Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) can be used to reinforce steel structures depending on its high strength and lightweight resistance. To analyze and evaluate the load-carrying capacity of CFRP-reinforced steel structures. This study uses the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and the experimental tests combined to investigate the influence that the reinforcement patterns and the relevant parameters have on the load-carrying capacity. We made specimens with different reinforcement patterns. Take the steel beam specimen with full reinforcement as an example. Compared with the load-carrying capacity of the steel beam reinforced by two-layer CFRP cloth, that respectively increases by 5.16% and 11.1% when the number of the CFRP cloth increases to four and six, respectively. Based on a specimen set consisting of CFRP-reinforced steel structures under different reinforcement patterns, the random forest algorithm is used to develop an evaluation model for the load carrying. The performance test results show that the MAE (Mean Absolute Error) of the evaluation model can reach 0.12 and the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) is 0.25, presenting a good prediction accuracy, which lays a solid foundation for the research on the CFRP-based reinforcement technology and process. Due to their ability to prevent or slow the spread of fires, fire-retardant coatings are utilized as the main means of fire protection for steel structures, combining easy application and high economic efficiency. This study investigates the effects of the particle size and dosage of expanded vermiculite (EV) on the fire resistance and application performance of coatings. Ammonium polyphosphate, melamine, and pentaerythritol were used as intumescent fire-retardant systems, along with waterborne hydroxyl-modified acrylic resins as the film-forming substances. The properties of fire resistance coatings were tested via scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI), and cone calorimetry. The excellent fire performance of the coatings with 3 wt.% 300-mesh EV was proven, exhibiting a relative expansion of 30.43 times. Moreover, the surface structure of the charcoal layer was dense. The effectiveness of viscoelastic dampers as passive control devices has been demonstrated in the past through both experimental and numerical investigations. Based on the Modal Strain Energy Method, some authors have also proposed design procedures to size the viscoelastic dampers assuming a fist-mode behavior of the structure. However, even if the damped structure is governed by the first mode of vibration, viscoelastic dampers are sensitive to the frequencies of the upper modes and transmit unexpected internal forces to braces. This paper aims to develop a simple design procedure for steel moment-resisting frames equipped with viscoelastic dampers considering the effects of the higher modes of vibrations on the internal forces transmitted from the dampers to the braces. In the perspective of a designer-oriented study, the seismic demand is evaluated through simple analytical tools, such as the lateral force method or the response spectrum analysis. The design procedure is applied to a set of steel moment-resisting frames considering two levels of seismic hazard and two types of soil. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed procedure is verified through nonlinear dynamic analysis. The paper proposes a command filtering adaptive output feedback control scheme with preset performance for a Robotic Arm Model (RAM) designed specifically for steel structures. Initially, a neural network observer is employed to approximate the nonlinear functions within the model and to estimate the unmeasured states of the system. Subsequently, within the backstepping framework, the integration of preset performance theory and command filtering technology addresses the differential complexity challenges commonly encountered in traditional backstepping methods. This approach ensures rapid convergence of the system’s tracking error within predetermined boundaries. The efficacy of this strategy is demonstrated through simulation instances.

This paper proposes a fixed-time fuzzy adaptive output feedback control scheme for the robotic arm model (RAM) of steel structures. Firstly, the process of transforming RAM into a nonlinear system is elaborated. Secondly, a fuzzy observer is designed to approximate the nonlinear function and estimate the observed state of the system. Subsequently, a fixed-time adaptive controller is constructed, ensuring the system's stability within a fixed time, with the convergence time unaffected by the initial state. Steel structures are susceptible to corrosion due to their exposure to the environment. Currently used non-destructive techniques require inspector involvement. Inaccessibility of the defective part may lead to unnoticed corrosion, allowing the corrosion to propagate and cause catastrophic structural failure over time. Autonomous corrosion detection is essential for mitigating these problems. This study investigated the effect of the type of encoder–decoder neural network and the training strategy that works the best to automate the segmentation of corroded pixels in visual images. Models using pre-trained DesnseNet121 and EfficientNetB7 backbones yielded 96.78% and 98.5% average pixel-level accuracy, respectively. Deeper EffiecientNetB7 performed the worst, with only 33% true-positive values, which was 58% less than ResNet34 and the original UNet. ResNet 34 successfully classified the corroded pixels, with 2.98% false positives, whereas the original UNet predicted 8.24% of the non-corroded pixels as corroded when tested on a specific set of images exclusive to the investigated training dataset. Deep networks were found to be better for transfer learning than full training, and a smaller dataset could be one of the reasons for performance degradation. Both fully trained conventional UNet and ResNet34 models were tested on some external images of different steel structures with different colors and types of corrosion, with the ResNet 34 backbone outperforming conventional UNet. This paper presents an investigation into the design of ammonia tanks for long-duration and high-pressure blast loads. The focus is on cylindrical steel tanks that apply as outer pressure-tight containers for double-walled tanks storing refrigerated liquefied gases. Based on limited empirical data, it is known in the tank industry that these tanks can withstand an explosion pressure up to a peak overpressure of approximately 10 kPa and 100 ms positive load duration. However, there is a growing need to design tanks for higher peak overpressures in order to establish a higher safety standard and accommodate unforeseen future requirements. This paper explores the concept of adapting established steel tank designs to handle high-pressure and long-duration overpressure due to blast events. Numerical analysis is conducted on a representative steel tank geometry subjected to a triangular blast load of 30 kPa with a 300 ms positive load duration. Various load application and calculation options are analyzed numerically. Considering the challenging nature of analyzing tank structures under blast load, the paper addresses controversial aspects discussed in the literature and presents a suitable analysis concept for a deflagration blast scenario for cylindrical tanks. The results provide insights into the expected structural behavior of the tank under high-pressure and long-duration overpressure. The main finding is that the calculation method developed in this study demonstrates the feasibility of utilizing steel tanks in scenarios involving long-duration and high-pressure blast loads. Furthermore, the paper provides recommendations to guide future studies in this area. The findings have implications for the design and construction of tanks in critical infrastructure and offer valuable insights for engineers and researchers in this field, improving safety standards and ensuring adaptability to future utilization concepts. At present, the informatization level in the construction process of steel structures is relatively low. Meanwhile, digital twin technology, with better interactive features, provides a new development direction for the intelligent construction of steel structures. Therefore, this paper introduces the concept of a digital twin into the steel structure construction process, analyzes the connotation and characteristics of the digital twin model, and proposes the digital twin model architecture for steel structure construction processes. Furthermore, a method for establishing a digital twin model for steel structure construction processes is presented, which includes three stages: the acquisition and transmission of physical space data, the construction of a digital twin virtual model, and information exchange in the digital twin model. Based on these concepts, this paper describes a digital twin system architecture for the steel structure construction process from the perspective of data flow in the digital twin model. Finally, with the application of information technology in the steel structure construction process of the university park library project in Xiongan New Area and the reconstruction and expansion project of the Nanchong Gaoping airport, the digital twin model and its establishment method methods are analyzed practically and demonstrated effectively in this study. Steel structures are increasingly taking place in daily life as an indicator of the level of development. However, it is inevitable to encounter some problems during the manufacturing and assembly of steel structures. Such problems can be large or small. One of the leading problems of this kind; These are the errors that occur with the placement of the beams in the beam system formed from standard profiles. This situation does not comply with the assumptions foreseen in the project design process of the building. In such a case, the structure will not be able to carry the calculated loads and the structure will be in a situation where serious damage can occur. Within this scope; In this study, negative situations that may occur due to incorrect placement of the standard profiles used as beams in buildings whose carrier system is made of steel at 5°, 10°, 15° and 20° angles from their axes during the assembly process were examined. The load capacity foreseen in the project for the eccentricity beam caused by the skewness in the placement of the steel beams has decreased and in parallel to this situation, the bearing capacity of the element and/or the structure has weakened considerably. The load-displacement graphs were obtained as a result of the experiments with the steel profiles prepared with a crooked axis, and the losses in the carrying capacity; By comparing with the perfect (perfect) profiles, the bearing capacity losses caused by such manufacturing or assembly errors in the structure are examined. With the examination of the experimental results obtained, the negative effects of such as assembly and /or manufacturing error, and the level of these effects will be brought to the literature. Accurate measurement of the stress in steel structures is crucial for structural health monitoring. To achieve this goal, a novel technique, the laser ultrasonic technique, was used in absolute stress measurement in this study. The feasibility of this technique has been verified through theoretical analysis and finite element (FE) analysis. A stress measurement experiment in steel specimens was conducted and the relationship between ultrasonic relative wave velocity and stress was explored. The results revealed that there is a similar linear correlation between the ultrasonic relative wave velocity and absolute stress. The stress can be obtained based on ultrasonic relative wave velocity. According to the stress measurement results, it was found that the absolute error between the measured stress and theoretical stress was largest when the stress level was low, and that the measured error of stress gradually decreased with increases in the applied stress. The relative error between the measured stress and the theoretical stress was within 10% when the stress was higher than 100 MPa. This further verifies the reliability of the laser ultrasonic technique under high-stress conditions. Additionally, the impact of temperature and surface roughness on stress measurement was analyzed. The stress error in stress measurement increased similarly linearly with the increase in temperature and increased non-linearly with the increase in roughness. A novel epoxy-based self-intumescent fire protective coating has been developed by formulating a combination of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and copper (I) oxide (Cu2O) in epoxy resin (EP). The effects of various combinations on fire protective performance for steel plate were evaluated using a lab-scale simulated big panel test. Formulations with different mass ratios of APP to Cu2O ranging from 10:0 to 2:8 exhibit good fire protective performance for steel plate. While the final equilibrium backside temperature of un-protected steel plate reached 529 °C, it did not exceed 282 °C for the protected plates with 2 mm thick coatings, which is much lower than the failure temperature of steel (ca. 500 °C). The lowest final equilibrium backside temperature of coated steel plate was 234.5 °C for the optimal formulation (EP/24APP/16Cu2O) with an APP/Cu2O mass ratio of 6/4 in EP. Interestingly, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value (46.8%) for the optimized formulation (EP/24APP/16Cu2O) is not the highest, being lower than those of (EP/40APP/0Cu2O) and (EP/32APP/8Cu2O) formulations. The fire behavior of the optimized formulation (EP/24APP/16Cu2O) and control EP was compared using the cone calorimetry. The main fire hazard parameters such as peak heat release rate, total smoke production and peak CO production for EP/24APP/16Cu2O are reduced by 80.0%, 59.5% and 75.0%, respectively, relative to those for EP. This indicates that the EP/24APP/16Cu2O formulation provides significantly better fire safety than does control EP alone. A possible mode of action for the combination of APP/Cu2O in terms of the expansion ratio and heat insulation degree of the formed intumescent char layer may be proposed. In order to investigate the deformation behavior, mechanical characteristics of connections, and failure mode of translational precast concrete wall-panels under earthquake loading, a full-scale two-story steel frame model was designed. This test model consisted of 12 precast concrete wall-panels connected with fixed connections at the bottom end and translational-type connections at the top end. This model passed the shaking table testing, and the results demonstrate that the translational-type precast concrete exterior wall panel can ensure the sufficient relative displacement between the wall panel and the main structure under large earthquake loads. It has sufficient capacity to adapt the deformation between the main structure and the wall panels. During the test, localized cracking was observed on the wall panel, while all connections remained in elastic state. The connections between precast concrete exterior wall panels exhibited good performance, that indicates it is an effective tool to protect frame building hangings with exterior wall panels under strong earthquake events. With the development of society and urbanization, higher requirements have been put forward for the safety and seismic resistance of building structures. The fatigue strength and seismic performance of welded joints have received close attention, especially as a crucial part of building steel structure. This study used the finite element simulation method to analyze the stress-strain of welded joints in building steel structures, and explore the influence of residual stress on their seismic performance. A stress-strain calculation model for welded joints in building steel structures was studied and constructed, and the accuracy of the model was verified through numerical calculation methods. The results showed that the residual stress peaks of the horizontal and vertical directions of the V-groove welded joint structure were 475 MPa and 325 MPa, respectively, and the longitudinal residual stress peaks were 525 MPa and 425 MPa, respectively. The seismic performance of four different steel structural plates was Q 960 > Q 690 > Q 460 > Q 345 . In summary, the numerical simulation of residual stress in the seismic performance of welded joints in building steel structures, when based on the finite element method, makes a contribution of clear value to the field of seismic performance of welded joints in building steel structures. In this study, nonlinear dynamic response of 4, 7, and 10-story moment frame steel structures is investigated under seismic ground motions. An incrementally increasing intensity is accounted for to evaluate the collapse fragility curves of the same buildings under different values of torsional eccentricity. The site soil of the buildings is assumed to be composed once of a firm and then of a soft soil. As a distinction of this study, the realistic maximum possible value of eccentricity ratio for moment frames, including both stiffness and mass eccentricities, is shown to be 10-15% that is much less than peak values of the past studies. Because of the three-dimensional aspect of the study, the eccentricity is selected to be bi-directional and the horizontal components of the earthquake motion are applied concurrently. It is exhibited that while torsional eccentricity lowers the median collapse probability of the studied buildings, it does not have a sensible effect up to the eccentricity ratios not larger than 10%. Besides, the taller structures on the firm soil are affected more strongly from torsional eccentricity, as the median collapse acceleration decreases up to 46% for the 10-story building suffering from 15% eccentricity ratio on the firm soil.
