The aim of the current study was to explore elite athletes' experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on both growth and well-being. Informed by two complementary theoretical models, this research focused on elite athletes' potential to experience growth. Five elite athletes completed the Stress-Related Growth Scale–Revised and underwent semistructured interviews to develop a narrative of their experiences. Through a thematic analysis, we articulated elite athletes' experiences of both illusory and real adversarial growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Four themes illustrated their experiences: the COVID-19 experience, searching for positives, self-transformation, and the social impact. A fifth theme, well-being, was integral throughout, involving the continued protection and development of athlete well-being. Future research recommendations and implications include further exploration of adversarial growth experiences after the pandemic and long-term effects of the pandemic on elite athletes, the creation of an adversarial growth measure, and engagement with this research to inform support measures to decrease the impact of adversity on elite athletes' well-being. Purpose: To investigate the psychosocial and behavioral impact of oligodontia across three presentation types and determine if presentation type can infer impact. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients who had been diagnosed and treated for oligodontia between 2006 and 2021 were identified from hospital records. Patients received two questionnaires: (1) a modified version of a condition-specific questionnaire--the Cleft Research Questionnaire (CRQ), used to investigate demographic, life, and treatment details and impacts--and (2) the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), used to investigate the oral health-related quality of life. Patients were assigned to three presentations (Types 1 to 3) of oligodontia, identified according to the edentulous space present and complexity of prosthodontic treatment required. The hypothesis that there is a relationship between oligodontia type and study variables was tested. Results: Twenty-two questionnaires were completed and returned. There were 13 men and 9 women. The age range was from 16 to 32 years. In total, 18 patients had nonsyndromic oligodontia and 4 had oligodontia associated with anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (AED). The main areas of impact were patient-reported: life less satisfying (64.5%, n = 14; pretreatment), making friends (45%, n = 10), school participation (45%, n = 10), and public speaking (45%, n = 10). No relationship was discovered between the degree of physical effect of the presentation type and study variables, including the degree of psychosocial impact or life satisfaction. Conclusions: Oligodontia can have a negative functional and social impact on a patient prior to prosthodontic treatment. Prosthodontic treatment improved the life satisfaction for most patients. Organizations are increasingly confronted with critical questions and concerns posed to their legacies of irresponsibility, in other words, the decisions and actions taken by past generations of managers deemed unethical and immoral and with enduring negative social and environmental consequences in the present. However, there is limited guidance for organizations and their managers on how to deal with such legacies. The purpose of this paper is to offer directions on how organizations can approach their troubled pasts. We draw from the literature on transitional justice to develop an approach that organizations can use to deal with their legacies of irresponsibility. This paper contributes to the literature on historic corporate social (ir)responsibility and provides practical guidance for organizations to address the sins of previous generations ofmanagers. Prior research has adopted a job-crafting perspective to explain why employees attempt to craft their roles meaningfully (Wrzesniewski & Dutton, 2001). We explore this theoretical lens in a new context that is particularly challenging for workers and where it would seem unlikely to apply: poverty. More specifically, we study female teachers in slums in India. We use a mixed-methods approach—first qualitative research, then quantitative research—to contextualize job-crafting theorizing by identifying, conceptualizing, and testing situational challenges and enablers in regard to meaningful work in this context. More specifically, we develop and corroborate new theory suggesting that poverty- and gender-related stressors deplete teachers' energy and resources, limiting relational job crafting, but that teachers' identification with the community helps to counteract this challenge, ultimately increasing their social impact. More fundamentally, we show how job-crafting theorizing, contextualized in a poverty setting, helps to explain how social organizations, through their fieldworkers (e.g., female teachers), create social impact. An increasing number of consumers expect brands to engage in important societal issues. Brands like Procter & Gamble, Microsoft, and Gillette have launched ads promoting their stances on highly salient issues in public discourse. While corporate social responsibility (CSR) advertising research has explored issues such as skin cancer, heart disease, and abortion, this research stream has yet to investigate how an issue's salience in society influences consumer response. Because salient (versus nonsalient) issues make information more accessible and generate debate, the advertising context (i.e., public issue salience) may influence consumer response to CSR ads. Applying the salience theory of party competition to CSR advertising, this research shows how an issue's consensus level and individual issue importance differentially impact brand attitudes and purchase intentions when an issue is salient. Through a series of four experiments with real ads, the present investigation shows how and when public issue salience affects marketing outcomes. This research adopts an issue-centric view and contributes to CSR advertising scholarship by (a) opening a new theoretical corridor, (b) demonstrating empirically how the advertising context (public issue salience) influences marketing outcomes, (c) providing a more holistic, comparative advertising perspective on issue selection, and (d) generating new insight into individual issue importance. Drawing substantially on epistemologies developed in the context of vulnerable populations and responding to calls for greater epistemic justice in marketing research, an intersectional framework involving positionality, partiality, reflexivity, and situated knowledges is proposed to reflect on undertaking market research with Muslim minority populations in non-Muslim majority countries. This population is often highly vulnerable due to stigmatisation, Islamophobia and processes of othering that affect Muslim consumer behaviour, practices and identity. The framework is derived from reflexive experiences of market research undertaken by the authors on and with Islamic consumers both on an individual and collective basis and from relevant literature. The framework highlights the relational nature of the research experience and the situatedness and positionality of both the researcher and researched. In the case of research with Muslim populations we also draw out the significance of religious identity, ideology and religiosity; intersectionalities, including gender; and religious and cultural power as framed by cultural and institutional practices and which affect notions of class and attitudes to the other. We propose an approach that helps overcome Muslim/non-Muslim binaries that flatten the lived notions of the Muslim experience and consumption practices and instead provide for a richer and more representative account of Muslim identity. Connecting management research to policy is a focal route through which management research can contribute to meaningful and sustainable social change. Yet, management researchers often fail to make this connection. The present article discusses management research's potential to inform effective policy and social change, and provides a roadmap for how to realize that potential. Our perspective is rooted in the effective altruism philosophy, which argues that people should use evidence and careful reasoning to figure out how to use their scarce resources (i.e., time and money) to do the most good. We hope that this article can help spark discussion and meaningful change within management research so that we, as individual scholars and as a field, can make a bigger and better impact. Social technologies on online review platforms enable social interactions among users, such as establishing following relationships and commenting on others' posts. Although it is well recognized that more socially engaged reviewers tend to be more active and generate content of higher quality, our knowledge about the impact of social interactions on peer evaluations of reviews is limited. To address this issue, we use a unique dataset from a major online review platform and find that, ceteris paribus, reviews posted by more socially engaged users receive more helpfulness votes than those posted by less socially engaged users. Similarly, users tend to vote more for reviews written by their mutual followers than for those written by nonfollowers. In addition, we find that less socially engaged users review a broader range of products and services but are less likely to stay on a platform, which may further contribute to the inflation of peer evaluations (toward online reviews). Our study provides unique empirical evidence regarding the influence of social interactions on review evaluations. Utilizing a qualitative thematic analysis of submission materials for 18 award-winning, gender-inclusive campaigns at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity, this research reenvisions inclusive advertising with a strengthened focus on impact. While existing literature has largely focused on identity categories and inclusive representation, we identify four mechanisms for impact (perceptual, conceptual, instrumental, and political) and scalability (across micro, meso, and macro levels) as salient themes in the award-winning and shortlisted campaigns that are recognized by the industry as gender inclusive. Theoretical and managerial contributions include (1) identification of how social impact is conceptualized in award-winning inclusive advertising and how impact functions through awards, (2) development in the definition of inclusive advertising to include social impacts as an outcome, and (3) a reimagining and expansion of the concept of inclusive advertising through a proposed Inclusive Advertising Spectrum, which encompasses representation, storytelling, and social impacts. Advertisers have begun to recognize the role of inclusive advertising in consumer well-being. One way to increase inclusivity is to minimize experiences of exclusion using marketing tools. Although social exclusion is common in today's world, current academic literature is mostly silent on how advertising can mitigate the negative effects of exclusion. This article initiates the discussion on inclusive advertising by systematically exploring the underlying phenomena of social exclusion and related concepts (e.g., marginalization, loneliness, and social isolation). Through a bibliometric approach and thematic content analyses that includes more than 490 articles published in the last two decades in marketing, including advertising, communication, and psychology journals, we evaluate the mechanisms and consequences of social exclusion. We discuss several avenues for future research, present propositions, and suggest guidelines on (1) how marketers can design inclusive advertising, (2) how advertising can cater to the needs of excluded consumers, and (3) how advertising may alleviate the negative effects of social exclusion and enhance consumer psychological well-being. The increased prevalence of social media in organizational communication suggests that it is only a matter of time before it is used in sport doping prevention and control. This commentary intends to highlight not only how antidoping organizations and individual athletes are using social media to promote awareness to clean sport competition but also how the relationship between social media and various sport stakeholders may develop in the future. In particular, it focuses on three main areas in the intersection of social media and doping prevention: agenda-setting by antidoping organizations via formal social media campaigns, social norm control by athletes when they post on social media, and social media use by athletes and fans as a form of framing. Prospective research directions, as well as probable future uses of social media in doping enforcement and control, are also discussed, including using social media to monitor athlete whereabouts and to communicate directly with athletes in doping matters. The article examines anti-corruption mechanisms within the public administration system as one of the most important tools in combating organized crime in the economic sector. Corruption and organized crime pose a serious threat to the stability and sustainable development of the state, as they undermine public trust in government institutions, create unfavorable conditions for business, and hinder economic progress. In a context where organized criminal groups are actively infiltrating various sectors of the economy, especially in the field of economic law, the implementation of effective anticorruption mechanisms becomes extremely relevant and necessary to ensure the economic security of the country. The analysis of legal norms and institutional frameworks indicates that the modern system of anticorruption measures in Ukraine is aimed at ensuring maximum transparency and accountability in the activities of public authorities. The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) play a key role in monitoring compliance with anti-corruption legislation and investigating the most complex and significant corruption cases that have a substantial impact on economic and social stability. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) provides the necessary procedural oversight and supports the prosecution in corruption cases, enabling the effective implementation of anti-corruption policies at all levels of government. The article also discusses the implementation of an electronic declaration system that ensures the transparency of financial transactions of public officials and allows for the identification of possible cases of illicit enrichment, which is one of the most serious corruption offenses. Additionally, the ProZorro system, which ensures openness and transparency in the public procurement process, plays a key role in reducing corruption risks in the public sector. Special attention is also given to the use of blockchain technologies in financial monitoring, which can significantly increase trust in public finances and complicate the possibility of manipulation and abuse in thi s area. The article discloses the content of social standards that state authorities are obliged to observe in the process of exercising their competence after the Association Agreement enters into force. Attention is focused on the fact that EU requirements regarding the activities of all branches of the state apparatus of Ukraine in terms of ensuring social standards are of primary importance in the context of the introduction of European approaches to good governance. It is substantiated that the timely and optimal implementation of EU social standards in Ukraine is possible only if a special legal mechanism is developed and applied. The heart of such a mechanism is the Association Agreement. Based on the analysis of the provisions of the specified document, the essence of the most significant social standards, which Ukraine undertakes to implement in practice, has been identified and disclosed. In particular, it is ensuring justice and improving the quality of life of citizens on the basis of equality and non-discrimination, increasing the level of social orientation of state policy towards migrants, introducing innovative approaches in the sphere of activity of authorities to combat the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, precursors and psychotropic substances in order to overcome negative consequences for health and the negative social consequences of drug addiction, taking into account the social interests of the modern population while simultaneously caring for future generations, developing measures aimed at minimizing the risks to the population’s health from the nuclear industry, the social orientation of the organization of the fiscal and economic policy of the state. It has been proven that against the background of the deepening of the European integration processes of Ukraine, the modernization of the domestic social policy of the state is inevitable. First of all, this process requires the creation of an innovative legal basis for diversifying the mechanisms of its implementation, leveling the level of socio-economic development of Ukraine in order to avoid regional socio-economic asymmetry. Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder, whose clinical picture is dominated by visible body changes as well as numerous somatic and behavioural abnormalities. Aim: The aim of the study was to explore the ways in which the individual experiences NF1 in everyday life, with particular emphasis on the impact of the altered body on family interactions, in addition to the personal and social identity of individuals with NF1. Methods: A qualitative study was performed using individual in-depth interviews with 93 individuals with NF1 (median age: 36.69; range: 18 to 64; 26% males). Results: Body changes caused by NF1 determine the specificity of social interactions in the families of the sick. The strength and direction of the impact of body changes on social interactions depends on their type (visibility, invisibility), as well as the meanings given to them. The visibility of disease lesions triggers an attitude of excessive control and stigmatization in the family, especially on the part of the mothers of individuals with NF1, and prompts a tendency to define the individual through the prism of the disease and its bodily manifestations. In turn, the lack of visibility of disease symptoms gives rise to, especially on the part of the fathers of the sick, opposing attitudes of disease denial, normalization of its symptoms and a tendency to question the disease identity of individuals with NF1. The great intensity of interactional problems concerns especially those families in which NF1 was transmitted through inheritance, and family members blame each other for the disease. This leads to repression and denial of the disease, excluding it from the scope of issues discussed in the family, which is an attempt to avoid the attribution of blame for the disease. Conclusions: The body changes resulting from NF1 have social consequences that are of critical importance in the lives of the sick. The impact of NF1 on family interactions depends on the ways in which the disease is understood by the sick individual and his or her family members. Social impact is an increasingly common factor in judging the “success” of arts projects within communities, yet its applications can work to entrench marginalizations. This article notes the risks of looking only unidirectionally and dyadically, for the effects projects have on those participating. What would happen if we focused instead on how socially-engaged projects support participants to make their own impacts through the performing arts? The article combines interdisciplinary theoretical discussions with perspectives from the sex worker-led community musical theatre project, Sex Worker’s Opera. Having problematized certain approaches to social impact, the author flags the potential of the concept of affect for community music practitioners and researchers. She suggests affect – as it is more commonly used in the adjacent field of applied theatre – offers a helpful counter to limiting understandings of effect, and should be integrated into social impact discussions by socially-engaged arts funders, organizers, practitioners and researchers. The ramifications of AUD extend beyond the individual and affect their family caregivers. Yet, the majority of existing research has primarily focused on individuals with AUD and interventions to encourage their abstinence rather than on their support systems.In order to advance a holistic approach, research to address this gap is imperative to understand family caregiver concerns and needs for added support.We conducted a qualitative study using van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological approach to uncover the meaning of family caregivers' lived experiences and capture the essence of their involvement in caring for a relative with AUD. A purposeful and snowball sample of family members (N = 10) living within the United States participated in a face‐to‐face or virtual, one‐on‐one audio‐recorded interview and a second meeting for member checking the transcribed data. Participants received a $20.00 gift card as a token for their participation.Six major themes emerged from the description of participants' lived experiences: (1) traversing the peaks and valleys, (2) wandering in the unknown, (3) pointing fingers, (4) weathering the storm, (5) drawing a line and (6) looking back, looking in. Although participants experienced many challenges, they never relinquished and remained committed to their caregiver role. Steadfastly staying with their relatives through crises exemplifies commitment as described by Sister Simone Roach's Theory of Caring. Through the ups and downs, each participant found meaning from the experience, which aligned closely with Starck's Theory of Meaning.This study has implications for nursing practice, public health policy and highlights the need for collaboration to address the existing challenges for family caregivers of relatives with AUD. Background: Social isolation and loneliness have both been associated with psychological health and cognitive decline in older adults. This study investigated the impact of social interaction through remote communication technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic on the cognitive and psychological status of older adults with and without cognitive impairment. Methods: Participants were recruited from Boston (USA) and Chieti (Italy). The study used a randomized single-blinded controlled crossover design with an intervention (remote social conversations with research staff over 20-minute video or telephone calls three times per week) and a passive control condition, each one of 4-weeks duration. The primary outcome was a composite cognitive score change from baseline to week 4. Secondary outcomes included scales for mood, anxiety, and loneliness. Results: Out of 196 participants recruited from April 2020 to April 2021, 17% dropped out. Based on the blind MoCA, 52% had cognitive impairment, and 25% were at risk of social isolation according to the Lubben social network scale. We observed that larger social networks were linked to better cognitive status and lower depression and anxiety levels, while loneliness was directly associated to depression severity. Older adults with cognitive impairment exhibited higher levels of depression and anxiety and were at greater risk for social isolation. In terms of the intervention, 91% preferred telephone over video calls. The intervention did not lead to improvements in cognitive or psychological scores. Conclusions: More work is needed to assess the utility of this intervention for the support of a heterogenous cross-cultural sample of older adults at-risk for social isolation, including individuals with cognitive impairment. Future research should explore longer intervention periods, categorize participants by call type, and target those meeting social isolation criteria. Social isolation affects the brain and behavior in a variety of animals, including humans. Studies in traditional laboratory rodents, including mice and rats, have supported the idea that short-term social isolation promotes affiliative social behaviors, while long-term isolation promotes anti-social behaviors, including increased aggression. Whether the effects of isolation on the social behaviors of mice and rats generalize to other rodents remains understudied. In the current study, we characterized the effects of short-term (3-days) social isolation on the social behaviors of adult prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster) during same-sex and opposite-sex social interactions. Our experiments revealed that short-term isolation did not affect rates of ultrasonic vocalizations or time spent in non-aggressive social behaviors and huddling during same-sex and opposite-sex interactions. Unexpectedly, although short-term isolation also did not affect time spent in resident-initiated and mutually-initiated aggressive behavior, we found that short-term isolation increased time spent in visitor-initiated aggression during male-male interactions. Our findings highlight the importance of comparative work across species and the consideration of social context to understand the diverse ways in which social isolation can impact social behavior. Modern construction methods, such as additive manufacturing, are aimed to enhance the efficiency and quality of construction processes while potentially reducing waste generation and material use, thus contributing to sustainability performance (SP). However, comprehensively understanding the sustainability trade‐offs associated with these methods is crucial for guiding both research and practical applications toward sustainable development. This study aims at quantifying the SP of various construction methods for housing, including traditional, prefabricated, and additive manufacturing approaches. A sustainability index, integrating economic, environmental, social, and technological criteria, is utilized to assess different alternatives. Findings reveal promising aspects of 3D printing technologies, such as potential cost reductions through scale increase and process optimization, minimized material waste generation, creation of skilled employment opportunities, and enhanced construction flexibility and ease. Nevertheless, challenges persist, notably significant greenhouse gas emissions and limited supplier availability. ABSTRACT Mental illness stigma is still a widespread phenomenon with damaging psychological and social consequences. This study is of relevance to the design of appropriate psychiatric services which reinforce the social integration of individuals living with mental illness. It investigates the relationship between contact, emotional intelligence (EI) and attitudes of the general population towards people with mental illness. This study utilized a random sampling method to collect data from 183 participants. Measures included the EI Scale for assessing EI, the level of contact (LOC) Report to examine the LOC with mental illness, and the Attitudes towards Mental Illness Scale to evaluate attitudes towards mental illness. Each of these instruments has been validated in previous research. Data analysis involved Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple linear regression, and mediation analysis to explore the relationships between variables. EI and particularly the abilities of use of emotion and other's emotional appraisal were associated with more positive attitudes towards mental illness. conversely, lower levels of contact were associated with higher levels of social care, indicating a complicated relationship between contact and attitudes. The findings highlight that a deeper understanding of the association between contact with individuals living with mental illness and attitudes towards them is needed, focusing on potential mechanisms that might modify this association. Additionally, a focal point that is underlined in this research is the important role of EI in affecting attitudes as it seems to offer promising directions in planning educational programs and stigma reduction interventions. Attacks by wild and domestic animals represent a significant public health and social issue with implications for both mortality and morbidity. These incidents contribute to many deaths and hospitalizations each year, with statistical variations depending on the native fauna and cultural practices unique to different countries. The ongoing expansion of urban areas, with the reduction of natural habitats and the increasing frequency of human recreational activities in wild environments, is exacerbating human-wildlife interactions, increasing of such incidents.In forensic pathology, when encountering a body with lesions of animal origin, it is crucial first to exclude any potential homicidal dynamics. Following this, it is equally important to accurately differentiate between antemortem injuries and post-mortem scavenging to ensure a correct interpretation of the cause and manner of death. In this paper, three autopsy cases involving animal attacks are described and analysed in detail. Of particular significance is the final case, where the injuries were attributed to predation by red foxes (Vulpes vulpes). Such cases are rare and thus represent an underexplored area within forensic literature, making this case especially noteworthy for the scientific community. Introduction: This large-scale, mixed-methods study aimed to uncover sources of learner anxiety when interacting in small groups in the language classroom. A secondary aim of the study was to examine relationships between these sources and learners' levels of small-group anxiety. Methods: Data was gathered from 1,344 learners enrolled in English classes at four universities in western Japan. Qualitative content analysis was employed to identify anxiety-inducing situations described in learner' responses, and categorize these situations based on the underlying source of anxiety. Results: The analysis revealed two primary sources of small-group anxiety: interacting with other learners and L2 communication. The most prominent interaction-related situations were interacting with new people, expressing opinions, and uncomfortable silence, while those related to L2 communication were competence and proficiency, conveying meaning and understanding others. Levels of small-group anxiety were significantly related to the source of anxiety. Learners with a high level of anxiety were twice as likely to cite interaction as the source of their anxiety than learners with a low level of anxiety. Discussion: The results suggest that interaction anxiety may be more salient than foreign language anxiety when language learners work in small groups, and that the impact of this form of social anxiety needs to be taken into consideration for learners to fully receive the benefits of group work. AbstractThe unprecedented events on October 7th in Israel, characterized by little actual and perceived control over the sources of the stress, have affected virtually every household in Israel, either due to the economic and social consequences of the ensuing war or experiencing the loss of relatives and friends. The current study examined the association between traumatic loss of close friends/relatives and resilience during the initial stages of the Iron-Swords war and explored the moderating role of coping strategies for this link. Data were collected from 286 participants (age range 19-82) who completed online scales assessing loss, resilience, and coping strategies during the first weeks of the Iron-Swords war. Results demonstrated a negative association between emotion-focused coping and resilience, as well as a positive association between problem-focused coping and resilience. Moreover, coping strategies moderated the loss-resilience link, which was significant only for individuals reporting low levels of both problem-focused and emotion-focused coping. Our findings support the claim that relying on at least one dominant coping strategy (i.e., problem-focused coping/emotional-focused coping/both) is efficient to reserve resilience levels at times of adversity. Approximately 85,000 adolescent and young adults (AYAs; age 15–39) are diagnosed with cancer in the United States annually. Experiencing a cancer diagnosis as an AYA can substantially impact social connections and social health. This paper describes the design and protocol of an observational study to prospectively assess social health and its association with physical activity and quality of life among AYAs after a cancer diagnosis. The study uses a longitudinal observational design to prospectively explore the relationships between social health and activity behaviors (physical activity and sedentary time) at four clinically significant timepoints over the course of 12 months among AYAs newly diagnosed with cancer. Patients are recruited at three hospitals and surveyed at each time period. Multiple dimensions of social health are assessed including social support, social roles, loneliness, social anxiety, and social networks. A wrist accelerometer is worn for one week at each assessment period. Change in social network structures will be analyzed using egocentric social network analysis. Structural equation models will be fitted to analyze the relationship between social constructs and physical activity. Findings from this study will address gaps in our understanding of the impact of a cancer diagnosis on multiple dimensions of social health for AYAs and the potential role social factors play in physical activity and quality of life. The “Stress Tests and Biomarkers of Resilience” conference, hosted by the American Geriatrics Society and the National Institute on Aging, marks the second in a series aimed at advancing the field of resilience science. Held on March 4–5, 2024, in Bethesda, Maryland, this conference built upon the foundational work from the first conference, which focused on defining resilience across various domains—physical, cognitive, and psychosocial. This year's gathering centered around three factors: the biology that underlies resilient outcomes; the social, environmental, genetic, and psychosocial factors that impact that resilience biology; and the biomarker testing and imaging that predicts resilient outcomes for older adults. The presentations and discussions around these topics were underscored by considerations around the many impacts of social determinants of health on resiliency interventions, and by advances in the modern training and research methodologies that influence data collection and experiment design. Scholars have recently emphasized the importance of siblings in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people. However, most of this literature assumed that these siblings are heterosexual and cisgender. This study considers how LGBTQ siblings may impact the experiences of LGBTQ youth, particularly as the youth navigates cisnormativity and heteronormativity within the family. We analyzed interviews with 26 LGBTQ youth who have LGBTQ siblings from the Family, Housing, and Me (FHAM) project. We find that LGBTQ siblings offer positive social support to LGBTQ youth, particularly for transgender and nonbinary youth who have transgender or nonbinary siblings. For most of the youth, having mutual disclosure of their gender/sexual identity with the siblings strengthened their relationship and built sibling solidarity. LGBTQ siblings were a consistent source of LGBTQ identity support and often shared the burden of confronting cisnormativity in family life. We expected higher avoidance of potentially crowded spaces, reduced visual attention on other people, and heightened physiological arousal in social situations for participants with higher social anxiety levels.Eighty-seven participants, pre-screened for high variance in trait social anxiety, first completed a half-hour walk on a freely chosen route and subsequently had a staged social interaction with a confederate consisting of a non-interactive waiting phase and a short conversation.While social anxiety did not modulate the choice of route during the walk phase, socially anxious participants avoided gazing at other individuals in non-interactive situations, i.e., during the walk and the waiting phase. In contrast, during actual interaction, they showed increased visual attention towards the confederate’s face. Across all experimental phases, highly socially anxious individuals showed elevated heart rates, but this effect was independent of the social context.This study showed that social anxiety affects social exploration behavior not in a way of general avoidance, but rather in nuanced adaptations depending on the concrete situation, likelihood of interaction and associated socio-evaluative threat. The 2012 London Olympics Games bid emphasized using the Olympics as an urban regeneration catalyst of one of London’s poorest areas and one of the Games’ legacies. This study’s contribution is an examination of this legacy using 2001–2022 data, analysing the pricing and sales changes in the residential property market in London’s 656 electoral wards, before and after the IOC announced the location of the Games in 2005, and when the Games were held in 2012. The results reveal a slight and short-lived positive difference between the Olympic Park wards and the rest of the city, particularly after the awarding announcement and the Games themselves. Regeneration efforts were successful but not necessarily in the ways outlined in the bid, as the local community (as was prior to the announcement) is not necessarily the main benefactor due to the predictable migration and gentrification of the area. This introduction explains the significance of the quintessentially Southeast Asian ‘king of fruit’, the durian. In the last nine years or so, durian production has been scaling up from small 4-acre orchards to plantations of 10,000 acres in Malaysia. This has to do with the opening up of the China market for Malaysian whole durians (both nitrogen-frozen and fresh chilled durians) which differ from Thai durians. The rush to open up new plantations through clear-cutting forests has multiple socio-environmental consequences. Yet studies on the ecological and social impact of durian plantations or critiques of the durian Plantationocene and Capitalocene are scarce. This brief essay lays out the context and justifies why there is a need to study the durian and its multiple stakeholders, both human and nonhuman, along the supply chain. Identifying a humanities and social science gap in the research on the durian, the special focus provides new theories to think about the fruit in relation to media, anthropology, Indigenous studies, food, identity and cultural studies. Introduction: As stroke patients may have impaired motor function, there may have increased sedentary behavior. Factors associated with sedentary behavior need to be explored to develop targeted interventions. Although studies explore the effects of exercise self-efficacy and perceived social support on sedentary behavior, the relationship is not clear. The aim of this study was to explore the mediating effect of exercise self-efficacy on perceived social support and objective measured sedentary behavior in stroke patients. Methods: The random sampling method was adopted to select 275 stroke patients from the neurology department of a third-grade hospital of Henan Province from June 2023 to March 2024 in a cross-sectional descriptive study. A general data questionnaire, exercise self-efficacy scale, perceived social support scale, and ActiGraph GT3X accelerometer were used to investigate. The structural equation model was used to analyze the mediating effect of exercise self-efficacy between perceived social support and sedentary behavior. Results: The mean sedentary behavior time in stroke patients in this study was (479.65 ± 112.65) min, the mean score of perceived social support was (47.53 ± 17.16), and the mean score of exercise self-efficacy was (24.19 ± 6.25). The correlation analysis revealed that, the sedentary behavior of stroke patients was negatively correlated with exercise self-efficacy and perceived social support. The results of the mediation analysis showed that exercise self-efficacy played a partial mediating role between perceived social support and sedentary behavior. Conclusion: Perceived social support and exercise self-efficacy were influential factors in sedentary behavior. Moreover, the impact of perceived social support on sedentary behavior was partially mediated by exercise self-efficacy. Therefore, to decrease the sedentary behavior, it is crucial to improve the level of perceived social support in stroke patients. Introduction: The United Arab Emirates is among the countries affected by substance use disorders (SUDs), which have economic and social impacts. Relapse after successful rehabilitation is a major issue in the treatment of SUD. Several factors increase the risk of relapse in patients with SUD, such as craving and negative social experiences. Resilience could empower patients struggling with SUD. This study aims to explore levels of resilience and relapse risk in adult Emirati patients diagnosed with SUD, and also the possible correlation between the two variables. Methods: Two hundred eighty-six Emirati adult patients with SUD completed a self-administered questionnaire for demographics, resilience (Connor and Davidson Resilience Scale), and relapse risk (Stimulant Relapse Risk Scale). Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, SD, etc.) were used to describe study participants and variables. Inferential statistics were used to analyze the relationships, associations, and correlations between resilience and relapse risk, the main variables, and the participants demographics. Result: Participants' mean total score for resilience was 72.92 out of a maximum possible score of 100 (SD = 16.99), while their mean total score for relapse risk was 59.07 out of a maximum possible score of 105 (SD = 12.23). Furthermore, examining the correlation between the resilience subscales and the relapse risk subscales revealed similar significant, negative, low-to-moderate correlations between all the subscales (r = -0.486). AbstractScholarship on the science of reading (SoR) has, in some instances, taken up more narrow views of reading in discussions and instantiations of reading assessment that do not center equity and justice, especially in schools. This can lead to less valid and even harmful reading assessment, especially for students from historically marginalized communities with diverse language, cultural, and neurological differences. Here, we draw on critically-minded reading research, as well as on work in equity-oriented educational assessment, to inform a justice-based reading assessment framework that can guide research, theory, policy, and practice. Using an equity-oriented and justice-based lens, the framework outlines three interwoven components: (1) relational and humanizing assessment practices; (2) justice-based products and outcomes; and, (3) a critical construct of reading. The framework compels designers, developers, and users to center the needs of rights-holders, and especially those from historically marginalized communities, throughout the assessment process. To do so, the framework outlines five principles that include orienting to equity and justice; prioritizing humanizing and critical assessment practices; grounding assessment in a complex, dynamic, and critical construct of reading for diverse populations; designing for justice-based social consequences, and engaging in critical debrief throughout. The article analyses certain forms of business support, including grant support at the expense of public funds. In the context of constant instability and uncertainty, businesses are actively seeking alternative financial resources to carry out their activities. One of these external sources is the attraction of funds from the state and local budgets. Such support is especially important for small and medium-sized businesses. In its turn, the State (through public authorities or specialised institutions), by providing financial (grant) support, has the right to require these companies to comply with the rules and fulfil additional obligations in the context of social behaviour. It is noted that the State does not currently make full use of these tools. Given the rather difficult situation of business, the author proposes to introduce a mixed model of corporate social responsibility in Ukraine, where the principle of voluntariness will be ensured (business will independently decide whether and to what extent to adhere to high standards of socially responsible behaviour), the State will create conditions for encouraging business to behave in this way, and on the other hand, the State will carry out stricter regulation of certain types of activities. Based on the results of the study, proposals have been developed to encourage business entities to implement the principles of socially responsible behaviour. It is noted that in grant competitions, the compliance of a potential grantee with high standards of good conduct is important. The author substantiates a change in approaches to the evaluation of project applications of business entities in grant competitions. It is proved that the state, through the grant support system, should give priority and further fund only projects of businesses that implement socially responsible behaviour. It is proposed to tighten the requirements for potential grantees who are to be supported at the expense of state and local budgets. The author emphasises the expediency of introducing a special mechanism for the selection of suppliers and service providers for grant recipients, which will take into account the established integrity policy. Focusing solely on enhancing the resilience of power systems at a systemic level would lead to a significant underestimation of the actual impact of extreme disasters. Equally vital is the assurance of livelihood security amidst such extreme conditions, which is crucial for the development of a truly resilient power system. Hence, this paper attempts to incorporate quantifiable metrics assessing public safety impacts into resilience enhancement works, thereby guiding the precise allocation of funds. Considering that the residents' intuitive feelings are the most direct reflection of the severity of the disaster, this paper employs the modified prospect theory to formulate functions representing residents' psychological risk perception and risk‐taking willingness to tolerate risks during disruptions in power, gas, and water supplies. Meanwhile, in order to accurately calculate the energy loss duration for each residential customer, a resilience enhancement method for post‐disaster collaborative dispatch of electricity‐gas‐water systems is proposed. With the objective of minimizing the public safety and economic impact of disasters, the optimal multi‐source collaborative emergency restoration strategy is developed. The significant necessity and efficiency of the proposed strategy are verified with exhaustive case studies. Purpose: Intentions are central to entrepreneurial thinking and thus entrepreneurial action yet we have not explored the different pathways of how intent evolves. How does an easily assessed measure of cognitive style influence how entrepreneurs develop their intentions? Design/methodology/approach: We examine how cognitive style interacts with entrepreneurial intentions testing the model separately with subjects scoring as Intuitives or Analytics on cognitive style, plus nationality and gender as covariates with entrepreneurial intensity as a prospective moderator, using 528 university students from Norway, Russia and Finland. Findings: Cognitive style does moderate the intentions model. For intuitives, country influenced social norms and entrepreneurial intensity proved a moderator. For analytics, neither perceived desirability, country, nor entrepreneurial intensity were significant. Research limitations/implications: We will replicate these findings in different samples, especially non-WEIRD settings. It will also be useful to test alternate measures of cognitive style and other likely moderators. Practical implications: We offer diagnostics for educators and ecosystem actors given that our findings suggest intriguing differences in the entrepreneurial mindset. Social implications: Understanding multiple pathways exist to entrepreneurial intent and thus action helps policymakers and entrepreneurial champions better able to help nurture entrepreneurs and thus entrepreneurship in their communities. Originality/value: Cognitive style has dramatic effects on the specification of the formal intentions model arguing for multiple pathways to entrepreneurial intent. Purpose: This study examines the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on innovation, considering the role of the three dimensions of intellectual capital (human capital, structural capital and relational capital). Specifically, the analysis explores the direct effect of CSR and intellectual capital on innovation, the effect of CSR on intellectual capital, and the mediating effect of intellectual capital on the relationship between CSR and innovation. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected from a sample of 101 Tunisian firms operating in various industries. The conceptual model of direct and indirect effects was tested with partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS 4 software. Findings: CSR is positively related to innovation, as well as all dimensions of intellectual capital. Structural capital is the only dimension of intellectual capital that has a significant effect on innovation. CSR affects innovation through its impact on structural capital. Originality/value: Most studies have examined the direct effect of CSR on innovation in firms in developed countries. In contrast, this research sheds light on the mediating role of intellectual capital in this relationship, underlining the specific role of human capital, relational capital and structural capital. Forest fires can occur suddenly and have significant environmental, economic, and social consequences. The timely and accurate evaluation and prediction of their progression, particularly the spread speed in difficult-to-access areas, are essential for emergency management departments to proactively implement prevention strategies and extinguish fires using scientific methods. This paper provides an analysis of models for predicting forest fire spread in China and globally. Incorporating remote sensing (RS) technology and forest fire science as the theoretical foundation, and utilizing the Wang Zhengfei forest fire spread model (1983), which is noted for its broad adaptability in China as the technical framework, this study constructs a forest fire spread model based on remote sensing interpretation. The model improves the existing model by adding elevation an factor and optimizes the method for acquiring certain parameters. By considering regional landforms (ridge lines, valley lines, and slopes) and vegetation coverage, this paper establishes three-dimensional visual interpretation markers for identifying hotspots; the orientation of the hotspots can be identified to simulate the spread of the fire uphill, downhill, in the direction of the wind, left-level slope, and right-level slope. Then, the data of Sentinel-2 and DEM were used to invert the fuel humidity and slope of pixels in the fire line areas. The statistical inversion data from pixels, which replaced fixed-point values in traditional models, were utilized for predicting forest fire spread speed. In this paper, the model was applied to the case of a forest fire in Mianning County, Sichuan Province, China, and verified using high-time-resolution Himawari-8 data, Gaofen-4 data, and historical data. The results demonstrate that the direction and maximum speed of fire spread for the fire lines in Baifen Mountai, Jiaguer Villageand, Muchanggou, Xujiabaozi, and Zhaizigou are uphill, 16.5 m/min; wind direction, 17.32 m/min; wind direction, 1.59 m/min; and wind direction, 5.67 m/min. The differences are mainly due to the locations of the fire lines, moisture content of combustibles, and maximum slopes being different. Across the entire fire line area, the average rate of increase in the area of open flames within one hour was 3.257 hm2/10 min (square hectares per 10 min), closely matching the average increase rate (3.297 hm2/10 min) monitored by the Himawari-8 satellite in 10 min intervals. In contrast, conventional fixed-point fire spread models predicted an average rate of increase of 3.5637 hm2/10 min, which shows a larger discrepancy compared to the Himawari-8 satellite monitoring results. Moreover, when compared to the fire spot monitoring results from the Gaofen-4 satellite taken 54 min after the initial location of the fire line, the predictions from the RS-enabled fire spread model, which integrates remote sensing interpretations, closely matched the actual observed fire boundaries. Although the predictions from the RS-enabled fire spread model and the traditional model both align with historical data in terms of the overall fire development trends, the RS-enabled model exhibits higher reliability and can provide more accurate information for forest fire emergency departments, enabling effective pre-emptive measures and scientific firefighting strategies. Background: The accessibility of Parkinson's disease medicines is limited across sub‐Saharan Africa, which can have negative health, social and financial consequences for people with Parkinson's disease and their families. However, there is a stark gap in the literature regarding the impact of poor access to medicines on individuals. Objectives: The study objective was to understand the accessibility of Parkinson's disease medicines in Kenya from the perspective of people with Parkinson's disease, their caregivers and neurologists. Methods: In‐depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 55 people with Parkinson's disease, 23 caregivers and 8 neurologists to understand their experience regarding challenges with accessing Parkinson's disease medicines and the health, social and financial impact of poor availability and affordability. Results: Medicines for Parkinson's disease were deemed to be largely unavailable and unaffordable across Kenya. People with Parkinson's disease, caregivers and neurologists expressed the financial burden caused by long‐term treatment in the absence of health insurance coverage. Further, barriers accessing medicines negatively impacted symptom control, social relations, and quality of life. Conclusions: Access to Parkinson's disease medicines in Kenya is limited, with severe implications for symptom management and quality of life. The current study examines the relationship between the level of social activity and crime in place. We theoretically conceptualized the social activity as a combination of two essential elements of vitality and diversity. Our results suggest that level of social activity has a crime enhancing effect on both violent and property crime. We also found that there are positive interaction effects between the measures of vitality and diversity. This study contributes to the field by introducing a theoretically driven concept of social activity and empirically showing how the two dimensions of social activity—vitality and diversity—have independent effects that multiplicatively impact the level of crime at a location.
