Resumen:Las deficiencias minerales son un problema de gran impacto productivo a nivel mundial. En el Noroeste argentino la cría extensiva es una de las actividades económicas más importantes y está en franco crecimiento. En esta región los estudios sobre enfermedades carenciales son escasos y parciales. El presente trabajo tiene por objeto describir variaciones estacionales de los niveles séricos de calcio, fósforo, magnesio, cobre y zinc en vacas de cría y sus terneras. En un establecimiento ganadero se seleccionaron 20 vacas y 20 terneras que fueron mantenidos en condiciones de pastoreo y sin suplementación externa. Se efectuaron muestreos de sangre a intervalos de 3 meses durante un año. Las determinaciones de calcio, magnesio, cobre y zinc en plasma se efectuaron por espectrofotometría de absorción atómica y la de fósforo por espectrofotometría uv-visible. Los resultados indican la existencia de hipocupremia severa a moderada tanto en vacas (Promedio: 26,6 ±13 ?g/dL) como en terneras (Promedio: 26,2 ±14 ?g/dL) durante todos los períodos muestreados. Además se observaron niveles subnormales de calcio durante los muestreos invernales (junio y septiembre) en ambas categorías. Este trabajo confirma que el cobre puede comportarse como factores limitantes en las condiciones evaluadas.Abstract: Mineral deficiencies are a problem of great productive impact worldwide. In the Argentine Northwest (NOA) extensive breeding is one of the most important economic activities and it is in frank growth. In the NOA, studies on deficiency diseases are scarce and partial. The present work aims to describe throughout the year variations of serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper and zinc in beef cows and rearing calves. In a farm, 20 cows and 20 weaned heifer calves were selected, which were maintained under grazing conditions without mineral supplementation. Blood samples were taken at intervals of 3 months for one year. Serum levels of calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and phosphorus by UV-visible spectrophotometry. The results indicate the existence of severe or moderate hypocupremia in the calves (average= 26.6 ±13 ?g/dl) and cows (average=26.2 ±14 ?g/dl) during all sampled periods. Subnormal levels of calcium were observed during the winter (June and September) in both groups. This work confirms that copper and calcium can behave as limiting factors in the evaluated conditions.

Una encuesta transversal ad hoc se llevó a cabo en veintitrés establecimientos dedicados a la cría bovina (ECB) del depto. de Guachipas, Salta, con el objetivo de describir la presencia de enfermedades y prácticas de manejo en sus rodeos. Se recabaron datos del manejo general y sanitario en particular. Se procesaron sueros para el diagnóstico de brucelosis por las pruebas tamiz del antígeno bufferado en placa y confirmadas por polarización fluorescente, herpesvirus bovino tipo 1 (BHV-1), Neospora, Babesia bovis, B. bigemina y Anaplasma utilizando ELISA indirecto y para leptospirosis, microaglutinación. Se determinaron los valores de Cu2+, Zn2+, Mg2+ y Ca2+ sérico por espectrofotometría de absorción atómica. En heces, se realizó el recuento de huevos de helmintos por gramo de heces (hpg) y la diferenciación de géneros por coprocultivo. Los ECB muestreados criaban en forma extensiva en promedio 394,2±876,4 vacunos, sin contar los terneros. Según declaraciones de los encuestados, el promedio de la tasa de mortalidad anual fue del 10,2±3,8% y el 70,6% de las EBC dijo tener abortos. Solo el 13,6% de toros fue positivos a Campylobacter fetus y ninguno a Tritrichomonas foetus. En un 77,3% de los ECB se diagnosticó diarrea neonatal y en un ECB rabia paresiante. Las seroprevalencias medias de los ECB positivos a brucelosis, leptospirosis, BHV-1, neosporosis, B. bovis, B. bigemina y anaplasmosis fueron respectivamente de 0%, 76,9%, 86,7%, 90,0%, 100%, 83,3% y 85,7%. En 100% de los ECB manifestaron tener infestaciones con Rhipicephalus microplus hacia el final de verano y otoño y el 55% muertes debido a tristeza bovina. El promedio de los hpg en terneros fue de 289±187, con Cooperia, Haemonchus, Ostertagia y Trichostrongylus como NGI predominantes. En un 36,9% de los ECB se diagnosticó fasciolosis. El 18,2% de las ECB describió la presencia, a la faena, de quistes hidatídicos. Los promedios en los ECB de cobre, zinc, magnesio y calcio séricos fueron respectivamente 0,50±0,1 ppm, 0,64±0,1 ppm, 2,41±0,4 mg/dl y 13,0 ±0,8 mg/dl. Un 70% de los ECB dijo tener casos de dermatitis por cegadera (Heterophyllaea pustulata) y de muertes (63,2%) en animales jóvenes o nuevos por romerillo (Baccharis coridifolia) y en menor medida hediondilla (Cestrum parqui). Un 78,3% de los propietarios declararon tener problemas de pérdidas de terneros por pumas y cóndores. Estos primeros resultados muestran la importancia de llevar a cabo estudios más específicos respecto de la salud de los rodeos para incrementar la producción y el bienestar general de las familias productoras. A cross-sectional survey was performed in 23 cattle herds (ECB) of the Department of Guachipas Salta, with the aim of describing disease occurrence and management practices. Farmers were subjected to an ad hoc survey to gather data on general management and specific health issues. Sera were processed to diagnose brucellosis using the BPA screening test and positive sera were confirmed by FPA test; bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1), Neospora, Babesia bovis B. bigemina and Anaplasma were tested by indirect ELISA, and leptospirosis by microagglutination test. Serum Cu2+, Zn2+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Fecal samples were taken for eggs counts per gram of feaces (epg) and identifying genera by coproculture. ECB had on average 394.2±876.4 bovines (not including calves). Owners declared a mean annual mortality rate per herd of 10.2 ±3.8% and abortions were recorded in 70.6% of the ECB. No Tritrichomonas foetus and only 13.6% of Campylobacter fetus infections were diagnosed. Neonatal diarrhea were recorded in 77.3% of the ECB and rabies case in one herd. Seroprevalence of brucellosis, leptospirosis, BHV-1, neosporosis, B. bovis, B. bigemina and anaplasmosis in ECB was 0%, 79.6%, 86.7%, 90.0%, 100%, 83.3% and 85.7% respectively. The 100% of the ECB declared Rhipicephalus microplus infections forward late summer and autumn and the 55% babesiosis and anaplasmosis cases. Mean epg of calves was 289±187, with Cooperia, Haemonchus, Ostertagia and Trichostrongylus being the prevailing GIN. Fasciola infections were recorded in 36.9% of the ECB. The presence of hydatid cysts in slaughtered animals were indicated by 18.2% of ECB. Mean serum cooper, zinc, magnesium and calcium were 0.50±0.1 ppm, 0.64±0.1 ppm, 2.41±0,4mg/dl y 13.0±0.8 mg/dl respectively. A 70% of the ECB reported cases of cegadera (Heterophyllaea pustulata) and some death (63.2%) were stated by farmers by the ingestion of romerillo (Baccharis coridifolia) and secondly of hediondilla (Cestrum parqui) by young o new foreign animals. Farmers (78.3%) indicated loss of animals mostly due to the attack by cougars and condors. These first results regarding show the importance of conducting specific studies about the health of herds in order to increase competitiveness and the welfare of farming families.
