The research on immigrant integration is a dynamic interdisciplinary domain with rich and diverse literature. Considering the numerous studies in this domain, it is valuable to provide a comprehensive mapping to understand the research landscape resource and facilitate collaborations. This article combines Structural Topic modeling with bibliometric analysis to identify key research topics on immigrant integration. Applying these methods to 70890 abstracts published between 1960 and 2022, we identified 30 key research topics. We also tracked their prevalence over time, correlations and distributions within institutions and countries, funding effects, and countries' collaborations. The results indicate that the most discussed topics are integration theory, economic integration, education, residential segregation, integration policy, language, religious diversity, cultural participation, identity & belonging, racism & discrimination, political participation, health & welfare, research methods, demographic issues, gender & violence. Moreover, some of these topics were highly prominent in earlier periods and nearly non-existent in later years, while others emerged only recently. Specific topics maintained consistent significance over time. Analyses of correlations and trends reveal clusters of topics and diverse distributions across countries and research institutions. The implications of these results can benefit researchers, helping them better understand the current state of research and design future research projects. Analyzing education does not only involve years of schooling, quality matters! This paper aims at providing better data on schooling with a focus on learning outcomes. It provides the largest dataset on learning outcomes, years of schooling and learning-adjusted year of schooling (LAYS) with comparable data between 1970 and 2020. The quantity dimension is measured by years of schooling and uses the latest data from Barro and Lee (J Dev Econ 104:184–198, 2013), while the quality dimension is taken from linking standardized, psychometrically robust international achievement tests and hybrid tests. The data are available for more than 120 countries between 1970 and 2020. Several findings can be highlighted. A global convergence on both learning outcomes and enrollment has occurred since 1970, but a breakdown can be found after 1990. A very low number of countries perform better after 2000 regarding the quality of schooling, while most countries have a stable level of learning outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Multi-Attributive Border Approximation Area Comparison (MABAC) method using the Biblioshiny application of the bibliometrix package, R program and VOSviewer tools to provide a holistic view of the research landscape by identifying its evolution, major contributors and most influential research areas. The study, analyzing 264 articles from the Scopus database (January 2015 to September 2023), reveals China as the leading contributor, with India spearheading international collaboration. The most impactful publication, "The selection of transport and handling resources in logistics centres using MABAC," by Pamučar and Ćirović [2], boasts 537 citations. Notably, the "University of Defence in Belgrade" is a prominent institution in this domain. "Pamučar D" emerges as the most cited author. Key terms include "MABAC," "MABAC method," and "MCDM," commonly associated with MABAC method. The top three cited journals are "Expert Systems with Applications," "Decision Making: Applications in Management And Engineering," and "Symmetry." This article crosses two fields: financial cliometrics and networks graphs. The results illustrate that the field of application of operations research methods on graphs is very broad. We assess how the web of global stock markets linkages has changed over 1960–2018. We compute minimum spanning trees and hierarchical trees using six institutional sub-periods, and document the long term evolution of network patterns using different network metrics. Then we analyse the time dynamics of linkages, focusing on the most connected nodes. Finally, we analyse the effect of the network structure on system resilience. We highlight two main contributions of network graphs and operations research methods to financial cliometrics. First, we highlight a long term evolution of stock market network patterns from a monostar to a multistar network. This structural shift is associated to a greater connectivity of the hubs, leading to less resilience of the system. The sharp decrease in local path lengths strengthens this effect. Our second major outcome is that network graphs provide a methodological corpus to explain the role of path dependence in financial history. The purpose of this paper is to commemorate the late scholar Loet Leydesdorff for his great academic contribution on the basis of data from Web of Science. In the span of more than 40 years, he had 526 publications, with the years 2004-2021 being the most productive (394 publications). His international collaborations spread widely across 36 countries, with Germany, the USA, the UK, China, Russia, and South Korea being the most significant. His most frequent collaboration partners included Lutz Bornmann (Germany), Staša Milojević (USA), Caroline Wagner (USA), Henry Etzkowitz (USA), Jonathan Adams (UK), Ronald Rousseau (Belgium), and Ping Zhou (China). With a broad and deep knowledge background, Leydesdorff's research extended across multiple disciplines and fields, but he was most active in library and information science and computer science. He made profound contributions to the study of bibliometrics, innovation systems (the Triple Helix model), and communications. Leydesdorff had a remarkable and extensive citation impact, with citations in 221 WoS subject categories from 120 countries. The study examines the change in pattern of impact factor and SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR) of the journal under study from 2008 to 2021 besides examining the pattern of growth of the number of papers. The study identified the most prolific actors (authors, institutions, and countries), besides examining their citation impact in terms of citation per paper & relative citation impact. The pattern of citation and highly cited papers have also been identified. Based on the analysis of data it is observed that the number of articles published was highest and almost equal in the years 2013, 2016, and 2017. Using the methodology of the complete count of records, it is observed that 56 countries contributed 2,939 articles. China followed by the USA published the highest number of papers. The value of CPP was highest for Universidad de Granada (Spain) and Leiden University (the Netherlands). Among the authors, Nees Jan van Eck and Ludo Waltman of the Leiden University had the highest CPP. Only a minuscule number of published articles remained uncited. Article authored by Aria, M. and Cuccurullo, C. published in issue 11(4), 2017, 959-975 of the journal received the highest number of citations. Purpose: This study aims to compare recent topics on value-added tax (VAT) in the European Union (EU) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), understand the differences in VAT discourses between the two regions and explore the connection between research agendas, institutional legacies and semantic output in the field of VAT in each territory. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliometric study was conducted using R programming. The data were gathered from the Scopus database, which contains 99 English-language publications with publication dates ranging from 1996 to 2022 (87 of which are from the EU and 12 from the GCC). Information about publications, journals, authors and citations is gathered, validated, cross-referenced and analyzed using bibliometric metrics. Findings: The results highlight two ideal research contexts for studying VAT: the EU countries approach VAT research with a centralized, pluralistic and quantitative focus, while the GCC countries adopt a centralized, qualitative and practically oriented approach, highlighting distinct research goals, collaboration styles and institutional legacies. The authors extend their result findings to broader discussions on competing knowledge systems in VAT, the significance of the state and the level of autonomy within tax governance after identifying the most popular issues among scholars working in GCC and EU countries. Research limitations/implications: Although the focus of this analysis is restricted to the GCC and EU, it includes theoretical recommendations for broadening its application to other nations. Researchers from the GCC and the EU may benefit from this study by gaining more about VAT and being encouraged to share their research with young researchers. The study's findings are relevant and important for comprehending the comparative state of research on VAT in GCC and EU countries, tax fields, publications and institutions. In recent years, the field of second language acquisition has witnessed a noticeable surge in the significance of language transfer research. This current study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of language transfer research within the time frame spanning 2012 to 2023, focusing on the primary research trends and hotspots. A dataset comprising 1259 documents, sourced from the Web of Science (WOS) was collected and subjected to meticulous analysis through the combined utilisation of the Statistical Analysis Toolkit for Informetrics 4.0 (SATI) software and VOSviewer. The findings shed light on the developmental trajectory, current status, and future trends in language transfer research, offering valuable insights for further research directions and pertinent recommendations. To analyze the research impact of the researcher, different bibliographic databases like Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, etc. are accessed for evaluating the trend of publications and citations from time to time. However, the choice of the bibliographic database is always debatable. Hence, to provide an optimal solution for a given problem, this study proposes a distributed ledger-based consensus mechanism for the presentation of authors' informetrics. The proposed consensus mechanism named "proof of bibliometric indicators" is a consent-based system that is introduced as a base to form trustworthiness among authors and various stakeholders, thus exhibiting a development of the decentralized application. This article analyses the evolution of the most-used terms referring to the (broad) field of bibliometrics. It compares the number of publications on bibliometrics, scientometrics, informetrics, web(o)metrics, altmetrics, and the science of science, in three international databases, the Web of Science, Scopus, and Dimensions. We found that the relative number of documents using one of the metrics-related terms is showing a more than exponential increase. This illustrates the increasing importance of metrics in the world of science. While most terms separately show a clear increase in use, web(o)metrics and perhaps, informetrics, seem to have reached their top. Bibliometrics and scientometrics are the most-used terms, with, nowadays, the term bibliometrics being used about five times more than the term scientometrics. This article argues that historians have failed to grasp the profound opportunities afforded by computational analysis. Despite the abundance of machine‐readable data liberated by digitisation—alongside tools and exemplar studies—there has been no widespread embrace of text mining or revival of cliometrics. This ambivalence has arisen mainly through apathy and side‐lining of computational analysis to a specialist methodological niche. The absence of justification is damaging to the intellectual vitality of the discipline and its capacity to face the dawning age of data science. The article calls for an urgent debate about the historian and the computer. More than anything else, this requires sceptics to come forward to meet the advocates to discuss how we face the future. British political history has a proud tradition of methodological innovation and there is no better subfield in which to begin a debate that has fundamental implications for the whole discipline. Purpose: This paper focuses on the differences in domain intellectual structure discovery between author bibliographic coupling analysis (ABCA) and author co-citation analysis (ACA) considering all authors. The purpose of this study is to examine whether and in what ways these two all-author network approaches yield different results. Design/methodology/approach: The sample was collected from the database of Web of Science, including all articles published in Scientometrics and Journal of Informetrics from 2011 to 2020. First, 100 representative authors were selected from each set, and ABCA matrices and ACA matrices were constructed. Second, factor analysis was carried out on the matrices, to detect the intellectual structure of scientometrics and informetrics. Findings: The intellectual structures identified by ABCA and ACA are similar overall, but the results differ somewhat when it comes to specific structures. The ABCA is more sensitive to some highly collaborative research teams and presents a clearer picture of current intellectual structures and trends while ACA seems to have some advantages in representing the more traditional and proven research topics in the field. The combined use of ABCA and ACA allows for a more comprehensive and specific intellectual structure of research fields. Originality/value: This paper compares the performance of ABCA and ACA detecting the intellectual structure of the domain from the perspective of all authors, revealing the intellectual structure of scientometrics and informetrics comprehensively. An autoencoder for video anomaly detection task is a type of algorithm with the primary purpose of learning an "informative" representation of the normal data that can be used for identifying the abnormal data by learning to reconstruct a set of input observations. Based on the encoding–decoding structure, we explore a novel dual ForkNet architecture that can dissociate and process the spatio-temporal representation. It is well-known in the information theory community that most autoencoders coding processes are inevitably accompanied by a certain loss of information. In this dual ForkNet, we focus on mitigating the information loss problem and propose a novel architectural recalibration approach, which we term the "Informetrics Recalibration" (IR). It can adaptively recalibrate latent feature representation by explicitly modeling the similarity between the corresponding feature maps of encoder and decoder, and retain more useful semantic information to generate greater differentiation between normal and abnormal events. Additionally, because the structure of the autoencoder itself determines the difficulty to obtain deep semantic information, we introduce a Secondary Encoder (SE) in each ForkNet, so as to recalibrate target features responses of latent feature representation. Our model is easy to be trained and robust to be applied, because it basically consists of some ResNet blocks without using complicated modules. Extensive experiments on the five publicly available benchmarks show that our model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art architectures, demonstrating our framework's effectiveness. By the time of the publication of Robert W. Fogel and Stanley L. Engerman's Time on the Cross in 1974, quantitative history had become an important, yet controversial, trend around the globe. Time on the Cross , an economic history of slavery in the American South, prompted a fierce debate among historians. The issue at stake was the use of quantitative methods and the role of computers in what was called "cliometrics." Fogel and Engerman claimed that their monograph replaced the uncertainties of traditional, narrative history with hard scientific facts, verified by computers and mathematical techniques. But critics found outright errors in their use and interpretation of the quantitative data and pointed to the danger of dehumanizing the study of history if it is left to a machine. This essay retraces the debate and critically analyzes the promises of exactitude formulated in cliometric discourse in order to ask what lessons can be learned for the challenges digital humanities faces today. This article makes the argument for renewed cliometrics that could serve history. Over the past century, history and economics have grown relying on each other, but an imbalance has appeared, as the space between history and economics has been occupied by the latter. Consequently, historians have tended to shun these fields of inquiry. I begin my analysis with a discussion of the complex set of separate domains that lie between history and economics, and I determine certain salient features that define them—in particular, the search for nomothetic explanations. I examine the reception of economic method by historians and point out that it has suffered both from this nomothetic angle and from the implicit presumption that economics is only applicable to the economy. Stressing the distinction between understanding and explaining in the philosophy of history, I show that, for historians, explaining should remain in the realm of history. I then propose that economics be considered a methodological auxiliary for understanding, a form of new cliometrics, which does not attempt to offer explanations. The aim of this short essay is to revisit and reposition Freeman's broadening research and methodological contribution. In the first section, I point out that: (a) in conceptual terms, Freeman has worked in order to move away from the narrow R&D focus of the endogenous growth theory to develop the systemic understanding of the social process of evolution, particularly focusing on STI policies and (b) in methodological terms, Freeman has moved away from mere econometric and cliometrics approaches to reasoned-history, looking to reconciler the separation between history and economic theory under a heterodox framework. In the second section, I briefly contextualize Freeman's interaction with the South American scholars on science, technology and society in order to frame how Freeman's conceptual and methodological approaches helped me during my PhD Thesis research process. This informetrics study was conducted to find out the distribution of articles and authors that published in African Journal of Library, Archives and Information Studies [AJLAIS]) from 2009 to 2018; considering the year-wise growth of research articles; authorship pattern and collaboration ratio; subject and geographical distributions of authors; and authors' productivity level. A descriptive informetrics research design was adopted. Quota sampling technique was used to select all the articles published within the ten-year period. Data collected through a self-designed checklist was analyzed using frequency count and percentage. The findings revealed that 141 articles, contributed by 266 authors were published by AJLAIS during the period. An annual average growth of 1.20% was recorded. Overall year-wise authorship pattern revealed that majority of articles (62.41%) published in AJLAIS were multiple authored. Also, articles on Informetrics and ICT dominated the journal. Some subject areas not covered were identified such as: indexing and serial collections management. Average collaborative index across the 10-year period for the journal was 0.62. South Africa and Nigeria were the two major prolific contributors to AJLAIS, just as evidence-based research papers of survey type (65.25%) were the most common to the journal. There should be increased numbers of articles in each edition over the coming years, and awareness should be created by the publishers to familiarize the researchers with the publishing requirements of the journal. Also, LIS researchers should concentrate more on areas usually left untouched by previous studies. The study is original as no other similar study was found on publication pattern of articles in AJLAIS covering a ten year period of 2009-2018. The findings of the study will also serve as a feedback mechanism for the Publisher of the Journal and LIS researchers on how to improve the journal and LIS research in general. This paper reports an assessment of horizontal ownership concentration, contingent on congeneric acquisitions, on firm-level strategic behaviour in the telecommunications sector. Consequent to deals, the change in the concentration index was over one and half times the value of the original ratio. An asset control Herfindahl Hirschman Index (AHHI) shot up from 1056 to 2747. Firms' strategic behaviour examined has been debt level in capital structure. Companies associated with a high value of the structural capital variable have had significantly lower debt, around 24% less than average, while companies associated with a low value of the structural capital variable have had significantly higher debt, of around 11% more than average. Companies identified as owned by horizontal ownership controllers with high market power have had significantly lower debt, of around 19% less than average. Research excellence (RE) is a relatively new concept which has been gaining traction among scholars, government agencies and funders. No universally accepted definition of RE exists. In this paper, however, it is perceived as the sustained conceptualisation, design, execution and dissemination of optimal volumes of high quality research products which contribute effectively to societal wellbeing. The concept of research excellence is just emerging in Kenya. Indeed, the literature reviewed in this paper reveals that the perception, measurement, and reporting of research excellence in Kenya is largely unknown. Therefore, this paper seeks to unravel these issues as a means of promoting research excellence in the country. The study anchoring this paper assessed the top papers produced in Kenya to gauge the country's RE. Data were obtained from Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection databases, the Essential Science Indicators and the Journal Citation Reports. Specifically, the paper explores the trend and volume of the highly cited and hot papers as the percentage share of Kenya's total research publications; identifies the journals and assessed the quality of the journals in which Kenya's highly cited and hot papers are published; examines the subject content and research field yielding the most highly cited and hot research papers in Kenya; determines the extent of research collaboration in the highly cited and hot papers; and benchmarks Kenya's performance in the top papers against the rest of Africa. The study reveals an increase in the publication of the top papers, largely in the form of journal articles; a heavy co-authorship of the papers; a favourable performance by Kenya when compared to the rest of the African countries; and the publication of the country's top papers in prestigious international journals. Kenya's RE is partly dependent on the dissemination of its research in high impact factor journals. In addition, the country's RE is heavily dependent on the performance of science fields such as internal medicine, environmental sciences and ecology, and public health and agriculture. Dividing papers based on their numbers of citations into several groups constitutes one of the most common research practices in bibliometrics and beyond. However, existing dividing methods are both arbitrary and subject to bias. This article proposes a novel approach to partition highly, medium and lowly cited publications based on their citation distribution. We utilise the whole Web of Science (WoS) dataset to demonstrate how to apply this approach to scholarly datasets and examine the robustness of our algorithm in each of the six disciplines under the WoS dataset. Bibliometric and visualization tools are effective for uncovering information contained in vast amounts of literature data. We retrieved publications from the Web of Science (2008–2020) and used the Statistical Analysis Toolkit for Informetrics (SATI) and CiteSpace to conduct a bibliometric analysis of emergy studies, review the focus of the studies, summarize current research, and identify academic trends. The SATI-based charts provided an overall description of yearly published articles, literature sources, high-frequency keywords, authors, institutions, and highly cited papers. CiteSpace was applied to determine the frontiers and hotspots of emergy theory. A dual-map analysis was used to reveal the connection between multiple disciplines. Keyword clustering analysis was performed to evaluate research hotspots. Moreover, burst analysis and timeline maps presented a holistic picture of cutting-edge issues and the evolutionary trajectory of emergy studies in recent years. An alluvial flow map analysis of the landmark literature depicted the transmission of knowledge in the emergy field. In addition, this article also evaluated the current status of collaborative research in emergy-related fields. When a graphical representation of the cumulative percentage of total citations to articles, ordered from most cited to least cited, is plotted against the cumulative percentage of articles, we obtain a Leimkuhler curve. In this study, we noticed that standard Leimkuhler functions may not be sufficient to provide accurate fits to various empirical informetrics data. Therefore, we introduce a new approach to Leimkuhler curves by fitting a known probability density function to the initial Leimkuhler curve, taking into account the presence of a heterogeneity factor. As a significant contribution to the existing literature, we introduce a pair of mixture distributions (called PG and PIG) to bibliometrics. In addition, we present closed-form expressions for Leimkuhler curves. Some measures of citation concentration are examined empirically for the basic models (based on the Power and Pareto distributions) and the mixed models derived from these. An application to two sources of informetric data was conducted to see how the mixing models outperform the standard basic models. The paper presents a bibliometric study of the "Journal of Informetrics". It publishes four issues per year. The data were downloaded from the journal's website. The bibliometric analysis has been conducted with 404 contributions published in the journal selected five years for a period between 2016-2020. The study focuses on necessary bibliometric analysis forms, authorship pattern analysis, year wise distribution of articles, issue wise distribution of articles, single and multi authored papers. Findings of the studies pointed towards the advantages and weakness of the journal which are helpful for its further development. The study revealed that that the maximum number of articles i.e 85 (21.04%) were published in the year 2018. ADINET celebrates Librarian's Day every year to commemorate the birthday of Dr. S R Ranganathan by organizing seminar in Gujarat, a leading state of India. This bibliometric study is intended to bring out the results of seminar proceedings published by ADINET from 2005 to 2019. This study investigated 176 papers published in Proceedings of ADINET seminar during 15 years. Study revealed that most of authors prefers to write for this seminar as a single author and out of 176 research papers 119 papers are written as single author whereas 36 papers found with double author and 21 papers published with three authors. It is also found from the study that Rashmi Kumbar and Shailesh Yagnik both are prominent authors whereas Gujarat is leading state published a maximum number of papers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Journals, and the articles they publish, make a significant contribution to the field of knowledge in the humanities. Journals in the humanities, like the sciences, are ranked through qualitative evaluations conducted by scholarly communities, national research assessments and expert panels, and they are also ranked through quantitative evaluations generated by bibliometrics (metrics) which often involves a complex mix of databases and algorithms. The use of metrics to evaluate journals, and more broadly to appraise scholars, in the humanities is contested terrain. The application of metrics as they apply to journals in sport history, sport humanities, and mainstream history mark disputed territory in these domains and require critical assessment. Using the Scopus database and three related metrics – SCImago Journal Rank, Source-Normalized Impact per Paper, and CiteScore – over a five-year period (2014–2018), Sport in History emerges as the premier sport history journal in two of these metrics. More significantly for sport history is that the field has three journals, Sport in History, The International Journal of the History of Sport, and the Journal of Sport History, that regularly rank in Quartile 1 (top twenty-five percent) journals in the discipline of history. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore informetrics researchers' use of social media for academic activities, their attitudes to the applicability of altmetrics in research evaluation, the factors influencing their attitudes, and the main opportunities and weaknesses of using altmetrics. Design/methodology/approach: A survey using a questionnaire was conducted with researchers who participated in the 16th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics ISSI 2017 and a sample of 125 respondents was obtained. Findings: Progressively more researchers are using social media for different types of academic activities. The study found that many factors affect informetrics researchers' attitudes in different application scenarios with respect to research evaluation. Researchers who have studied altmetrics and who began using social media platforms recently or frequently have more positive attitudes. Academic users and social users have statistically significantly disparate attitudes toward altmetrics in different disciplines and different application scenarios. Research limitations/implications: Our study only focused on 125 informetrics researchers, who participated in ISSI 2017. We mainly used the questionnaire method, but did not conduct in-depth interviews with the researcher's views. Originality/value: Informetrics researchers are participants in social media and major researchers of altmetrics. Previous research has examined their use of social media, and this study combines this use of social media with their attitudes to altmetrics to explore the value of altmetrics from a particular perspective. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the persistence and decay of uniform resource locator (URLs) associated with Web references. The decaying of Web references is analyzed in relation to their age, domain, technical errors and error codes. Design/methodology/approach: The Web references of the Journal of Informetrics were selected for analysis and interpretation to fulfill the set objectives. The references of all the scholarly articles, excluding editorials and reviews published in the Journal of Informetrics for five years from 2007 to 2011 were recorded in a text file. Later, the URLs were extracted from the articles to verify their accessibility in terms of persistence and decay. The collected data were then transferred into an excel file and tabulated for further analysis and interpretation using simple statistical techniques. Findings: The results showed that of the total 7,409 citations retrieved from 221 articles, 358 citations (4.8%) were Web citations. These Web citations were assessed to find their persistence and decay. The results reveal that 115 (32.12%) Web references were missing or dead. The most common error associated with the missing Web citations was Error 404 Page not found, contributing 60% of the total missing citations, followed by 400 Bad Request Error (35.65%). The domain analysis of missing Web citations depicts that most of the missing URLs were associated with the.gov domain (40%), followed by.edu (29.58%) and.com (26.04%). Research limitations/implications: The Web references of a single journal, namely, Journal of Informetrics, were analyzed for five years, and hence, the generalization of findings needs to be cautioned. Practical implications: The URL decay is becoming a major problem in the preservation and citation of the Web resources, and collaborative efforts are needed to reduce the decaying of URLs. Originality/value: A good number of studies have been conducted to analyze the persistence and decay of Web references, as it is the hot topic of research across disciplines, and this study is a step further in the same direction. Computing and the use of digital sources and resources is an everyday and essential practice in current academic scholarship. The present article gives a concise overview of approaches and methods within digital historical scholarship, focusing on the question 'How have the digital humanities evolved and what has that evolution brought to historical scholarship?' We begin by discussing techniques in which data are generated and machine searchable, such as OCR/HTR, born‐digital archives, computer vision, scholarly editions and linked data. In the second section, we provide examples of how data is made more accessible through quantitative text and network analysis. The third section considers the need for hermeneutics and data‐awareness in digital historical scholarship. The technologies described in this article have had varying degrees of effect on historical scholarship, usually in indirect ways. With this article we aim to take stock of the digital approaches and methods used in historical scholarship in order to provide starting points for scholars seeking to understand the digital turn in the field and how and when to implement such approaches in their work. Traditional knowledge, especially with health-related issues, has become crucial across the world. This can be attributed to the assistance which humans and animals now require. In Africa, traditional healers have strived to offer health remedies through the support of plants with the aim of curing different ailments believed to have been either inherited or caused by attack from spiritual forces. This, to an ordinary person, is difficult to understand; hence the assistance and support of traditional healers play an important role in the treatment of health issues for many people, irrespective of the context. This is commonly referred to as "African traditional medicine" (ATM), being a holistic healthcare system that has attracted numerous researchers. Nonetheless, there is still a paucity of updated, comprehensive collation of research conducted across South Africa. The study that directed this article aimed to assess the publication trends on ATM between 1998 and 2018. The study used interpretive document analysis, where data were harvested from the Web of Science Citation Index Expanded. Findings indicate that 469 documents were retrieved from the database, and the majority of published papers were research articles. A downward trend in terms of the number of publications in 2018 was of concern, considering efforts that were made to encourage research in traditional medicine in South Africa. Results indicate that social sciences contributed the highest number of research publications, while the universities of KwaZulu-Natal, Witwatersrand and Pretoria were the top three contributors with the largest number of publications. Evaluative informetrics is defined as the study of evaluative aspects of science and scholarship using informetric data and methodologies, such as citation analysis and altmetrics. Following the main lines of an article by the Dutch philosopher O.D. Duintjer, nine interfaces are distinguished between quantitative science studies, especially evaluative informetrics, and the domain of values, including scientific, sociohistorical, political, ethical and personal norms and objectives. Special attention is given to the "principle of value neutrality" at the meta-level of methodological rules guiding scientific inquiry and to the crucial, independent role of evaluative frameworks in research evaluation. The implications of the various relationships between science and values for research practices in evaluative informetrics and for its application in research assessment are considered. The paper reviews the Italian experience in the evaluation of research in the 2000-2020 period. The initial exercise (VTR 2000-2003) did not involve all researchers and had no impact on funding. After a long political and cultural debate there was a decision to create an independent Agency in charge of a periodic research assessment, involving all researchers, and having impact on performance-based funding. The legislation was approved in 2006 and the Agency was created in 2010-2011. In parallel, a major reform of academic promotion was approved in 2010. The Agency (ANVUR) launched three exercises, two of which have been completed and published (Valutazione della Qualità della Ricerca, or Assessment of Research Quality, VQR 2004-2010 and VQR 2011-2014). It also developed a complete array of quantitative indicators to be used as a threshold for candidates to the academic promotion (Habilitation). The paper offers detailed evidence of the evaluative framework, the main methodological and practical problems and the changes and adaptations introduced over time. The relation between information science and library science has been debated for decades, and even attempts at utilizing methods generally acknowledged as robust for the purpose of mapping research fields have yielded results with large variations. Therefore, a set of citation analyses was performed, comparing the results of analyses on information science and library science separately but also as a joint library and information science (LIS) field. Although there are large differences, not the least in the author-level analyses, the patterns in the citation data support the concept of a joint LIS field with information science and library science being the two main subfields; many of the variations in the analyses are caused by the interdisciplinary nature of LIS, reflected in, for example, variations in citation practices in the different subfields. Aims: To provide a snapshot of the scientific literature on orofacial pain. Methods: The authors identified 975 papers related to orofacial pain in the Current Contents Life Sciences and Clinical Medicine collections of the Thomson Scientific database that were published during 2004 and 2005 and analyzed them using bibliometric indicators. Results: Among the 54 countries involved, the United States ranks first by number of papers (293), followed by Japan (107), and the United Kingdom (90). The high volume of research activity in some Northern European countries is highlighted, along with that of the European Union (384 papers). The scientific literature on orofacial pain was published in 247 journals; 13 of the top 15 most prolific journals for articles on orofacial pain were found in the Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine subdiscipline of Current Contents/Clinical Medicine, and the Journal of Orofacial Pain was the highest ranked for such articles. • Hirsch-type equations and bundles are introduced. • In this way common properties of well-known bundles are proved in one swoop. • Criteria for these bundles to be impact bundles are proved. We define Hirsch-type equations and bundles being common generalizations of the defining equations of e.g. Hirsch-bundles, g-bundles, and Kosmulski-bundles. In this way, common properties of all these bundles can be proved. The main result proves basic inequalities for these bundles. The majority of the reported research and development efforts on automated techniques and tools for conceptual database design have focused on design from first principles. Very few have used case-based reasoning, where cases of conceptual design are stored, indexed, and used for future designs. Furthermore, there is a general lack of reported research on validating and verifying such systems. In this paper, we describe our approach in using case-based reasoning for conceptual data-base design. To test and demonstrate the feasibility of our approach and its theoretical foundation, two prototype systems were constructed. In the absence of existing matching conceptual design constructs, the first system uses first principles of conceptual design to assist a human designer in arriving at a design for a new problem. In contrast, the second system uses constructs from previously stored design cases. The two are tightly integrated. A novel approach in structuring the case base was developed. Unique aspects of the case-base architecture and its learning mechanism are described. In order to measure user preference, an experiment was designed and conducted. Findings indicate that reuse of schemata not only is preferred by the users over the design from the first principles, but also results in fewer errors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
