Kuzey Anadolu Fay Zonu’nun kuzey koluna ait segment dağılımı Marmara Denizi altında sismik yansıma çalışmaları ile güvenilir olarak tanımlanmıştır. Bununla birlikte, denizle kaplı olmamasına rağmen güney Marmara ve batı Anadolu’da Kuzey Anadolu Fay Zonu’nun kaç kolu olduğu ve bunların konumları hakkında fikir birliği bulunmamaktadır. Bu makalede yüksek çözünürlüklü uydu görüntüleri yardımıyla morfotektonik çalışmalar gerçekleştirilerek, sismik etkinlik ve belirgin depremlerin odak mekanizması çözümleri ile diri fayların segment dağılımlarının doğru şekilde belirlenmesine çalışılmıştır. Böylece güney Marmara bölgesinde Kuzey Anadolu Fay Zonu’nun orta ve güney kollarının ayrımı yapılmış ve güney kolun Bolu’dan başlayan, Bursa, Balıkesir, İzmir üzerinden Ege Denizinde Değirmenlik (Mlos) adasına kadar uzanan güzergahı ayrıntıları ile ortaya konmuştur. Bunun yanı sıra sonuçlarımız daha önceki yayınlarda güney Marmara ve batı Anadolu’da diri fay desenini açıklamak için önerilen “büklüm modeli” ve “İzmir-Balıkesir Transfer Zonu” fikrinin geçerli olmadığını göstermektedir., The segment distribution of the northern branch of North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) is well determined under the Sea of Marmara by intense seismic reflection studies. However, there is no agreement on the number of branches and their positions in the southern Marmara and western Anatolia, even if the area is not covered by the sea. In this paper, we performed morphotectonic studies with the help of the high-resolution satellite images, seismicity, and focal mechanism solutions of significant earthquakes to determine the segment distribution of the active faults accurately. Thus, the distinction of middle and southern branches of NAFZ in the southern Marmara region is established and the route of southern branch of NAFZ from Bolu to Değirmenlik (Milos) island via Bursa, Balıkesir, and İzmir is documented in detail. Besides, our results demonstrate that the “bend model” suggested by previous studies to explain the active faulting pattern in southern Marmara and western Anatolia is not working together with the proposed “İzmir-Balıkesir Transfer Zone” concept.

The Neo-Tethyan suture zone in the western margin of the Çankırı basin (NW central Anatolia, Turkey)has been reactivated as a pinched crustal wedge due to a NW – SE compression created by the right lateral North Anatolian Fault Zone and the Kırıkkale – Erbaa Fault Zone. This neotectonic structure, theEldivan-Elmadağ pinched crustal wedge-(EPCW), having a thrusted eastern and normal faulted westernmargin, has accommodated a 2.8 km shortening since the Late Pliocene. This result accords with themodel in which the Anatolian plate is squeezed from the east rather than pulled from the southwest. TheEPCW, a recently active structure, should be regarded as a potential source in the earthquake riskassessment of central Anatolia, particularly for the capital city Ankara and for Çankırı.

Bu makale morfotektonik özellikleri, sismoloji, GPS ve MT verilerini kullanarak Kuzey Anadolu Fay Zonu'nun (KAFZ) güney kol'u için alternatif bir güzergah önermektedir. Bu yeni güzergahta güney kol, KAFZ’nun ana koluna Gölpazarı çek-ayır havzası ve Mudurnu üzerinden geçerek Bolu’da bağlanmaktadır. GPS verilerinden hesaplanan KAFZ’nundaki kayma dağılımı, yeni önerilen güzergahın KAFZ'nun Marmara'daki ikinci önemli kolu olduğunu göstermektedir., This paper proposes an alternative route for the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) using evidence from morphotectonic features, seismology, GPS and recently published Magnetotelluric and Transient Electromagnetic (MT) data. In this new route, the southern branch connects with the main branch of the NAFZ in Bolu via the Gölpazarı pull-apart basin and Mudurnu. The slip distribution of the NAFZ as taken from GPS data indicates that the newly hypothesized route is the second most important branch of the NAFZ.

KB Orta Anadolu'da yer alan Ankara'nın batısındaki Neojen öncesi temel birimler, kabuktaki daralmanın etkisiyle yükselerek Neojen ve daha genç sedimanter birimleri deforme eder ve kesit görüntüsünde bir tektonik kama yapısı oluşturur. Eş yaşlı olarak doğu kenarı bindirme/ters, batı kenarı ise normal faylarla sınırlı bu yapı Abdüsselam Kıstırılmış Tektonik Kaması (AKTK) olarak isimlendirilmiştir. AKTK'nin çevresinde ve kuzey ve güney devamında yer alan Neojen ve daha genç birimlerdeki daralmayla ilişkili deformasyon yapıları, bölgede Orta Pliyosen'den günümüze KB-GD yönlü bir daralma rejiminin etkin olduğunu gösterir. Ankara şehir merkezinin batısında yer alan ve olasılıkla aktif olan bu kama yapısıyla ilişkili faylar, bölgedeki yoğun yapılaşma ve diğer önemli tesisler düşünüldüğünde deprem riski açısından dikkate alınmalıdır., The Neogene and younger sedimentary units, which are located in the W of Ankara, NW central Anatolia, have been uplifted and deformed by the pre-Neogene basement rocks due to the crustal contraction. Thus, a tectonic wedge structure has been formed in cross-section view. This structure having coeval thrust and normal faults at its eastern and western boundaries, respectively, is called as AbdÜsselam Pinched Crustal Wedge (APCW). The contraction related deformation structures in the Neogene and younger sedimentary units around the APCW and along its northern and southern continuation show that the NW-SE-directed contractional regime has been active in the region since Middle Pliocene. Therefore, the faults related to the APCW located in the west of Ankara city center should be taken into consideration for the earthquake risk when considering the dense settlement and the other important facilities in the region.

Eskişehir Fay Zonu Türkiye'nin önemli neotektonik yapılarından biridir. Anadolu bloğunda yer alan Batı Anadolu genişleme bölgesi ile doğrultu atımlı fay etkisi altındaki kuzeybatı Orta Anadolu daralma bölgesini birbirinden ayırır. Eskişehir Fay Zonu'nun güneydoğu bölümü genel olarak kuzeyden güneye sırasıyla Ilıca, Yeniceoba ve Cihanbeyli ismini taşıyan üç bölüme ayrılır. Sağ yanal doğrultu atımlı Ilıca kolu yaklaşık 100 km uzunluğundadır ve kuzeybatı-güneydoğu doğrultusunda birçok parçadan oluşur. Fay yüzeyleri, ikincil kırıklar, kataklastik zon, kırık kontrollü drenaj yapısı, sağ yanal dere ötelenmeleri, Kuvaterner birim içinde sismik yansıma kesitlerinde gözlenen deformasyon ve bölgenin depremselliği Ilıca kolunun sağ yanal doğrultu atımlı aktif bir fay olduğunu göstermektedir. Ilıca kolunun Ankara'nın batı-güneybatısındaki daralmayla ilişkili yapıları güneyden sınırlandırdığı düşünüldüğünde, Orta Anadolu'daki daralmalı ve genişlemeli bölgeler arasında bir sınır fayı olarak ayrıca bölgesel tektonik anlamda bir önemi vardır, The Eskişehir Fault Zone is one of the prominent neotectonic structures of Turkey. It separates the west Anatolian extensional province and the strike-slip induced northwest central Anatolian contractional area in the Anatolian Block. Its southeastern part is generally divided into three branches, namely the Ilıca, Yeniceoba, and Cihanbeyli from north to south, respectively. The right lateral strike-slip Ilıca branch (IB) is an approximately 100-km-long fault and it is composed of several segments in a northwest-southeast direction. The slickensides, subsidiary fractures, cataclastic zone, fracture-controlled drainage pattern, right lateral stream deflections, deformation in the Quaternary unit observing in the seismic reflection sections, and seismicity of the region all indicate that the IB is an active right lateral strike-slip fault. The IB has also a regional tectonic importance as a boundary fault between the contractional and the extensional regions in central Anatolia considering that it is the southern limit of the contraction-related structures in the west-southwest of Ankara
