Developing fluorescence-encoded infrared (FEIR) vibrational spectroscopy for single-molecule applications requires a detailed understanding of how the molecular response and external experimental parameters manifest in the detected signals. In Paper I [L. Whaley-Mayda, A. Guha, and A. Tokmakoff, J. Chem. Phys. 159, 194201 (2023)] we introduced a nonlinear response function theory to describe vibrational dynamics, vibronic coupling, and transition dipole orientation in FEIR experiments with ultrashort pulses. In this second paper, we apply the theory to investigate the role of intermode vibrational coherence, the orientation of vibrational and electronic transition dipoles, and the effects of finite pulse durations in experimental measurements. We focus on measurements at early encoding delays—where signal sizes are largest and therefore of most value for single-molecule experiments, but where many of these phenomena are most pronounced and can complicate the appearance of data. We compare experiments on coumarin dyes with finite-pulse response function simulations to explain the time-dependent behavior of FEIR spectra. The role of the orientational response is explored by analyzing polarization-dependent experiments and their ability to resolve relative dipole angles in the molecular frame. We numerically demonstrate that a pure time-harmonic bias AC current of a specific amplitude τ f and angular frequency ω f can excite the chaotic magnetization dynamics in a Josephson-like antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin Hall oscillator (SHO) with biaxial magnetic anisotropy of an AFM layer. The nature of such a stochastic generation regime in a Josephson-like AFM SHO could be explained by the random hopping of the working point of the SHO between several quasi-stable states under the action of an applied AC current. We reveal that depending on the ω f / τ f ratio several stochastic generation regimes interspersed with regular generation regimes can be achieved in an AFM SHO, which can be used in spintronic random signal sources and various nano-scale random signal devices, including the spintronic p-bit device considered in this work. The obtained results are important for the development and optimization of spintronic devices capable of generating and processing (sub-)THz-frequency random signals, which are promising for ultra-fast probabilistic computing, cryptography, secure communication, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LoS (Line of Sight) MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) is considered the best way to deliver high-capacity channels for terahertz communications due to the severe attenuation suffered by reflected components. Unfortunately, terahertz links are easily blocked by any obstruction resulting in link breakage. Therefore, it is necessary to provide alternative paths via reflectors. A problem shared by LoS paths and reflected paths (via polished reflectors) is that the channel matrix is rank 1 in the far field. As a result, the achieved capacity is lower than what can theoretically be achieved in a rich multi-path environment. In this work, we simultaneously solve the channel rank problem and the coverage problem by using static reflective surfaces which provide limited scattering of the incident signal in a way that minimizes signal loss but provides multiple paths to the receiver with varying phase. We construct such a surface and characterize the received signal using a terahertz testbed. We show that using our surface, we can improve channel capacity for 2 × 2 LoS MIMO. Introduction: This study aims to evaluate program signaling in surgical specialties, analyze its influence on residency applications, and provide recommendations for enhancing its consistency and effectiveness. Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed AAMC ERAS data from the 2021 to 2022 and 2023 residency match cycles, focusing on surgical specialties including general surgery, neurological surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedic surgery. Results: A positive correlation existed between the number of signals received and the number of applicants to a program across 4 surgical specialties. 10% of programs in each specialty received between 17% and 28% of all signals. There was a negative correlation between the number of current DO residents at a program and the number of signals received. Amongst surgical specialties, those with more signals per applicant had a more equitable distribution of signals across competitive programs. University programs received the most signals, programs were less likely to receive signals if they had a higher percentage of DO residents, and IMG applicants were less likely to send signals. Conclusion: Specialties with more signals per applicant had a more equitable distribution of signals across competitive programs, and university programs received proportionally more signals than community programs. Should we keep doing what we know works for us, or should we risk trying something new as it could work even better? The exploration–exploitation dilemma is ubiquitous in daily life decision-making, and balancing between the two is crucial for adaptive behavior. Yet, we only have started to unravel the neurocognitive mechanisms that help us to find this balance in practice. Analyzing BOLD signals of healthy young adults during virtual foraging, we could show that a behavioral tendency for prolonged exploitation was associated with weakened signaling during exploration in central node points of the frontoparietal attention network, plus the frontopolar cortex. These results provide an important link between behavioral heuristics that we use to balance between exploitation and exploration and the brain function that supports shifts from one tendency to the other. Importantly, they stress that interindividual differences in behavioral strategies are reflected in differences in brain activity during exploration and should thus be more in the focus of basic research that aims at delineating general laws governing visual attention. In this paper, we propose a novel decomposition method using elastic-band transform (EBT), which mimics eye scanning and is utilized for multiscale analysis of signals. The proposed EBT-based method can efficiently extract the features of various signals with the following three advantages. First, it is a data-driven approach that extracts several important modes based solely on data without using predetermined basis functions. Second, it does not assume that the signal consists of (locally) sinusoidal intrinsic mode functions, which is a common assumption in existing methods. Therefore, the proposed method can handle a wide range of signals. Finally, it is robust to noise. A practical algorithm for decomposition is presented, along with some theoretical properties. Summary: This paper designs a distributed dynamic‐detection‐based event‐triggered control method to address the secure tracking control problem. A distributed online iterative dynamic detection mechanism is designed to detect denial‐of‐service (DoS) attacks. The detection results are transmitted into a proposed ET method to adjust the triggering threshold, which can mitigate the impact of DoS attacks. Moreover, the signals of state, observations of disturbance observers and adaptive laws are calculated to generate the trigger signals in the control signal simultaneously, which can help conserve communication resources and reduce the occurrence of pulse phenomenon. Meanwhile, since the predictor exists certain prediction errors that will reduce the tracking performance, a speed function is introduced to ensure the achievement of the control objective. The designed solution guarantees semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded for all signals within the closed‐loop system. It remains a pressing concern to understand how neural computations relate to risky decisions. However, most observations of brain-behavior relationships in the risk-taking domain lack a rigorous computational basis or fail to emulate of the dynamic, sequential nature of real-life risky decision-making. Recent advances emphasize the role of neural prediction error (PE) signals. We modeled, according to prospect theory, the choices of n = 43 human participants (33 females, 10 males) performing an EEG version of the hot Columbia Card Task, featuring rounds of sequential decisions between stopping (safe option) and continuing with increasing odds of a high loss (risky option). Single-trial regression EEG analyses yielded a subjective value signal at centroparietal (300-700 ms) and frontocentral (>800 ms) electrodes and in the delta band, as well as PE signals tied to the feedback-related negativity, P3a, and P3b, and in the theta band. Higher risk preference (total number of risky choices) was linked to attenuated subjective value signals but increased PE signals. Higher P3-like activity associated with the most positive PE in each round predicted stopping in the present round but not risk-taking in the subsequent round. Our findings indicate that decreased representation of decision values and increased sensitivity to winning despite low odds (positive PE) facilitate risky choices at the subject level. Strong neural responses when gains are least expected (the most positive PE on each round) adaptively contribute to safer choices at the trial-by-trial level but do not affect risky choice at the round-by-round level. Transmembrane proteins transmit chemical signals as well as mechanical cues. The latter is often achieved by coupling to the cytoskeleton. The incorporation of fully engineerable membrane‐spanning structures for the transduction of chemical and, in particular, mechanical signals is therefore a critical aim for bottom‐up synthetic biology. Here, a membrane‐spanning DNA origami signaling units (DOSUs) is designed and mechanically coupled to DNA cytoskeletons encapsulated within giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs). The incorporation of the DOSUs into the GUV membranes is verified and clustering upon external stimulation is achieved. Dye‐influx assays reveal that clustering increases the insertion efficiency. The transmembrane‐spanning DOSUs act as pores to allow for the transport of single‐stranded DNA into the GUVs. This is employed to trigger the reconfiguration of DNA cytoskeletons within GUVs. In addition to chemical signaling, mechanical coupling of the DOSUs to the internal DNA cytoskeletons is induced. With chemical cues from the environment, clustering of the DOSUs is induced, which triggers a symmetry break in the organization of the DNA cytoskeleton inside of the GUV. Lymphedema is a debilitating disease with no effective cure and affects an estimated 250 million individuals worldwide. Prior studies have identified mutations in piezo-type mechanosensitive ion channel component 1 (PIEZO1), angiopoietin 2 (ANGPT2), and tyrosine kinase with Ig-like and EGF-like domains 1 (TIE1) in patients with primary lymphedema. Here, we identified crosstalk between these molecules and showed that activation of the mechanosensory channel PIEZO1 in lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) caused rapid exocytosis of the TIE ligand ANGPT2, ectodomain shedding of TIE1 by disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 17 (ADAM17), and increased TIE/PI3K/AKT signaling, followed by nuclear export of the transcription factor FOXO1. These data establish a functional network between lymphedema-associated genes and provide what we believe to be the first molecular mechanism bridging channel function with vascular signaling and intracellular events culminating in transcriptional regulation of genes expressed in LECs. Eye gaze and expressions are crucial non‐verbal signals in face‐to‐face communication. Visual effects and telepresence demand significant improvements in personalized tracking, animation, and synthesis of the eye region to achieve true immersion. Morphable face models, in combination with coordinate‐based neural volumetric representations, show promise in solving the difficult problem of reconstructing intricate geometry (eyelashes) and synthesizing photorealistic appearance variations (wrinkles and specularities) of eye performances. We propose a novel hybrid representation ‐ ShellNeRF ‐ that builds a discretized volume around a 3DMM face mesh using concentric surfaces to model the deformable 'periocular' region. We define a canonical space using the UV layout of the shells that constrains the space of dense correspondence search. Combined with an explicit eyeball mesh for modeling corneal light‐transport, our model allows for animatable photorealistic 3D synthesis of the whole eye region. Using multi‐view video input, we demonstrate significant improvements over state‐of‐the‐art in expression re‐enactment and transfer for high‐resolution close‐up views of the eye region. In this work, the degenerate phenomena of transverse mode's frequency in an off-axis end-pumped solid-state lasers was researched based on a semi-confocal cavity. When the off-axis distance was 0.05 mm, the beam profile was always nearly Hermite-Gaussian mode in the change of cavity length. At this time, the degenerate range of transverse modes was the cavity length to radius ratio L/R from 0.4974 to 0.5008 by the analysis of the frequency signals. When the off-axis distance was 0.10 mm, the beam profile changed from the Hermite-Gaussian mode to the geometric mode and finally back to the Hermite-Gaussian mode as cavity length varied. At this time, the degenerate range of transverse modes was L/R from 0.4974 to 0.5025 by the analysis of the frequency signals. The beam profile was nearly the geometric mode in the range of L/R from 0.4958 to 0.5092. The degeneracy range by observing beating frequency changes was more accurate and more useful than the method by comparing the beam profile changes. Summary: Mucosal‐associated invariant T (MAIT) cells have a semi‐invariant T‐cell receptor that allows recognition of antigen in the context of the MHC class I‐related (MR1) protein. Metabolic intermediates of the riboflavin synthesis pathway have been identified as MR1‐restricted antigens with agonist properties. As riboflavin synthesis occurs in many bacterial species, but not human cells, it has been proposed that the main purpose of MAIT cells is antibacterial surveillance and protection. The majority of human MAIT cells secrete interferon‐gamma (IFNg) upon activation, while some MAIT cells in tissues can also express IL‐17. Given that MAIT cells are present in human barrier tissues colonized by a microbiome, MAIT cells must somehow be able to distinguish colonization from infection to ensure effector functions are only elicited when necessary. Importantly, MAIT cells have additional functional properties, including the potential to contribute to restoring tissue homeostasis by expression of CTLA‐4 and secretion of the cytokine IL‐22. A recent study provided compelling data indicating that the range of human MAIT cell functional properties is explained by plasticity rather than distinct lineages. This further underscores the necessity to better understand how different signals regulate MAIT cell function. In this review, we highlight what is known in regards to activating and inhibitory signals for MAIT cells with a specific focus on signals relevant to healthy and inflamed tissues. We consider the quantity, quality, and the temporal order of these signals on MAIT cell function and discuss the current limitations of computational tools to extrapolate which signals are received by MAIT cells in human tissues. Nestlings normally exhibit a mix of traits that attract parental care, such as postural and vocal begging and carotenoid‐based mouth colouration. These signals are hypothesised to be signs of nestling needs (vocal begging) and quality (mouth colouration). Therefore, we hypothesised that broods, where nestlings beg for less time and display more saturated carotenoid‐based mouth colouration, would have lower nestling mortality. We tested these predictions in two wild blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) populations. The breeding success (here defined as the proportion of eggs that produced fledglings) was related to nestling mouth flanges' carotenoid‐based colour saturation. This means that blue tits that raised nestlings with more coloured flanges had a higher within‐population breeding success. Time spent in vocal begging, by contrast, was not associated with breeding success. Hence, our findings reveal that some communication signals displayed by nestlings (carotenoid‐based colouration) predict breeding success, in our study mostly reflecting the proportion of eggs that hatched, while begging intensity does not, probably because the former reflects a better maternal pre‐laying condition and nestling physiological status in the mid‐term. Currently, surface EMG signals have a wide range of applications in human–computer interaction systems. However, selecting features for gesture recognition models based on traditional machine learning can be challenging and may not yield satisfactory results. Considering the strong nonlinear generalization ability of neural networks, this paper proposes a two-stream residual network model with an attention mechanism for gesture recognition. One branch processes surface EMG signals, while the other processes hand acceleration signals. Segmented networks are utilized to fully extract the physiological and kinematic features of the hand. To enhance the model's capacity to learn crucial information, we introduce an attention mechanism after global average pooling. This mechanism strengthens relevant features and weakens irrelevant ones. Finally, the deep features obtained from the two branches of learning are fused to further improve the accuracy of multi-gesture recognition. The experiments conducted on the NinaPro DB2 public dataset resulted in a recognition accuracy of 88.25% for 49 gestures. This demonstrates that our network model can effectively capture gesture features, enhancing accuracy and robustness across various gestures. This approach to multi-source information fusion is expected to provide more accurate and real-time commands for exoskeleton robots and myoelectric prosthetic control systems, thereby enhancing the user experience and the naturalness of robot operation. Since its first identification in the 1950s as a regulator of cell division, cytokinin has been linked to many physiological processes in plants, spanning growth and development and various responses to the environment. Studies from the last two and one-half decades have revealed the pathways underlying the biosynthesis and metabolism of cytokinin and have elucidated the mechanisms of its perception and signaling, which reflects an ancient signaling system evolved from two-component elements in bacteria. Mutants in the genes encoding elements involved in these processes have helped refine our understanding of cytokinin functions in plants. Further, recent advances have provided insight into the mechanisms of intracellular and long-distance cytokinin transport and the identification of several proteins that operate downstream of cytokinin signaling. Here, we review these processes through a historical lens, providing an overview of cytokinin metabolism, transport, signaling, and functions in higher plants. Maintaining exceptional product quality and boosting processing efficiency requires precise evaluation of various aspects of the turning process, including the cutting depth, feed rate, and size of the workpiece. This article presents a novel approach for observing the turning process state using modulation signal bispectrum (MSB) and motor current signals. A nonlinear model was established that clarifies the load torque oscillations during turning, which in turn affects the amplitude and phase modulation of the motor stator current. Random noise can be efficiently minimized using the MSB algorithm, allowing the extraction of the current-modulation characteristic sideband phase and amplitude from the collected current signal. This technique enables clear representation and enhanced monitoring of load torque changes throughout the turning process. The proposed method was validated via mathematical simulations and universal lathe tests, with the results indicating that the MSB phase and amplitude values effectively capture both dynamic and static torque alterations during the turning operation, making this approach a valuable tool for overseeing the turning process. Trajectory data from connected vehicles (CVs) provide a continuous and reliable means of obtaining information that can be leveraged to optimize traffic signals. This paper proposes a real‐time traffic signal control method using CV trajectory data as the sole input. The primary goal of the proposed signal control method is to prevent queue spillover, which may significantly decrease the traffic efficiency on urban networks and induce high delays to the travelers. The proposed method formulates the signal control problem via a linear quadratic optimization model, considering the constraints related to the duration and variability of green lights in practical traffic signal control systems. Compared to conventional max‐pressure‐based methods, the optimization model offers enhanced efficiency in handling these constraints, making it highly suitable for real‐life implementation. The proposed method has undergone testing in both simulated environments and real‐world applications. In the simulation experiments, the proposed method has been demonstrated to effectively reduce spillover risks and outperform a conventional max‐pressure‐based approach even when the CV penetration rate is as low as 5%. In the real‐world experiment, the proposed method had been tested in a traffic network around the Beijing Capital International Airport for several months. For solving a common fixed point of a finite family of G-nonexpansive mappings, we propose a parallel inertial SP-iteration monotone hybrid algorithm (PISPMHA). Weak convergence theorem is established for PISPMHA in Hilbert spaces endowed with graphs. Convergence behavior of PISPMHA is analyzed and discussed. The 21-cm line emitted by neutral hydrogen is the most promising probe of the Epoch of Reionization (EoR). Multiple radio interferometric instruments are on the cusp of detecting its power spectrum. It is therefore essential to deliver robust theoretical predictions, enabling sound inference of the coeval Universe properties. The nature of this signal traditionally required the modelling of |$\mathcal {O}(10^{7-8} \, {\rm Mpc}^3)$| volumes to suppress the impact of cosmic variance. However, the recently proposed Fixed & Paired (F&P) approach uses carefully crafted simulation pairs to achieve equal results in smaller volumes. In this work, we thoroughly test the applicability of and improvement granted by this technique to different observables of the 21-cm signal from the EoR. We employ radiation-magneto-hydrodynamics simulations to ensure the most realistic physical description of this epoch, greatly improving over previous studies using a seminumerical approach without accurate galaxy formation physics and radiative transfer. We estimate the statistical improvement granted by the F&P technique on predictions of the skewness, power spectrum, bispectrum, and ionized regions size distribution of the 21-cm signal at redshift 7 ≤ z ≤ 10 (corresponding to |${\ge}80{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$| of the gas being neutral). We find that the effective volume of F&P simulations is at least 3.5 times larger than traditional simulations. This directly translates into an equal improvement in the computational cost (in terms of time and memory). Finally, we confirm that a combination of different observables like skewness, power spectrum, and bispectrum across different redshifts can be utilized to maximize the improvement. Knowledge graph (KG) shows great potential in improving recommendation systems. Recent studies have focused on developing end-to-end models based on graph neural networks. However, these previous approaches do not fully utilize collaborative signals, which are the collective information and feedback provided by multiple users in a recommendation system. Specifically, we think that collaborative signals could be better utilized in two points. Firstly, users' collective information leads to differences in node importance in KG, offering opportunities to improve item representation. Secondly, an item's collaborative filtering (CF) feature can reveal the multiple interests of a user, helping to gain fine-grained user representation. In this paper, we highlight the effect of node importance estimation and CF-based item clustering and propose the collaborative signals injection module. We integrate this module in our Collaborative Signals Enhanced Knowledge Graph recommendation (CSEKG) model. CSEKG outperforms state-of-the-art methods like KGIN (Wang et al. in Learning intents behind interactions with knowledge graph for recommendation. The analysis of extraocular muscles' activation is crucial for understanding eye movement patterns, providing insights into oculomotor control, and contributing to advancements in fields such as vision research, neurology, and biomedical engineering. Ten subjects went through the experiments, including normal watching, blinking, upward and downward movements of eyes, and eye movements to the left and right while their electromyogram (EMG) signals were recorded. We analyzed the complexity of recorded EMG signals using fractal theory, sample entropy, and approximate entropy (ApEn). The results showed that the techniques are able to decode the changes in the complexity of EMG signals between different eye movements. The instantaneous frequency (IF) is an important feature for the analysis of nonstationary signals. For IF estimation, the time–frequency representation (TFR)-based algorithm is used in a common class of methods. TFR-based methods always need the representation concentrated around the "true" IFs and the number of components within the signal. In this paper, we propose a novel method to adaptively estimate the IFs of nonstationary signals, even for weak components of the signals. The proposed technique is not based on the TFR: it is based on the frequency estimation operator (FEO), and the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is used as its basis. As we know, the FRO is an exact estimation of the IF for weak frequency-modulated (FM) signals, but is not appropriate for strong FM modes. Through theoretical derivation, we determine that the fixed points of the FEOwith respect to the frequency are equivalent to the ridge of the STFT spectrum. Furthermore, the IF of the linear chirp signals is just the fixed points of the FEO. Therefore, we apply the fixed-point algorithm to the FEO to realize the precise and reliable estimation of the IF, even for highly FM signals. Finally, the results using synthetic and real signals show the utility of the proposed method for IF estimation and that it is more robust than the compared method. It should be noted that the proposed method employing the FEO only computes the first-order differential of the STFT for the chirp-like signals, while it can provide a result derived using the second-order estimation operator. In this article, we propose a joint waveform based on universal filtered multicarrier (UFMC) chirp for radar jamming and communication joint systems. Modulation of radar jamming chirp signals and communication signals on different subcarrier groups in the UFMC sub-band is used to achieve the waveform design. The jamming signal in the waveform contains a frequency shift coefficient that depends on the delay time, which can effectively improve the anti-frequency hopping ability and enhance the overall jamming efficiency. Simultaneously jamming signals can provide assistance in channel estimation and equalization of communication, improving the information transmission quality of communication subsystems. We concluded through reasonable trade-off analysis that the combined weight of radar jamming and communication is closely related to the overall performance of the waveform. The simulation results show that the proposed UFMC chirp synthesized waveform has good jamming and communication performance. This study is a continuation of pilot research on the relationships between seismic activity and changes in very low frequency (VLF) signals starting a few minutes or a few dozen minutes before an earthquake. These changes are recorded in the time and frequency domains and their duration can be influenced not only by the strongest earthquake but also by others that occur in a short time interval. This suggests that there are differences in these changes in cases of individual earthquakes and during the period of intense seismic activity (PISA). In a recent study, they were validated in the time domain by comparing the amplitude noise reductions during the PISA and before earthquakes that occurred in the analysed periods without intense seismic activity (PWISA). Here, we analyse the changes in the VLF signal amplitude in the frequency domain during the PISA and their differences are compared to the previously investigated relevant changes during PWISA. We observe the signal emitted by the ICV transmitter in Italy and received in Serbia from 26 October to 2 November 2016 when 907 earthquakes occurred in Central Italy. The study is based on analyses of the Fourier amplitude A F obtained by applying the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to the values of the ICV signal amplitude sampled at 0.1 s. The obtained results confirm the existence of one of the potential earthquake precursors observed during PWISA: significantly smaller values of A F for small wave periods (they can be smaller than 10 − 3 dB) than under quiet conditions (the expected values are larger than 10 − 2 dB). Exceptions were the values of A F for wave periods between 1.4 s and 2 s from a few days before the observed PISA to almost the end of that period. They were similar or higher than the values expected under quiet conditions. The mentioned decrease lasted throughout the observed longer period from 10 October to 10 November, with occasional normalisation. It was many times longer than the decreases in A F around the considered earthquakes during PWISA, which lasted up to several hours. In addition, no significant wave excitations were recorded at discrete small values of the wave periods during the PISA, as was the case for earthquakes during PWISA. These differences indicate the potential possibility of predicting the PISA if the corresponding earthquake precursors are recorded. The arene‐arene interactions between electron‐rich and deficient aromatics have been less understood. Herein, we focus on a [60]fullerene π‐surface as an electron‐deficient aromatics. Using a 1H signal of H2O@C60 as a magnetic probe, the presence of benzene–fullerene interactions was confirmed. To investigate substituent effects on the noncovalent arene‐fullerene interactions, NMR titration experiments were carried out using an open‐[60]fullerene and a series of substituted benzenes, i. e. PhX (X=NO2, CN, Cl, OMe, H, CH3, and NH2), demonstrating a 1 : 2 stoichiometry with a positive correlation between stabilization energies upon the first association (ΔG1) and Hammet constants (σm). The destabilization of the self‐assembled structure for X=OMe with a σ‐withdrawing nature clearly showed direct through‐space substituent‐π interactions describable by the Wheeler‐Houk model while the second association was suggested to be considerably perturbed by the secondary effects. Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading global cause of mortality. Age is an important covariate whose effect is most easily investigated in a healthy cohort to properly distinguish the former from disease-related changes. Traditionally, most of such insights have been drawn from the analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) feature changes in individuals as they age. However, these features, while informative, may potentially obscure underlying data relationships. In this paper we present the following contributions: (1) We employ a deep-learning model and a tree-based model to analyze ECG data from a robust dataset of healthy individuals across varying ages in both raw signals and ECG feature format. (2) We use explainable AI methods to identify the most discriminative ECG features across age groups.(3) Our analysis with tree-based classifiers reveals age-related declines in inferred breathing rates and identifies notably high SDANN values as indicative of elderly individuals, distinguishing them from younger adults. (4) Furthermore, the deep-learning model underscores the pivotal role of the P-wave in age predictions across all age groups, suggesting potential changes in the distribution of different P-wave types with age. Axon guidance molecules are critical for neuronal pathfinding because they regulate directionality and growth pace during nervous system development. However, the molecular mechanisms coordinating proper axonal extension and turning are poorly understood. Here, metastasis suppressor 1 (Mtss1), a membrane protrusion protein, ensured axonal extension while sensitizing axons to the Semaphorin 3E (Sema3E)-Plexin-D1 repulsive cue. Sema3E-Plexin-D1 signaling enhanced Mtss1 expression in projecting striatonigral neurons. Mtss1 localized to the neurite axonal side and regulated neurite outgrowth in cultured neurons. Mtss1 also aided Plexin-D1 trafficking to the growth cone, where it signaled a repulsive cue to Sema3E. Mtss1 ablation reduced neurite extension and growth cone collapse in cultured neurons. Mtss1-knockout mice exhibited fewer striatonigral projections and irregular axonal routes, and these defects were recapitulated in Plxnd1- or Sema3e-knockout mice. These findings demonstrate that repulsive axon guidance activates an exquisite autoregulatory program coordinating both axonal extension and steering during neuronal pathfinding. Background: Children with pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A2 (PAPP-A2) mutations resulting in low levels of bioactive insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) and progressive postnatal growth retardation have improved growth velocity and height following recombinant human (rh)IGF1 treatment. The present study aimed to evaluate whether Pappa2 deficiency and pharmacological manipulation of GH/IGF1 system are associated with sex-specific differences in growth-related signaling pathways. Methods: Plasma, hypothalamus, pituitary gland and liver of Pappa2ko/ko mice of both sexes, showing reduced skeletal growth, and liver of these mice treated with rhGH, rhIGF1 and rhPAPP-A2 from postnatal day (PND) 5 to PND35 were analyzed. Results: Reduced body and femur length of Pappa2ko/ko mice was associated with increases in: (1) components of IGF1 ternary complexes (IGF1, IGFBP5/Igfbp5, Igfbp3, Igfals) in plasma, hypothalamus and/or liver; and (2) key signaling regulators (phosphorylated PI3K, AKT, mTOR, GSK3β, ERK1/2 and AMPKα) in hypothalamus, pituitary gland and/or liver, with Pappa2ko/ko females having a more prominent effect. Compared to rhGH and rhIGF1, rhPAPP-A2 specifically induced: (1) increased body and femur length, and reduced plasma total IGF1 and IGFBP5 concentrations in Pappa2ko/ko females; and (2) increased Igf1 and Igf1r levels and decreased Ghr, Igfbp3 and Igfals levels in the liver of Pappa2ko/ko females. These changes were accompanied by lower phospho-STAT5, phospho-AKT and phospho-ERK2 levels and higher phospho-AMPK levels in the liver of Pappa2ko/ko females. Conclusions: Sex-specific differences in IGF1 system and signaling pathways are associated with Pappa2 deficiency, pointing to rhPAPP-A2 as a promising drug to alleviate postnatal growth retardation underlying low IGF1 bioavailability in a female-specific manner. To monitor damage developments in structures, various structural health monitoring methods based on different principles are used. The common aspect of elastic wavebased methods is to place appropriate sensors on the structure, to detect acoustic wave propagation and to analyze these signals the sensors transformed. The arrival time of these recorded signals to the sensors is the most significant parameter used to determine critical information such as the time and location of the damage. Therefore, the accurate calculation of the arrival time affects the accuracy of the damage detection. In this study, effects of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), sampling frequency, length of the signal, and length of the focal window on determining the arrival time of the signals to the sensors were investigated. For this purpose, an energy-traced arrival time picking approach (Akaike Information Criterion, AIC), which is the frequently used method in the literature, has been applied to a typical acoustic signal originated from a concrete cracking. The results of the study suggest the necessity of noise elimination, the optimum level of data logging and the ratios of focal window lengths for accurate time of arrival detection in the field monitoring of the structures using acoustic methods. The mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling is influenced by multiple regulatory proteins and posttranslational modifications; however, underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we report a novel role of small ubiquitin--like modifier (SUMO) in mTOR complex assembly and activity. By investigating the SUMOylation status of core mTOR components, we observed that the regulatory subunit, GβL (G protein β-subunit--like protein, also known as mLST8), is modified by SUMO1, 2, and 3 isoforms. Using mutagenesis and mass spectrometry, we identified that GβL is SUMOylated at lysine sites K86, K215, K245, K261, and K305. We found that SUMO depletion reduces mTOR--Raptor (regulatory protein associated with mTOR) and mTOR--Rictor (rapamycin-insensitive companion of mTOR) complex formation and diminishes nutrient-induced mTOR signaling. Reconstitution with WT GβL but not SUMOylation-defective KR mutant GβL promotes mTOR signaling in GβL-depleted cells. In an attempt to better understand recognition memory we look at how three approaches (dual processing, signal detection, and global matching) have addressed the probe, the returned signal and the decision in four recognition paradigms. These are single-item recognition (including the remember/know paradigm), recognition in relational context, associative recognition, and source monitoring. The contrast, with regards to the double-miss rate (the probability of recognizing neither item in intact and rearranged pairs) and the effect of the oldness of the other member of the test pair, between identifying the old words in test pairs (the relational context paradigm) and first identifying the intact test pairs and then identifying the old words (adding associative recognition to the relational context paradigm) suggests that the retrieval of associative information in the relational context paradigm is unintentional, unlike the retrieval of associative information in associative recognition. It also seems possible that the information that is spontaneously retrieved in single-item recognition, possibly including the remember/know paradigm, is also unintentional, unlike the retrieval of information in source monitoring. Probable differences between intentional and unintentional retrieval, together with the pattern of effects with regards to the double-miss rate and the effect of the other member of the test pair, are used to evaluate the three approaches. Cellular signalling is a complex process and involves cascades of enzymes that, in response to a specific signal, give rise to exact cellular responses. Signalling scaffold proteins organise components of these signalling pathways in space and time to coordinate signalling outputs. In this review we introduce a new class of mechanically operated signalling scaffolds that are built into the cytoskeletal architecture of the cell. These proteins contain force-dependent binary switch domains that integrate chemical and mechanical signals to introduce quantised positional changes to ligands and persistent alterations in cytoskeletal architecture providing mechanomemory capabilities. We focus on the concept of spatial organisation, and how the cell organises signalling molecules at the plasma membrane in response to specific signals to create order and distinct signalling outputs. The dynamic positioning of molecules using binary switches adds an additional layer of complexity to the idea of scaffolding. The switches can spatiotemporally organise enzymes and substrates dynamically, with the introduction of ∼50 nm quantised steps in distance between them as the switch patterns change. Together these different types of signalling scaffolds and the proteins engaging them, provide a way for an ordering of molecules that extends beyond current views of the cell. Recently, a signal sorting algorithm based on the congruence transform has been proposed, which is effective in dealing with the staggered Pulse Repetition Interval (PRI) signals. It can effectively sort the staggered PRI signals and obtain the sub-PRI sequence directly without sub-PRI ranking, and it is less affected by interfered pulses and pulse loss. Nevertheless, we find that the algorithm causes pseudo-peaks in the remainder histogram when sorting signals such as sliding PRI, sinusoidal PRI, etc. (collectively referred to as periodic PRI signal in this paper) and pseudo-peaks will cause errors in signal sorting. To solve the issue of pseudo-peaks when sorting periodic PRI signals, an improved sorting algorithm based on congruence transform is proposed. According to the analysis of the congruence characteristics of the periodic PRI signal, a novel method is proposed to identify pseudo-peaks based on the histogram peak amplitude and symmetric difference set. The signal sorting algorithm based on congruence transform is improved to achieve a good sorting effect on periodic PRI signals. Simulation experiments demonstrate that the novel algorithm can effectively sort periodic PRI signals and improve Precall, Pd, and Pf by 6.9%, 5.1%, and 3.2%, respectively, compared to the typical similar algorithms. The Neotectonic period of deformation in Anatolia has been embraced by a location between the complex interaction of Afro-Arabian and Eurasia plates. During this ongoing deformation, the eastern part was under the continuing influence of subduction by the Neotethyan Ocean in the Eastern Mediterranean Region resulting in the indentation of the Arabian Plate into Anatolia. As the Red Sea opened deformation became increasingly focused on a fault system comprising the Dead Sea, North Anatolian, and East Anatolian fault systems. To help constrain the age and deformation history of this last phase we have conducted a paleomagnetic study from a total of 28 sites at Lower-Middle Miocene Mazgirt volcanic rocks and Pliocene Karakoçan basalts in the Anatolian Plate, and the Quaternary Cizre basalts of the Arabian Plate. The mean paleomagnetic direction in Early-Middle Miocene time identifies a clockwise rotation of 12.38° ± 5.1° in the Anatolian Plate. In contrast, counterclockwise rotation of 19.2° ± 6.1° and 14.8° ± 5.7° is obtained in the Middle Miocene-Pliocene and Quaternary periods in the Anatolian and Arabian Plate, respectively. According to our findings, we point to the importance of two distinct tectonic events. The first phase defines a period between Lower Miocene to Pliocene which is defined by a clockwise rotation of 31.5°. It is concluded that during this time interval, the collision between Arabia and Eurasia and the motion of Arabia in the northeast direction gave rise to the clockwise rotation of Anatolia. The North Anatolian Fault (NAF) is thought to be inactive, while the East Anatolian Fault (EAF) was not generated in this time interval. In the second phase, the northwest-directed movement of the Arabian Plate led to counterclockwise rotations both in the Anatolian and Arabian Plate. We suggest that the North Anatolian Fault provided a contribution to this movement in the Pliocene, while the East Anatolian Fault accompanied this tectonic westward escape of the Anatolian Plate after the Quaternary. Machine learning tasks involving biomedical signals frequently grapple with issues such as limited data availability, imbalanced datasets, labeling complexities, and the interference of measurement noise. These challenges often hinder the optimal training of machine learning algorithms. Addressing these concerns, we introduce BioDiffusion, a diffusion-based probabilistic model optimized for the synthesis of multivariate biomedical signals. BioDiffusion demonstrates excellence in producing high-fidelity, non-stationary, multivariate signals for a range of tasks including unconditional, label-conditional, and signal-conditional generation. Leveraging these synthesized signals offers a notable solution to the aforementioned challenges. Our research encompasses both qualitative and quantitative assessments of the synthesized data quality, underscoring its capacity to bolster accuracy in machine learning tasks tied to biomedical signals. Furthermore, when juxtaposed with current leading time-series generative models, empirical evidence suggests that BioDiffusion outperforms them in biomedical signal generation quality. This paper studies the ℓ 1 - α ℓ 2 local minimization model for α ∈ (0 , 2 ] , which is the first time to consider the case of α > 1 . We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for a fixed sparse signal to be recovered from this model. Based on this condition, we also obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for any k-sparse signal to be recovered from ℓ 1 - α ℓ 2 local minimization model with 0 < α < 1 , α = 1 and 1 < α ≤ 2 . Motile bacteria use large receptor arrays to detect chemical and physical stimuli in their environment, process this complex information, and accordingly bias their swimming in a direction they deem favorable. The chemoreceptor molecules form tripod-like trimers of receptor dimers through direct contacts between their cytoplasmic tips. A pair of trimers, together with a dedicated kinase enzyme, form a core signaling complex. Hundreds of core complexes network to form extended arrays. While considerable progress has been made in revealing the hierarchical structure of the array, the molecular properties underlying signal processing in these structures remain largely unclear. Here we analyzed the signaling properties of nonnetworked core complexes in live cells by following both conformational and kinase control responses to attractant stimuli and to output-biasing lesions at various locations in the receptor molecule. Contrary to the prevailing view that individual receptors are binary two-state devices, we demonstrate that conformational coupling between the ligand binding and the kinase-control receptor domains is, in fact, only moderate. In addition, we demonstrate communication between neighboring receptors through their trimer-contact domains that biases them to adopt similar signaling states. Time–frequency analysis is an important tool used for the processing and interpretation of non-stationary signals, such as seismic data and remote sensing data. In this paper, based on the novel short-time fractional Fourier transform (STFRFT), a new modified STFRFT is first proposed which can also generalize the properties of the modified short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Then, in the modified STFRFT domain, we derive the instantaneous frequency estimator for the chirp signal and present a new type of synchrosqueezing STFRFT (FRSST). The proposed FRSST presents many results similar to those of the synchrosqueezing STFT (FSST), and it extends the harmonic signal to a chirp signal that offers attractive new features. Furthermore, we provide a detailed analysis of the signal reconstruction, theories, and some properties of the proposed FRSST. Several experiments are conducted, and all of the results illustrate that the proposed FRSST is more effective than the FSST. Cell fate is precisely modulated by complex but well-tuned molecular signaling networks, whose spatial and temporal dysregulation commonly leads to hazardous diseases. Biomolecular condensates (BCs), as a newly emerging type of biophysical assemblies, decipher the molecular codes bridging molecular behaviors, signaling axes, and clinical prognosis. Particularly, physical traits of BCs play an important role; however, a panoramic view from this perspective toward clinical practices remains lacking. In this review, we describe the most typical five physical traits of BCs, and comprehensively summarize their roles in molecular signaling axes and corresponding major determinants. Moreover, establishing the recent observed contribution of condensate physics on clinical therapeutics, we illustrate next-generation medical strategies by targeting condensate physics. Employing the Laplace transform and its properties, we investigate the evolution of the coupled thermal and fluid-acoustic waveforms that arise in a signaling problem under the Eringen–Cattaneo–Christov–Straughan model of poroacoustic phenomena. Assuming a Heaviside temperature input, we determine the effects of what we term the "Eringen coefficient" by examining the propagation and evolution of the resulting shock and/or acceleration waveforms. To accurately capture the time-frequency spectral anomaly, a novel time-frequency analysis (TFA) method, termed as time-reassigned multisynchrosqueezing S-transform (TMSSST), is proposed. In this study, we derive a N-order group delay (GD) estimator designed for frequency-domain S-transform to cope with the signal with fast varying instantaneous frequency (IF). By introducing an iterative reassignment procedure, the proposed TMSSST not only can produce a highly energy-concentrated time-frequency representation (TFR) but also can reconstruct the original signal with a high accuracy. Three synthetic signals are employed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing with some classical TFA techniques such as S-transform (ST), synchrosqueezing S-transform (SSST) and time-reassigned synchrosqueezing S-transform (TSSST). It is shown that the TMSSST does a better job in addressing strongly frequency-varying signal. Face matching consists of the ability to decide whether two face images (or more) belong to the same person or to different identities. Face matching is crucial for efficient face recognition and plays an important role in applied settings such as passport control and eyewitness memory. However, despite extensive research, the mechanisms that govern face-matching performance are still not well understood. Moreover, to date, many researchers hold on to the belief that match and mismatch conditions are governed by two separate systems, an assumption that likely thwarted the development of a unified model of face matching. The present study outlines a unified unequal variance confidence–similarity signal detection–based model of face-matching performance, one that facilitates the use of receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and confidence–accuracy plots to better understand the relations between match and mismatch conditions, and their relations to factors of confidence and similarity. A binomial feature-matching mechanism is developed to support this signal detection model. The model can account for the presence of both within-identities and between-identities sources of variation in face recognition and explains a myriad of face-matching phenomena, including the match–mismatch dissociation. The model is also capable of generating new predictions concerning the role of confidence and similarity and their intricate relations with accuracy. The new model was tested against six alternative competing models (some postulate discrete rather than continuous representations) in three experiments. Data analyses consisted of hierarchically nested model fitting, ROC curve analyses, and confidence–accuracy plots analyses. All of these provided substantial support in the signal detection–based confidence–similarity model. The model suggests that the accuracy of face-matching performance can be predicted by the degree of similarity/dissimilarity of the depicted faces and the level of confidence in the decision. The differential signaling of multiple FGF ligands through a single fibroblast growth factor (FGF) receptor (FGFR) plays an important role in embryonic development. Here, we use quantitative biophysical tools to uncover the mechanism behind differences in FGFR1c signaling in response to FGF4, FGF8, and FGF9, a process which is relevant for limb bud outgrowth. We find that FGF8 preferentially induces FRS2 phosphorylation and extracellular matrix loss, while FGF4 and FGF9 preferentially induce FGFR1c phosphorylation and cell growth arrest. Thus, we demonstrate that FGF8 is a biased FGFR1c ligand, as compared to FGF4 and FGF9. Mediated social touch (MST) is a popular way to communicate emotion and connect people in mobile communication. This article applies MST gestures with vibrotactile stimuli in two online communication modes—asynchronous and synchronous communication (texting and video calling) to enhance social presence for mobile communication. We first designed the application that included the visual design of MST gestures, the vibrotactile stimuli design for MST gestures, and the interface design for texting and video calling. Then, we conducted a user study to explore if the MST gestures with vibrotactile stimuli could increase social presence in texting and video calling compared to MST gestures without vibrotactile stimuli. We also explored if the communication modes affected the social presence significantly when applying MST signals. The quantitative data analysis shows that adding vibrotactile stimuli to MST gestures helps to increase social presence in the aspects of co-presence, perceived behavior interdependence, perceived affective understanding, and perceived emotional interdependence. Adding vibrotactile stimuli to MST gestures causes no significant differences in attentional allocation and perceived message understanding. There is no significant difference between texting and video calling when applying MST signals in mobile communication. The qualitative data analysis shows that participants think MST gestures with vibrotactile stimuli are interesting, and they are willing to use them in mobile communication, but the application design should be iterated based on their feedback. The present article focuses on the output regulation problem for uncertain 1‐d reaction‐diffusion equation(RDE), in which the disturbance inputs are located at both the interior of the equation and uncontrolled end. Both the reference signal and the disturbances signal are specified due to an exosystem of time‐varying coefficients. The difficulty of the problem is that the control end is noncollocated with the regulated output. The so‐called feedforward control is designed by introducing an regulator, which is determined by infinite‐dimensional equation. A state observer is proposed based on the measurement output to recover the original and the external systems. The suitable feedback control has to be integrated by replacing the states in the expression of feedforward control law. As a result, exponential convergence of the error between the reference signal and the output, and the closed‐loop stability are established.
