Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for humans and animals, and an excess of or deficiency in Se is harmful to health. Research on the selenium enrichment zone began in the late 1970s in Shuang'an, Ziyang, southern Shaanxi Province. Naore village is only one selenosis area in Shuang'an, Ziyang, China. Different scholars have conducted systematic studies on the occurrence of selenium, its organic geochemistry and biomarkers, and its content and enrichment patterns in this area. This study applied the TIMA (TESCAN integrated mineral analyzer) for the first time to conduct detailed mineralogical work. The minerals included quartz, carbonate minerals (calcite and dolomite), feldspar (plagioclase, albite, and orthoclase), biotite and muscovite, clay minerals (chlorite and kaolinite), hematite, pyrite, and accessory minerals (almandine, olivine, zircon, and apatite) in Naore village, Ziyang, Shaanxi Province. The ATi index (100 × apatite/(apatite + tourmaline)) is used to determine the source of heavy minerals and the degree of heavy minerals' weathering. The content POS (100 × (pyroxene + olivine + spinel)/transparent heavy mineral) of olivine, pyroxene, and spinel in heavy minerals can reflect the contribution of basic and ultrabasic rocks in the source area. The ATi and POS indexes for the heavy minerals in the research area were 91.83~99.96 and 0.01~18.75, respectively, reflecting the abundance of volcanic rock material in their source. In addition, the migration, transformation, bioavailability, and toxicity of selenium in the environment are closely related to its species. The species of selenium in various selenium-rich areas (Naore, Wamiao, and Guanquan) mainly include unusable residues and organic forms, followed by humic-acid-bound selenium. The proportions of water-soluble, exchangeable, and carbonate-bound selenium are relatively small, and the proportion of Fe-Mn oxide-bound selenium is the lowest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Isoniazid-resistant, rifampicin-susceptible tuberculosis (Hr-TB) is the most frequent drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in the world, and unfavorable outcomes of Hr-TB are more common compared to drug-susceptible TB. Considering there is no optimal regimen accepted worldwide, we undertook a retrospective cohort study in eastern China to estimate incidence trends and risk factors associated with unfavorable outcomes of Hr-TB. Methods: Between January 2012 and December 2022, all Hr-TB patients' information was extracted from the Tuberculosis Information Management System (TIMS), which is a national electronic information platform, to record TB patients' clinical information in this study. The incidence of Hr-TB was determined by the mid-year population according to census data published by the government. We categorized treatment regimens depending on fluoroquinolone (FQ) use, and potential risk factors were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. Results: A total of 3116 Hr-TB patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were enrolled in this study. The average annual rate of Hr-TB in the 11 years under investigation was 0.34 per 100,000 and increased to 0.53 per 100,000 until 2019. In total, six different treatment regimens were utilized in the study sites, and less than 1% of regimens adopted FQ. There was no difference in the unfavorable outcomes between the FQ-included and FQ-excluded groups (p = 0.22). The average treatment duration was 7.06 months, and the longest treatment was 26 months. Approximately 20% (637/3116) of Hr-TB patients had unfavorable outcomes, and 60.13% (383/637) of them proceeded to multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Treatment duration and a positive smear at the end of the 5th month were significantly associated with unfavorable outcomes (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The unfavorable treatment outcomes of Hr-TB are still high in eastern China, and the efficacy of FQ-containing regimens needs to be validated for Hr-TB treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new mineral species, yuchuanite-(Y), ideally Y2(CO3)3·H2O, has been discovered and characterized in the Yushui Cu deposit in South China. The mineral occurs in bedded/massive ore and is associated with bornite, chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, bastnäsite-(Y), xenotime-(Y), anhydrite, and quartz. Individual crystals range in size from 30 to 300 μm. No twinning is observed. The mineral is colorless and transparent with a vitreous luster. The calculated density is 3.62 g/cm3. An electron microprobe analysis yields the empirical formula (based on 10 O apfu), (Y1.61Yb0.11Er0.11Dy0.08Ho0.03 Gd0.02Tm0.02)Σ1.99(CO3)3·H2O. Yuchuanite-(Y) is triclinic, with space group P 1 ¯ (# 2) , Z = 6, and unit-cell parameters a = 6.2134(3) Å, b = 8.9697(3) Å, c = 19.9045(7) Å, α = 91.062(3)°, β = 90.398(3)°, γ = 91.832(3)°, and V = 1108.54(8) Å3. The structure is constructed from (110) sheets of eight-coordinated Y polyhedra and C trigonal planar groups. All Y polyhedra are linked by shared edges. The Y atoms occupy six independent crystallographic sites of two different coordination types: [YO7(H2O)] and [YO8]. The chemical composition of yuchuanite-(Y) is similar to tengerite-(Y), Y2(CO3)3·2–3H2O, but is distinct in the crystal structure, such as crystal system, space group, and unit cell, from that of tengerite-(Y). The Y polyhedra of tengerite-(Y) are nine-coordinated, while those of yuchuanite-(Y) are eight-coordinated. Moreover, their structures could be both described as sheet structures built up from Y polyhedra and CO3 trigonal planar groups but link together in significantly different ways. Thus, yuchuanite-(Y) is not a polytype of tengerite-(Y) but is an independent mineral species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rotate vector (RV) reducers have advantages of high torque ratio, and extremely reliable functioning under dynamic load conditions, and so forth, and they are extensively used in precision transmissions, such as industrial robots. The torsional stiffness of RV reducers is a main parameter affecting the meshing vibration and transmission performance. In addition, the variable loads and tooth modifications have significant influence on the torsional stiffness of RV reducers. In this paper, a new method of calculating torsional stiffness for RV reducers considering variable loads and tooth modifications is presented. The dynamic stress and deformation of meshing teeth are calculated based on Hertz formulation, and the number of meshing teeth is determined by analyzing the dynamic stress of meshing teeth. Then, the torsional stiffness of RV reducers is obtained. Finite element method is applied to calculate the deformation of cycloidal‐pin gear in the maximum force position δmax. The influence of variable applied loads and different tooth modifications of cycloidal‐pin gear transmission on torsional stiffness are also studied. The results show that variable applied loads and different tooth modifications influence the torsional stiffness of RV reducers by changing teeth deformation and clearance, respectively.
