Abstract

For the transmission of data at high speed, the requirement of using a larger bandwidth increases due to the rise in wireless communication technologies like smart devices, mobiles, etc. An abrupt increase in the requirement for internet data due to an increase in internet users demanded time-to-time upgrades in available techniques. A significant modernization has been done by technology in mobile and wireless communication and networking fields. Therefore, the development of mobile communication began with the First Generation (1G) and has progressed continuously to the Fifth Generation (5G). To address the weaknesses of previous generations, each successive generation has been developed with improvements. Fifth Generation (5G) is the latest technology in wireless communication cellular systems, providing the highest internet speeds to everyone, anywhere, anytime. 5G has attracted many global researchers, universities, and research institutes to invent new techniques for enhancement in channel capacity and spectrum utilization of communication systems. Abstract

This study presents the testing of the effectiveness of various additives in WOKA 3533 (WC-10Co4Cr) cermet HVOF coating while it was being eroded by sand slurry. WOKA cermet powder has additions of molybdenum carbide, yttrium oxide, and zirconium oxide, all at the same concentration of 3 weight percent. The additive-based WOKA cermet coatings were developed via high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. The pot tester was used to examine the effects of slurry erosion in ashy conditions. In addition to analyzing the microstructure and crystalline phases of as-sprayed coatings and microhardness, this research also compared the mechanical characteristics of conventional and additive-based WOKA cermet coatings. Examining the results, one can see how various cermet coatings do in terms of surface erosion and wear. Yttrium oxide was identified as a superior addition to molybdenum carbide for use in WOKA cermet coatings. Zirconium oxide, however, is not a good fit for WOKA cermet coatings in erosion wear environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We consider the problem of rate allocation among multiple simultaneous video streams sharing multiple heterogeneous access networks. We develop and evaluate an analytical framework for optimal rate allocation based on observed available bit rate (ABR) and round-trip time (RTT) over each access network and video distortion-rate (DR) characteristics. The rate allocation is formulated as a convex optimization problem that minimizes the total expected distortion of all video streams. We present a distributed approximation of its solution and compare its performance against H-infinity optimal control and two heuristic schemes based on TCP-style additive-increase-multiplicative decrease (AIMD) principles. The various rate allocation schemes are evaluated in simulations of multiple high-definition (HD) video streams sharing multiple access networks. Our results demonstrate that, in comparison with heuristic AIMD-based schemes, both media-aware allocation and H-infinity optimal control benefit from proactive congestion avoidance and reduce the average packet loss rate from 45% to below 2%. Improvement in average received video quality ranges between 1.5 to 10.7 dB in PSNR for various background traffic loads and video playout deadlines. 28. Dynamic Task Fetching Over Time Varying Wireless Channels for Mobile Computing Applications

Abstract

The processing, computation and memory requirements posed by emerging mobile broadband services require adaptive memory management and prefetching techniques at the mobile terminals for satisfactory application performance and sustained device battery lifetime. In this work we investigate a scenario where tasks with varied computational requirements are fetched by a mobile device from a central server over an error prone wireless link. We examine the buffer dynamics at the mobile terminal and the central server under varying wireless channel connectivity and device memory congestion states as variable sizes tasks are executed on the terminal. Our goal is to minimize the latency experienced by these tasks while judiciously utilizing the device buffering capability. We use a dynamic programming framework to model the optimal prefetching policy. We further propose a) a prefetching algorithm Fetch-or- Not (FON), which uses quasi-static assumption on system state to make prefetching decisions, and b) a prefetching policy RFON, which uses randomized approximation to the optimal solution thus obviating the need for dynamic online optimization and substantially reducing the computational complexity. 43. Computational analysis of solid particle-erosion produced by bottom ash slurry in 90° elbow

Abstract

Present work is devoted to investigation of the slurry erosion wear in a 90° elbow by using commercial Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code FLUENT. Discrete phase erosion wear model was used to predict erosion in 90° elbow by solving the governing equations through Euler-Lagrange scheme. Particle tracking was considered by using standard k-ε turbulence scheme for the flow of bottom ash slurry. Erosion wear in elbow was investigated along with velocity distribution and turbulence intensity. The radius-to-diameter (r/D) ratio was taken as 1.5. Results show that erosion rate increases with increase in velocity. Present numerical simulation model holds close agreement with previous studies. Distorted patterns appeared at low velocities. The V-shape pattern appeared on the outer wall of elbow at high velocities. The low velocity region occurs around circumference of elbow wall at outer wall of elbow due to stimulation of the drag forces near the wall region.
