Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (LJF, called Jinyinhua in China), comes from the dried flower buds or flowers to be opened of Lonicera japonica Thunb. in the Lonicera family. It has a long history of medicinal use and has a wide range of application prospects. As modern research advances, an increasing number of scientific experiments have demonstrated the anticancer potential of LJF. However, there is a notable absence of systematic reports detailing the anti-tumor effects of LJF. This review integrates the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with contemporary pharmacological techniques, drawing upon literature from authoritative databases such as PubMed, CNKI, and WanFang to conduct a comprehensive study of LJF. Notably, a total of 507 compounds have been isolated and characterized from the plant to date, which include volatile oils, organic acids, flavonoids, iridoids, triterpenes and triterpenoid saponins. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated that LJF extract, along with components such as chlorogenic acid, luteolin, rutin, luteoloside, hyperoside and isochlorogenic acid, exhibits potential anticancer activities. Consequently, we have conducted a comprehensive review and summary of the mechanisms of action and clinical applications of these components. Furthermore, we have detailed the pharmacokinetics, quality control, and toxicity of LJF, while also discussing its prospective applications in the fields of biomedicine and preventive healthcare. It is hoped that these studies will provide valuable reference for the clinical research, development, and application of LJF.

Background: Polyphyllin is a class of saponins extracted from Paris polyphylla rhizomes and has been used in clinical application in China for more than 2000 years. However, the mechanism for treating gastric cancer (GC) is still unclear. This study was designed to predict the targets and mechanisms of total Polyphyllin from Paris polyphylla rhizomes for the treatment of GC. Method: Firstly, PubChem and Swiss Target Prediction databases were utilized to collect the 12 ingredients of total Polyphyllin from Paris polyphylla rhizomes and their targets. GC-related genes were obtained from the GEO database. Then the intersecting targets to all these molecules that identified using Venny. Secondly, the intersecting targets were imported into STRING platform for protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Moreover, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were conducted in DAVID website. In addition, the GEPIA was applied to perform the expression levels, transcript levels, staging, and overall survival of hub genes. In addition, we used AutoDock Vina to evaluate binding affinity of molecular docking between key ingredients and anti-GC targets. In vitro cell experiments, we detected the cell viability of gastric cancer cells at 24, 36, and 48 h using CCK-8 assay. The G0/G1 of cell cycle and apoptosis were detected by flow cytometry. Finally, quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the level of hub genes, and Western blot was used to detect the changes of PI3K/Akt signal pathway. Results: Firstly, we identified 12 ingredients and 286 targets of total Polyphyllin. A total of 2653 GC-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were collected, including 1366 up-regulated genes and 1287 down-regulated genes. Moreover, 45 targets were obtained after intersection. Secondly, results of the GO enrichment suggested that these genes were closely related to cell proliferation, migration and aging. KEGG analysis suggested that Polyphyllin in GC therapy were mostly regulated by multiple pathways, including the pathways in cancer, calcium signaling pathway, Rap1 signaling pathway, phospholipase D signaling pathway, etc. In addition, GEPIA results exhibited that PDGFRB, KIT, FGF1, GLI1, F2R, and HIF1A were associated with GC progression, stage, and survival. Besides, the molecular docking results further confirmed that the binding energy of Polyphyllin Ⅲ with HIF1A was minimal. In vitro cell experiments, Polyphyllin Ⅲ inhibited the cell viability of gastric cancer cells, blocked the cell cycle G0/G1 phase, and induced cell apoptosis. In addition, Polyphyllin Ⅲ down-regulated the mRNA levels of PDGFRB, KIT, FGF1, GLI1, F2R, and HIF1A, and regulated the PI3K/Akt signal pathway. Conclusions: The results revealed that total Polyphyllin treated GC through multiple targets, multiple channels, and multiple pathways. In addition, Polyphyllin Ⅲ played an anti-gastric cancer role by inhibiting the proliferation of gastric cancer.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate colorectal cancer-related knowledge, health beliefs, and screening behaviour in first-degree relatives (FDRs) of patients with Lynch syndrome-associated colorectal cancer (CRC) and explore the predictive factors of screening behaviour based on a health belief model. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the colorectal department of a Class A tertiary hospital in Guangzhou from December 2017 to December 2019. A total of 265 FDRs of 96 patients with Lynch syndrome-related CRC were selected. The study was conducted in the colorectal department of a tertiary cancer centre in Guangzhou. The demographic questionnaire, the simplified CRC knowledge questionnaire, and the Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale were used for evaluation. Data were analyzed using statistical description, between-group comparisons, and binary logistic regression. Results: A total of 160 (60.4%), 61 (23.0%), and 44 (16.6%) of the participants had high, medium, and low levels of knowledge about CRC, respectively; the average overall score of health belief was 121.36 ± 13.02. Sixty-one participants (23.0%) underwent Lynch syndrome-associated cancer screening. BackgroundThoracic Aortic Dissection (TAD) is a life-threatening disease without effective drug treatments. The disruption of HASMCs homeostasis is one direct histopathologic alteration in TAD pathological process. Several miRNAs have been shown abnormally expressed in TAD and to regulate HASMCs homeostasis. The primary goal of this study is to identify the miRNAs and the specific mechanisms that lead to HASMCs homeostasis disruption.MethodsBulk miRNA sequencing was performed to explore the aberrantly expressed miRNA profile in TAD, and differentially expressed miRNAs were verified with qRT-PCR. To explore the role of the key miRNAs (miR-3529) in HASMCs homeostasis, we overexpressed this miRNA with lentivirus in HASMCs. Integrative transcriptomics and metabolomics analysis were used to uncover the functional roles of this miRNA in regulating HASMCs homeostasis. Further, the target gene of miR-3529 was predicted by bioinformatics and verified through a dual-luciferase reporter assay.ResultsBulk miRNA sequencing showed miR-3529 was elevated in TAD tissues and confirmed by qRT-PCR. Further experimental assay revealed miR-3529 upregulation induced HASMCs homeostasis disruption, accompanied by reducing contractile markers and increasing pro-inflammatory cytokines. Integrative transcriptomics and metabolomics analysis showed that miR-3529 overexpression altered the metabolic profile of HASMC, particularly lipid metabolism. ABCA1 was found to be a direct target of miR-3529. Mechanistically, the miR-3529/ABCA1 axis disrupted HASMCs homeostasis through the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.ConclusionsmiR-3529 is elevated in TAD patients and disrupts HASMCs homeostasis by reprogramming metabolism through the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. These findings favor a role for miR-3529 as a novel target for TAD therapy.

The Japan/East Sea (JES) is known as a mid-latitude “Miniature Ocean” that features multiscale oceanic dynamical processes. Using principal component analysis (PCA), we investigate the variability of the sea surface chlorophyll-a concentration (SSC) and its bloom timing in the JES based on satellite remote sensing products spanning 1998–2019. The JES SSC exhibits strong seasonal variability and blooms twice annually. The spring bloom is induced under combined factors of increased photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), weakened wind speeds and sea ice melting, and terminated by the enhanced stratification. The fall bloom is induced by destratification and active dynamic processes (such as upwelling and front), and terminated by decreased PAR. The interannual variability of spring and fall bloom occur along the northwestern coast of the JES and in the deep Japan Basin, respectively. The positive SSC anomalies along the northwestern coast of the JES in spring is associated with more sea ice in the previous winter, weaker wind speed, and stronger stratification induced by the El Niño events. No significant relationship has been found between the fall bloom and the El Niño events. The bloom timing is controlled by the critical depth hypothesis. The initiation/termination timing of spring blooms has shifted earlier by 0.37/0.45 days, and the counterpart of fall blooms has shifted 0.49/1.28 days earlier per year. The duration and magnitude are independent with each other for spring bloom at interannual time scale. In contrast, they are positively correlated for fall bloom, because of both bloom timing and magnitude are dominated by active oceanic dynamical processes in fall.

The global navigation satellite system (GNSS) wave buoys currently in use can measure ocean surface waves but have major drawbacks regarding their real-time high-precision application due to the communication burden and high differential correction service costs; these issues have heavily limited the large-scale deployment of GNSS wave buoys globally. In this work, we propose a global real-time low-cost centimeter-level precise wave measurement method using onboard GNSS variometric velocities and segment wave parameter retrievals. The proposed novel method can achieve buoy velocities with millimeter-level accuracies using freely available broadcast ephemerides and clocks. In addition, surface wave parameters can be accurately retrieved online in real time at a GNSS variometric sampling rate of 2.5 Hz or above. The variometric approach retrieved significant wave height and mean wave period differences of 3.4 cm and 0.16 s, respectively, compared to those measured by the classical Datawell wave buoy, reaching the performance of precise point positioning results that can be obtained using precise ephemerides and clocks. In addition, the proposed method markedly outperformed the Doppler approach, especially in terms of the buoy velocity accuracy and displacement determination. The proposed GNSS variometric approach has promising application potential in real-time precise surface wave measurement applications at remarkably low costs, thus strongly supporting global ocean observations.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) in cancer patients may disrupt anticarcinogenic treatment and greatly increase associated mortality rates. The present study reported on the management of cancer patients with AKI and, from the nephrologic viewpoint, on the significance of fine volume control during the continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The records of 117 cancer patients with AKI treated over three years were reviewed and their data were compared with those of 120 healthy controls. AKI was defined according to the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes criteria with serum creatinine levels determined on initial admission and for the diagnosis of AKI. CRRT with concomitant impedance cardiography (ICG) monitoring was performed in 79 patients. On average, AKI manifested as a 1.68±0.38-fold increase in serum creatinine within 10.2±5.7 days. The causes of AKI were diverse, with the major ones being nephrotoxic agents, hypotension and obstructive nephropathy. Renal biopsy confirmed two cases of thrombotic microangiopathy, due to the use of interfon-α and sunitinib malate, respectively, and a third case of cast nephropathy caused by immunoglobulin D multiple myeloma. The patients were generally marantic and had compromised cardiac function compared with the healthy controls. The CRRT prescription was discriminatingly optimized by the ICG parameters effecting discreet fluid balance, as the thoracic fluid content was significantly correlated with the ultrafiltration rate. By considering the causative mechanisms and applying subtle ICG-assisted volume control, the present study may thus help to improve the safety and efficacy of CRRT in cancer patients with AKI. In the context of carbon neutralization and carbon peak, carbon reduction in key industries has become a central topic in our country. As an important part of technological progress, it is necessary to study the effect of technology import on carbon emission reduction in key industries. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces. from 2011 to 2020, this paper used the fixed-effect model to analyze the emission reduction effect in key industries on the development status of technology import. The spatial econometric model was used to analyze the spatial characteristics of carbon emissions of technology import and key industries. Then, the mediating effect model was used to bring industrial technological innovations into the research category to analyze the mediating role of technology imports on the carbon emissions of key industries. Finally, a robustness test proved the reliability of the model. The findings were as follows: (1) Technology import significantly promoted carbon emission reduction in key industries; (2) In terms of the spatial relationship, technology import and carbon dioxide emissions had significant spillover effects, and there were trends of high and high aggregation and low and low aggregation, with the impact of technology import on carbon dioxide emissions having a siphon effect; (3) Industrial technological innovation played an intermediary role in this path, but it was a negative role, which was not, in general, conducive to the reduction of carbon emissions of key industries. On this basis, the paper puts forward several policy suggestions.

The aims of this article were to investigate Bacillus safensis HL3 spore for its capacity to degrade and detoxify indigo carmine and to provide an effective biological agent for the treatment of isatin dye wastewater. Bacillus safensis HL3 spore was found to decolorize indigo carmine by 97% in the presence of acetosyringone within 2 h. Significantly increased activities of spore laccase, intracellular tyrosinase, and lignin peroxidase upon exposure to indigo carmine were observed. The results of RT–qPCR also showed that the expression of laccase gene was significantly increased. The spore has the ability to degrade indigo carmine through oxidization. Furthermore, the pathway by which indigo carmine is degraded was investigated using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis to identify the biodegradation products. A detailed pathway of indigo carmine degradation by bacterial spores was proposed for the first time. Toxicity tests indicated that the biodegradation products of indigo carmine are non-toxic to Nicotiana tabacum seeds and are less hazardous to human erythrocytes than the original dye. Indigo carmine is a typical recalcitrant dye and severely jeopardizes human health. The results demonstrate the utility of the spore from Bacillus safensis HL3 for the degradation of indigo carmine and simultaneous reduction of its toxicity.

Quality control of Chinese medicine (CM) is mainly based on chemical testing, which sometimes shows weak correlation to pharmacological effects. Thus, there is a great demand to establish bioactivity-based assays to ensure the quality of CM. The aim of the present study was to establish a bioassay-based approach to evaluate the biological activity of Xuesaitong injection (XST) based on an in vivo zebrafish model. Zebrafish larvae with arachidonic acid (AA)-induced thrombus were applied to evaluate anti-thrombosis effects of XST and explore the potential mechanism of XST. Analysis of major components in normal and abnormal XST samples was performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results indicate that XST could significantly restore heart red blood cells (RBCs) intensity of thrombotic zebrafish in a dose-dependent manner, whilst decreasing RBCs accumulation in the caudal vein. The results were confirmed using a green fluorescence protein (GFP)-labeled zebrafish thrombosis model. Moreover, we could show that XST downregulates the expression of the fibrinogen alpha chain (fga) gene to inhibit the coagulation cascade during the process of thrombosis in zebrafish. Notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1, ginsenoside Rb1 and ginsenoside Rd, which were considered to be the major components of XST, also showed moderate anti-thrombosis efficacy. Further results showed that the zebrafish thrombosis model could efficiently distinguish five abnormal batches of XST from 24 normal batches. Furthermore, the inhibition rates of different batches were correlated with the content level of major components. Our results suggested that the proposed zebrafish thrombosis model could be successfully used to evaluate the batch-to-batch consistency of XST, which provided an alternative way for the quality control of CM.

Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are prolonged discrete events of anomalously warm seawater observed around the world. The occurrence of MHWs in the Japan/East Sea (JES), a middle latitude marginal sea with abundant aquatic resources, has severe impacts on marine ecosystems and human society. We used satellite remote sensing products spanning 1982–2020 to investigate the mean states and variations of JES MHWs. The results show that the JES MHWs occurred twice per year. More than 40% of the MHWs were shorter than the mean duration of 12.6 days and weaker than the mean intensity of 2.4 °C. Frequent MHWs were observed in August, while high mean intensities were observed in winter and spring in the western JES. In recent years, the area’s averaged yearly sum of MHW intensity in the JES has increased dramatically, with a positive trend of 29.62 °C days per decade—over twice the average global trend (12.37 °C days per decade), which is further confirmed by its first empirical orthogonal function mode. The strengthening trend in MHWs may be explained by oceanic dynamics rather than atmospheric forcing, and may result in increased surface latent heat flux from the ocean to the atmosphere.

In this study, the static and dynamic spatial Durbin model between industrial structure and haze pollution in Yangtze River Delta is constructed. Later, the spatial spillover effect and time lag effect of haze pollution in Yangtze River Delta are analyzed. The impact of rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure on haze pollution and its spatial spillover effect are discussed. The results show that: (i) PM2.5 has a significant positive spatial spillover effect and time lag effect; (ii) in the short run, the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure has no inhibitory effect on haze pollution, while the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure of surrounding cities has an inhibitory effect on local haze pollution; (iii) in the long run, the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure of surrounding cities have an inhibitory effect on local haze pollution; (iv) economic growth, FDI, the number of Industrial Enterprises above Designated Size, and population density also have spatial spillover effects on haze pollution. Therefore, considering the spatial spillover effect of haze pollution from the perspective of urban agglomeration and long-term, strengthening the joint prevention and control and comprehensive treatment among cities, further promoting the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure is conducive to reducing haze pollution.

Two different time delay structures for the dynamical Cournot game with two heterogeneous players are considered in this paper, in which a player is assumed to make decision via his marginal profit with time delay and another is assumed to adjust strategy according to the delayed price. The dynamics of both players output adjustments are analyzed and simulated. The time delay for the marginal profit has more influence on the dynamical behaviors of the system while the market price delay has less effect, and an intermediate level of the delay weight for the marginal profit can expand the stability region and thus promote the system stability. It is also shown that the system may lose stability due to either a period-doubling bifurcation or a Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. Numerical simulations show that the chaotic behaviors can be stabilized by the time-delayed feedback control, and the two different delays play different roles on the system controllability: the delay of the marginal profit has more influence on the system control than the delay of the market price.

As a developing country, extensive carbon and sulfur emissions are associated with China’s rapid social and economic development. Chief among them are the emissions from coal and oil consumption. This paper focuses on the demand side, attempting to regulate the range of relative price of oil to coal at the consumption level. Through the adjustment of the relative price, the goal of reducing the emissions of carbon and sulfur could be achieved in the market of energy consumption. Data regression is applied to investigate the functional relationship between emissions and energy prices. The results indicate that when the coal price is less than 300, the higher relative price leads to less carbon and sulfur emissions; when the coal price is more than 300 and less than 500, there exists an optimal relative price which has the least carbon emissions, and this value is not more than 11.5; when the coal price is more than 500, the smaller relative price is beneficial to decline carbon and sulfur emissions. The changed trend of relative price-sulfur emissions is very similar to relative price-carbon emissions. Compared to the present energy situation in China, the relative price of oil to coal still need to be reduced especially when coal price is more than 500.

Abstract: Well-dispersed Ag2S nanocrystals with size of about 20~30 nm were prepared in distilled water at room temperature with the assistance of imidazoline surfactant quaternary ammonium salt of 2-undecyl-1-dithioureido-ethyl-imidazoline (SUDEI) prepared in-house. The products were characterized by TEM, XRD, and FT-IR, respectively. The influence of SUDEI concentration on the dispersion of Ag2S products was briefly discussed. Furthermore, the obtained Ag2S nanocrystals product was applied into DNA hybridization analysis, and the results indicated that the detection limit of target ssDNA was up to pmol/L, showing that the DNA probe labeled with Ag2S nanoparticles is of promising application value in electrochemical DNA detection analysis and biosensors.
