infectious disease research, prevention, and control.

Aim: To explore the lactating nurses' experiences of return to work after lifting COVID-19 lockdown. Background: Return to work is a key reason for the low rates of breastfeeding. Especially after lifting COVID-19 lockdown, case counts reached recorded highs. So lactating nurses face more challenges when they return to work. Method: The empirical phenomenology method was used to conduct a qualitative study. Lactating nurses were recruited in a tertiary hospital through purposive and snowball sampling, and participated in semi-structured video interviews. Colaizzi's method was used to analyze the data. Results: Three themes and 10 sub-themes emerged from the interview data of 15 participants. The first theme was “preparation for return to work”, which helped lactating nurses adapt to return to work quickly. The second was “experiences of return to work”. The inconvenience of pumping was mentioned repeatedly. In addition, the flexible work schedule was highlighted. The third was “experiences of infection”. The attitudes toward breastfeeding differed due to different perceptions of COVID-19. Conclusions: Lactation nurses easily interrupted or stopped breastfeeding when they returned to work after lifting COVID-19 lockdown. Recommendations include the further provision of longer periods of leave, flexible working arrangements, separate facilities for breast pumping, and breastfeeding strategies for epidemics.

In the contemporary context, the significance of detecting harmful gases cannot be overstated, as it profoundly affects both environmental integrity and human welfare. In this study, theoretically, density functional theory was employed to explore the adsorption behavior of three prevalent hazardous gases, namely CO, NO2, and SO2, on silver-atom-modified tungsten disulfide (WS2) monolayer. The multifaceted analysis encompasses an array of critical aspects, including the adsorption structure, adsorption energy, electron transfer, and charge density difference to unravel the adsorption behavior. Further exploration of electronic properties encompassing band structure, density of states (DOS), and work function was conducted. The ambit of our exploration extends to the desorption properties based on adsorption-free energies. Among these gas molecules, NO2 stands out with the highest adsorption energy and the most substantial electron transfer. Notably, each of these adsorption processes triggers a redistribution of electron density, with NO2 exhibiting the most pronounced effect. Furthermore, the adsorptions of CO, NO2, and SO2 induce a noteworthy reduction in the band gap, prompting the reconfiguration of molecular orbitals. Additionally, the adsorption of these gases also leads to an increase in the work function of Ag-WS2 to a different extent. Our investigation of desorption properties uncovers that Ag-WS2 can adeptly function at ambient temperatures to detect CO and SO2. However, for NO2 detection, higher temperatures become imperative due to the necessity for poison removal. The implications of our findings underscore the tremendous potential of Ag-WS2 as a sensing material for detecting these hazardous gases. Our research extends to the broader realm of surface modification of transition metal dichalcogenides and their promising applications in the domain of gas sensing.

BackgroundTo solve the disadvantages of traditional fetal monitoring such as time-consuming, cumbersome steps and low coverage, it is paramount to develop remote fetal monitoring. Remote fetal monitoring expands time and space, which is expected to popularize fetal monitoring in remote areas with the low availability of health services. Pregnant women can transmit fetal monitoring data from remote monitoring terminals to the central monitoring station so that doctors can interpret it remotely and detect fetal hypoxia in time. Fetal monitoring involving remote technology has also been carried out, but with some conflicting results. ObjectiveThe review aimed to (1) examine the efficacy of remote fetal monitoring in improving maternal-fetal outcomes and (2) identify research gaps in the field to make recommendations for future research. MethodsWe did a systematic literature search with PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Open Grey in March 2022. Randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental trials of remote fetal monitoring were identified. Two reviewers independently searched articles, extracted data, and assessed each study. Primary outcomes (maternal-fetal outcomes) and secondary outcomes (health care usage) were presented as relative risks or mean difference. The review was registered on PROSPERO as CRD42020165038. ResultsOf the 9337 retrieved literature, 9 studies were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis (n=1128). Compared with a control group, remote fetal monitoring reduced the risk of neonatal asphyxia (risk ratio 0.66, 95% CI 0.45-0.97; P=.04), with a low heterogeneity of 24%. Other maternal-fetal outcomes did not differ significantly between remote fetal monitoring and routine fetal monitoring, such as cesarean section (P=.21; I2=0%), induced labor (P=.50; I2=0%), instrumental vaginal birth (P=.45; I2=0%), spontaneous delivery (P=.85; I2=0%), gestational weeks at delivery (P=.35; I2=0%), premature delivery (P=.47; I2=0%), and low birth weight (P=.71; I2=0%). Only 2 studies performed a cost analysis, stating that remote fetal monitoring can contribute to reductions in health care costs when compared with conventional care. In addition, remote fetal monitoring might affect the number of visits and duration in the hospital, but it was not possible to draw definite conclusions about the effects due to the limited number of studies. ConclusionsRemote fetal monitoring seems to reduce the incidence of neonatal asphyxia and health care costs compared with routine fetal monitoring. To strengthen the claims on the efficacy of remote fetal monitoring, further well-designed studies are necessary, especially in high-risk pregnant women, such as pregnant women with diabetes, pregnant women with hypertension, and so forth.

Pioneering explorations of the two-dimensional (2D) inorganic layered crystals (ILCs) in electronics have boosted low-dimensional materials research beyond the prototypical but semi-metallic graphene. Thanks to species variety and compositional richness, ILCs are further activated as hosting matrices to reach intrinsic magnetism due to their semiconductive natures. Herein, we briefly review the latest progresses of manipulation strategies that introduce magnetism into the nonmagnetic 2D and quasi-2D ILCs from the first-principles computational perspectives. The matrices are concerned within naturally occurring species such as MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, BN, and synthetic monolayers such as ZnO and g-C2N. Greater attention is spent on nondestructive routes through magnetic dopant adsorption; defect engineering; and a combination of doping-absorbing methods. Along with structural stability and electric uniqueness from hosts, tailored magnetic properties are successfully introduced to low-dimensional ILCs. Different from the three-dimensional (3D) bulk or zero-dimensional (0D) cluster cases, origins of magnetism in the 2D space move past most conventional physical models. Besides magnetic interactions, geometric symmetry contributes a non-negligible impact on the magnetic properties of ILCs, and surprisingly leads to broken symmetry for magnetism. At the end of the review, we also propose possible combination routes to create 2D ILC magnetic semiconductors, tentative theoretical models based on topology for mechanical interpretations, and next-step first-principles research within the domain.

Multi-object tracking (MOT) has seen rapid improvements in recent years. However, frequent occlusion remains a significant challenge in MOT, as it can cause targets to become smaller or disappear entirely, resulting in low-quality targets, leading to trajectory interruptions and reduced tracking performance. Different from some existing methods, which discarded the low-quality targets or ignored low-quality target attributes. LQTTrack, with a low-quality association strategy (LQA), is proposed to pay more attention to low-quality targets. In the association scheme of LQTTrack, firstly, multi-scale feature fusion of FPN (MSFF-FPN) is utilized to enrich the feature information and assist in subsequent data association. Secondly, the normalized Wasserstein distance (NWD) is integrated to replace the original Inter over Union (IoU), thus overcoming the limitations of the traditional IoU-based methods that are sensitive to low-quality targets with small sizes and enhancing the robustness of low-quality target tracking. Moreover, the third association stage is proposed to improve the matching between the current frame’s low-quality targets and previously interrupted trajectories from earlier frames to reduce the problem of track fragmentation or error tracking, thereby increasing the association success rate and improving overall multi-object tracking performance. Objective This study aims to share our experience with the arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach for neurointerventional procedures and evaluate its efficacy and safety. Methods The arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach was performed using the right/ bilateral proximal radial arteries and the right forearm superficial vein system, guided by ultrasonic guidance. Arterial access closure was achieved using a transradial band radial compression device, while manual compression was utilized for venous approach closure. Results Thirteen procedures were successfully performed using the arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access approach, yielding favorable outcomes. The procedures included dural arteriovenous fistula embolization (seven cases), cerebral arteriovenous malformation embolization (four cases), venous sinus thrombosis catheter-directed thrombolysis and intravenous thrombectomy (one case), and cerebral venous sinus stenosis manometry (one case). All procedures were uneventful, allowing patients to ambulate on the same day. At discharge, all patients exhibited modified Rankin scores of 0–2, without any access site or perioperative complications. Conclusion This double-center study preliminarily demonstrates the feasibility and safety of arm-only combined transarterial and transvenous access applied in neurointerventional procedures for complicated cerebrovascular diseases. The proximal radial artery and forearm superficial vein are recommended as the primary access sites. Unobstructed compression is strongly recommended for radial approach closure. Classical scrapie is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy that attacks the central nervous system of sheep and goats. Since its discovery in the 18th century, the disease has caused enormous economic losses and public health impacts in continental Europe. In the late 20th century, classical scrapie began to spread to places, such as Asia and the Americas, becoming a disease of global concern. In this study, based on prion occurrence records and high-resolution environmental layers, a risk assessment of classical scrapie in China was performed using a maximum entropy model. The model achieved an area under the curve value of 0.906 (95% confidence interval, 0.0883-0.0929). Sheep distribution density, road density, goat distribution density, minimum temperature of the coldest month, port density, and precipitation of the driest quarter were identified as important factors affecting the occurrence of classical scrapie. The risk map showed that potential high-risk areas in China were mainly located in Northeast China, North China, and Northwest China. This study can provide a valuable reference for the prevention of classical scrapie in China. According to the environmental variables and risk areas of classical scrapie, implementing monitoring and early warning measures in these areas is recommended to reduce the possibility of classical scrapie occurrence and transmission. ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) after concurrent chemoradiation (CCRT) in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) via meta-analysis.MethodsA systematic literature search of MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was conducted from January 10, 1966 to May 20, 2022. Randomized controlled trials and observational studies comparing the CCRT alone with CCRT plus ACT were included. The literature search, quality assessment, and data extraction were conducted by two reviewers independently. The primary endpoints were 3-year rates of overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Complete response rate, local recurrence, distant metastasis, and adverse events were secondary outcomes. The hazard ratios (HRs) and relative risk (RR) were pooled.ResultsNine studies with a total of 2732 patients were included in this meta-analysis, including 1411 patients in the CCRT group and 1321 in the CCRT plus ACT group. The HR for 3-year rates of OS and PFS of the CCRT group compared with the CCRT plus ACT group was 0.72 [95%confidence interval (CI) = 0.44–1.17] and 0.78 (95%CI = 0.5–1.75), respectively. No significant differences were observed between the two groups in the complete response rate (RR = 1.06, 95%CI = 0.96–1.16). However, local recurrence and distant metastasis were significantly lower in the CCRT plus ACT group than in the CCRT group (RR = 0.63, 95%CI = 0.44 –0.91 and RR = 0.64, 95%CI = 0.47–0.88). Grade 3–4 acute toxicities were more frequent in the CCRT plus ACT group (RR = 1.73, 95%CI =1.19–2.52).ConclusionAlthough associated with a decreased risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis, ACT did not significantly improve the survival rate and the complete response rate with increasing grade 3–4 acute toxicities in patients with LACC. Purpose: This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of camrelizumab in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV–HCC) patients and non-HBV, non-HCV hepatocellular carcinoma (NBNC–HCC) patients in China.Materials and methods: A total of 54 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who received camrelizumab were included in this retrospective study from January 2019 to December 2021. The patients were assigned to the HBV–HCC group (n = 28) and the NBNC–HCC group (n = 26). The primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoints were the objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and adverse events (AEs). Multivariate analysis using Cox proportional hazard regression was used to identify independent prognostic factors. A nomogram model was subsequently established based on independent prognostic factors.Results: The mean duration of follow-up was 12.7 ± 3.6 months. The median OS was not determined. The median PFS in the HBV–HCC group was significantly longer than that in the NBNC–HCC group (9.2 vs. 6.7 months, p = 0.003). The ORR and DCR in the HBV–HCC group were significantly higher than those in the NBNC–HCC group (ORR, 28.6% vs. 7.7%, p = 0.048; DCR, 71.4% vs. 42.3%, p = 0.031). No significant differences in the total incidence of AEs were found between the HBV–HCC group and the NBNC–HCC group (75.0% vs. 69.2%, p = 0.224). Multivariate regression analysis identified etiology, AFP level, and vascular invasion as independent prognostic factors (all p < 0.05).Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that camrelizumab is more effective in HBV–HCC patients than in NBNC–HCC patients, with manageable safety.

NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) proteins are the plant-specific transcription factors (TFs) which are important in plant response to abiotic stresses. However, knowledge about the functional role that NACs play in pepper abiotic stress tolerance is limited. In this study, we isolated a NAC TF gene, CaNAC035, from pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), where the protein is localized in the nucleus and functions as a transcriptional activator. CaNAC035 expression is induced by low and high temperatures, osmotic stress, salt, gibberellic acid (GA), methyl-jasmonic acid (MeJA), salicylic acid (SA), and abscisic acid (ABA). To understand the function of CaNAC035 in the abiotic stress responsep, we used virus-induced gene silencing in pepper to knockdown the CaNAC035 and overexpressed the CaNAC035 in Arabidopsis. The results showed that pepper seedlings in which CaNAC035 was silenced, showed more damage than the control pepper plants after cold, NaCl, and mannitol treatments. Correspondingly increased electrolyte leakage, a higher level of malondialdehyde (MDA), H2O2, and superoxide radicals were found after cold treatments. CaNAC035-silenced seedlings exhibited lower chlorophyll content while CaNAC035-overexpressed Arabidopsis plants had higher germination rate and fresh weight after mannitol and NaCl treatments. We also reported 18 proteins that potentially interact with CaNAC035 and may participate in processes such as the stress response, resistance, and photosynthesis. Our results suggest that CaNAC035 is a positive regulator of abiotic stress tolerance in pepper which acts through multiple signaling pathways.

Heme is a ligand for the human nuclear receptors (NR) REV-ERBalpha and REV-ERBbeta, which are transcriptional repressors that play important roles in circadian rhythm, lipid and glucose metabolism, and diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, inflammation, and cancer. Here we show that transcription repression mediated by heme-bound REV-ERBs is reversed by the addition of nitric oxide (NO), and that the heme and NO effects are mediated by the C-terminal ligand-binding domain (LBD). A 1.9 A crystal structure of the REV-ERBbeta LBD, in complex with the oxidized Fe(III) form of heme, shows that heme binds in a prototypical NR ligand-binding pocket, where the heme iron is coordinately bound by histidine 568 and cysteine 384. Under reducing conditions, spectroscopic studies of the heme-REV-ERBbeta complex reveal that the Fe(II) form of the LBD transitions between penta-coordinated and hexa-coordinated structural states, neither of which possess the Cys384 bond observed in the oxidized state. In addition, the Fe(II) LBD is also able to bind either NO or CO, revealing a total of at least six structural states of the protein. The binding of known co-repressors is shown to be highly dependent upon these various liganded states. REV-ERBs are thus highly dynamic receptors that are responsive not only to heme, but also to redox and gas. Taken together, these findings suggest new mechanisms for the systemic coordination of molecular clocks and metabolism. They also raise the possibility for gas-based therapies for the many disorders associated with REV-ERB biological functions.
